We defining local news. Seventy two degrees in Boston. We have sunshine, a little bit of cloud cover here at six o'clock on this Friday morning. It is June twentieth, twenty twenty five. I'm Jim McKay. Let's get you ready for the weekend. Here's what's happening. Well, a break of the weather today before that, humidity really ramps up as we head off into the weekend.

Speaker 1

Windy day today with plenty of sunshine and lowercunity with highs.

Speaker 2

In the mid eighties, and there really is a decent breeze out there as we're getting going. That is exactly weather meteorologist Joe Lundberg. And it's also technically the first day of summer. You're getting excited.

Speaker 1

Mother nature got the memo that summer is here. As we look at tempts in the high eighties and the nineties over the next several days. Music to the Ears of Jesse. I think right now, like the temperature like yesterday and the day before were perfect warm, but not so much that you're dying, like, can't go outside it's so hot. Yeah, a lot of summer fun also in the forecast.

Speaker 3

Summer is just getting started, so I'm sure there will be some camping and road tripping in between.

Speaker 2

Road tripping and traveling always a popular activity this season.

Speaker 1

Yes, we are headed to North Carolina for Juneteenth, and we're gonna have a good time, just for a weekend. Of course, my daughter's birthdays coming up, so we got the summer plant out.

Speaker 3

I'm gonna go to Florida, have a good time. That's pretty much it.

Speaker 1

So you're traveling here, there, and everywhere everywhere. Yeah at Logan James Rojas w b Z Boston Snooze Radio all that.

Speaker 2

Lady's certainly got to go and I want to travel with her. At six oh one, get ready for another weekend of headaches on the Pike. Lane closures once again on the Pike eastbound and westbound all weekend long, beginning tonight, as Mass doc Cruise continue to work on the NBTA Railroad bridge between exits one twenty three and one twenty five that's Newton in Weston. Only one lane of travel is getting by in both directions. This happened, you remember a few weeks ago, So make sure you give yourself

plenty of time this weekend. On the Pike. Several boat owners and Charlestown are demanding answers after they spent the day cleaning up from a fireworks display. Several boats were damaged by the ashes that fell from the pyrotechnics from the Battle of Bunker Hill commemoration ceremony. Several boats were blanketed with soot and they've yet to get any answers about who's responsible if any equipment needs to be replaced. And it was fifty years ago today, June twenty, nineteen

seventy five, the official release of Jaws. Wbz's Drew moholland telling us even the makers of the film had no idea what it was about to be.

Speaker 4

A legendary shark thriller directed by Steven Spielberg, hit theaters on this day fifty years ago. The movie has had documentaries made about it, books, and has even hit Broadway. The latest form at the theater was The Shark Is Broken, a play about the behind the scenes chaos and the filming of Jaws off Martha's Vineyard. I spoke with the director of The Shark Is Broken, Guy Masterson, who tells me about the infamous Broken Shark and the actor as well, not exactly loving their time together.

Speaker 1

And they're at the mercy of being called when the shoot is right.

Speaker 3

And of course some days when the Shark didn't work, they were there all day without shooting.

Speaker 1

And then when the vinid has got a bit pissed off with them, you know, being there for so long.

Speaker 4

Is that true?

Speaker 2

Oh?

Speaker 1

Absolutely?

Speaker 3

You know, nobody liked anybody at that time, But nobody knew what Jees was going to be. That's the whole thing is.

Speaker 4

And Jaws was really something, wasn't it. This summer there are dozens of Jaws fiftieth events for fans. By the way, the Shark is Broken is coming to the Martha's Vineyard Performing Arts Center starting July fifth. Drew moholland WBZ, Boston's news radio.

Speaker 2

And also tonight on NBC a special airing of Jaws in a three hour special eight o'clock tonight. Certainly an awesome time if you're a fan of that movie, and who isn't Taking a look at that forecast and this portion of the news, by the way, is brought to you by your New England Toyota dealer, your Harbor, your hybrid all wheel drive headquarters. We're at seventy two right now in Boston. We do have some sunshine out there mixing in with clouds. Less humid today, but it will

still be pretty warm. But do you have a nice steady breeze right now, and that's going to stick with us here to cool things off a little bit hies into the mid eighties. The humidity returns around tomorrow, could see an afternoon thunderstorm, but really just a hot summer day. And by the way, we cross over into the summer solstice just after ten thirty this evening, so we will be officially the first weekend of summer. We're looking at here Sunday, we're closen here to ninety and then the

first full week of summer. We could have a potential heat wave early next week on our hands. Just get prepared for warm weather this weekend and it's going to be downright sweltering next week. Seventy two right now in Boston with a mixture of sunshine and clouds at six oh six. Well, summer arrives and the roads are about to get busy. Wbz's Matt fifth with more on the travel forecast.

Speaker 3

Here we go. More than seventy two million people will travel at least fifty miles of more over the Independence Day holiday period, which Triple A now considers June twenty eighth through July sixth.

Speaker 1

That's a nine day period. And we started this last year because we found that just looking at the July fourth weekend wasn't really giving us a good picture of how many people are actually moving around.

Speaker 3

Triple A Zaiksa Diaz says that would set another record. Five point eight million people are expected to fly over the fourth of July timeframe, which would also set a high mark. Matt Phipps WVZ, Boston's news radio.

Speaker 2

And at six ZHO seven. Israel and Iran continue to trade air strikes, with the Irani officials saying they struck five hospitals in Israel. It's unclear exactly what damages were done. Iran is also saying the hospitals are not the direct targets. Israel did confirm major damage to the large Soroka Medical Center. Also, the Iranian foreign minister is going to be in Switzerland today meeting with the U leaders who are urging diplomacy

as an end to this current conflict. Meantime, President Trump's campaign saying he will decide soon or that to join Israel against Iran's nuclear program.

Speaker 1

The President has repeatedly stated Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon, but whether the US will take direct action against Iran, I will make my decision whether or not to go within the next two weeks. White House Press Secretary of Caroline Levitt reading a statement from the President and adding Iran poses a serious threat.

Speaker 2

Iran has all that it needs to achieve.

Speaker 1

A nuclear weapon, saying it would take only a couple of weeks to do that once given the go ahead from Iran Supreme Leader. Lindy Kenyon, CBS News Washington.

Speaker 2

TikTok getting a three month lifeline. President Trump signing the executive order to keep the world's most popular app available in the US as the national ban was a day from going into effect. Today, a national ban was passed by Congress, upheld by the Supreme Court. It states TikTok must be sold off to an American ownership group if it is to remain available in the United States. There's been a huge interest from several billionaires in investment groups,

but no concrete deal yet. They've got another ninety days. You are now in the loop for news updates throughout the day. Listen to WBZ News Radio on the iHeartRadio app. I'm Jim McKay, WBZ, Boston's news radio
