This is WBZ Boston's news radio, redefining local news. Good morning Friday, finally here in Boston, and we're getting started under clear skies forty seven. Pretty chilly out the door this morning. The News at six is brought to us by your new England Toyota dealer, your hybrid all wheel drive headquarters. Welcome aboard this morning. I'm Jeff Brown. As fall throws us a change up. Much cooler weather is on the way as we head into the weekend. It'll stay to rye as well. That is WBZ ACU weather

meteorologist Teather's aire. It is going to stay sunny too high temperature around sixty today. So how we doing? The United Nations says not great. People. It has been one year since global leaders agreed on a revised and pretty aggressive plan to cut fossil fuels and move towards a greener future, but the agency says little to nothing has been done by more than one hundred and fifty countries to reach set out originally in the Paris Climate Accord.

Those same leaders are about to get together next month at Azerbaijan. Experts say last year's deal is not worth the paper it's printed. On They say, if the world sticks to the script, it's still possible to cut global greenhouse gas emissions by more than ten percent by the end of the decade, but it's really no longer feasible. Any questions sat them again going.

The call on NBC Sports Boston is the Celtics clobber the Wizards on the road. They win by twenty and what's up with the Bruins a three game losing streak now with a home loss to Dallas. Thursday Night football in the NFL, the Rams stunned the Vikings. And college football tonight at the Heights as Boston College hosts Louisville under the lights on the campaign trails. This is not

sixteen or twenty twenty. The stakes are even higher. Star power comes out for Kamala Harris, Bruce Springsteen last night in Georgia, Beyonce tonight in Houston. Meantime, Donald Trump goes on the attack in Vegas. Be broken, and I promise you I will fix it, and we'll fix it. Trump says China's leader would bully Harris like a baby if she becomes president. Trump is headed to Michigan and Pennsylvania this weekend. Well, the winner of this year's presidential election,

now eleven days away, is really anyone's gas. Recent nationwide surveys paint a conflicting picture. A poll from you gov finds Kamala Harris with a slight relead, and the most up to date info from the Wall Street Journal indicates Donald Trump has a narrow advantage now in the mix. A new survey from Harvard finds a gender gap among the nation's young voters has more than doubled since the spring.

It now shows young men pick Harris over Trump by ten points and young women give Harris a thirty point lead. And voters in Massachusetts have taken advantage of early voting. Wbz's Drew moholland joins us for details. Good morning Andrew, Good morning Jeffrey.

More than nine voters in Massachusetts have already cast ballots. Mail in voting will continue until election day, and early in person voting continues this weekend. If you're eligible to vote but have not yet registered, Tomorrow is the registration deadline. I repeat, Tomorrow is the registration deadline. You can register in person at a local election office by five pm.

Or online until midnight same day registration. It was much talked about on Beacon Hill, but never gain traction before the end of the lawmakers two year session this summer, so.

That's the deal. So October kind of takes on a new hue as we head into the weekend. Still going to be nice and sunny today, Tomorrow and Sunday, but it's going to feel like fall as temperatures will struggle to get out of the fifties today, maybe low sixties,

still a beautiful day this time of year. Overnight tonight partly cloudy, lows in the thirties and forties in most areas, breezy Tomorrow, Hi's a slightly warmer mid sixties for high temperature, so that's really not bad for this time of year, but we don't get out of the fifties on Sunday

under sunny skies. Now, unshine is going to continue for several days to come, and in fact, if we look into the future, the long range forecast indicates temperatures are back in the seventies and maybe near eighty, which could be near record territory on Halloween, which is coming up on Thursday. Right now in Boston, clear skies in forty seven. On this Friday morning, it is six oh five, and while we're talking about all this sunshine, we need to

mention the emerging drought in Massachusetts. It's digging in its heels.

Speaker 2

It's just a few days to spare. Greater Boston is heading toward one of the driest months of October yet what has become an exceedingly dry fall season. The US Drought Monitor says more than one third of the state is now considered in a moderate drought. That's twice as much area as just a week ago. Bbztv's weather office is the lack of rain now might mean less snow this winter. Research shows that in previous years when Autumn lacked rain, there were fewer snowflakes in every associated winter.

November awaits though, and a sudden switch to heavy rain would potentially flip that script. Jay Willette, WBZ Boston's NewsRadio lawyers.

For Karen Reid formally filed documents with the State Supreme Court asking the justices to sideline her upcoming murder retrial and the death of former Boston copp John O'Keefe. The Norfolk Superior Court Judge Beverly Canoni. They blame her for not properly vetting the jury on its partial verdict before

declaring a mistrial this summer. Attorneys for Red argue that since an informal poll of jurors indicates they were unanimous in agreement on acquittal of two of the three charges against her, a retrial on all of the charges amounts to double jeopardy. Nonetheless, Read's second trial is currently sent for January. Freedom could be next for Lyle and Eric Menendez.

The La County DA will be in court this morning to officially request a re sentencing for the brothers, who are currently doing life for the killing of their parents decades ago. The sensational case got new life with a recent Netflix drama and documentary about the murders. New evidence has recently emerged, giving credence to the brothers claims the killings were in self defense following years of sexual abuse

by their parents. The judge will decide if a new sentence is warranted, but a parole board will ultimately decide if the brothers are set free. Teenagers, tell Hollywood enough with the sex already. The latest study of teens and screens from researchers at UCLA finds the young crowd prefers

to see TV shows and movies that focus on platonic relationship. Tweens, teens, and young adults say plot and ease of access moves the needle for them in seeking out entertainments, and the big easy is normally ready for anything, but maybe not ready for it.

Sailor Swift opens a three night stand at the New Orleans Superdome tonight. They've hung a giant inflatable friendship Praicelet to welcomer. The beads are white, the lettering that spells out her name black. The ends in the middle are strung with blow up beads in bright gemstone tones. Swift has three additional stops planned before her record breaking eras to her winds down Indianapolis, Toronto, and Vancouver. Deborah Rodriguez CBS News.
