The family of the last surviving Israeli American hostage, Eadon Alexander is eagerly awaiting as Hama says, he will be released sometime soon, potentially in the next few hours. Your CBS is Ramy and Assensia.
This family released a statement of joy. They got the news yesterday that was Mother's Day. They said, Today, on Mother's Day, we received the greatest gift, imaginable news that our son dan Is returning home after nearly six hundred days. They thanked President Trump, but then again demanded their own government, the Israeli government, get all of those hostages home, living and dead. They are believed to be fifty nine and in total.
Hamas did agree to release Alexander in the hopes of securing a cease fire deal. Alexander's parents flying from New Jersey over to Israel to greet him and President Trump at the White House today signing a new executive order, he says, we'll lower the cost of prescription drugs. The order sets a thirty day deadline to get the costs down. It also calls on HHS Secretary Robert Kennedy Junior to
broker a deal. If a deal is not reached by the deadline, that's when a new rule would kick in, tying the price of what the US pays for medications to lower prices paid by other countries.
Now.
The President tried to institute a similar order during his first term, but that was blocked by the courts when the pharmaceutical lobbies pushed back. Some prescription drug prices were lowered during the last administration. The Biden administration, with the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act that allowed Medicare to negotiate lower prices for certain drugs. Wall Street happy today is the US and China make a giant leap toward ending their ongoing trade war.
Under this agreement, the US would drop its tariff down to thirty percent and China would lower its rate to ten percent. And this, of course will come as welcome news to many US companies who had suspended orders from China and shipments to West Coast ports had been slowing dramatically over the past few weeks.
BBS Kaitlyn Huey burns there. Chinese officials say the two sides agree to what they call a trade consultation mechanism. kind of nice if you're outside walking around now. Later on tonight we will have clear to partly cloudy skies, low in the mid fifties on the coast and in Boston a little bit cooler if you're inland, forty eight to fifty or so. Then for tomorrow we start to see some more clouds move in and the breeze will kick up a bit. Still plenty of sun though, with a high in the low sixties on the coast, close
to seventy inland. If you're Wednesday, rather cloudy with a high in the mid sixties, low seventies inland, and Thursday mostly cloudy with a couple of showers moving through and high in the mid sixties.
