This is WBZ, Boston's news radio, redefining local news forty four degrees in Boston at four o'clock. Good afternoon. I'm Ben Parker. Here's what's happening. A suspect is arrested in Pennsylvania connected with the murder of the United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City. CBS's Matt Piper tells us he was spotted at a fast food restaurant.
It was someone at a McDonald's in the middle of Pennsylvania who saw something and said something. After photos had been circulating online over the last six days of the man police he killed United Healthcare CEO. Someone in that fast food restaurant recognized him and called police. NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny.
And Altoona, Pennsylvania. He's going to be facing gun charges there and at some point we'll work out through our tradition to bring him back to New York to face charges here, working with the Manhattan District Attorney's Office.
That person of interest is twenty six year old Luigi Mangioni Matt Piper, CBS News.
The now former president of Bashar al Assad has been granted asylum by Russia. The dictator was outed over the weekend by Jahadi insurgents, but what comes next?
White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan says it's good for the US and the world that the Assad regime was brought down in Syria, but Sullivan reiterated the President's warning about the potential for a power vacuum now in Syria and the risk that brings.
There's an opportunity to build something better in Syria, but there is concern the terrorists, jihadists, and other people who do not have the United States best interests at heart, to say the least, could take advantage of this.

As the state auditor looks to get a peek at the legislature's books, the one time head of the Massachusetts Republican Party is filing sued seeking to force the legislature to comply. According to The Salem News, the lawsuit, filed Friday in Suffolk Superior Court by and over state Rep.
Jim Lyons. Former rep, alleges that a recent vote by the House of Representatives amending its rules to hire an outside audit violates the preventis of question one and does it in a derogation of the separation of powers and the rights of the voters. Ballot Question one was overwhelmingly approved in the November election, empowering State Auditor Diana Dezaglio
to audit the legislature. The auditor and those who put Question one on the ballots say they would likely take a legal challenge to force leaders on Beacon Hill to comply. There'll be a change of date for the Karen Reid second criminal trial of the Busy's Brook McCarthy. With the latest on the decision from a judge in Norfolk Superior Court.
Both sides in the Karen Reid case now have more time to prepare for her upcoming second criminal trial after Judge Beverly Canoni approved a joint motion by the prosecution and defense to move the trial from January to April of next year. A hearing to go over the exact details, including scheduling for the second trial, is set for Thursday. In their filings, both sides wanted more time because of
new expert witnesses and retesting of Reed's suv. The Commonwealth has also hired Special Prosecutor Hank Brennan to lead the second trial Reid's first criminal trial, and it was a mistrial in July after the jury said they were deadlocked. Reid is accused of hitting her Boston Police officer boyfriend John O'Keeffe with her SUV and leaving him in the snow to eye. She says she was framed. Emotions hearing that was set for tomorrow has been canceled at the
request of the defense. Brooke McCarthy WBZ, Boston's news radio.
In winter weather advisory up for parts of northern Worcester County, especially northern Worcester County and out into the Berkshires where we'll have some more frozen precipitation. Certainly some slick road conditions are a possibility as we go through the next several hours and overnight tonight. We do on the rain overspreading most of the area. Some of it's coming down
fairly heavily as well. There's a pretty hefty downpour out in the Springfield area, out along the I ninety one corridor, in a little heavy burst of rain out toward the Conquered actin Littleton area, So watch out of that as we head through the afternoon. And then those frozen spots that could just slick up the roads and certainly untreated surfaces for some of those areas with the winter weather advisory.
We do warm up, however, as we head through the next several days overnight to night, that rain and drizzle and maybe the little bit of slick spots showing up, then some lingering drizzle to start tomorrow, some clouds linger some drizzle could as well areas of fog forty one to forty five for the high tomorrow night. We bring the rain back in. A steadiest rain arrives late tomorrow night,
temperatures in the upper thirties. Wednesday, we're going to see temperatures that'll make a run towards sixty degrees, but you're not going to probably want to be outside running around it. That's because it's going to be raining a lot. We could get some heavy downpours causing some low lying and poor drainage area flooding. And it will be very windy as well, fifty to sixty mile an hour gusts, especially near the coast, maybe even some higher gusts as you
head down toward the Capean Islands. So a very soggy, windy day on Wednesday, and then we cool down a little bit. Thursday, mid forties, still a little windy, but mostly sunny skies develop Right now, it is forty four in Boston with a statewide free community college program in place, WUS Kyle Shaffle I went to see just how they're coping with the influx of students.
The halls of north Shore Community College are fuller than.
Ever, definitely double the number of applications to process.
The surgeon interest caused by the state's free community college program. We checked in to see how north Shore and other colleges are doing. One semester in President Bill Hineman says they've seen a twenty percent bump in students.
Nothing we can't handle, but definitely that many more students that quickly is a challenge.
The flood of new students walking the halls means more work for professors and the admissions and Financial aid department.
We're thrilled it happened fast and we're working through that, but we couldn't be more excited.
The college and the others like it are asking the state for more funding to cover new hires and increased demand. Kyle Shaffle to be busy Boston's news radio.
