This just coming into the newsroom. A hearing in Boston Federal Court is abruptly called off now. A judge had wanted to figure out why a Rhode Island doctor was deported despite a court order not to. But now that hearing is not happening after all, CBS's Wendy Gillette has to tail a.
Federal judge in Boston cancel the planned hearing today regarding the removal of thirty four year old doctor Rasha Allowe from the country after two of her attorneys withdrew from the case. She holds an H one B visa to work at Brown University, but was detained at Logan Airport in Boston last week after flying back from Lebanon to
see family. According to a lawsuit, the judge barred her removal from Massachusetts, but Customs and Border Protection says the order was only received after she was flown out of the US. Wendy July CBS News.
Meanwhile, hundreds of alleged Venezuelan gang members are deported from the US to El Salvador, where they are now imprisoned. The Trump administration is accused of defying a judge's order against using wartime powers in order to deport the migrants without due process. Here's ABC's Mary Bruce.
After some non citizens represented by the ACLU sued the administration, that federal judge in an emergency hearing Saturday ordered any plane containing these folks that is going to take off ors in the air needs to be returned to the United States, adding this is something that you need to make sure is complied with immediately. The two planes already in the air, sources tell us the administration made the calculated decision to ignore that directive.
When the Trump administration denies defying the judge's order. Meanwhile, the Trump administration says that they'll target more student protesters for deportation after arresting a Columbia University grad student.
The Secretary of State says more student visas than green cards will be revoked as the federal government makes the case to remove mah Khalil, the Columbia grad students. Attorney Brad Parker says the only basis for the removal action is a determination solely by the Secretary of State.
That's it.
There's no criminal charges, there's no unlawful activity that's even alleged by the government.
At this point, Khalil's attorneys say they are challenging the basis for his detention, insisting again that he does not support Hamas.
At SABC Sonya Ricone reporting from New York City, the mayor of Quinsy is getting more pushedback on the plan to put two bronze statues at the city's new public safety headquarters that is set to open in October. According to The Patriot Ledger, the group Americans United for Separation of Church and State says that the statues of Saint Michael the Archangel and Saint Florian should not be erected
at a government building because of their religious symbolism. Saint Michael and Saint Florian are the patron saints of police and firefighters. The Massachusetts American Civil Liberties Union has also expressed its opposition. The pair of bronze statues will cost eight hundred and fifty thousand dollars. The Patriot Ledger says that Mayor Tom Coate he'll defend the statues in court
if it comes to that. That's ABC's Rachel Scott reporting US strikes have reportedly killed at least fifty three people in Yemen, including women and children. New Hampshire's Public Health Department issues a warning over raw mil that could be contaminated with listeria. That raw milk was sold at Brookvale Mercantile, located in Brentwood. The milk, labeled Brookvale Pines Farm, sold in half gallon containers with best if used by dates through March twenty second. If
