Wildfires in southern California have now turned deadly. At least five people are dead, some one hundred and thirty thousand around the run. But again, the wheel, the real field temperatures will make it feel substantially colder than that. And not only that, we do have plenty of snow flourry activity out and about this morning, and it's really not going to amount to much, just some nuisance snow, I would say, for much of the
more morning hours today. Otherwise, more clouds than sun throughout the day. Today, clearing overnight. Tonight continued windy and cold, lows in the teens. Tomorrow we get a little bit of a break. It's going to be the sunniest day of this stretch, and temperatures eventually we'll get above the freezing mark and we might even hit forty degrees by
tomorrow afternoon. Another storm system coming at us this weekend looks like it's going to be a miss, and we might see a couple of snowshowers on Saturday with highs around freezing, and then back to sunny skies on Sunday as well. Right now in Boston, it is just nineteen degrees, it's windy. We do have some snowflakes flying this morning. It is six oh six on this Thursday morning. It probably should not come as a surprise to you, but yes, it is another cold day in January.

I guess it also should probably come as no surprise that people do not want to talk to Drew, but that is a story for another day. President Elect Donald Trump's plan to take back the Panama Canal gain some steam on Capitol Hill as the Republicans in the House get set to tackle a bill that would give the incoming president the authority to negotiate a buyback. The Panama Canal Repurchase Act would allow negotiations to begin to acquire
the property for one dollar. In a news conference at Mara Lago this week, mister Trump did not rule out using force to take back the canal. During the Carter administration, the US sold the rights to the Panama Canal to Panama for what critics say was that same bargain basement price. Today is a National Day of Mourning in honor of
former President Jimmy Carter. A motorcade carrying the body of America's thirty ninth president will leave the United States Capitol Building at nine o'clock this morning, headed to the National Cathedral for the service. At ten o'clock, President Biden delivers a eulogy, and back here in Massachusetts, Governor more Heely is asking people in this state to observe a moment of silence at ten. Following the service, Carter and his family travel back to the family home and planes Georgia
for at private burial service. Bird flu continues to cause problems from the doctor's office, to the supermarket, and now to our kitchen tables.
