Nearly six hundred members of Unite here Local twenty six have started an open ended strike at Hilton's Park Plaza and Logan Airport hotels. The union represents thousands of workers at Hilton, Marriott, and Omni hotels in Boston, so more workers could walk off the job if they can't reach deals fast. Unlike previous strikes, which were brief, they say these strikes will be twenty four to seven. Union president Carlos Romio is leading the charge.
There are people who've made the decision that they're worth something. They are working people who work with their hands every day. They get thirty every day going to work cleaning these rooms and cleaning dishes and cooking food and providing the service that the guests expect. And they've decided that there were something and that there were something that would allow them to continue to live in the city. Now.
The previous contract with Hilton expired on August thirty first, but according to the union, there's no negotiation sessions on the books right now. We've reached out to Hilton for comment but did not immediately hear back. Jared Brosnan WBZ Boston's News Radio.
Plans to rebuild the Sagamore Bridge continue to move forward. Governor Mora Heally announcing three hundred and fifty million dollars in federal funding will be transferred from the US Army Corps of Engineers to the Federal Highway Administration earmarked for work on the Sagamore. The project is expected to begin in twenty twenty seven. More than one point seven billion dollars in federal funding seven hundred million dollars in state funding just part of the funding needed to pick up
the Sagamore and Born bridges. The whole project is expected to take eight to ten years to complete. On the heels of Henleen, Florida Governor Ronda Santis he is declaring state of emergency as now, Tropical Storm Milton continues to develop over the Gulf of Mexico. Right now, Milton is packing winds of sixty miles per hour and could reach hurricane strength later today. It could then intensify to a Category three hurricane by the time it hits Florida's west
coast on Wednesday. Tomorrow marks one years since the October seventh attacks on Israel. New York City is among many cities racing for protests.
Mayor Eric Adams says the NYPD will be out in force, and while the mayor said he respects people's right to peacefully protest, he added there will be zero tolerance for those who violate the law, impede traffic and damage property. Flyers from one protest group say flood New York City for Palestine and ask demonstrators to assemble at one pm Monday on Wall Street. Other protest sites are to include City Hall and Times Square.
