This is WBZ Boston's news radio. We defining local news. Well we've done it.
It is six o'clock and the holiday season is now officially in the rear view mirror. It is Thursday morning. This is kind of like the second Monday of the week. By the way, clearing skies in Boston. It's thirty eight degrees. The News at six brought to a spy. You're New England, Toyota dealer, your hybrid all wheel drive headquarters. Welcome aboard this Thursday morning. I'm Jeff Brown. Better hold on to your hats.
Sunny to Bartley, cloudy, very windy, and Chile today the high forty four with Acuba. The real field temperature mainly in the twenties. That is WBZ aciweather meteorologist Joe Lundberg. A big chill is on the way too, but sunny skies are expected through the rest of the weekend and now we wait. State and national health experts say they expect an outbreak of respiratory illnesses in the coming days
and weeks after the holiday gatherings. Flu, COVID, and RSV are all expected to do increase, mainly doctors because many people have not gotten the latest vaccines to prevent against each Massachusetts is currently experiencing a moderate rate of flu and a high number of COVID patients. The CDC says the drop in vaccination rates is driven by misinformation about
those shots. Doctors say it can take a couple of weeks for vaccines to take full effect, while the infection rate for all three viruses takes just days to take roots. Celtics and Bruins both in action tonight. These Celtics will travel to Minnesota. The Bruins are at Madison Square Garden to take on the Rangers. No Thursday Night football tonight, as the NFL begins its final weekend of the regular season,
with a couple of games on Saturday coming up. College football's quarterfinals wrap up this afternoon in New Orleans with Notre Dame and Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. That game was postponed from yesterday.
Not my decision, but I would like to see it delayed at least another day. If they asked my opinion, I would tell them that I think that it was a wise decision to delay it at least a day.
This is an act of crime scene Louisiana Attorney General Liz Burrow. Investigators continue to look for accomplices in the deadly truck attack on Bourbon Street. President Biden calls the attack that left fifteen people dead and dozens more hurt as horrific and with no justification.
I've directed my Attorney General, the FPI Director HIT, a National counter Intelligence to Terrorism Center, and the intelligence community to work on this intensively.
Law enforcement says forty two year old shamsu Din Jabbar was a US Army veteran hell bent on causing as much damage as possible. A suspect shot dead in a firefight with police posted videos on social media outlining his plans. Former Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis on night Side with Dan ray Here at WBZ says, this is a similar scene playing out in New Orleans, much like Boston twelve
years ago. We are hearing that there were two other devices, and if he had those planted by someone, then clearly there's a conspiracy and that's extremely trouble. Authorities do say this attack is terrorism based with links to ISIS weapons
inside the rented truck as well. Officials in New Orleans say the driver managed to get onto Bourbon Street due to malfunctioning security ballards meant to keep vehicles out back to school, back to work this morning, and the overnight rain has pulled out a dodge and we're seeing clearing skies. As we speak, it is thirty eight degrees. The other item this morning out the door is you'll notice it's quite windy already. In fact, a wind advisory has been
posted through ten o'clock tonight. We can expect wind gusts between forty and sixty miles per hour later on during the day. Throughout the entire day as well, it is otherwise going to be a mix of sun and clouds. High temperatures will be in the mid forties, but with the wind chill, it'll feel like we're stuck in the twenties.
And this is just the beginning of a change in the pattern as millions of Americans are going to be going into a deep freeze, and that includes right here in the Northeast, mainly clear, gusty, cold wind overnight tonight, low temperatures just below freezing. Tomorrow, a mix of sun and clouds once again hies in the upper thirties, but again it feels like we're stuck in the twenties, and we get progressively colder as we head through the weekend
under mainly sunny skies. High temperatures both Saturday and Sunday expected to be just above freezing, and it looks like we could be seeing even colder air moving into starts next week. Right now in Boston this Thursday morning, clearing skies in thirty eight degrees but very windy here in Boston at six oh five, Cambridge puts a bow on twenty twenty five, just as the new year begins.
Massachusetts is home to over one hundred colleges and universities, but only one town, or in this case, city exemplifies the definition of a true college town. Home to both Harvard and MIT. Researchers say Cambridge has it all. A lively art scene, world renowned museums, eclectic architecture, and a mix of urban and green spaces. Annual festivals, outdoor recreational opportunities and culture add to the city's vibrant campus and
community life for students, residents, and visitors in Cambridge. James Rojas WBZ Boston's news Radio.
