Let's get more in this special report from ABC News.
This is a special report from ABC News. I'm Brian Clark. There are no survivors after Wednesday night's collision between an army helicopter and an American Airlines Regional passenger jet with sixty four people on board. The plane was descending at Reagan National Airport near Washington, d C. The recovery operations continue in the frigid Potomac River.
I'm very proud of our first responders who ran towards jet danger, got in dangerous waters and are really working hard to support those passengers. And on the military personnel on that helicopter.
That's DC Mayor Muriel Bowser. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The Blackhawk helicopter, with three crew members on board, was carrying out a routine training mission, sources tell ABC an early part of the investigation focuses on the helicopter's height. On that passenger jet members of the US figure skating community returning from a national event in Wichita.
This is ABC News, and again we learned they were members of the Skating Club of Boston, which has its facility in Norwood. The entire skating community is devastated. Well of more coming up shortly here on that deadly plane crash. The recovery efforts are still underway. Hamas led militants have now freed eight hostages as part of the ceasefire deal in the Gaza Strip. It's been a chaotic handover. The hostages were shuttled through a rowdy crowd of thousands by
mass militants. Now Israel later began releasing one hundred and ten Palestinian prisoners after the swap was initially put on hold by Prime Minister Benjamin Nettin Yahu, who demanded that mediators assure this effects of hostages. He later said he received that commitment. Lots of sun, very cool out there. It's only twenty five degrees in Boston. Are high today twenty eight. Many of you will walk out and say
it feels colder. It is real. Feel around fifteen or sixteen degrees out there, very chilly, and again very sunny. We clowd up tonight near twenty five early and then we rise. We're going to see a real warm up tomorrow as a new system comes in. That will be rain, because we're in the forties tomorrow before we dive back down into the freezing zone thirty two on Saturday, mostly sunny and dry. Sunday is a mix of rain and snow, so we're all over the meteorological map, so we have
a visual. Now the White House podium. We are standing by for President Donald Trump was about to hold a news conference on the deadly midair collision last night over the Potomac River. Sixty four people were on board the American Airlines plane. It collided with a military helicopter. Three troops on that and we're told that nobody has survived. We also learned this morning that among the dead six
members of our local figure skating community. Hes Yle Shaffle is at the Skating Club of Boston in Norwood with more.
It's a day of grief here for the Skating Club of Boston and Norwood as they lose two teenage skaters and more.
Besides Spencer and the best way possible is a crazy kid, highly talented, like incredibly talented. Gina just a wonderful kid, great athlete, great competitor, loved by all that CEO Doug Zeghib.
They're recounting the lives of Spencer Lane and Gina Hahn, both those skaters, the air mothers and two revered coaches parish on American flight fifty three forty two.
I don't know what the word is. Is it wrecked, is it devastated? Folks are just stunned by this.
He calls us a horrible loss both for the club and for the sport. The two coaches, Vadim Nomov and Genya Shishkova, were both highly regarded and influential. I asked if the club would remain open this week. Zeg Hive says yes.
Skaters are resilient and they want to skate. I think also they come to the club and will come to the club as an opportunity to come together.
Kyle Schaffel to be busy Boston's Housh Radio.
The crash is made for an uneasy day in the sky, said Logan Airport over now to wbz's Jim McKay. I feel for the families.
What happened in Washington last night is everyone's worst nightmare. Sheila is flying back to Charlotte after visiting her daughter in Boston and is flying with a heavy heart today. It's a tragic John is from Annapolis, Maryland heading back home via BWI Airport.
But I know there's still ice and if it's.
Only talking about the conditions of where the recovery operation is now taking place just outside of Reagan National.
Hopefully they were quick.
Unfortunately we have received the update there were no survivors. As the investigation is ongoing. Thoughts and prayers for the victims and their families front and center from everyone across the country from Logan Jim McKay, WBZ Boston's News Radio.
