This week, we were absolutely honored to welcome a true Australian icon to the podcast in Hoppo from Bondi Rescue! Hoppo's extraordinary dedication to beach safety and lifeguarding is nothing short of legendary. Having served as a lifeguard with Waverley Council since 1991, he holds the remarkable distinction of being involved in more resuscitations than any other lifeguard in the service. In 2000, he was appointed as the head lifeguard and since then has solidified his status as one of the longest-serving and most experienced lifeguards on the roster.
Most would know Hoppo from his pivotal role in the hugely successful Bondi Rescue TV show, which has won six Logie Awards, and received nine nominations 'Most Popular Factual Television Show' and now airs in over 180 countries worldwide, making him a household name not only in Australia but around the globe!
During our conversation, Hoppo provides some incredible insight to his journey, the varying range of roles and at time gut wrenching responsibilities of a Bondi lifeguard, as well as touching on some of the lighter aspects of the job, including how the show came to fruition and has since provided him with the opportunities to meet some incredibly famous people. .
This episode is a unique opportunity to delve into the incredible career of a lifeguard who in addition to having an incomparable wealth of knowledge, has touched countless lives by going to work each day and we're incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to chat.
