This is WBZ, Boston's news radio, redefining local news.
It makes a sun of clouds over Boston. It is sixty seven degrees in the city at eleven o'clock and morning. Thanks for joining us. I'm Kendall Bule. Here's what's happening. President Trump has signed in executive order to place higher tariffs on nearly seventy countries. All of them will be subject to at least ten percent tariffs on imports to the US, with others facing tariffs as high as forty percent. ABC's Jonathan Carl has the latest.
With this executive order set to go in effect seven days from now, there will soon be higher tariffs on virtually all of America's trading partners, the highest in nearly a century. Most economists say that means higher prices for almost all foreign made goods sold in the United States.
The tariffs have sent stocks tumbling across the globe and on Wall Street. We'll have the latest numbers with Bloomberg Business coming up at eleven oh eight. There's a troubling sign that the employment market is turning sour. ABC's Jim Ryan has more on last months jobs reports.
That Dow Jones estimate was for a meager one hundred thousand jobs to have been added last month. The Labor Department's actual number came in at only seventy three thousand, and continues a cooling trend that began in May. The one upside is that the weakening employment picture may give the Federal Reserve new incentive to lower interest rates when the Board of Governors meets in September.
The Labor Department's also reporting that revisions shaved two hundred and fifty eight thousand jobs off May and June payrolls. If you signed up for Biden era repayment plans on that school loan get ready to pay up, the average monthly payment could rise three hundred bucks per month's CBS News correspondent Jennifer Kuiper reports.
The Saving on a Valuable Education, or SAVE plan, was created by the Biden administration in twenty twenty three to help student loan borrowers. When it got tied up in the courts and put on hold, the Biden administration moved all of the enrollees into zero interest forbearance, meaning that their loans were temporarily placed on hold and interest stopped accruing. The Education Department under the Trump administration says resuming interest
on the loans represents a measure of fiscal responsibility. Jennifer Kuiper CBS News.

Can Braintree Little Leaguers punched their ticket to the Little League World Series? Well, they'll have their chance this weekend at the New England Regional in Bristol, Connecticut. Wbz's Jim McKay has that.
They've been working their butts off for this.
Some awfully proud residents of brain Tree camp to watch the Braintree American Little League team tomorrow on ESPN Plus as they take on Matchias, Maine at one o'clock the first round of the New England Regional.
