You ready, let's go six o'clock on this Thursday morning, and we've got mostly cloudy skies south the door this morning, sixty two degrees here in the city. The news at six is brought to us by You're a New England Toyota dealer, your highbrid all wheel drive headquarters. Thanks for joining us this morning. I'm Jeff Brown. Our locker room appears to have runneth out, satty and breezy today with

occasional rain. That rain will be a little steadier and heavier down toward the cape in the island. Is WBZ acky weather meteorologist Joe Lumberg. A high rip current risk is also kicking in today, officially at eight o'clock this morning, but it'll be in the seventies for most of us throughout the day. Red Sox hang on in a nail biter at the trough probo basin.

That's the call on Nessen and that is the way it would finish. The Red Sox beat the Rays to keep their slim playoff hopes of the American League alive. Patriots are going to kick off Week three in the NFL tonight against the Jets on the road, and the WNBA is going to strike while its iron is hot. The league is expected to bring an expansion team to Portland, Oregon, in the next couple of years. Recent surveys show an improving picture for Kamala Harris on the campaign trail, and

ep pole reveals an approval rating on the upswing. About half of voters feel better about the Harris campaign now than earlier this summer, while Donald Trump's approval rating remains about the same. A Morning Consult survey also finds more voters are warming up to Harris as she closes the trust gap with Trump. Forty six percent now say they feel good about Harris's ability to handle the US economy, an issue that Trump has dominated this entire campaign. Congress

is running out of runway. The House soundly rejects a plan to keep the government running beyond an end of month shutdown, despite a revolt by members of his own Republican Party. Speaker Mike Johnson plows ahead anyway with a vote on a one point six trillion dollars spending stopgap that would have kept the government running through March. No deal, and the lights will go off in Washington and at federal offices around the country at midnight on October first.

Tens of thousands continue to walk the picket lines at jetmaker Boeing, a strike.

Of Boeing machinists continues after federal mediators failed to help the company and its largest union reach an agreement on key issues the union set on social media. There are no additional dates scheduled for talks. Boeing furloughed tens of thousands of executives and non union staff as it deals with the financial repercussions of the strike. The machinist walked off the job Friday, twenty July.

CBS needs tens of thousands of additional workers at Boeing are about to begin rolling furloughs. The strike is expected to last for weeks and cost billions, so other employees will take one week off a month, while top executives will take pay cuts. We are living in a shopper's paradise WBCs. The final three months of the year has traditionally been make or break season. It's the main reason why the day after Thanksgiving Day sales are called Black Friday, in reference to an accountants ledger. But Walmart will get things started on October eighth with online Holidays sale.

We are already seeing some rain hitting the bands of the outer Cape and the islands this morning, but the rest of eastern Massachusetts is relatively dry. We do have some thick patches of fog and otherwise cloudy skies. For the most part this morning, it's relatively mild at

sixty two degrees. As we get started this Thursday morning, we'll see temperatures jump into the seventies along the way today and most of the rain today will be confined to the southeast portion of the state.

We are in a bit of an unsettled weather pattern now which is going to settle in over the next several days, with more clouds than sunshine on the way, much cooler. Temperatures will only be in the sixties right through the weekend, and it does look like more of us will be exposed to showers tomorrow afternoon and into the early hours on Saturday. Sunday looks like we could see a return of some sunshine. Right now. It's sixty two, clouds and fog here in Boston at six oh six

on this Thursday morning. The rapper will remain behind bars. No bail for Sean Combs, now facing federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges. A second judge rejects an appeal that he'd be let out of a Brooklyn jail to await trial. Look inside his mansions and his sex parties, though, is revealing.

Prosecutors saying devices allegedly containing videos of those freak offs were seized during raids on Combs's homes in Los Angeles and Miami, and in is closet agents, saying they found AR fifteen's with serial numbers defaced. Colmbs was initially denied bail after pleading not guilty to racketeering, sex trafficking, and prostitution charges.

At SABC's Aaron Katerski as for the bail request, the court rules that Combs might not be a flight risk, but it is concerned that Combs will be a risk of witness tampering. A brawl at a maximum security prison in Massachusetts sends five corrections officers to the hospital with injuries, two of whom are stabbed in the fight. Officials say the assault took place at the SUSA Baranowski Correctional Center in Lancaster around six thirty last night. The prison now secure.

State police have been notified and investigation is underway. The FEDS say overdose deaths from drugs are falling and fast. The CDC reports there are still more than one hundred thousand deaths annually due to ods, but the annual count is dropping ten percent in most recent trends. Experts say increased availability of the overdose reversing treatment NARCAN should be given much of the credit here, but they also caution that more numbers and data are needed before any expectation

of the future can be predicted. Room with a View is on its way to Quincy.

The City of Quincy is receiving over four million dollars in federal funding to improve the maritime transit experience at Marina Bay. That money is going to modernize the over thirty year old facility with a new peer float and ramp system. The MBTA says the project offers a unique chance to improve transportation options in the Quincy Boston Harbor area and foster greater collaboration between them and the city, adding the initiative will specifically benefit elderly writers and those
