Facis WBZ News Radio.
We're Boston's news radio.
We defining local news.
See.
I didn't think we were ready, and it turns out we aren't. Is six o'clock on this Friday morning, and we've got some lightning and thunder rumbling through the area this morning, and some heavy downpours as well. It's fifty two degrees to get us started this Friday. The News at six brought to us by your New England's Toyota Dealer, your hybrid all wheel drive headquarters. Thanks for being with us today. I'm Jeff Browning. Despite summerly morning thunder boomers.
We'll see some sunless afternoons temperature jump into the upper seventies.
In theyear eighty on is WBZ and new other meteorologist Joe Lundberg. Another weekend is on the way and more rain is also going to be included. Preparations are now underway for next week's conclave at the Vatican. Firefighters are seen on the roof of the Sistine Chapel installing a chimney which will be used while the College of Cardinals
remain behind closed doors to choose a new pope. After every two rounds of voting, the ballots are burned, and the color of the smoke indicates the status of the election. Only white smoke will indicate the election of a new leader of the world's more than one billion Catholics. Conclave begins on Wednesday. More name changes are coming to a holiday near you. In a late night social media post, President Trump says he's going to do away with Veterans Day.
It'll be known as Victory Day for World War One, a change for May Eighth's victory in Europe Day two. While not a holiday, it will be renamed Victory in World War II Day. The President says the moves are meant to honor the unique sacrifices made by US troops in both wars. Critics say the change to Veterans Day is a bit surprising, given that it already is designated
as an honor for all US military veterans. The President takes a one hundred day victory lap of sorts with Alabama's graduating class.
It's clear to see the next chapter of the American story will not be written by the Harvid Crimson. It will be written by you.
The Crimson Tide.
President joins a Crimson tied icon former coach Nick Saban in a commencement address. It comes on the same day the President shakes up his cabinet by moving National Security Advisor Mike Waltz to a position at the UN which does need Senate confirmation, and he also gives Secretary of State Marco Rubio a fourth job in his administration. Belief to be a modern day political record. Another tariff is
going to hit your wallet. It begins today. The Trump administration closes a loophole that previously allowed small purchases from Chinese companies to avoid tariffs if those packages were sent directly to a customer's home. The deminimous Rule is out, which covered items costing less than eight hundred dollars. This will raise prices on popular online shopping sites like Timu. The most recent numbers say this is a more than one billion dollar U shopping habit, the average purchase from
China a little more than fifty bucks. It'll be the Knicks. The Celtics take on New York in the NBA Eastern Conference Semi Finals, Game one at the Garden on Monday night, and the tough luck Red Sox come home from the road with another lateenning loss to the Blue Jays Socks will host the Minnesota Twins in a first of a weekend series beginning tonight at Fenway Park. Only morning heavy rain moving through the area this morning. We are accompanied by lightning and thunder as well. It is fifty two
degrees here in Boston. The heaviest of the rain will be pulling away from us shortly and then things get a little bit better or at least brighter here in Greater Boston. We're going to see these clouds break up
and some sunshine arrive this afternoon. It's also going to feel a little bit more like summer today than spring, with high temperatures approaching eighty degrees, especially in inland locations, and the humidity levels will be on the rise overnight tonight, partly to mostly cloudy strays thundershower early otherwise where in
the sixties. Might be sort of a sultry feel to the air as the humidity remains in place as we kick off the weekend tomorrow, and it doesn't certainly look like a bright weekend, but it doesn't also look like a washout. We are expecting to see some rain both tomorrow and Sunday as well. This would be like the
eighth weekend in a row that we are experiencing some showers. Nonetheless, it's going to be warm tomorrow, slightly cooler on Sunday, and we begin the next work week with still some rain hanging around and temperatures in the fifties and sixties. Right now, it's fifty two and raining in Boston at six oh six this Friday morning. And yes, another weekend where a lot is left to be desired.
Mother Nature not super popular around here this spring. I'd like to give her a piece of my mind, a big piece of my mind, because folks got things to do, things they've been waiting for all winter.
It's horrible and if it rains, you're stuck inside and it's never the same.
Like we got a pool, we want to hang out, and it's not looking good.
Missing out on the biking, fishing, really anything outdoors hiking.
Seven of the last eight weekends with some former precipitation, and if the forecast holds true, there'll be some rain around today, Tomorrow and Sunday. And while people aren't exactly crying uncle, they're kind to saying, your mother Nature.
She's not cooperating that well at all.
It's frustrating Mother Nature's nickel.
Mother Nature.
Yes, Chris fam a WBZ.
Boston's news radio again, this is not going to be a complete wash out this weekend, but we'll need to keep an eye to the sky. Testimony resumes the Karen Reid trial this morning in Norfolk Superior Court after a day off yesterday, and when we last met, Reid's former friend was being grilled by defense attorneys about her relationship with some of the key players in this trial just before John O'Keefe was found dead in a snowbank in
Canton more than three years ago. Jennifer McCabe is expected to return to the witness stand today to continue her testimony on questions about a discrepancy with regard to her grand jury testimony. Lawyers for accused killer Luigi Mangoni moved to dismiss state charges in New York. Twenty six year old has already pleaded not guilty to murder and terrorism charges there following the assassination of United Healthcare CEO Brian
Thompson outside of Manhattan hotel building in December. Attorneys say since Mangioni also faces similar federal charges that include the possibility of the death penalty. Charging him twice essentially violates his Fifth Amendment rights and the double jeopardy clause. A plea deal rejected by former music mogul Sean Diddy Combs, and jury selection begins in his federal trial on Monday.
Combs has fleted not guilty to racketeering, conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution charges that accused him of coercing alleged victims into prolonged drug fueled sexual activity that he called freak offs and threatening them into silence. At trial, Combs will ditch the jail garb and wear ordinary clothes, as his lawyers argue the evidence shows consenting adults being intimate in their own way.
At ABC's Aaron Katirski. Jury selection is expected to begin on Monday. Opening statements are scheduled for the following week. You are now in the loop for news updates throughout the day. Listen to WBZ News Radio on the iHeartRadio app. I'm Jeff Brown, WBZ Boston's News Radio
