Lauren

Now ? We listen .

Mallory

Hello Lauren Hi Mallory , how's it going ? It's going as I always say yeah , it's moving along . Good to know . I feel like that should just be like my tagline it's going , it's going . Can you do it with more of like a mid-Atlantic ? Yeah , I guess I could . Okay , that'd be cool Work on it . I'm just kidding .

I'll just try and sound a little bit more like John Mulaney Fair he does kind of have that thing going on , doesn't he ?

Twinnie

He definitely does .

Mallory

Yeah .

Lauren

He sounds like a 1920s radio announcer .

Mallory

So things you don't think of , Yep , no Drink of the week , yeah .

Lauren

Drink of the week Drink of the week yeah , Drink of the week .

Mallory

What are we drinking today , lauren ? Well , we are drinking a blueberry Christmas margarita . A blueberry Christmas margarita . What's in this ? It is I made it my own blueberry simple syrup , which was just delish . How'd you do it ? Blueberries , water and sugar , I guess , and then fresh coconut milk from the can and tequila and a little bit of lime .

That's about it . Well , it's lovely . It's kind of like a tropical Christmas . Yeah , it's about two ounces of coconut milk , two ounces of blueberry syrup , and , well , I usually do four ounces of tequila , three or four , three ounces , I think of tequila . Two ounces of tequila . I don't know , it tastes strong enough .

Malacolique y Macca , I like it strong and you know , spritz of lime . Well , it's very delicious . Thank you once again . Malacolique y Macca , is that what you said ? Yeah , it is Totally a tropical Christmas , but it's on theme . It is For our interview guest this week .

Twinnie

Yes , it is .

Mallory

It absolutely is , Because she has a new Christmas EP . She has a new Christmas EP called Blue Christmas . She also has another EP called Blue Hour After Dark and they've been released pretty close together . And she's a tequila fan and she's a tequila fan , so we had to do a tequila drink . We had to put it all together .

She's also our second guest from across the pond . Oh my gosh , yeah Right 20s on the podcast today , fresh off her Opry debut , her song Bad Men has charted on the country charts .

Twinnie

She was also on the highway on Sirius recently .

Mallory

I think you know , I'm just really excited to talk to her .

Twinnie

The sky's the limit .

Mallory

It absolutely is . Should we go get her ? Let's do it All right . Welcome to the podcast 20s .

Twinnie

Thanks for coming by , Thanks for providing me with possibly my new favorite drink .

Mallory

Oh , yay , I'm glad you liked it . Oh my gosh .

Twinnie

It's so nice , the coconut . I've never tried with tequila and I feel like I'm kind of being healthy , which just makes me want to drink that .

Mallory

Yeah , Because coconut's healthy right .

Twinnie

Right yeah .

Mallory

It's healthy fats and there you go . And real blueberries .

Twinnie

So I mean , the only bad thing about it is the sugar in my eyes .

Mallory

Yeah , really , and I always go light on the sugar . Anyway , even if I'm making a simple syrup , I always try .

Twinnie

Basically about a smoothie . Yeah , yeah , right , you've got a smoothie with tequila .

Mallory

Yeah , when did that happen ? I mean , oh , that's called a daiquiri , apparently you should .

Twinnie

Actually is healthier for you to drink earlier in the day than it is at night . Oh really , Apparently .

Mallory

We've got it all wrong . Well , national's got that on lock . I think , yeah , yeah , definitely . At least we live where we live .

Lauren

I mean yeah .

Mallory

When we moved here we were like man , you just you go for a ride and people like you want to , you want a glass of whiskey or whatever , and you're like it's noon , yeah , and you just get used to it . But there are days when you're like , sure , yeah .

I mean totally , I'm like and you feel like you're at first you're like , oh man , I feel like I'm what is this life ?

Twinnie

And then you get used to it and you're like yep , that's , that's the problem Because you literally can drink so much in this town . It's like a music town with a drinking problem , but it's just so . It's because it's such a social town , yeah , yeah , and also it's kind of part of the culture , I feel like absolutely I feel like I've done some of my best .

Network in it Red door .

Mallory

Yeah , totally yeah .

Twinnie

Yeah , I'm not even lying , I'll call you tomorrow and they're like sure , yeah , right , yeah , so yeah . That's one of my hot tips for the new person in town .

Mallory

No , I already generous queen tips for the new views .

Twinnie

I always say all my friends know that like I don't really like going to red door , but it's just a place that everybody gathers . And it's even to the point now where the bounces I'm like I'm never coming back here again and the bounces like back here again . Yes , because I'm a .

She has my favorite place and it's Tuesday today and it's Hong Kong Tuesdays American Legion .

Mallory

Oh yeah , oh yeah , oh that is like my favorite place .

Twinnie

It is the best .

Mallory

It is so much fun . We haven't been there in a minute . I think the last time we were there we went with Sierra Farrell . And it was like so much fucking fun . It was like and I and we ran into , like so many people , we were making tin types and stuff .

Twinnie

Yeah , it was so cool . Yeah , I mean , I think my friends think I've got shares in it , because that's how much I go on about it . Any new ?

Mallory

person . It's so great let's go to America Legion and they're like American Legion really , because in any other town it's like . That's like where the old guys hang out .

Twinnie

And in Nashville , like there's so many young young ones there is , my grandma would say . But what I like about it is people are present , people are not on their phone and it's the only place in Nashville that you can go , where a guy can ask you to dance and it doesn't feel creepy .

Mallory

Yes , and it's so true Also , I think , for me .

Twinnie

I used to be a professional dancer , so for me I there's actually professional dancers that I adore . I adore dancing with my mate Rick . He's awesome and like he'll just spin me around and I don't know like that's one of my like you're , like you're getting .

Mallory

I'm getting my feel like that's my like passion .

Twinnie

Anybody that knows me knows I absolutely love to dance and I'll do that in any music video given the chance of my own . But I just think it's a great place and it really shines a light on what true Nashville is and . I just like that tradition , that they're trying to keep that alive and it's about .

It just reminds me more of like why I moved here , because there's so much community and you can go and everyone's just outside . It's literally like stepping back in time and people are having a cigarette outside Like I don't know .

Mallory

It's like true quintessential East Nashville , specifically East Nashville . It's like everybody's welcome and it's you're going to have a hell of a good time yeah right , and it's there's no . Like there's no , mustn't fuss , it's like it's just , you know , four dollar beers and and a good time .

Twinnie

Yeah , absolutely so . I'll probably get paid by them for this promotion . Yeah .

Mallory

American Legion wants to sponsor this podcast . Well , tony , here on the liner notes podcast , what we like to do is we like to attempt to create what we call an audio capsule . Yeah , and you know , when a lot of us were young ins , as you said , we would go to the mall and we'd buy a CD or a record .

And you can still do those things , but it's , you know , becoming less and less . And you used to sit with the CD jacket or the record sleeve and you'd go through and you'd read where you know who wrote the songs , where they were recorded , and you can find that data now , but you have to go looking for it .

Twinnie

You have to know , where it is , so we feel like there's not as romantic it's like on the Internet .

Mallory

Yeah , that is true , that's a good point .

Twinnie

Romantic , it's not as nostalgic , yeah , nostalgic . You find it by yourself and having that discovery , yeah .

Mallory

It made it more tangible in a way , and so we feel like there's just so many artists that deserve to have a version of that , to have kind of a time capsule of their work thus far .

So , with that in mind even though we know you've probably answered this question several times on many , you know , publicity questionnaires or whatever For our listeners who've never heard 20 before , can you just give us a brief back story as to how you got into writing , performing , recording music , dancing , anything you want to share ?

Twinnie

Oh , okay , so I'm trying to think I will down .

Early Stage Acting Career and Ambitions

I was born in 19 , 24 years .

Mallory

Seriously , thank you . Good genes .

Twinnie

I honestly feel like I've had many different lives . So I started on stage when I was like four years old and was kind of just . I think my family life was very hectic , so I love to be the clown .

I'm the oldest of four so I had like I was always put on like babysitting duty or so I'd like do stuff with the kids and like make literally met my brother and sister , reenact scenes of Disney , because I grew up on like this is one of the reasons why I want to have kids because I'm like I get to watch all the shows again . More than that .

But I was really fascinated because my grandparents who were still alive they're 87 and 88 . They were obsessed with like the rap pack , judy Garland , frank Sinatra . I grew up on like Hollywood movie musicals and I could always . I'm a very quick learner but I do not have like if I'm not interested in it , I just don't practice .

So I think like dancing was one of those things . Acting , singing , even writing . I started out writing poems . I was always like very trying to express myself , be a little bit of a drama queen . Probably didn't get enough attention as a kid , to be honest , but I started on stage .

They put me in , like I was always in like your school plays and stuff like that I did like my first TV job and like pantomime , which is I don't think you have them there like theater show when I was like seven or six or something .

So I'd like grown up on the stage , which I think was kind of like a really good training for like when I did meet famous people later on , because I was working with such famous people when I was younger , like I was like this doesn't bother me .

It was just like really good discipline to be doing , like at Christmas you do like eight shows a week , and so I did a lot of acting . I left home when I was 15 , went to like a stage music drama school . My family is super tight and my dad's side of the family are all Roman Egyptians .

Lauren

That's amazing .

Twinnie

Yeah , my mom's called a gorgeous , which means non traveler . So I was kind of trapped in these , like it was like a different version of myself with each side of my family . So I feel like when I was on stage I could be like completely free and myself . So I was just obsessed with like dancing in my bedroom and like like literally with the headset on .

And because I had such a massive family , like I say , my grandma was into the rat pack , judy Gallant , all them kind of stuff .

My dad was more you rolling stones , billy Joel and Abba , funny enough , and my mom was like Abba , shania Twin , gilbert O'Sullivan which nobody kind of really knows but I think he's like an amazing songwriter , and I was growing up with the Spice Girls and Shania Twin and like I heard Dolly , who's a national on country music like I heard of .

And then we you talk about like CDs and stuff I had , like they used to I don't know whether they do this here , but they had like now this is 2000 or now this is like so you would have like all the hits and I would just like with my CD . We're like dancing .

And so I went to college , stayed there for two years , left early because my first job was in the West End with a guy called Brian May from Queen , and so I did a lot of musical theater and usually when you do musical theater . So I think I was like 18 or just about to turn 19 .

I got in that show and I was in it for a year and it was amazing , like it was . I was spout really and 19 years old , like standing ovation by 3000 people every night . You kind of get used to that . So by the time I did went on to my next show .

It was a Blondie musical where I met Blondie and I was ensemble in my first job and I was just like this is not for me . I am leaving Like most people when they get in the West End .

I think I've been always extremely ambitious and always knew that I wanted to sing , but I didn't have like definitely my dad's side of the family would not interested in entertainment or anything like that .

It's very much like you get married at 19 , you have babies and that's like your kind of world , whereas my I mean my dad was always supportive , but it was like my mom that was pushing me to do like taking me to my dance lessons , and my grandma , which was my dad's mom , and I just remember thinking I was like I do not want to be behind the star , I

want to be in the spotlight .

Mallory

I remember .

Twinnie

I was like I fully remember the moment because most people would be their first job in the West End . People go on cruises , people do all sorts of it . It like sometimes takes years for that opportunity and it's not that I didn't appreciate it , but I was just very certain of like what I wanted to do .

So my next job was the Blondie musical and that was called desperately seeking Susan , which was based on a film and it lasted like it was desperately seeking two more weeks because it closed within two more weeks . And then that was the first time I was like out of a job and I was like , oh my gosh , what should I do ?

And then , luckily , because I my dance teacher . I always thank her for this . She was like , if you can like sing , dance , act , write , add as many strings to your boat as possible , you will always work and touch wood . I have never had a normal job , meaning normal job of like , apart from when I was like 15 working in a restaurant or anything like that .

I've always done things with art , which is I'm truly grateful for that . So because I could like kind of like a triple threat , it was at the time where like people were going on television like reality stars and then coming into like musical theater .

Mallory

Right .

Twinnie

So they were essentially like they put bumps on seats . It's a business .

But I was like really like annoyed by the fact like I trained and like people that being on television for like two seconds , I was like okay , but because I could sing , dance and act , I think I was like the youngest Vel McKelley in Chicago the musical , and then , like , did a few more shows , did a few more leads and I was like I was always doing gigs

on the side but I was like I don't know anyone . How do you get to know ? Like I remember , even when I was like nine years old , looking through the yellow pages which , like anybody that's watching this , probably you know you might be able to remember the yellow pages .

Mallory

I don't know whether you had it here but we've got an array of age ages on it .

Twinnie

It was like a phone book that you could . I looked at the universal music and I was like , please will you sign me and my songs and send in my cutie . But delusion I mean delusion has been working for me we that's what they told us .

Mallory

Yes , it's true , and that's what they told us . She just walked in there , right that's what Taylor Swift did .

Twinnie

To be honest , Like I wish I had lived here , Like that's the thing in . London in like England , there wasn't a place where you could just I didn't know about London . London was scary , like so much so that I got a scholarship for a stage school called Lyd Theatraz and my parents were like you're not going down to London at 16 . They wouldn't let me go .

So the teacher that taught there , he had a school in Blackpool and you could do like a full-time class in three days but then work , come home and work for the rest of the day . So , which was amazing , actually I'm so pleased I did it because it taught me the value of money I was paying for my own fees . So I've always had that discipline of like working

The Journey of a Musician

. Anyway , I got sidetracked but like I did those leads , I wanted to . I still was doing shows , I was writing . I was like , how do I get into like music ?

And there was a guy called Olly Thompson who was like the lead in Rock of Ages and he was like I want to introduce you to my manager because it was back when , like musical theater stars in the western , like equivalents , broadway , was doing like albums , like just cover albums .

So he was really big and he introduced me to a guy called Thomas Amby who was now , consequently like young Bloods manager and he was like you really remind me of like a young , like rockier version of Shania Twin and I'd like listen to .

I mean I was obsessed with her , but I was just obsessed with like her as an artist of , like the way she expressed herself and the way that she thought about the videos , and I was like quite an obsessed kid about watching videos , music videos especially . So I did like sessions . He introduced me to a bunch of people . Yeah , yeah , yeah .

I got introduced to a guy called John Green who is now like a hit song , right , he's based over here , but he was like the way that you write is very storytelling , I think you'd really like Nashville .

So he brought me over and I was so green , I was so naive , I was like I'd only done like a few sessions like really of cowriting , and come into this town .

I mean I'm up for anything , like I'll go like put me to work , but it kind of like whooped my ass a little bit of like three sessions a day , because I think with writing , especially for me , I mean some of the best songs that are so personal to me I think I've written by myself , but in collaboration I think is so cool because you get a different

perspective , but I wasn't . I'm so headstrong as an artist that I really have to like it's a weird job .

Mallory

And it is , it is , you go in and you're like hey , so I basically just got divorced .

Twinnie

Or like I've just broken up with this person and you have to like word , vomit your life and then hope to strangers , to strangers and like out the ether . You just like , okay , maybe I'll get a good song . And then you like kind of feel weird that you're like shared what you shared in the writing room and I was like I don't even know these people .

What's going on ? But John Green introduced me to like Lucy Silvers , who was like my fucking sister . I could not do without that girl in my life . Dave Barnes , like so I felt like I had a fast track to so many people that were just like , firstly , good fucking humans but amazing at their job , and I just I was like a sponge .

I just wanted to learn off everybody . You know , I think my . So I came back and forth for like seven years and then I decided to make the move this year in April . Yeah , thank you .

And then , yeah , kind of like the rest of history , like I moved because I went through a really which like kind of inspired this blue hour EP very like , I think , because of my musical theater background and acting I forgot to mention . So after the musical theater people came in I was like I need to get on TV , I need to do this .

So I had like a whole career in TV and film and like work with Glenn Close and all this stuff happened .

And then I finally moved and I was like actually because you do do like a comparison you're like shit , I wish I'd moved here early and it's a 10 year town and blah , blah , blah , and I'm just like actually some of the stuff that I've done this is why I feel like I had different lives is because it's it all of it is is part of me and you know I

believe in like God's time and universal timing , but it is made me hone in on certain skill sets that now I can direct my own music videos , I can edit , I can like choreograph stuff or like I know how to manage .

Mallory

Yeah , it's a 10 year town . If you come in your green , I guess like , like but that's any time . I feel like LA is like that too , yeah , and you have to just like I don't think it's necessary , it's like not , it's not a rule , and I think that , well , and you coming in with that , you know , well rounded of a background .

I'm sure , and you've been coming for seven years already . So there you go and you're in it to win it .

Twinnie

So yeah , right , and you're already doing great things . So , yeah , Well , I did miss out traps and so , like John Green , I did a lot of sessions with writing and then I got a new management company and then they I got signed by BMG UK , which was they just like started a label , so they were fresh . And this was like back in .

Like I mean , five , six years ago , Spotify really wasn't a thing like you could catch an algorithm if you were like smart enough and all this stuff . And then they the pandemic happened . They launched my album called Hollywood Gypsy and that was like a real reflection time Because I was like it's so funny and it was a great lesson .

Because I was like , if I ever win it like a Grammy or like anything , I was like putting my album out never felt the way that I thought it would feel and I know that it was a lot to do with the pandemic Like I never got to like go buy it in a store or like we had to . Like we had to rearrange the tour like three times .

I was like it is so fucking important to enjoy the journey . That's what that taught me , because I actually didn't enjoy being with a major label all that much . I'm very much like there was .

So there was like you just in a system , and if you're like not first in line , if you're not making enough money which I wasn't , you know like , you have to be consistent and build , and I don't think I was that savvy enough when I was in it with like social media .

I just thought , well , you get a record delay label and everything's like magically happened . Yeah , it's like the old times but it wasn't like that and I loved everyone on that team and I still am really good friends with like John Lovis .

We did the pandemic and BBR really loved my stuff and they were like , we're going to do this EP called Welcome to the Club , put that out and I unfortunately wasn't growing as much as like they thought I would .

And then you know , money or whatever politics I got dropped from the UK which didn't have anything to do with the American label , which that's what I was like kind of sad about , but I think it would have helped me being here a lot sooner .

Mallory

Had you not done the label , had you not been signed over there ? I mean , I'd been .

Twinnie

Yeah , well , yeah , I think if I'd have been signed here , they would have had them like more ownership . Yeah , I'm speaking truthfully , and it's called music business . So now we're running nonprofit called I Know A Woman and I really teach about like I just want to help people and be of service .

I'm like use me up Like I as long as I'm not exhausted , which I very much , I'm all the time , but I love to see people win , especially women . And I think it was very much a culture shock when I came here , because we have radio one and radio two and then we have country radio that I look at the chart and I'm like what's going on there ?

I'm like don't really understand why this . I mean this .

Mallory

I feel like most women specifically in this town are not , are just like oh yeah , I'm not even trying to get on radio , they're just like I mean radio game .

Twinnie

as I've heard , it is like it's very much about money and it like can be very political at times . But one of my biggest goals is to like be the first British female to ever have an American country number one and I'm like I want to manage best that shit .

But also I want to do with the right team that actually believe in you know you've already got like Lady Wilson , carrie Underwood , you don't need another one . Like I want to be 20 , you know , like I feel like it's really important .

Everyone's got super power and you've got to just be yourself , because by the time they're like people are chasing someone's cool , but by the time you like produce them and put it out , it's like well , that's already last year like your best superpower is like expressing you like it's a .

Mallory

I think that's never going to go out of style .

Twinnie

No , but it really isn't , it really isn't , and I think people can like really sense when it's authentic . And you know , I played like the way I loved you . I wrote that in my bedroom at 2am when I was absolutely fucking heartbroken over my partner and this was how I ended up in Nashville .

So I was with someone for almost 10 years and we yeah , tell me about you do less time in prison Seriously . And the thing is , that song to me is like it's so sad but it's so beautiful as well , because it was like okay , I got it , like I just got to trust and believe the way that he did .

It was like harsh , because we were probably not that great for each other , but he was stronger than I and blocks me on everything . He emailed me to tell me it was over and never spoke to me again .

But do you know what , like I often think about this because I still have a lot of love for that person , like he you know how I am today is a lot of like what he taught me , like he taught me how to be so good in business .

And I think when you truly really do love somebody and I would say I'm definitely not in love with him anymore , but like I do have a lot of love for him I just want him to be okay and happy and I think it takes a long time to kind of process that emotion and accept and I think the way I love you if you listen , that's why his voice is actually on

. I was wondering about that , yeah , his voice , because I was going through my voice notes and I was like I want to capture like the love that we had in this three minute song , no matter like when we both die , it's out there because he really did mean the world to me and I think like I had a lot of growth to do .

Ten years , that's a decade , that's a long time . That's like a big chunk of life that you guys did together it definitely is a lot of fights , a lot of like laughter , a lot of like everything you know .

And I think that , yeah , I just I think that's a really that kind of sums up the EP for me , blue Hour and that's why I'm such a conceptual person , because that was based on true life of .

Breakup Journey and Personal Growth

I hated the nights , because the nights would fucking ruin me , because I had no one to talk to . I would often like be up at four o'clock in the morning and I'd just ring my friends from American and they're like , why are you up ? And I was like I can't sleep , can you just talk to me ? And I'd fall asleep on the phone to them .

And it was like I wanted to like kind of do this story of like , because Blue Hour is actually a thing .

It appears just before , just after the sun goes down and just before the sun comes up , and I feel like this journey of like a breakup of like a night , it's like 10 years in a night and all these different songs , it's like just like the tagline is like it's I mean , it's the most psychotic song that you'll ever hear , I love it , it's like I say around

to like do you want to hear a sad song ? Do you want to be depressed ? Do you want to hear a psychotic song ? They're like psychotic and they love a murder ballad .

Mallory

We do . We've been known to love a murder ballad .

Twinnie

But it's like that song is like luckily , it's like legal to kill you and all my songs , and I think at the time I mean I did , I did want to throttle him . I actually this is a funny story I was once circulated around the Met Police as wanted . What I don't know what I should tell this story , so wanted . Yeah , you've heard me .

I was wanted by the Metropolitan Police , in fact , that's why I'm in .

Mallory

America .

Twinnie

Soundbite . I'm on the run , so what happened have you seen Twinnie ?

Lauren

Yeah , have you seen her ? One million dollars .

Twinnie

I was on tour with Carter Faith and Robin Ottolini and he'd emailed me to say it was over on tour and wasn't answering any of my calls . Nothing like called . My sister told me it was told her it was over and I was like what is ? What is going on ? And two months before I'd just been dropped by my label , so it felt like everything had just like gone .

I was like what ? So Robin of course sensible was like don't go to the house . Carter was like go to the house . So obviously I went to the house and not on his door . He lived in like flats . They're the communal hallway and the neighbors let me in . And I'm like listening at the door . I'm like he's obviously fucking cheating on me .

He's cheating on me , I'm listening , I'm convincing myself after a few drinks . I'm like there's someone in there . Anyway , he's not answering . I see the window , the landing window , and I'm like , oh , that's a good idea .

I'll just crawl out the window onto the roof with a 70 foot drop and I will grab a drain pipe and hold my phone , put the flashlight on and shine it through his bedroom window to see if he's with another girl Psycho .

Lauren

Yeah , psycho .

Twinnie

Absolutely Psycho mode was fully activated .

Mallory

What is your star sign , tony ? I have to ask . It's a tourist , oh , my gosh , you know you're rising or you're moving , I'm a . Scorpio rising , me too , I'm a tourist . Scorpio rising too .

Twinnie

I don't give a fuck . If you hurt me or someone I love , I'm coming after you . I don't give a shit who anybody is . That is a psycho button .

Mallory

I'm like .

Twinnie

I fight for people that I love though You're doing that again . So yeah , and then the next day , so apparently the police were called . I didn't know this .

And then my flatmate two weeks later was like hey , babe , there's like four non-uniform police that have literally banged down the door and it is telling our next door neighbor yes , 20s on the run , she's wanted by the Metropolitan Police . Oh my God , never been in trouble with a place in my entire life . Did you write a song about that ?

Yeah , it's called , just Like .

Mallory

Oh , oh , that's just like her , just Like . Oh , no , one time I wanted to you met Johnny Cash , that shit .

Twinnie

Yeah , I was like yeah , I wanted . It was a time in my life that I'm not very proud of , but I often say like everything happens for a reason . So I know a lot of people like they post something and it doesn't go viral , or like nobody likes your Instagram posts , whatever .

Like , what he did to me wasn't cool , but I was like people can only meet you at the capacity that they have . Like .

I don't think he could do it to my face and I think that just comes with a little bit of wisdom and getting older , reflection and closure and looking back on it , like I wrote that song in my bedroom and I was both suddenly heartbroken and like three weeks ago I got to play it at the opera , Like it made my opera debut .

So I feel like he set me free in many ways . So I will never question like the timing of anything . Because I'm like , if you have got a goal and you have got a dream and you want to go after it , like if you work hard , I don't see there's any reason why you can't achieve that .

You just got to surround yourself with people that like lift you and energize you , not drain you . And I think , like I mean we're surrounded with music industry people that sometimes didn't quite make their dream they wanted to be an artist but they changed or whatever and I just think like the way to kill a dream is to tell it to a small mind .

So it's so important , like all my friends that I'm surrounded by , they are never surprised when I'm like so I'm thinking I'm going to build a rocket ship and go to the moon , and they're like do it ? How can I help ? They're like of course you are , what do you need ? You know like it could be that crazy , but I want to be like so delusional .

You've got like one life , we're here for a minute of time , that's it , and you've just got to soak up every little bit of it and even failure . It's like success turned inside out . So I don't know . I just think like we're all . We've all got our own little mess that we're trying to clear up and like grow in .

Sometimes people focus on other people's mess where , like I honestly feel like the more healing and more you get to know yourself , the better you are as a human out in the world . And you one of my favorite quotes . I love this quote so much . It's like if you shine your own light , it gives others permission to shine their own .

And I think , like you have to , I would rather be in a room full of two people that completely know me and love me for who I am , rather than be in a room of like 20 people that think they know me .

Lauren

Like .

Twinnie

I don't know . I think that's so important when it comes to like life and art .

Mallory

I don't know , absolutely , I agree . Well , speaking of the way I loved you , you're going to play it for us on the podcast today . Yes , I am . Can you tell us a bit about writing or reporting that song ?

Twinnie

I would say , of all the songs on the Blue Hour after Dark EP , this was probably the most emotional song , I think like I mean , if you know me then you probably could tell like , and bits where I'm actually quite choked up . I was crying when I was like recording it and my best friend Barnes was like this is really good , but are you okay ?

And I was like yep , yep . And I remember sending him the voice note because if you listen to it it's got Adam's voice , my ex's voice , on it and that chokes me up .

I think that song , even now when I listen to it or I play it live , even though I am not I don't know whether I'll ever see him again it's like just a reminder of like there's so much beauty in the past as well and so many lessons that I learned about myself . So it's kind of like a big celebration but also like a saying goodbye .

I remember because we recorded most of these in my bedroom in London . I did I don't have like a huge budget , I was just like we're doing it , let's just do it , me and you and I remember doing the vocal and we were on like the last take . I still get emotional thinking about it and it's the last line , it's like I still love you .

And after I sang that , he was like I think we got it and I just burst into tears . I was like , oh , and I think it was just like a very much like okay , this is me moving on with my life and this is my goodbye to you , no matter where you are in the world , like I just wish you the best .

Mallory

So that's Arctic . Isn't that like the most magical feeling you feel , that release yeah , I think as an artist that's one of the most prolific experiences you can have is when you write that lyric or sing that lyric that you really let it go .

Twinnie

Yeah , yeah , and it hits me different in different ways now , but like that song kind of blew up on TikTok and there was so many people that messaged me saying like this reminds me of , like , my husband who was all that has passed , and I think like it just encapsulates that feeling of like there's grief is just love with nowhere to go .

And I was just like I this was like kind of my message to say to him like no , I'm not fucking perfect , but I didn't deserve , I deserved the last goodbye .

But if this is my goodbye to you and I hope that you remember me fondly and it was kind of just like there were some good bits as well and I hope you remember that and this is my at least I get to tell it to the world Obviously probably wouldn't be impressed with just like oh , but you know many shades of process .

Mallory

She would think it's gonna be true . At the same time , Of course they can .

Twinnie

But yeah , everyone like is , they're like that song and that melody . I think I will do something else with that song . I think it's just like because even the chorus is like very low . I wanted it to be kind of like intimate .

It's not me like full on belting , but when you said like oh , I feel like Lucy Silver's , like Adele , could sing it , I was like it's a really big compliment , like I just I love that song so much , so in my bedroom . And then , yeah , it went out into the world so I'm about to sing it now .

Mallory

I'm so excited to hear it Well , listeners , live on the liner notes podcast . Here is 20 with the way I loved you .

Lauren

You live there in my memory and I visit from time to time . We were never built to last Doesn't mean it wasn't real . So much beauty in the past . Yes , that's why I still feel . I still feel the way I loved you , the way I looked into your eyes , felt all the stars flying . How the mighty do fall , the way you took it all .

Now I gotta trust myself to love somebody new the way I loved you , the way I loved you . You're so nice . They are old friends . No one knows part in years past . It will be like that till the end . Right now I'm creeping the life I once knew Trials and tribulations . Maybe next life we'll see it through .

We'll live in stars for now , but that light still shines on . Like you and me , I'll never be gone the way I loved you , the way I needed you , the way I looked into your eyes Felt all the stars . The way you cried . The mighty do fall , the way you took it all .

Now I gotta trust myself to love somebody new the way I loved you , the way I loved you . We'll live in stars for now , but that light still shines on . Like you and me , I'll never be gone the way I loved you the way I needed you , the way I looked into your eyes Felt all the stars , the way you cried , the way you took it all .

Now I gotta trust myself to love somebody new the way I loved you , the way I loved you .

Mallory

The way I loved you , the way I loved you .

Twinnie

The way I loved you , the way I loved you . The way I loved you the way I loved you .

Mallory

The way I loved you .

Twinnie

The way I loved you , the way I loved you , the way I loved you , the way I loved you , the way I loved you , the way I loved you , the way I loved you , the way I loved you , the way I loved you , the way I loved you , the way I loved you , the way I loved you , the way I loved you the way I loved you the way I loved you .

The whole concept written from the perspective of like okay , you broke my heart , I need to deal with it , I need to put my big girl pants on and just like there's eight billion people in the world , why am I crying over you ? It's fine , whatever you can have like many different people that are right for you .

So I'm like just make sure you're leaving , cause you're never coming back . So even though and I knew once I wrote the way I loved you , I was like I am never going back to that . I'd made up my mind about going to Nashville

Connecting Energy and Quantum Entanglement

. I was like I'm never coming back so cool and Lonely Long was kind of like to empower that . Like I won't be Lonely Long . Like kind of just for anybody that's going through it . Like we're all beautiful , we're all smart , we all deserve to be happy . Like if you're ever in a situation where somebody is like making you feel shit , you don't deserve that .

Like you know , we're not all our best selves all the time .

But I think like to me , I was like I just want to nap them for anybody that's like been broken up with and just been like okay , all right , I'm moving on and it's gotta be great and you're gonna have to watch me do it and you'll come back , which is funny because you know , when we had that full moon , like there was a couple of them , I swear I'm

like must've like closed out a karma cycle or something , because every ex that I have ever oh yeah , they're reaching out ever had , even from like 20 years ago . They were in my DMs . Oh , the full moon . They were in my DMs .

Mallory

It feels so good like you're like I don't , I don't know why , like I shouldn't care about this , but it's like when they say something , you're like yeah , that feels really good that you just like so you realize your mistake didn't you ? Yeah , right Cool .

Twinnie

You figured it out . Finally , but honestly speaking , about Sonny . That's just like rum and round you studio at the minute , I think like dogs , are he ? I've got a song called Sonny that's probably gonna end up on this next EP , but I don't think there's anything like dogs energy or kids energy , because they just fill you up .

I remember like when I was going through it , I mean I don't know where I would've been without him , to be honest , to just like you totally understand that . Yeah , they're just the best . Dogs are the best , doggies are the best they are . And he's just into something at the minute .

Mallory

I don't know what , probably the remnants of . I get from orders from Factor . I don't know if you're familiar with them , but it's like healthy meals that you can have delivered cause I just keep them in a little fridge here .

Twinnie

It's probably whatever I ate for lunch , it's probably starving . He's like . He's like listen , what is that ?

Mallory

Yeah , buddy .

Twinnie

I love that sign . You are what you manifest , it's true .

Mallory

Oh yeah .

Twinnie

I think the thoughts just going off topic for anybody that's interested . But I was . I went down the rabbit hole the other night on Quantum Entanglement .

Mallory

Oh , oh .

Twinnie

Oh .

Mallory

That's what . I'm saying we could go on , that could be a whole other part . Yes , Quantum .

Twinnie

Entanglement . I was like , oh my God , this blew my mind . It blew my mind . If you don't know what Quantum Entanglement is , it's when two atoms split and they can be like anywhere in the galaxy , wherever , doesn't matter how far away they are apart , and I could swim , this one and the other one would feel it , and it happens by the speed of light .

That's why they say , when you move on from someone , they reach out because they felt it , they felt the shift . They felt the shift and I love that .

Mallory

I love that . If you believe in physics or inertia or any of that , I do think that that's the whole thing and it is . Maybe there needs to be a new segment with all of our female guests . That's like the witchy woo segment where we talk about these kinds of things .

Twinnie

It's not even like witchy though it's like they've proven it with science , and I just think what is amazing about that , for me in particular , is we are all connected . The biggest misconception is that we're not all connected . We are absolutely all connected . Your vibe attracts your tribe , so you've got to surround yourself with .

That's why they say you have to match the energy and the frequency of your dreams . You've got to be so delusional that you're already there . That's what I do anyway . It seems to be working . And then you make it a reality . Yeah , and there's where you are what you manifest , yep .

Mallory

Well , listeners , once again live on the Liner Notes podcast . Here is 20 with Lonely Long .

Lauren

Then's the Lovers' Tour in 2019 . And the Lovers' Tour will give you ideas . There's no coming back when it's all over , cause I'll be going out tomorrow night and I'll put my red dress on . No more heart won't break and my tears won't cry , and I won't be lonely , lonely , no , I won't be lonely . No , I won't be lonely . No , I won't be lonely .

No , I won't be lonely , lonely , no , I won't be lonely . No , I won't be lonely . No , I won't be lonely . No , I won't be lonely , lonely , I'll be dancing underneath your light , flirting with my freedom . Won't even need a dream to forget you , cleaving what you're feeling , cause I'll be going out tomorrow night and I'll put my red dress on .

No , I won't be lonely , lonely .

It's the calmest strength I had , not to fall apart , trying hard to mend the pieces of my broken heart . Well , you've felt life dropping in and just expect me to agree . Well , I'm sleeping on my loving horse and one who's loving me . Oh , I'm going out tomorrow night and I'll put my red dress on .

No more heart won't break and my tears won't cry , and I won't be lonely , lonely , no , I won't be lonely . No , I won't be lonely . No , I won't be lonely . No , I won't be lonely . No , I won't be lonely . No , I won't be lonely . Don't walk in lonely . Walk in lonely , lonely .

Mallory

That song's a banger as well . Thank you so much . Very , very , very cool . I like that one a lot . I love the kind of like atmospheric , whistly Western writing Not often to the sunset , but more like often to the sunrise , but it has .

Twinnie

I just wanted it to be like in a , like a movie of like me . If I was going to play myself in a movie , I'd be like , oh , like , dancing in like the desert or something like that , and she's like a wild gypsy . I was like she , she didn't care . That was like my alter ego . I was like trying to be like I'm not heartbroken right now , I'm just like .

Mallory

I'm like pretending that .

Twinnie

I love how my dogs obsess with him . He's just so quiet .

Mallory

He is such a good boy , you're such a good boy .

Lauren

Yes , oh , I love you . Can I hold you oh ?

Mallory

let me pick you up . Oh , this is the best right here , doggy hugs . Oh , thank you , oh , christian .

Twinnie

Stop being a pimp , Sonny are you a flirt ? No , I will not make out with you . He is definitely a pimp , you know a little bit of a flirt we were on like 12th South the other day and there was all these girls that were dressed up in cowboy stuff . I went in and they were like oh my God , yeah , he's so cute , what's his name ?

And I was like oh , you've done it . And he's going over to one girl and then the other . I was like I can imagine you if you were human , like what a total , like jock you would be . You'd be a player , I'd be getting calls off people's mothers .

Mallory

Oh the poor , poor cat bear . I can't . He's so cute . Oh hello , hello , new friend , are you wanting to get down now ? You're so cute , I can't even handle it . He loves you .

Twinnie

He does .

Mallory

Are you so great son ? Hello , yes , he's getting fresh . Are you a fresh boy ? Yeah , I do your mom's like what's going on . Good boy , yeah , you can smell the guitar . That's fine , cool . Well , we should also talk about another EP that you've released that kind of encapsulates the color blue . Yes , blue Christmas EP .

Twinnie

I know , tell us a bit about that project . Well , I'd already recorded Elf Yourself last year that Lucy Silver's and John Osborne wrote . I was like this will be amazing , like it was so me , like I just wanted to like tap dance in it , and my niece has started that video .

But I didn't have a distribution company or anything , I just put it out myself and I was like I want to like re-release this somehow . So I was like , ok , well , I'm just going to put music out . Yeah , do another EP .

And I don't really like , see , I actually do for my artist friends , but there seems to be like a lot of covers that come out every year and I was like I really want to do some fun . So , like Secret Santa , I wrote with my friend , Chris Rufetto , who's like producing this next half , the next half of Blue Owl Barnes , and it was just so fun .

I was like this is awesome . I love stuff like this . Like music should be fun .

Christmas Music, Friendships, and Hollywood Dreams

I Hate Christmas was written with have you seen Love Actually .

Mallory

Yes .

Twinnie

So I'm really good friends with a guy called Jack Manus who produced some of my first album , my debut album and his wife is called Marti McCutcheon and she was actually in the movie Love Actually , so she was like the company in it that dites oh , you can't .

Mallory

Oh , yes , shit yeah .

Twinnie

And she is amazing . She's such the book . But I love them too so much . And we wrote this song ages ago when I was working with John Green and I was like you know what , we should revisit this . This is such a cool tune . So Jack spruced it up and I did a cover and then I also did In Christmas Without you .

That I did ages ago , so it was just a collection of songs that was like I may as well keep this stuff going . Absolutely , you know well , let's go , just keep putting music out . So yeah , that kind of was like I was like for anybody that's having a blue Christmas , let's go . And it's kind of like nostalgic some of the songs .

Mallory

But yeah , I feel like the production is very it's like perfectly , it's like pop , but nostalgic , in like the Christmas traditional sense . And I feel like it's all very like commercial , friendly , like , as far as like I could hear a lot of them in movies and Christmas .

Twinnie

I see that for you . She can hear them in movies .

Mallory

March is the time to submit .

Twinnie

I know , like next March she'll be like sinking that stuff out .

Mallory

I feel like you know what and I feel like because of the writer strike and the and SAG strike , I feel like there was a lot of stuff put on hold that's going to come out next year , for Christmas stuff yeah . Like I bet you , netflix will have a ton of Christmas movies , and so there's going to be a lot of stuff content for , hopefully .

Twinnie

I'm trying to sell a Christmas film at the minute . Oh my gosh , yes , that's , that's what originally . Why I wrote with those guys is because I wrote a script , I wrote a screenplay , I write screenplay . That's awesome . I wrote a screenplay and I did all the music with people like Alan Menken , who Anna Rose , lucy Silvers , mary Steenberg and I got .

I was just like I've got this idea and I need songs for it , so can you write with me ? You say Alan Menken , yeah , what ? Yes , you wrote with Alan Menken . I did what . I wrote a song called Elf on the Shell for this Christmas movie and I kind of want it to be like the greatest showman meets La La Land .

Mallory

I love it .

Twinnie

And it was basically all because , like , I want to be in like Hollywood movie , basically .

Lauren

Right , yeah , of course .

Twinnie

Sing , dance and act showcase all my skills . I feel , like once I do that , like I can just retire .

Mallory

I'm like I've done everything that I wanted to do . Play at the off-brain , like you know what else is there .

Twinnie

Check it off the bucket list . But , yeah , that's how that song came about . And then we ended up writing I Hate Christmas , but yeah , it's just .

I have got so many friends in this town and across the pond that I just many of their journeys haven't gone the way that they thought it was going to go , but it's completely turned out a hell of a lot better than they could ever imagine , and it's funny .

I just like this town is amazing for like meeting new people and I know what it feels like to be like the new person in town and I would never , ever write anybody off . Like I like writing with new people I don't mind if you don't have a hit . Like I love that energy of like they remind me of like why I'm still in this industry .

Because , you can write with , like the more successful that you get . I think it's like it's strategy and it's like , well , we've got to get another one . And it's money , and it's like people have got families . But I feel like the innocence and the naivety of like Just trying to write Right , just trying to write a good song .

I just like trying to write a good song and like , honestly , that's all we're trying to do . We're just trying to look for that one song to change your life . But that energy , like I really think it's important to be around , like dogs , children . You've got to live life in order to experience what you're going to write about , absolutely .

Mallory

True . And we were just saying that .

Twinnie

Yeah , but yeah , this town definitely will . It can kick your ass , but it can also like be one of the . I mean , it's one of the best towns I've ever been in . So many people just on a like human level of like trying to move here . Get a credit score yeah , get a car , like , I think , lucy and John , let me that car .

Mallory

That's not even something you think about .

Twinnie

Four months , you know like , just to put me on my feet , like they were awesome . Yeah , One thing I am like really looking in which I don't know how I deserve it , but I've got really good friends . They are awesome . I love them stuff .

Mallory

Everybody deserves good friends .

Twinnie

I would do anything for my friends . I'm the person that people call at four o'clock in the morning to like pick you up at the airport .

Mallory

Got it , got it . So if I need to hide a body , I'm gonna call you no , just kidding . Well , with the holiday spirit in mind , listeners , you are very lucky because you've gotten multiple songs on this episode already , but here is a third from 20 live on the liner notes podcast .

Lauren

Here is Secret Santa , secret Santa , whoo wrapped around your finger like some tinsome on a tree tears the season to be jolly . Please bring some joy to me . I know you and that red suit I still gotta have the world to see , but this thing is in Tennessee . I can keep a secret , say no one needs to know .

I can bring the stockings and I'll walk to hang on this door . Are you thinking what I'm thinking ? Do you feel the way I do ? If you can keep a secret , say Baby , I can keep on to love , keep on to , yeah , I can keep on to Shhh .

Mallory

My god , that song is so cute , it's so cute . I can't even handle it . Also , I need to hear this song with Alan Mankin . I know . I know you didn't know you were in the room with two other theater girls right , yes , we didn't really , we went to school for it . We didn't pursue it , but we went to school for theater .

Twinnie

It was great working with him .

Mallory

Oh my gosh , were you nervous ?

Twinnie

Yes , like writing with him I mean I've screen recorded the whole thing . I mean , obviously it's like I bring my friends with me , I have my friends in it and do that shit , Because that's fun . Totally I want to be at the top with my friends .

That's why the Opry was so special Because I just looked across and I was like All those people that genuinely believe me , they're here on the most important night of my life . Yeah let's talk about that .

Mallory

Opry debut . Yes , let's talk about that .

Twinnie

So the Opry debut Randomly . So I know Jamie Johnson's music . I did not know who Jamie Johnson was when I first met him . He's got this big , massive beard like . So I was at Rainer Robert's release party . I come in , I've got like I had a motorbike accident about 14 years ago , so my leg sometimes like plays up . I've got a metal rod .

So I come in , I'm talking to my friend , abigail Rainer comes up and there's Jamie Johnson here . So we're all talking all the time they're fucking like like it's killing me . He's like , oh , I've got a bad neck as well . Anyway , we're talking and he's like Somebody comes up and they say something to him and I'm like I'm like are you a really big deal ?

Like should I know who you are ? You're famous , you're famous , aren't you ? I was like sorry . I was like I've been an idiot , probably , but like I just . But also I know I'm like , I'm like I'm sorry . He's like no , it's fine . I was like , okay , anyway , we were just get talking about like life and stuff , and he's such easy , he's a fucking legend .

And this guy just Just very unassuming , just legend . Yeah , like . So we're talking and he's like so what do you do ? I was like I'm a dentist . He's like are you really ? I was like , no , I'm fucking Sam . I bet you've heard that before in Nashville .

So I'm like making him laugh and we're having like some good crack and he's like what you , what you doing ? I was like , well , I'm just told him my story . And I was like , honestly , I'm just trying to like figure my life out at the minute . I don't like no , obviously I'd love to play the opry and stuff , but we'll , we'll see .

I don't know if that's ever gonna happen . I would like it to happen before my grandma and my granddad pass , but like I will to grandma and granddad , I was like 88 and 87 . I like I'd love to fly them over , but why are they ? He's like well , send me your music . No , I'm Okay .

Inspiring Music Industry Breakthrough

And and then I said in my music and he was like did you text me back like a day later ? Because I didn't think anything of it . I was like this , this is a pydrate and it's not gonna happen . People are in this Time for years and that never happens for them . And also I was with a major record label and it never happened .

So I didn't have any like expectation that it would . And he texts me back and he's like did you write all these yourself ? And I was like , yeah , and Bad these two or whatever . Like he's like this is , this is great . He was like how does the opry sound early November ? And when I tell you like , I was like and you remained conscious because I wouldn't .

I was like , well , he texts me that . And Then I rang him . I was like , are you fucking being serious ? He went yeah , I went . He was like let's get them grandparents over . And I just burst out crying oh my god , what a real one . And I was like , oh my god , jamie , that's amazing .

And I think because , like I still get emotional thinking about it now . But I think like I'm emotional here at hearing it because like it's , it's different , like music industry sucks for everyone at times . But I got dropped .

And then I got dropped by the person that I loved and I just felt like I'd been fighting all year to like Be seen or like to be valued by someone . And the fact that this legend came in and he like Loved it firstly , loved my music and then secondly , was just like , yeah , it's sorted .

I was just like , oh , I don't know what , say I can never hear you . And he was just like . It was honestly like the best night and everybody that was there I sang , the way I loved you and I'd realized like how far I'd come and like Just the opera make it so special for you when they record you and it's just like Some it , some of that .

I just thought , felt like they asked me how I felt and I was like I just feel seen , I feel like I'm like worthy of being here and that was like really like , really cool because you work so hard and you get so many Nose and you just feel like what's the fucking point ?

Yeah , like I'm broke , I'm missing my family , I'm like trying not to like phone home and be like I'm a failure , like not that you're a failure , but like it seems a lot of the time you do these gigs you think no one's fucking listening and then that guy just shows up out of nowhere and it just felt like God's plan and I was just like .

He thinks I'm good .

Lauren

Yeah , another artist respects what I do .

Twinnie

Doesn't matter what all these for him , like a and r's that really don't know shit about anything , like you've got , like you know no con and James Oliver , and like it's like a connection that people feel .

I think honestly that's why I do music , because I just want to connect with as many people as possible and be of service to people , because I know what it's like to feel alone or I know what it's like to feel excluded and I don't want people feeling like that .

So I feel like I try and do that my music and that's my gift , or like my piece towards the world . But sorry , I don't know why I cry , but it just like it really meant so much that .

And I remember , like Dan at the opera , they give you like a lovely little gift and he was like you know , you might not have a team , he said , but you definitely have a team in this town of like artists and writers Believe in you .

And I see that like , and I get emotional because I'm like , after time , you can't pay for shit , you can't pay for beer , you can't do any of this , but it's like you , those people which , let's be honest , like none of this fucking industry would exist without , like us creatives .

It's those creatives that keep you going and that you respect and that you love , and that I want to be there with them at the top , and it's because they believe they keep me in their room , they allow me to keep making music and I'm like , I'm not gonna do that .

They allow me to keep making music and they do me favors or like and that's what I love about this town like those creatives still believe in talent and Just want to work with you , because they believe , despite what the music industry says or what you numbers say they believe and I think like that's a good reminder of that .

Mallory

It's amazing . Sorry , I like I get really much no no , this is a safe place to get emotional . Yeah , yeah .

Twinnie

But yeah , jamie Johnson that's amazing Real fucking deal real Wow and I know , like that to me was so special , I was like I'm gonna pay that forward .

Mallory

Yeah , you are ever in a position you do that even thinking about doing that for somebody else , I guess we excited .

Twinnie

I'm like fucking want to do that for people , even people that come into this town , like showing them to like American Legion or like connecting them with people , because I'm like you never know where that connection . They could hit it off and write the most amazing fucking number one song and you would never know like .

We never know how we're like Affecting each other . I always think of myself as like a little stone that throws itself into like the lake and I can either decide to Make my ripples positive or negative and like that's how I'm like if I make them positive , then maybe I'll like affect that stone over there and it'll shift their like energy . I love that .

Mallory

Do you know I ?

Lauren

mean like I break it down .

Twinnie

Yeah , so yeah , yeah , Jim Johnson's an absolute fucking legend and man .

Grandparents, Travel, and Comedy

Mallory

I dream . So did you get your grandparents out ?

Twinnie

I did not , because my grandma was ill and it's funny story because they're old . My granddad was like They've traveled everywhere but America and I get that it's a lot . I was like I'll fly first class . No , I had the money's , fine .

Mallory

I was just like I'm not a great guy . Let me tell you this , and I'll figure it out later I was like , let me just like get you over here .

Twinnie

My granddad is so funny . He was like well , what if I die , wouldn't I go over ? That was like way to be positive . Well , what have I got ? Typical Yorkshire man who's like what if I die and they won't ? They won't ship me back . I was like you'll be fucking dead , you can float back in the ocean .

I know they didn't end up coming over , but they did watch it on first time . It was very late for them but they did watch it .

Mallory

Oh my gosh , that's so funny .

Twinnie

What if I ?

Lauren

die . I was like what if I die ?

Twinnie

I was like what fucking matter , I'll put you in the ocean . You can float back you can float back . That's what . That's what my family are like , though . They're like pure bunters . I love it . I love it .

Mallory

Well , on that note , thank you for sharing all of that magic with us .

Lauren

You've got to end it all . My granddad and his dad no , we're not ending it , we're not ending it .

Mallory

We're gonna take a short break , we're gonna come back and we're gonna have some fun doing some rapid crime . Let's get another tequila I don't know if Sunny needs to go out and pee , but let's , let's have a break and we'll come back and do some rapid fire . We'll be right back listeners , all right . A couple tarot card readings and some soul contracts later .

Tarot cards in tequila to tequila . We are back on the liner notes podcast with 20 and it is time for rapid fire . All right , 20, . I hope you're ready . I'm ready . What are two items on your artist bucket list ?

Twinnie

It's a play red rocks and two Headliner stadium show boom .

Mallory

If you could write or record with anyone Alive and who is no longer with us , who would they be ?

Twinnie

Oh , this is hard . Can I pick multiple or sure , go for it . This is rock and roll . There's no role . I would love to write Record with Elvis Presley , yes , and Ella Fitzgerald .

Lauren

Hmm .

Twinnie

And I would love to write with dolly pond and also , should I twin let's , let's go , girl , I bring it in .

Lauren

Let's have let's get that going .

Mallory

Yes , alrighty , are you a morning person or a night owl ?

Twinnie

night , oh , I'm only a morning person when I've been up for like 4 am and I'm like there's no point going to sleep , I'll just stay up .

Mallory

Name one , for lack of a better term , guilty pleasure or nerdy indulgence .

Twinnie

Oh , uh Uh . Pork scratch ins pork scratches .

Mallory

Is it like ? Is like right , like pork rice ? Yes , pork scratch .

Twinnie

I had them the other day with my friend uh Brady , and I was like the . This reminds me of when my grandma used to take me To the working men's club , which is like you're like maybe american legion , and they all used to do bingo and they used to like sell them behind the bar . It's very nostalgic for me .

Mallory

I love it . I love that . What is the worst venue you've ever played at or the worst show you've ever played ? You don't have to name names if you don't want to , but tell us what happened and where it was like the town .

Twinnie

I think it was like it was in london . It was when I was just first starting out and like this promote was like , yeah , there's gonna be loads of people there . It's a night , it's called 93 East or something I can't remember . I blocked out my memory . There was literally three people there which we still did the same show .

And what was ironic about that show is there was a guy called Balin Leonard who is now like a massive like country DJ in the uk and he's got his own like Festival called the long road . That he was my first ever interview .

He came and interviewed me before the show at dive bar and then , like it was amazing and like every time , like some great happens , I just like message balin . I was like , do you remember ?

Mallory

the days where .

Twinnie

He didn't have anything going on then either , and neither did I , and I just think that's really cool how we met . So I literally no one there , and I just goes to show you just always gotta do you never know .

Mallory

Yeah , right , show , yep . So true .

Killers, Fears, Seasons

What seemingly innocent habit or human behavior might make you think someone is a serial killer . Uh , they're not liking dogs yeah 100% Yep Like easiest answer ever yeah if you don't like dogs , I'm like you're definitely a serial killer . Yeah , 100% yeah . How do you not ?

Twinnie

like dogs , like I mean , I was in general someone like was bit by a dog or something Like if they have a traumatic traumatic , like childhood experience .

Mallory

That's one thing , if they just don't like animals in general , or they don't like kids , don't like them .

Twinnie

Yes , yeah , actually that explains a lot if animals don't like them . Sunny didn't like my ex-boyfriend son .

Lauren

There you go .

Mallory

All right . Do you have a random quote-unquote irrational Fear , phobia or hatred , like , for example , I'm definitely afraid of clowns ?

Twinnie

I am afraid of clowns because I watched it when I was young same .

Mallory

It's not okay .

Twinnie

No , it's not okay , it scared me , but I have a really irrational fear that , um , actually I don't want to say it . You guess it comes true . I'll say it off there .

Mallory

but um , yeah , probably clowns , and oh , this is hard , irrational fear , fear , phobia or hatred , like just something that you really just don't like , but there's like malice . I have a phobia of being sick .

Twinnie

I hate that . Yeah , I have a real bad phobia of being sick , to the point where I I will never get blackout . I will never get blackout drunk or like I just it's the last thing I ever want to do , even when I'm ill . I'm like I'm like trying to swallow it down . Mom's like just be sick . I'm like I got , I got . I just don't want to be sick .

So , yeah , probably being sick .

Mallory

That's fair , totally fair what ? Is your favorite season .

Twinnie

Season . Oh , you know I love summer . I love summer , especially in London , because everybody is out at the pubs and they're just drinking outside and everyone's a little bit more happier and they're just like it's summer . Let's like party and and yeah , just anytime when the sun is out . I do . Is that human ?

Mallory

in .

Twinnie

London . No , not really . I do love fall Because , like , just purely because of the fashion .

Mallory

Yeah , oh , I know that's like the best fashion .

Twinnie

Yeah , best fashion ever . Um , but I really do love summer .

Mallory

Yeah , we also realize that that question is geographical . For it depends on where you live .

Twinnie

Yeah , oh yeah , for sure .

Mallory

Yeah , yeah , like summer here I want to go away .

Lauren

It's terrible . It's so terrible . I don't like it . I can do it for like a week .

Mallory

But if I'm by the ocean it's great . I didn't actually find you all summer .

Twinnie

That bad , to be honest , but maybe this summer was not that bad . Maybe it's because I'm from England , for yourself , I'm like , oh my gosh , we're getting . So that's amazing , you know . Yeah , I mean , I also like I .

Mallory

She grew up in Utah , which is very dry . It's also amplified when you don't have air conditioning in your car .

Twinnie

Oh , that's true , I might not have air conditioning this summer .

Mallory

It didn't um , but also like I grew up when it was pretty humid but we had the ocean , which was nice .

Lauren

Yeah , I'm a brat .

Mallory

I'm from the second , driest state , the only state in the union , that's drier than in the winter , like you're like wake up and your lips are like Stuck together and bleeding because it's so dry and your nose hurts because it's so dry .

Twinnie

It is really like there .

Mallory

But that's where I grew up .

Twinnie

Yeah , so that's why actually I think the london seasons are pretty like . The uk seasons are pretty cool . I mean it doesn't like it's weird like the seasons , but like this summer is we'll have a few good days , we'll have a few good weeks , since like everyone's happy and sounds like gloomy .

But I do like when I Kind of lived in LA for a little bit I was like I Fucking hate the fact that the sun shines . I'm like , oh , that's right . Give me some negativity . I know somebody's like just be grumpy , give me some rain .

Lauren

I get it like Whenever there's a thunderstorm in LA for a long time , and they're with like rain in LA .

Mallory

I would be so happy I'd be so excited , I know , and moving here when there were thunderstorms again , I was like yeah , Like real thunderstorms .

Twinnie

There's seasons and thunderstorms , yeah .

Mallory

Yeah , I know it's yeah .

Lauren

LA , it's like you you .

Mallory

You should appreciate the sunshine , but at the same time it's like monotonous . Yeah , Phil , I don't know what makes everybody go a little bit mental like I love june because it's june gloom , it's like in the mornings , it's gloomy , yeah , and I'm like , oh , honestly . We all , just as musicians , need to be continual changes .

I just want to move on , but everywhere I go like we were , yeah , yeah , I just like to . Whenever we're on tour , I'm like I could live here . I could live here . I just want to be in all the places all the time . Okay , so summer , okay , name three indie artists or bands that everyone should be listening to .

Twinnie

Bono black , max boil and I'm trying to like Mention people that like I mean , I always listen to my mate Lucy silvers yeah , she's amazing . She is amazing and not everybody knows better . No , lucy silvers , she's fucking incredible .

Mallory

Lucy's one of those artists that you remember where you were the first time you heard a Lucy silvers song . I saw her hotel cafe , I think just , and I'm gonna recall me saying that yeah and you're gonna send her . It's so true , I was in Laura Evans kitchen and I in LA at huh and I was going through my soul contract situation that is not good .

And and she played me letters to ghosts and I heard that second verse where she talks about he's gonna find me wherever I run and I cried like a baby and I remember that very vividly . I remember it like we went . She was playing a show at Hotel cafe .

We went right after that , right after that and I was like she's like so mini and tiny , she was like wearing her like that villain song with Dave Barnes and she , just like I , was like oh my god .

Twinnie

She is so cool , like she's just , she's just awesome rock she's one of those people that just doesn't know how fucking amazing she is .

Mallory

Yeah , yeah , that's all that she wrote with with Rustin Kelly that .

Lauren

Just for the record .

Mallory

Yeah , she's , I love both of their versions , but and . I love , I love him . He's like awesome . But her version of that song is so good .

Twinnie

Oh my gosh , she's just like the best human and the best artist . Yeah , so good . I love that it's just now .

Mallory

This is just a Lucy Silvas stand-up .

Twinnie

Yeah .

Mallory

What is your favorite book ?

Twinnie

oh , how to heal your own life by Louise here .

Mallory

I love Louise , hey , I .

Twinnie

Feel that . That brings me back down to like know what's like to myself . I'm like , okay , yeah , it's like a book about , just like it talks about how every disease is caused from a negative emotion , whether it's subconscious or genetic , generational trauma , and it just just it makes you think about life a little bit differently .

It's the norm and I kind of like that . But my job like a science geek and spiritual geek so I love that Good answer yeah , do you have a comfort food of choice ? Yeah , any carbs . I'm such a carb girl , I just love all the carbs . Cabs made me happy .

Mallory

Did you do it there ? Did you do like an American Thanksgiving ?

Twinnie

I did . I went to my best friend Casey's Mothers , linda's , and she cooked up a storm . It was awesome , but I was just like so full . Yeah , like for like three days .

Mallory

Yeah , did you like try anything that you had never tried before ?

Twinnie

you , you guys have this like sweet potato .

Mallory

Caster like yeah .

Twinnie

Marshmallows and sugar . I'm like , oh my god , this is like dessert . It is me .

Mallory

It is literally the only time we ever have . It's like only Thanksgiving . Yeah , it's the only time of year .

Twinnie

Back home we don't really celebrate , right right of course . Yeah , it's like .

Mallory

Canada , in the US , I think yeah , but so like the only time of year we have , and there's like these YouTube channels when it's like they'll have like kids from Japan try American snacks and vice versa , or like English kids try American snacks listen , japanese candy and I saw one with like , where , like these like ?

like like English Boys tried American Thanksgiving but they gave them like stuff that I'm like why did you give them that like it was like Clearly the people who are doing like they research what American Thanksgiving was and then like what did they give them ? I don't know it was like , and so it was like a .

It was like a leftover sandwich instead of like a set of the actual meal . But I guess I was turkey . Like a turkey dinner is pretty like universal to like .

Twinnie

Well , take a dinner we normally have like chicken or beef or like . Oh , we have sundae in us . Yeah , yeah it's like vegetables and meat , right , and that's pretty traditional .

Mallory

My mom's . I'm wondering is there a British pub here ? This sounds terrible . My mom's third husband had a daughter in Sheffield so he learned how to make like Yorkshire pudding and be Wellington and like all these awesome things and he made Yorkshire . I have been in love with Yorkshire pudding since I was like I need to like .

There is a good British pop here .

Twinnie

Yeah , it's a wise and Irish . I actually need to speak to your mom like third husband . I can't even get one . She needs to give you some tips .

Mallory

She's . She's the best I love . She is the best she she can . She can give you some tips . Yeah , oh yeah , you're turning she's a babe to . She is a babe . No , it's totally a babe . Uh , okay , oh , sweet or savory .

Twinnie

Both sweet and then savory . I can eat .

Mallory

Yeah , I'm a both girl before savory yeah . Yeah , nice , even on a shark hooter board . I like a little bit of both , both always pretty much , but it's it's . Some people lean more one way than the other . Guys , you make me hungry I know I'm already to .

Twinnie

I'm okay , I did not eat dinner Tequila for dinner .

Mallory

In your mind . So I'm not speaking commercially , I'm speaking for you and your soul and what you feel , your heart , of hearts in your mind . Name a perfect album where you don't skip any songs .

Lauren

And .

Twinnie

This is like just like kind of nostalgia , though , for me and I think Billy Joel piano man .

Lauren

Mm-hmm .

Twinnie

Because it just it . It's like the soundtrack of my childhood yeah , probably what my like . Mom and dad was still together and my dad was like loving on that album and driving in the car and shit .

Mallory

Yeah yeah , awesome , love it . Simple . It is a vibe , mm-hmm , still a vibe , so good we . I randomly saw him at the Pantages . They had that , what's his . It's like a ballet .

Lauren

It was moving out . Moving out , it's a ball a and at goal .

Mallory

The inner mission it was like opening night , and so he was there and at intermission her brother who I , I met Mallory , because in theater school she , her brother and I were in class together and it's intermission and my brother Decides to go to the bathroom because he knew . But he saw Billy Joel get up . He's like he's going to bathroom .

I don't think , oh my god . So my brother goes to the bathroom , he waits outside the bathroom , billy Joel comes out with this security and and Shawn goes hey , mr Joel . And he turns around because I don't think a lot of people call this your Joel . And he goes I'm gonna take your job one day and he was like okay , okay .

Then he came back upstairs and told me that and I was like oh my god , he could have asked for a picture .

Twinnie

I know right the coolest part .

Mallory

Like I can't even with you . He's like excuse me , oh , just a wonderful human . He is just like he could get away with that . He he's like a very unique personality type that he could get away with saying something like that to Billy Joel . But the coolest part was that Billy Joel , just after the show , got up on stage and just like did a concert .

Yeah , he did like seven songs so Love that Hollywood moments . Yep , your turn . Who is a one-hit wonder you consider severely underrated ?

Twinnie

Oh , Fuck , I Don't think . I guess it could be a one-hit song .

Mallory

Once one hit wonder artist or song Daniel Benham failed . Oh yes , I Got shells . I don't think anybody else has said that ? Nope . Yeah yeah , I Love that answer , I love that song that you made massive .

Twinnie

I love his sister as well .

Lauren

Yeah .

Mallory

I .

Lauren

We saw her .

Mallory

She was like big I feel like because of yeah hills and and also just in general .

Lauren

Yeah , I mean , they're phenomenal writers and singers .

Mallory

I am so happy someone said that I Forgot about that song until just now . It's so good . Is she so good music ? Yeah , there are some people that walked away that I'm like , no , why you're so good .

I feel , like , based off of everything we've talked about tonight , as far as like major label like jadedness , it's understandable why some people just like we're like , fuck this him . And also Jimmy Neco . Yeah , oh , jimmy . Oh my god , so many people , and then people who like let , got out of their deals and owed like $500,000 .

Lauren

Oh my gosh , I can't .

Mallory

Stop . I love Daniel Quintessential , like you , so beautiful .

Twinnie

What was that Was ?

Mallory

that like 2000 , 2001 ?

Twinnie

Yeah , I was gonna say I feel like I was .

Mallory

Okay , we have one more question . No , you're good , I'm just kind of sad to ask it because Daniel Bendenfield on like All the things all the things . If you don't already follow Daniel and Natasha Bendingfield , go follow both of them . Listeners , all right , 20 . Who are your three biggest influences , musical or otherwise , and why ?

Twinnie

my three . You can pick more than three if you need to . Musical influences Okay , definitely Billy Joel . Just because of his songwriting and his like melodies , like the way he goes into bridges , like just .

Mallory

I was favorite Billy Joel song .

Twinnie

It is , she's got away .

Mallory

You just like , just want to be that girl , like the girl that you know , I know that it is .

Twinnie

I think every girl feels like that girl . Yeah , and I think he captured that , like Paul McCartney wants to talk about friends , colleges , college , and he was like you used to always try to tell the girl that you love her in a way that nobody else knows , that nobody else has heard before but what everybody else knows , what you mean . Yeah like smart .

It's just like that's all we're trying to do is tell people that we love them in a way , and Billy Joel for sure ,

Music Influence and Nostalgia

I think . Honestly this is like kind of like random , but I listen to it like a lot of rappers like growing up like two-part can biggie and I feel like they were my first kind of like the poets and lyricism like lyrics , like lyricism . Everybody's about to two tequila's and I can't speak properly and yeah , just like their kid .

And says , especially for me , because I'm like that's got a lot to do with dancing as well . But like , I'm very like skippy , sometimes not generally go against the ground , like , oh , it has to be . I'm like , no , it doesn't like . Look at this . And Queen dolly Shania , definitely I listened to that .

I listened to that album to death , like Like just all her songs I love , like the bee beavies in the background , use the genius and and also took a lot of inspiration for people like like Ella Fitzgerald and Chet Baker and like Julie Judy Garland , even like just that , they're delivery and though the work , the things that they were actually speaking about , like

some of them old-fashioned , kind of like what they used to make , what music used to be , and I tend to go back to that . I listen to a lot of old songs on Motown and like , just like For ideas , like harmonize over them or like create a melody or just put on the instrumental , and I'm like these grooves are still so good .

And Abba , I don't there's , there's so many I can't live . Yeah , but it down . There was one my mom loved , gilbert or Sullivan . I don't know whether you know that guy , but he he wrote alone again , naturally , I think like he was at the time of like Elton John , but never really .

He had a number one hit in America all over , but he he never really like . I don't know why he didn't like keep going . Maybe he did , but he didn't have the same successes , ellen . But to me hit some of his songs in the way that he lyrically wrote stuff was like he was my first ever concert when I was like six years old and I knew every lyric .

Mallory

That stays with you , because my mom was an full circle moment .

Twinnie

He actually asked me to join him on stage in Nashville .

Lauren

No way .

Mallory

But I wasn't .

Twinnie

I wasn't here . Oh , this is like I need to . I need to do this . I'm gonna do this like most people don't know who he is , but like I , just I . It's just very nostalgic to me , like the Barbican York the where I saw him , me and my mom . This woman actually yelled at me because I like sang all songs .

She was like I've come in here to see him , not to listen to you say , oh my god , I was only like sick , all about .

Mallory

yeah , there's a lot calm down , okay . I also feel like it's like there's an element of like . When you have done musical theater , think there's an element to like . I Performance that you just like inherently .

Twinnie

Take with , take with you Also . I think of that . Every song is a show yeah . So so I'm like the the BVs have to come in here . I'm like I'm gonna do this like dance me when I perform live , like I'm already got like the music video before a Brutton song .

So , I think like everything I've done is really like Enhance me helps with the performance part of it .

Mallory

Yeah , have you been to Sid Gold's sidebar ?

Lauren

That's something we can all go do .

Mallory

It's a piano karaoke bar folk and they do a musical Is and like sapphire and sage that oh no , okay , it's like between Trinity and heart on Gallatin .

Twinnie

Yeah , he's wasn't a group . Yes , yeah , I'm there . Oh , yeah , you know I'm gonna be like yes yeah .

Mallory

They have a music is I think it's musical theater . Seven to nine , but you really can do musical theater any time I they have a piano and it's very like welcoming yeah .

Twinnie

I do a new favorite place I'm .

Mallory

Super like support of each other going . It's wonderful .

Twinnie

Please , let's go .

Mallory

Yes .

Twinnie

Well , thank you so much .

Mallory

Yeah , this is the parking all day you are a delight and this has been magical and so much fun . So thanks for coming in on a weekday evening to drink tequila with us and talk about music and you know , nerd out about other things . Yes , it's been so much fun . And thanks for bringing sunny All the treats he's just like .

Twinnie

I'm tired y'all .

Mallory

He didn't even perk up , he's just so tired . All right , listeners will be right back . Well , that was a blast . It was so much fun and I love that she and I are both Scorpio oh not Scorpio . Taurus , Scorpio rising yeah that's awesome , I know and sunny is so cute , he's so well behaved . Sunny is the real one . He is adorable .

The MP MVP yeah , that's guests of guests , guests of guests , well . Well , the listeners will get to see him on 20s video of her performance video . So that's cool . Yeah , we took some photos . I mean he's adorable , so cute and so sweet . Yeah , that was . That was really fun .

Yeah , I can't believe you know we're at the end of the season , pretty much at this point .

Twinnie

It's wild .

Mallory

how ?

Lauren

a couple more interview episodes , yeah well just one , one more interview Yep you episode and it's wild how fast it's gone by .

Mallory

Yeah , 2023 went by in a bullet by feeling it really did was very quick , but I'm glad we got out on the road as much as we did and I'm excited for some of the Refinements we're gonna make just all over yeah , you know , over the next year . So yeah , podcast and band was oh yeah , what have you been ? Listening to .

So I mean , I've been a big Tyler Hilton fan since 2003 , or whenever he came out with his first single , we love time and I . He just came out with some new music which I'm super stoked about . It's called the parting . His song is called the parting . Oh , I haven't really really good , I can't wait . Um , yeah , I love him . He's so great .

He's just such a great songwriter and you got to open for him one time . I did randomly at Moe's in Utah .

Twinnie

I know it was so awesome yeah even Josiah .

Lauren

It was just a living , this other guy , deon Roy so random .

Mallory

I don't know , why they wanted like a four-person bill , but I was happy to be there and Josiah is like blowing up now .

Twinnie

Yeah , oh my gosh , he's so talented .

Mallory

I and the Bonneville's . Yeah , he's so good , such also another great , really . Yeah , I'm right here . We should get him on the podcast that would be awesome . Great , I'm uh , what are you listening to ? I've been listening to the soundtrack to the Hunger Games palette of songbirds and snakes .

Oh it is so good which was in , was Recorded here in house , yeah , I mean at RCA . Yeah , which is pretty cool , it is very cool and it honestly is so stinking good . Yeah , it is so incredibly . Rachel Zuggler's voice , like I mean , obviously knew she had a great voice from playing Maria and West Side . She does a lot of the soundtrack .

Right , yeah , she does . She's Incredible . Like the . The range this girl has with , like the tones and the different styles that she's able to do at such a young age , is Like it's otherworldly , like she's honestly so good and the songs are great . It's got cute Olivia Rodrigo song on there .

Twinnie

It's very girl right here .

Mallory

Feral's got Miley Tuttle , it's got cash . Who are the other ones ? I'd have to look it up , but they're . It's seriously stacked . It's so , so good and the score is great . And it just finished reading the book .

Twinnie

I want to read it and I want to go see it .

Mallory

I want to go see the movie so bad Like I'm really sad that you haven't seen it yet , or ? Read the book yet because I want to go see it . Like now , I'm still on the second fourth wing book and I'm Everybody's been like posting about it and so I haven't finished it . Because everyone's like , if you just finished this book , your mind's gonna be like yeah .

I want to read those too but I I want to go see the movie like yeah . I might just go see it and and you can read the I'm already like yeah , like you know enough about the Hunger Games universe that you yeah , I don't need to , but the book is really well done .

Yeah , it's and the soundtrack is great and I've heard nothing but great things from my teenagers that I teach Well I think all the . Hunger Games movies were really like as far as like .

Twinnie

Being they were really done really well .

Mallory

It wasn't like a super big fan of the casting . I love Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss but I wasn't super crazy about . I love Liam .

Twinnie

As Gail , I liked Liam and Josh's , and I wasn't really crazy about Josh's pita .

Mallory

That's mainly why I think my my issue was Josh's pita . I like I liked the rest of the casting . I think it was just Josh that I wasn't like super , super sold on , yeah . I think he just seemed like really young compared to Liam and Jennifer . I think they just see both .

Yeah , jennifer like was a young , she was young , but she I think has always come across Winslet in that like 19 or whatever she seems 25 . Yes , and we'll seem 25 till , she's like 45 .

Twinnie

Yeah for sure , yeah , absolutely yeah . That's the same thing with Liam too .

Mallory

She does really well , like with older male co-stars , I feel like because that's our Hunger Games tangent . Yeah , the day . Yeah , it's either Twilight or Hunger Games .
