I was so spent, I could hardly move. And so, Harlly, Jeaun, and Lawson went ahead of me. They stretched their legs and walked along the shore. At the edge of the jungle, they stopped. I was certain they were going to look back at me, flatten their ears to their heads, and growl. That they would bring our relationship to an end in some way. But they just stared ahead into the jungle. And then Harlly, Jeaun, and Lawson, my fierce companions, the terrible ones who kept me alive, disappeared forever from my life.
