As in which way do we go? WBZ achi weather meteorologist Joe Lundberg. Only in the forties today, but tomorrow we're back in the sixties. It's Global tariff Day and no one really knows yet what that means. President Trump says he's got a playbook of how retaliatory levies will roll out and affect the rest of the planet, and he will reveal those plans to the rest of us this afternoon from the White House. Experts say it is

say sure bet. The long promised twenty five percent tariffs will hit Canada and Mexico and more levies will include China. It is also expected that the so called Dirty fifteen countries, which account for the bulk of trading with the United States, will be affected to some degree. They also include the European Union Nations, Vietnam, Japan, and India. Time is of

the essence for TikTok. President Trump will listen to final pitches from American companies willing to step to the plate to buy the social media app from its Chinese owners. Today at the White House, one of the President's first executive orders since taking office was to give a seventy five day lifeline to TikTok to sell itself or risk being shut down in the United States. A deadline day is Saturday, but the President says he's confident a deal

will be struck between now and then. New research shows more Americans are avoiding the doctor's office these days.

How much of New England is at a loss today? With millions of dollars in federal funding of Planned Parenthood centers yanked away. More than four million bucks vanish across four states in this region. New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island all hit in the latest round of austerity. The latest target of DOGE and the Trump administration nationwide planned Parenthood was to use that money to pay for annual exams, cancer treatment, and birth control. There's no telling if that

money will ever come back. So far, it appears that Massachusetts and Vermont are unscathed, at least for now. Le Bruins continue to circle the drain as Washington's Alex Ovechkin gets one goal closer to Hockey's goat Bees lose the Garden. Celtics will go for ten wins in a row Tonight. Val Kilmer's most recent role in Top Gun Maverick. His voice altered electronically. His family says Kilmer had been treated for throat cancer for several years, but they say his death is due to complications from pneumonia. Val Kilmer was sixty five clouds. As we get started on this Wednesday morning in Boston, it is ridiculously cold once again, thirty two degrees here in the city, which means that likely in many of our suburbs where you're waking up this morning,

the dashboard in the car reads in the twenties. That's not unusual, seeing a number of twenties across the board this morning. This is really just a reminder that winter has not entirely left behind. Temperatures today only going to get into the mid forties. We will see some sunshine along the way. It's going to be breezy once again, so even while it's in the forties, it's gonna be needing. You're going to be needing a winter coat more than likely throughout much of the day today. Things do tend

to change this time of year rather rapidly. Overnight Tonight we might see a couple of snowflakes, but then the temperatures will rise tomorrow. We'll be back in the sixties by tomorrow afternoon. There might be some showers on our doorstep later on tomorrow as well, and then into Friday. Friday looks like it's actually going to be a pretty decent day with clouds breaking for sunshine, high temperatures in

the mid to upper sixties, maybe near seventy degrees. This is opening day for the Red Sox by the way at Fenway Park against the Cardinals, and it does look like there's a reasonable expectation we might see seventy on Friday afternoon. Right now, it's a far cry thirty two degrees partly cloudy skies. As we get started at six oh six on this Wednesday morning, it is time to get those steps in today. Walk sign is on the cross now.

Speaker 2

Participating in National Walking Days just as easy as putting one foot in front of the other.

Speaker 1

It's how many of us get around.

Speaker 2

And sometimes it can seem faster than trying to navigate through Boston while cars and trucks are stuck in traffic, just keep a close eye on the cobblestone and brick sidewalks. It's also good for you, as it's recommended to get thirty to sixty minutes of walking in a day to improve your health, both physical and mental. Karen Reid tells supporters that being back on trial for murder is kind of like de Jarvus. Jury selection continues this morning in the Karen Reid case in Norfolk Superior Court. Hundreds of potential jurors will be asked to fill out a three page questionnaire for starters before being vetted by lawyers. By that process, two jurors have been selected in the murder retrial in the twenty twenty two killing of Boston police officer John O'Keeffe in Kenton. Judge Beverly Canoni says

she expects jury selection could take several weeks. A retired Massachusetts State Police trooper changes his mind and is now expected to plead guilty to charges connected to a commercial driver's license scam. Sixty four year old Calvin Butner of Halifax will change his plea on several charges He and several others were involved in a conspiracy to hand out these licenses to application to applicants who either failed the

exam or didn't take the exam at all. Others caught up in the scheme include current and former state police troopers. Butner will appear in Boston Federal Court on Monday for a change of plea. Hearing the charges as they stand could send Butner to prison if convicted for more than one hundred years. A timeless shop finally goes silent in Arlington. Cambridge Typewriter in Arlington, Massachusetts, was the last place in the state where you could get your wonderful old manual

typewriter repaired. After forty five years in business, seventy year old Tom Furrier has called it a day.

Speaker 2

Just me, that's it. That's why my customers are so excited, because I know there's nobody here.

Speaker 1

Oddly enough, he's closing it a time when typewriters are more popular than they've been in a long time.

Speaker 2

People think I'm crazy because this is the busiest I've ever been.

Speaker 1

Christopher Cruz, CBS News. Tom Farrier once got a gift of a typewriter from Tom Hanks. He tried for years to find a buyer for Cambridge typewriter, but none could be found, so Tom is off to retirements. You are now in the loop for news updates throughout the day.
