THEAA is blocking a controversial proposal that would have altered the regular season and extended the postseason for high school football. During a virtual meeting, the miaa's tournament management committee voted fifteen to one against the proposed changes, pushing them out of the end zone. The proposal would have eliminated consolation games, had the entire postseason after Thanksgiving, and cut the playoff
field in half. In addition, the proposal would have forced football players that made a Super Bowl game to miss the start of the winter sports season. The regular format will continue next year, which consists of eight regular season games, the playoffs starting in early November, and the state tournament at Gilette Stadium concluding the season around Thanksgiving. Football is currently the only sport where the postseason starts before the
end of the regular season. Brook McCarthy, WBZ, Boston's News Radio.
