This is WBZ, Boston's news radio, redefining local news. It is a breezy twenty six degrees in Boston at four o'clock. I'm Emma Friedman, and here's what's happening. Well, we start off at Logan Airport, where the winter mix has been putting a wrinkle in the holiday spirit. W BZ Suzanne Soasville is talking with travelers at terminal A.
You guys got by process already.
Yeah, well you have about it.
Prom Let me shoot lots of delays, but just a handful of cancelations. Unfortunately for Patrick, his is one of them.
My first one kept getting delayed and then eventually got canceled. I got put on a flight that never even happened after that, and then now have three or two layovers before I get to one him.
He's frustrated as he travels to see his family for Christmas. Is it worthing?
Questioning it? But yeah, it will be once I'm there.
Nicole, who's wrangling or two year old before their flight to Saskatchewan, has the right at it.
I think if you just leave enough time for flying, then that alleviates a lot of stress, especially this time of the year.
Some flights are actually taking off a little early, so make sure you get to the airport with plenty of time to spare At Logan's Suzanne Slausville WBZ Boston's News Radio.
Right now at Logan Airport, there's around three hundred and twenty eight delays according to flight Aware, eighty eight cancelations, so that's more delays than we saw about twenty minutes ago. Definitely check on your flight before going to the airport today, and you can always stay tuned into US here on WBZ news Radio or stream US on the iHeartRadio app. Now to Washington, where President Biden has now signed a
bill averting a government shutdown. Congress passed a short term government funding bill late last night, dropping President Elecdonnald Trump's demands for a debt limit increase into the new year. CBS's Erica Brown has more.
The new spending package will fund the government for the next three months with more than one hundred billion dollars and disaster aid and ten billion and aids of farmers. This comes after a dramatic showdown unfolded on Capitol Hill this week after President elected Donald Trump and a billionaire Elon Musk preussured Republican lawmakers to vote against the original bipartisan spending bill or risk being voted out themselves.
The Senate has also passed a separate measure to fund pediatric cancer research. The funding was one of the provisions in Congress's original bipartisan package before it was taken out. And yesterday's snowstorm brought anywhere from a dusting to several inches of snow for several parts of Massachusetts. Wbz's Sherry Small has more.
The jackpot from friday snowstorm was in Milton, with reports of more than a half foot of snow. Benway Park saw six inches, while places like Needham and Norwood saw five and a half. The storm caused major problems on the roadway's. Mass State Police say they responded to two hundred crashes statewide, and more than one hundred of those were deemed serious. And Friday was quite the man At
Logan Airport, we're according to fly to war. By the end of the day, Logan had seen five hundred and seventy two flights delayed, one hundred and eighty eight flights canceled. Sherry Small WBZ Boston's news radio.
Right now it is four to oh four. It is a very chilly twenty six degrees in Boston. We were just seeing a smidge of snow coming around into the South Boston area. It's right around fort in dependence right now, So if you're driving around Boston, just keep an eye out for that. And it's gonna get colder as we go into the evening here. It's gonna get as low as fourteen degrees, but it's gonna feel below zero at times.
Cannot stress enough. Now's the time to bundle up, grab those hats, anything you need to keep warm out there, especially those mittens or whatever you want to keep your hands warm. As for tomorrow, we're gonna see some sun, but it's still very cold. Once again, bundle up. Weather high of twenty one degrees and going into Monday, morre same thing as we're seeing this weekend, sun and clouds, a high of twenty seven and that's how it's going
to stay going into Tuesday and our holiday week. Right now, it is four to five, and it's so long to the slow zones. The MBTA is about to free these speed restrictions.
It's been a long wait, but it's finally here. The MBTA reports there are no longer any speed restrictions on the Green Line. Track repairs are completed, and the closed sections of the trolley line reopens Saturday morning. MBTA General manager Philippang says the Tea can now monitor track conditions and make repairs quickly when needed.
No longer will a speed restriction or condition linger for years or months. We will be tackling them in days, weeks, maybe the same day, as we've done with some recent speed restrictions that have occurred.
Like the Green Line, the Red Line and Blue Line are also operating at full capacity, and the Tea says that it's committed to robust inspections, maintenance, and track repairs so the sister will operate reliably going forward. Mike Macklin WBZ, Boston's news radio.
And soon there won't be any restrictions on the Orange Line either. MBTA officials say that the work was supposed to be done last night, but the snow forced them to reschedule it to tonight. Once that's complete, the Orange Line will also be slow zone free. And a New York man pleads guilty to targeting and stealing from Asian
families homes in several Massachusetts Towns. Prosecutors say Juan Casanto racially targeted homes in Newton, Quincy, Wellesley, and Andover in twenty twenty one, stealing two hundred thousand dollars worth of cash, jewelry, watches, and even a gun. Gastano pleaded guilty to twenty one indictments for targeting and burglarizing homes owned by Asian and
South Asian families. He is already serving a prison sentence up to eleven years in New York for similar conduct, but for his Massachusetts crimes, he'll be tacking on four to five years to HISS, which will run consecutively with his sentence in New York. A co defendant is due to face trial in April. And forget the Witches, it's time for holiday shopping. Wbz's Jared Brosnan explains.
Salem's best known for its Halloween festivities, but there's no shortage of Christmas fund in the Witch City. Unlike in October when they encourage you to take public transportation, they're offering free parking now through Christmas. This applies to municipal lots, garages, and those pesky meters, so you won't have to sprint back to your car after shopping. Jared Brosnan, WBZ Boston's news radio.
And tire pressure problems forced Tesla to recall almost seven hundred thousand vehicles. The recall affects the twenty twenty four Cyber Truck, the twenty seventeen through twenty twenty five Model three, and the twenty twenty to twenty twenty five Model Wise.
In a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, TESLA says there's a problem with the tire pressure warning light, so that light will not necessarily go on when your tire pressure is low, which could result in an accident. TESLA says it's re leasing a software update that will fix the issue. You are now in the loop for news updates throughout the day.
