Not all moms get to celebrate with their children. In Dorchester, thousands came out for an annual Mother's Day event honoring moms who have lost their kids to violence. Wbz's Hyle Shaffle has more.
The Walk for Peace takes place very intentionally on Mother's Day. It can be an emotional day for mothers who have had children taken too soon by violence.
On a day that we're afraid. We're leaning into each other because we need it. We can't do this alone, and we're not alone. So many people have been through it.
Ruth Henry's and artists and residence with the Lewis D. Brown Peace Institute. What started twenty nine years ago is the mostly local gathering of grieving families is now a massive event that draws thousands even from far outside Austin and overseas, and the mayor.
It reminds you that motherhood is transformational. You will do anything for this little being in your life.
The participants here walk to raise money for the institute and to raise awareness about how violence can tear families apart. The goal of this year is six hundred grand money to help people through grief and onward. Kyle Shaffel w BZ, Boston's News Radio.
US officials are sounding optimistic after weekend trade talks with China. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant led the US delegation. He briefly spoke to the media after Sunday's meeting wrapped up.
The talks were productive. We had the Vice Premier to vice ministers who were integrally involved, Ambassador Jamison and myself and I spoke to President Trump, as did Ambassador Jamison last night.
The talks aim to ease trade tensions between the US and China amid aggressive tariffs. Hamas says it plans to release a dual US Israeli citizen, Eden Alexander, as it looks to get a ceasefire deal across the finish line. CBS's Linda Gradstein has the details.
In a statement, Hamas said it is prepared to enter intensified negotiations aimed at reaching a final agreement to end the war, establish a mutually agreed prisoner exchange, and allow Gaza to be administered by an independent professional authority. While Idan Alexander is the only US citizens still being held by Hamas, there are a total of fifty nine hostages, both alive and dead. Aid organizations say Gaza is on
the brink of famine. After Israel has refused to allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza for more than two months.
Israel has begun letting humanitarian aid back in under the supervision of private contractors. The union representing concessions workers at Fenway Park may vote to go on strike next month. Unite Here Local twenty six as scheduled to strike authorization vote from June thirteenth to the fifteenth. The union represents over one thousand Era Mark employees at Fenway and MGM Music Hall. The union says they're fighting for substantial raises, arguing most workers make under twenty dollars an hour, which is less than other
Major League all parks. In a statement to WBZ News Radio, Aramark says they intend to keep working with the union toward a settlement that works for everyone, and if there is a strike, they have plans to ensure that services are not interrupted. The winning jockey of this year's Kentucky Derby is punished for his treatment of the winning horse.
Just days after learning Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty would not be racing in the Preakness Stakes, Jockey Junior Alvarado was suspended two days and fined sixty two grand for using his riding crop on Sovereignty too many times during the race at Churchill Downs. The Horse Racing Integrity and Safety Authority issued its ruling after determining Alvarado whip Sovereignty eight times.
Rule state jockeys may use their crops no more than six times Alvarado's punishment was doubled because it was his second violation within one hundred and eighty days. Erica Herskowitz for CBS News.
Linfield Police and the SXDA are investigating an apparent homicide on Lookout Terrace in Lynnfield. Police responded to a nine to one one call at about eight thirty Friday evening and found fifty five year old Timothy O'Neill of Lynnfield with apparent trauma.
