We thought we'd give a longer description a try:

Saddle up for a heartfelt finale as we welcome the incredibly talented Stacey Kelleher, whose musical roots run as deep as her stories are rich with the twang of guitar strings and the tinkle of piano keys. We're closing out this season on a high note, reminiscing about Stacey's artistic odyssey from the cradle of her childhood piano to the bustling creative hub of Nashville, with Kacey Musgraves as her musical north star. Sitting back with our festive coffees, we unravel the tapestry of her journey through melodies and memories, revealing how she found her tribe amidst the silence of the pandemic and poured her soul into songs that mirror the heartbeat of every struggling artist.

As we peel back the curtain on the recording studio's mystique, Stacey shares the serendipity of happy accidents and the intimate charm of home studios that have shaped her latest tracks, "Over Committed" and "UFO." Imagine the transformation of an ordinary room into a cradle of creativity, where melodies are meticulously layered, and each happy accident is a brushstroke on the canvas of her career. The conversation takes an honest look at the music industry's shifting landscape, exploring the myth of record deals as the end-all and the reality of wearing multiple hats to forge a successful path.

But it's not all chords and choruses; we get real about the fears that haunt us in the quiet of the night and the comfort found in a bowl of spicy rigatoni. Join us as we laugh about the quirks of being artists in the limelight, from disappointing showcases to our irrational phobias, and celebrate the unconventional voices that are redefining the country music scene. We wrap this season with reflections on personal growth, the anticipation of residency at the Bowery Vault, and the shared dream of touching lives with our art—one listener at a time. Pull up a chair and let Stacey's journey inspire you, as we bid adieu to a season of unforgettable stories and the promise of more to come.

Mallory

Hi Lauren , Hi Mallory , how are you today ?

Lauren

I'm doing really well today . How ?

Mallory

are you ? I'm doing well as well . Good , we've got our last interview of the season which I can't believe . And in our kind of preliminary conversation with her we figured out that there's sort of a little book end to the season .

Lauren

Yeah , a little symbiotic , the right word . I don't know if that's the right word , or sort of like a I don't know .

Mallory

There's a thread , there's a through line .

Lauren

There's an arc , there's a denouement .

Mallory

Oh , my God Sorry .

Stacey Kelleher

Drink of the week yeah , drink of the week . Drink of the week yeah , drink of the week .

Lauren

Anyway what are we drinking ?

Mallory

today .

Lauren

Lauren , we are drinking . Well , it is the morning time and we still have full days of work to do , so we are drinking coffees today , yes , from Starbucks .

Mallory

But they're .

Lauren

Christmassy , christmassy cocktail . Christmas not cocktails , christmassy coffees .

Mallory

Yeah yeah , peppermint mochas and things of the like . Yeah , simple , sweet , to the point , and it woke me up . That's all I need Today on the podcast . I'm so excited we have Stacy Keller here , I know , and we .

We saw her first play at an event that we were at a few years ago and then you recently saw some of her new stuff when you were out at around , correct ?

Stacey Kelleher

Yeah .

Mallory

Yeah , I can't wait to hear her new material and just have a chat with her about how she got into music and about where she's from , and just learn her story .

Lauren

We kind of went through the same program that I believe that like artist development program , yeah , and so I think , yeah , we probably have some stuff to chat about , yeah , and we're going to do that too .

Mallory

Yeah , I'm sure we do .

Lauren

But yeah , let's bring her , let's go get her . Okay , sounds good .

Mallory

Welcome to the podcast Stacy . Thanks for having me .

Stacey Kelleher

guys , Thanks for coming in and I'm morning to talk about music and drink coffee together .

Mallory

What we like to do here on the liner notes podcast is we like to attempt to create what we call an audio capsule , Because , you know , we don't often get to hold a CD jacket or a record in our hands quite the same way that we used to and you know that was one of our favorite things is to just sit in and read through those liner notes and learn who

wrote on each song , where it was recorded , who played on it , who the engineer was , and also content . Like you know , VH1's behind the music or pop up video or TRL , and so we're just doing our little part to put a drop in the bucket of recreating some of that kind of content for artists that we really admire .

Stacey Kelleher

So thanks for being here today . Yeah , thanks for having me .

Mallory

Yeah , and for our listeners who have never heard your beautiful voice before or encountered your music yet , would you give us a you know backstory into your journey , how you got into performing , writing , recording whatever you want to share ?

Stacey

Sure , yeah Well , I'm a singer , songwriter and producer . I've been singing and making music for as long as I can remember . I was always like jamming to the radio , growing up and performing for my family , like whenever I could , as a little kid .

And I remember my parents started me in piano lessons when I was six and I loved it and I would play all the time at home .

And then I really wanted to start guitar at age nine because that was around the time that Taylor Swift happened and I had just been really wanting to play because my music teacher at school played guitar when we would sing our little chorus , songs and stuff .

And so I started guitar and I remember I started writing my own songs and they were awful and from there I just did everything musical that I could . Growing up I would do band and chorus .

Once I got to like middle school and I did theater and high school and I did an acapella group in high school and just like literally everything that had something to do with music I did . I was obsessed . So that's amazing and you're from New Hampshire , right .

Lauren

Yeah , I fell in New England . Yeah , that's awesome . Yeah , when did you move to ?

Stacey

Nashville . I moved to Nashville September , first 2019 .

Mallory

Oh , okay , wow , Right before the big bang , yeah , yeah .

Stacey

Almost exactly six months Wow .

Lauren

Four , yeah , crazy . I got married in October of 2019 . And I feel like I was , like I just we just shaved right under , scooted right under the . Covid , you really did yeah .

Mallory

Yeah , it's like the action movie when , like the curtains closing or the doors closing and you guys like slid under yeah , yeah , right , yeah yeah .

Lauren

So true , didn't have to postpone or anything which was nice . Yeah , Moving here at that time must have been sort of well . You kind of got your footing , probably a little bit .

Stacey

I feel like the first six months is tough yeah .

Lauren

In any city that you moved to . But then boom .

Stacey Kelleher

Yeah .

Lauren

Yeah , did you move here alone , or did you move here with anybody else , or ?

Stacey

I moved here by myself but a lot of my friends from college were moving like at the same time . So I knew like once I got here that like I'd have a ton of friends here , but I actually I drove down from New Hampshire by myself in two days . Wow , that's awesome , insane .

Lauren

Yeah , that's good . Yeah , I've done about it . We've done like Rhode Island to here in one day .

Stacey Kelleher

Okay .

Lauren

So did you hit the hamsters hours further ? That's like a lot further .

Stacey Kelleher

Yeah , it's already .

Lauren

It's hard to do in one day .

Stacey

One day .

Lauren

So yeah , two days is great by yourself .

Stacey

Yeah , yeah , thinking back on it , I'm like that's so crazy , but I guess I was so excited to get here .

Mallory

Yeah , when you have something you're looking forward to , you're like I'll just keep going .

Stacey

Yeah , did you go to school for music , or I did , I went to Berkeley . Oh , you did , you went to Berkeley , awesome yeah . And then I spent the summer in New Hampshire just like I was playing gigs with like a booking agency there and I just saved up all my money .

Stacey Kelleher

Now it goes .

Stacey

And then I kind of like got all my ducks and a row , got all my things together and then I was like September 1st , we're doing it , we're driving down .

Mallory

I love it . She made the decision , made it happen .

Stacey

Yes , it's crazy to be out now . It's like , oh my God .

Mallory

Cool . So you grew up with a very musical background . Do you feel like that was just always something that you knew ? What did you want it to do ? Does it come right by your family ? Are they performers or writers or anything ? How do you feel like ? When is the moment that you remember that you were like , yeah , this is what I want to do with my life ?

Stacey

Yeah , I feel like I kind of always knew which is like so cheesy . No , it happens , it's a thing , we get it .

Mallory

Yeah .

Stacey

I just like always knew , especially as I got into like middle school and like even like high school , I was like , even when I was a freshman , I was like decided , like I was like this is what I'm doing . I mean , I knew I always wanted to perform .

I didn't know if I was going to like be like a songwriter or an artist or whatever , but like I knew I always wanted to be the one like on stage Nice . But my family's not musical at all , my parents aren't , but both of my grandfathers were musical .

My dad's father played the trumpet in like a marching band and my mom's father was an organist and actually so crazy . They both have passed away , but I learned at my mom's father's funeral that he was offered the position to be the organ player at Fenway Park . No way .

Mallory

I got chills when you said that that's amazing .

Stacey

I did not even know that because he was like so humble , like he just I had no idea and he actually he turned it down to be with his family as he didn't want to like be away all the time and both of my . It's a lot of games . Yeah , it's a lot of games . It's a lot to do and that's like a huge thing .

At Fenway specifically , did they still have an organist ?

Lauren

I wonder they do , oh , they do . I would be surprised if they do . Wow , I was just like do they just have a recording now , or ?

Stacey

I think they do Wow . But both of my grandparents each had six kids , so my parents are each one of six , so I can totally understand why . But I learned that as funeral and I was like wow , that's so crazy . So it makes sense to me .

Mallory

I love learning things like that about your grandparents or great grandparents .

Stacey Kelleher

Oh yeah , it's just so fun .

Mallory

Can you tell us a bit about the first recording experience that you remember ?

Stacey

Yeah , I can . I remember even going to Berkeley I had no idea how music was made . I had messed around a garage band before and stuff . But I didn't really know , being from a small town in New Hampshire . That's not something that people do or know about .

So I remember at Berkeley we all had to take an intro to music tech class and I remember just being so fascinated by it . And then my third year at Berkeley was when I was starting to write music and I had written a song called All I See and I wanted to track it .

And I had a friend who did a lot of music production and she majored in engineering and we rented out a studio down the street called the Record Company in Boston and I just felt so cool and it just felt like something that was meant for me , if that makes sense .

And I remember feeling so cool about tracking the vocals to my own song that I had written by myself and it was just such an out of body experience . Honestly I was like , yeah , I want to keep doing this .

Mallory

That's so cool .

Studio Recording and Happy Accidents

When you guys recorded the songs , do you remember anything about how the setup was ? Did you guys just build everything from the ground up , by starting with drums and then adding bass and then guitars , or was it like you ?

Stacey Kelleher

had all three of them in a room together .

Mallory

Do you remember any about how the songs were put together ?

Stacey

Yeah , it was very much how I still do it now , which was I tracked the guitar first and then we did drums with my friend who still produces for me now and lives in Nashville , which is really funny .

Stacey Kelleher

Oh cool .

Stacey

Yeah , so we still make music together . And then we did all that , did some bass , a lot of it was just through logic , like tracking midi , and then I did the vocals last and it was so different because I always play guitar and sing or play piano and sing , and having to do it separately is like it's a weird thing , isn't it ?

Stacey Kelleher

It's weird .

Stacey

yeah , it's almost like I feel like I'm hyper focused on my guitar playing and then hyper focused on the vocals , and I also like to track section by section , so the verse and then the chorus , and I'm so used to just singing it all the way through , doing both at the same time . So it's definitely different in that way , totally .

Also kind of cool because you can , I guess , focus a little more on each thing , but it was definitely different , for sure .

Lauren

I feel like it's like that when doing like harp , because we're used to singing harmonies together , yeah , and so when we're singing , we're recording separately but we don't record the harmonies at the same time .

Mallory

Sometimes we're like it's like oh , this is so weird , what is the part ?

Stacey

Yeah , it's like match up perfectly .

Lauren

Yeah we're usually feeding off of each other and so , yeah , when you're not doing it at the playing and singing , it's like the yes , it is like that . You can't see me , but I'm tapping my head and rubbing my belly .

Stacey

Yeah , you're like so focused on it and you're like it's almost like if you focus too much , you'll like get off .

Lauren

Yeah , or like lose the sort of magic , that kind of like you don't want it to sound mechanical , or yeah , totally . That's cool and I love that you're still recording with your the same producer that you started with . And he's it's a guy .

Stacey Kelleher

He's here now .

Lauren

And then you guys , so I'm guessing you guys worked on your most recent projects together .

Stacey

Yeah , he did some of it , did you ?

Lauren

record that ? Where did you record that ?

Stacey

Did you do it like in a home studio or yeah , so it was in a couple of different home studios , because he has a studio , his name is Alex Vancell . And then I also did some stuff with Jake Olbaum from the Foxies that is so crazy .

Mallory

Yes , okay , we love that Because they were our first guests on the season this season . And now you're working with him .

Lauren

Yeah , you're our last guest of the season . I love this .

Stacey

Yeah , so great . I love that his little home studio as well . And then I tracked a little bit of another song at a studio out in Franklin when Alex was working out there . He did some work at a little place out there , so when are you ? Yeah , just a bunch of home studios .

Mallory

Trying different things . I mean listen , like home studio recording these days is what the big studios were years ago in many , many , many ways , Like the techniques that are applied are very much similar and the same . It's kind of like I always lately I've been thinking about it as like the first , like computers that they had that took up like rooms .

And then it's been like chunked down , and then we hold a little little Apple watch and studios used to be like that . It's like a computer , yes , and studios , I think , used to have those massive boards .

Lauren

Which a lot of them still do , and they're great , the boards are , and a lot of them are amazing .

Mallory

But as far as like the quality that you can put out from a home studio . You can do so much .

Lauren

And it sounds amazing .

Mallory

And I think that that's really been empowering as artists , because we can also be producers and we can afford it .

Stacey

Yeah right , Make it happen , yeah right .

Mallory

They return on investment sometimes is better when you take that approach . So I think that that's super smart and super cool . And then you get to hang out with your friends and make music together . And it is that similar camaraderie that the studio environments , I think , had before . But , it's even more personal , which is really cool .

So when you've been working with it's Alex right , alex and Jake and all the other people that you've kind of produced with or worked with we like to ask if you've ever had any happy accidents in the studio where you said something and it ended up on the record , or some instrument was plugged into another instrument oh yeah , you know , pedal board or outboard

gear , whatever it is and you ended up with something that you didn't expect to put on the record . We love stories like that . Do you have anything ?

Stacey

Yeah , I do . That happens all the time . I feel like , sometimes even like , even when I'm playing like live shows , sometimes I'll like fuck up a chord or something , and then I'm like wait , that was cool .

Mallory

I'm going to do that again next time .

Stacey

Yeah right , I'm going to put it back pocket . Yeah , there's so many , but I think the one that comes to mind first is this song that I did with Jake . It's the last song on my EP called Out of Orbit that I released this September .

The song's called Die on this Hill and we were tracking it and I had no idea that Jake has a real piano in his house and I really wanted this song to be primarily piano based , because I play a lot of guitar and I thought that piano would just fit the song so well and it would be a little different from my other stuff .

And I wanted to do kind of like a big piano outro . And so Jake put all these mics on the piano and he had some felt on the keys so it would sound kind of muted and really pretty .

And I also wanted to get kind of like some outside noise , so he stuck a mic outside so it would get like some of the birds and the wind , because I think we did it in May and it was like the most beautiful day ever and I still have no idea what it is .

But there is this like talking , that's like in there and it kind of sounds like it's me , but I don't know what it is , but it sounds like I'm like talking to somebody and like having like this conversation and it's so cool . And I didn't even notice it until I think I got maybe like the first or second mix back from Alex who mixed it .

I was like what the fuck is that ? But it sounds so cool and it adds so much and you can kind of make out what whoever it is it sounds like it's me , but I wasn't talking when we tracked it , so You're double finger was walking their dog by the way .

Mallory

Yeah , I have really no clue who it is .

Stacey

It sounds like me it could be anybody , but it's so cool and it's just like so subtle and I love it . It adds a little atmosphere and a little layer in there .

Mallory

So no idea what it is . So just so you guys all know . Out there listeners , you could be walking your dog and end up on a record . It's my idea . It could be a ghost , who knows Well . And speaking of your most recent EP out of orbit , you're going to play a few songs for us today which we're very excited about .

Can you tell us a bit about Over Committed ?

Stacey

Yeah , so Over Committed , I wrote with my friends Emily Grugliss and Fran Litterski . We wrote it , I think , at the end of 2021 . Pretty sure , yeah , and at the time I was just feeling spread so thin . I was feeling like , no matter how much I did , my to-do list was just never ending . Yeah , and I really just wanted to have more time for myself .

But on top of that , it's also hard to figure out how to do that sometimes , because you don't want to feel like you're disappointing people if you're a people pleaser like myself and you also don't want to turn down cool opportunities , especially as like an independent musician you guys know .

But I was just and still am really trying to figure out like a balance that works , and so that song is just so meaningful to me still , and I feel like it's even grown on me more because I'm like how do I manage everything without feeling like I'm gonna Follow-over Johnny ? Yeah well , also Not turning down things that I really want to do .

Lauren

So , yeah , it's definitely a balance , a dance of and we've talked a little bit about , you know , self-care as artists on this podcast too , and it's so important , yeah , and that's like a big part of it is like finding that

The Challenges of Being an Artist

balance .

Mallory

I think there's a misconception that you're as an artist . Like you know , it's still the same way that it was where , like a label scouts you or whatever . And then what's your sign Like ? Your work here is done and you can kind of just focus on the creative stuff that that is not the case at all .

In fact we're expected to almost work our own you know , seven or eight full-time jobs in order to kind of get our career off the ground , which is why team building is it also cost the same ?

Lauren

It's just we're paying for it .

Mallory

It's just a different way , that that the seeds are planted and right , while you're doing that , it you start to just add more and more and more , and I think that before you know it , it can feel very overwhelming , it can feel very unsustainable .

And so I'm really excited to hear you play this song for us , because a lot of our listeners are aspiring artists and a lot of Our listeners also just really want to know the behind the scenes of what it takes to be an artist . So yeah , big music yeah , yeah yeah , with that being said , listeners live on the liner notes podcast .

Here is Stacy Kelleher with over committed .

Stacey Kelleher

Double book myself again . When did I last see my friends Calendars and Tony print . Still can't fit all that shit in . Even need a break from my weekend . Feels like I'm running , running on fumes . Does anybody feel like this too ? Over committed ? Think I'm addicted , pushing my limits ? Can't say no , so I just don't . Who am I kidding ? This isn't living .

No , I love my life , can't complain . So why do I constantly feel drained ? Don't want to quit it ? Guess I'll admit it to myself . Damn , I'm over committed . Ooh , I'm over committed . Ooh , I'm over committed . Ooh , I'm over committed . Living just to cross off days . Tell myself it's just a phase and someday soon I'll slow down .

But that's on me , it's not right now . I'm always late and I'm stressed out . Gonna run myself right in the ground . Over committed . Think I'm addicted , pushing my limits .

Ooh , it feels like I'm running , running on fumes . Does anybody Feel like ? They still always feel like I need an excuse just to take a little time , and that's why I'm over committed . Ooh , I'm over committed . Ooh , I'm over committed .

Think I'm addicted , pushing my limits , can't say no , so I just don't . Who am I kidding ? This isn't living . No , I love my life , can't complain . So why do I constantly feel drained , Don't want to quit it ? Guess I'll admit it to myself . Damn , I'm over committed . Ooh , I'm over committed . Ooh , I'm over committed . Ooh , I'm over committed .

Lauren

Ooh .

Mallory

I'm over committed .

Stacey Kelleher

Ooh , I'm over committed .

Lauren

Ooh , I'm over committed .

Mallory

Ooh , I'm over committed , ooh , I'm over . Committed , ooh , I'm over committed .

Lauren

Ooh , I'm over committed .

Mallory

Ooh , I'm over committed . Ooh , I'm over committed .

Lauren

Ooh , I'm over committed .

Mallory

Ooh , I'm over committed . I appreciate that perspective that you shared . Thanks , yeah , and then you're gonna play another song for us , and I'm really excited to hear this one live as well , because of the textures and the tuning and everything . Can you tell us a bit about UFO ?

Stacey

Yes , I can . Oh my gosh . I wrote UFO at the end of last year With my friends Emily Gurglis as well , and Cole Miracle , and Cole actually just signed a publishing deal . He's killing it . So I feel so lucky that I got to write with him Before he blew up it's like 17,000 number one hits .

But he actually brought the idea and we had this session it was my first time writing with him too and he was like , yeah , like I was walking on the treadmill the other day , like I had this idea and it's like it's UFO , but it stands for you Forever Only . And I was like , well , fuck , whatever I said , like let's write that .

I just feel so lucky that I was the artist in the room that day and got to use that idea , because it just is so cool and I love songs that really make me think like that and that have kind of like a double meaning , because it definitely has a lot of that like spacey language , but also UFO stands are something totally different .

And this is my first song that I released that I feel like Kind of leaned a little more into the like country atmosphere and I grew up on country music and I have such a like deep love for it and my music is definitely primarily more pop .

But this song really like helped me see a space for myself that leans a little bit more in that direction , which has been really eye-opening . And this song also just definitely has like done a lot for me and really like opened a lot of doors for me as well . So I'm really thankful for it , and I actually got to play it at the Bluebird earlier this year .

Mallory

Awesome .

Stacey

Yeah , my good friend , emily Shackleton , who is an incredible songwriter , has written for Carly Pierce and Reba and all kinds of other people asked me to come play a song and I knew that I wanted it to be this one . So , yeah , it means a lot to me . I actually got a UFO tattooed on my arm .

Lauren

Oh , I love that . I also I heard you sing the song at the pin drop series , yeah , a couple months ago , and you had said that you were playing it at your friend's wedding . Yeah , it is so perfect and I was like oh my gosh , it's such a good wedding song . Did you cry when you were singing it ? I did do it live I did .

Stacey

I did cry . I really thought I was going to , because every time I practiced it and even thought about it I got a little teary . But yeah , I played it at my friend's Carly and Grant's wedding . They run around here in town called Bullos and Booze oh cool .

It happens to the dogwood every Sunday and they also have a little kind of production company called Studio Rats and they're amazing , so definitely check them out .

Stacey Kelleher

Yeah , we will .

Stacey

But yeah , I played it at their wedding at their house in East Nashville . I love that and it was so special .

Lauren

It's such a good wedding song . It is and it's not a true , I feel like it's not like I said . It's like a cool wedding song , absolutely .

Stacey

Thanks , yeah , it's such a good song . Thank you , yeah , it's been the first song that people know the words to , and I'll sing it around , or whatever . And I'll see people singing it and that makes me I'm like , okay , what did you do ? I can't look at you , I'm gonna get choked up .

Lauren

I made my friend who lives in Massachusetts and he was like , can you make me a playlist of just a bunch of good songwriters and that's not top 40 stuff ? Aw , that's good , and I put that song on a playlist . Aw , thank you . I love that . I tried to put some great Nashville indie artists on there . Aw cool .

That was one of the songs I put on the playlist .

Mallory

That's something that's been . Fun is we've kind of felt like we'd get to collect cool songs . Yeah , People from doing this experience Right ?

Lauren

yeah , totally , and we just like lifting up fellow artists and creating a space for that and getting to know y'all . Getting to know everybody and for sure so .

Mallory

I guess let's , let's have her play it . Yeah , I'm excited Once again listeners on the Liner Notes podcast . Here is Stacey Kelliher with UFO .

Stacey

Alright , this is UFO .

Stacey Kelleher

You're holding my hand in the dark , but I still feel so nervous . Ooh , I'm afraid of space . If I hold too tight , is this gonna break ? Ooh , I'm afraid of space . Like somebody might take you away , cause it's you forever . So there's no one light in the sky . I'm never too better , so why would I even try ? God forbid you ever fall out of orbit .

Earth would be hopelessly lonely , cause it's you , you forever only . When you slated that and my mind's lost , I start looking precise . I turn written in the stars , in a star cross . I forget that we're fine .

Earth would be hopelessly lonely , cause it's you , you forever . Only I'd be forever only . If you ever let me on my own , I might as well be on Neptune .

I wouldn't know where my place is , walking around on the face of the earth . I'm a tired from the alienation , cause it's you forever , so there's no one light in the sky . I'm never too better , so why would I even try ? Cause it's you forever . So there's no one light in the sky . I'm never too better , so why would I even try ?

God forbid you ever fall out of orbit . Earth would be hopelessly lonely , cause it's you . You forever , only you , forever , only you , forever , only Stunning .

Mallory

Oh , thank you , oh that guitar tuning , though I know .

Lauren

I was trying hard not to harmonize . I know Sing along .

Mallory

That's a difficult thread for like no , I didn't , Don't do it .

Lauren

We had Juno who banned Andrews .

Stacey Kelleher

I don't know .

Lauren

He's great . We had just had him on the podcast Cool and he has this really awesome song called Sad Cowboys and Rock and Roll , oh that sounds sick . And it is like a perfect chorus , it's so good .

Oh , juno , and when I think I like stumbled on him on TikTok and we like instantly , were like hooked on that song and so when he was playing that on the podcast we were trying so hard not to sing along because we just love it .

Mallory

Yeah , lots of times when people are in this song .

Stacey Kelleher

Yeah it's great .

Mallory

After a chorus , when I'm just like don't do it , Don't do it . Yeah , I know .

Stacey Kelleher

Once that right now . It's not what's being asked right now .

Mallory

What a great song , wow . Like Lauren said before , it could be played on any Roco . It could be played at any wedding .

Lauren

Very singable .

Mallory

Yeah , something very special . I think you guys , when you wrote that song , captured lightning in a bottle . Thank you so much so excited to see where that one travels , like all over the galaxy .

Stacey Kelleher

Thank you .

Mallory

Yeah , absolutely . Well , I know pretty soon here we're going to take a little quick break and do some rapid fire questions . Before we do that , I feel like you're really good at asking this question . Okay , I'm going to let me take this one .

Lauren

Do you feel like there is an overarching message to your music that you'd like to convey to your audience or that you would want ?

Mallory

people to feel . People to feel , yeah , when they listen to your music or see you play live .

Stacey

Yeah , yeah , I feel like it's just I'm just another person , like just figuring it out , and I don't like to seem like I have everything like all together , because I don't , and also I like to kind of keep everything a little bit different , like I love to feel like I don't fit in a box .

I feel like a lot of my releases for next year are just more about the story and the song and they don't all sound the same like sonically , which I am really passionate about because I love just so much different music .

So I feel like lyrically , personally and genre-wise , I like to just be kind of all over the place Play yeah , and just as long as people can kind of relate to the songs , because that's what's so important to me and what's gotten me through my life is like having music and I'm like when you hear the lyrics you're like , wow , somebody else feels that way and

it's not just me . When it feels like it is , I feel like that's what I strive for and I just want to make people feel something and not seem like I have everything figured out , because I definitely don't

Social Media and Music Career Reflections

. I love that answer and my stomach rumbling over here .

Lauren

It probably got picked up on the mic , probably did . I'll turn it up real loud .

Stacey Kelleher

I love that answer . I love that too .

Mallory

And I think that's important to recognize , as an artist , that you're doing this to attempt to recreate those feelings that you feel when you hear songs .

Lauren

We're all doing our best yes . But nobody's perfect and sometimes on social media we can forget that . You know what I mean . Like people show their best , the best version of themselves or whatever , and I think it's good to be reminded .

Like even people you look up to , or there's always somebody who wants to be where you're at or is looking up to you , and just like you look up to other people , it's good to be reminded that even they don't always have their stuff together , because when you see , you're like , okay , okay , I can do this .

Stacey

That's so true . It's so easy to forget how far you've come and how , even like the you a year ago , we'd be so happy with what you said We'd be so proud of where you're at now , but in the moment it's so easy to just be thinking about what's next .

Mallory

Yeah , For sure . Being present and mindful , I think , is sometimes hard in today's world , when our feeds are constantly refreshing and we're just so used to like oh that happened , okay , moving on . Oh , that happened , okay , moving on .

Lauren

And seeing where somebody especially like right now Spotify wrapped is coming out and it's like comparing to what other people have , their numbers that they have and stuff like that , and it can make you feel kind of like man , like you can either feel like really proud of where you've gone in a year , which is that could be nice , but also I think it can make

some people feel you know , not as great too when they're looking at other people's numbers and you just , you try not to compare , but it .

Mallory

Well , that goes into that territory of comparison is the people joining yes . So , true . Very easy to fall into that trap and it's it's hard to zoom out or in .

Stacey Kelleher

Yeah .

Mallory

Okay , like what I have to offer is enough .

Lauren

Right Important yeah .

Mallory

Even if you reach one person like you , never know how .

Lauren

That's right .

Mallory

Your music or your message , or even just an interaction , can be to them , so I think it's important to always be mindful of that as well .

Lauren

So true , and also it's like you can . You can feel how you're feeling about it and then be like , okay , well , can I do better for what I'm looking for next year and what ? How do I want to do better next year ?

Mallory

Yeah , tis the season to reassess what's cool for sure . Yeah , your resolutions are creeping up on us quickly . Yeah , but speaking of you know the rest of this year and the brand new year . I know you're doing a residency at the Bowery Vault during the month of December . Yeah , Tell us a little bit about that .

Stacey

Yeah , I'm so excited . The Bowery Vault is one of my favorite rooms in town . It's so intimate and like listening room style , so I'm really excited . It's every Thursday at 9pm in December and each week I'm having two of my really good friends kick off each night , which I'm stoked about .

I have some of my favorite people on Nashville opening up the shows and I'm going to be sharing all my music from this year , music from the last couple of years , but then also playing a bunch of new stuff that's going to be coming out next year .

Lauren

So that's exciting Is Meredith Brownsie playing .

Mallory

Yeah , I love her .

Stacey Kelleher

I know she's so cool .

Lauren

Yeah .

Stacey

She is doing the one on December 14th Awesome , yeah , that's great .

Mallory

Yeah , I can't wait , Well before we take a quick break and come back and do some rapid fire . Where can people find you on ?

Stacey

the Internet . Yeah so my Instagram is at I am Stacey Kelleher . All my music is just under my name , Stacey Kelleher . And then my TikTok is also at Stacey Kelleher .

Lauren

Right on , so we'll put it in the show notes .

Mallory

Yes , we will . Yeah , so we're going to take a quick break , but don't go anywhere . We're going to be right back with more Stacey Kelleher and some rapid fire . All righty , we are back on the liner notes podcast with Stacey Kelleher and it is time for rapid fire . Don't be scared , don't be nervous . Just let the answers come to you as they do .

Okay , take all the time you want , perfect , but just answer according to the first thing that comes into your heart and mind . What are two items on your artist bucket list ?

Stacey

To play at the Rhyman and to release a full length album . I love it , both of those .

Mallory

Simple and succinct . Yes , you're going to do both those things very soon . Yeah , I see it , I see it .

Lauren

So write or record with anyone alive and no longer with us . Who would they be ?

Stacey

One of each . Yeah , alive Casey Musgraves , I can see that for sure .

Stacey Kelleher

Yeah .

Stacey

That's mother no longer with us . Oh man , maybe Elvis ? Yes , I think yeah , elvis .

Mallory

It would be very interesting to actually write a song with Elvis .

Stacey

Yeah , I just feel like that would be wild and I would just want to do it for the experience .

Lauren

Yeah , because it would just be so . When you said I would want to do it , I was like yes .

Stacey Kelleher

I was like oops .

Stacey

I'm just kidding , it would be the most wild experience and I would just want to know what it would be like To be even in the room with him . Yeah .

Mallory

Yeah , For sure I would read Priscilla's book Elvis and Me . It was very interesting to see her perspective on how just day-to-day operations would go in that universe .

Lauren

Oh , I'm sure it was man being a fan of her .

Mallory

I got a read the plan a while , it would be very interesting . Yeah , at least I got to read that . Yeah , it's very good . I highly recommend it . Would you say that you're a morning ?

Stacey

person or a night owl . Probably a night owl . I used to be a morning person , but I feel like it's being a full-time musician . It's flopped yeah To a night owl For sure .

Mallory

Absolutely . That's when you have time to think , right , yeah , and you have good ideas and be creative . Yes , and then it also keeps you up late at night . True , yeah , that's happening , it does .

Lauren

Name one guilty pleasure or nerdy indulgence , for lack of a better word . Guilty , you don't believe in guilty pleasures here .

Stacey

The Kardashians yes , I'm obsessed .

Mallory

It's so good . Do you have a favorite Kardashian , or do you just love different things about each of them ?

Stacey

I think that my favorite is Kim , because I think she's an incredible business woman and I love skims . I'm wearing a skims body suit right now .

Lauren

Yeah , you are .

Stacey

Yeah , I love skims and I also just love her personality . I think she's really funny and down to earth , but also she's spoken up freaking Harvard , yeah , like she's such a badass and everything she's doing with getting incarcerated people that are not guilty wrongfully accused .

Mallory

Yeah , out of jail . Yeah , I'm like , yes , or just a sentence doesn't match the offense . Yeah , right , yeah .

Stacey

I think that's really cool . Use that platform .

Lauren

For sure , I do love me some Khloe though .

Stacey

I was going to say I like Kendall too . I like Kendall too .

Mallory

I like Khloe , I love Khloe . I like Kendall . Maybe a better follow up question is which one you could spend like like $1 million . If you could spend like an entire VIP day with one Kardashian and hang out with them or have dinner at Chris's house with all of them , like what would you pick ?

Lauren

I would have dinner at all with all of them .

Stacey

Oh my God , I think I would love to have a VIP day with Kim though . Yeah , like to go on like one of her little like trips to Paris or whatever , for like a fashion show .

Stacey Kelleher

On Kim Air , on Kim Air .

Stacey

Yes , oh , if we were going on Kim Air , it would be a day with Kim . Yeah , I love it . I love that yeah .

Mallory

All right , this question . You don't have to name names , but we would love to know the worst venue you've ever played at or the worst show experience you've ever had .

Stacey Kelleher

Oh , wait , that's such a cheat , oh my God .

Lauren

It could just be like the worst show , like experience .

Mallory

The worst how it went .

Lauren

Or like you just show up to the venue and you're like this is not the vibe , but you may never want to play there again , so you may be like you might not have a problem calling them out .

Stacey

All right , I've got it Okay .

Disappointing Showcase and Irrational Fears

So when I first moved here , I think it was like October 2019 . So I'd been here for like a month and I got asked to go to Memphis and do this like showcase . It was going to be a bunch of artists Some were touring , some were like local from Nashville , and everybody was going to go and like play a few songs at this venue there .

I think it was called . I don't even know what it was called . I think it was called maybe like Rock House or something Okay , but it sounded really cool . It wasn't through them , like , it was just there , yeah . And I was like sick , like yeah , let's go . Like . And I had just moved here .

So I was like I got asked to do this cool thing and go to Memphis . I've never been like let's go . And so I went with my drummer .

Thank God I did not go alone , because we show up there and I'm just like it is like the tiniest , like probably the venue was like as big as this room and we're in a studio , so , like it's not big , the place is like , oh my god , falling apart , and they were like maybe gonna have it outside out back , but I think it ended up being too cold .

But we like went outside to like look , and there was literally I can't make , so it was like pitch black and there was this smashed piano outside like completely like smash , and Me and my drama went with me .

We just looked at each other and we were like we're gonna die tonight , like we're gonna die , and all of the like artists that were supposed to be playing were like Not actually artists , not even to shame them , like it was just like they weren't even like .

They were all just like singing to like karaoke tracks and like and we drove like to Memphis from here . It's like three hours and back . We didn't get paid , they didn't feed us and it was like it was awful .

We like played the songs and we were like , let's get the fuck out of here , we basically got there , played like five songs and then immediately drove back and it was like six hours in the car for nothing and they just hyped it up to seem like it was gonna be the sickest thing ever .

And you know like I'm down to play like a free show here and there , but it was just . I Was like not what you were thinking at all .

Lauren

Yeah , I was like never technically you paid to play that show .

Stacey

Yeah , yeah , yeah pay for the gas . We had to buy food when we got there , yeah , late and you're about to drive three hours back . Yeah , of course , and it was like when I tell you like I've played in many a shitty place , but this place , I was like Definitely people have like died in , you know .

Mallory

Energy . That was not .

Stacey

Playing music that night . Yeah , there was an energy . There was an energy for you .

Mallory

Yeah , I mean , I'd say I'm not surprised . Yeah that does happen disappointed .

Stacey

And then when ?

Mallory

the promoter on top of that is not on top of their shit , it is also yeah , yeah no , it's like dude , you got to promote this too , yeah me . Yep , yeah , 100% man .

Lauren

Okay . What seemingly innocent habit or human behavior Might make you think someone is a serial killer ?

Stacey

Excessive staring , yeah , yep , excessive staring like , staring like laser focus excessive staring , when I look at you and you don't even try to like hide the fact that you were staring at me , and then I look I'm talking about a super person .

But yeah , it's like dude , like when people are just like staring at you , it's like creeping doing the creep , yeah it's like dude , I can see you , I can see you seeing me and it's not comfortable .

Mallory

Yeah , so weird . It is so weird .

Stacey Kelleher

Yeah .

Lauren

I don't like it . Either definitely not mm-hmm .

Mallory

Yep . So just so you know , if you tend to stare people down , maybe I feel like .

Lauren

I feel like intense eye contact and staring have been the answer for like quite a few times , and so if there's definitely something , there's something to help for sure . Yeah .

Mallory

Really there is . It's scary Well to piggyback on that question . Do you have any quote-unquote Random irrational fears , phobias or hatreds ?

Stacey

I really don't like like Windows at night , when it's dark outside and like there's no like shade to close it . It just freaks me out cuz like I'm afraid somebody's like walking at me yeah .

Mallory

Most horror movies have like the windows all wide open , like not open . Yeah , they don't have curtains .

Lauren

Yeah , yeah . I hate the idea of someone staring in a window or like through a door at you is Just . It's the most horrifying thing . It's so , yeah , so much , it's so scary .

Stacey

Yeah , I also hate Like kind of going off that like being on the first floor for sure .

Mallory

Yeah , I'm rational .

Stacey

Being like on the first floor at night too . Like I don't like that either . Like if I'm on like a first floor Apartment or something and there's like windows and stuff like that , like that can not , can break me out , depending on like where I am .

Mallory

Yeah , you know that that's true , like the way that a building is set up that can have Like people walking by or just like yeah , you're on the ground floor in a hotel room sometimes , and you can like here Everybody checking in and out .

Stacey

Yeah , also , speaking of hotels , the peepholes freak me out .

Lauren

Oh , I know , I know we were just staying , not to the tangent at all , but we were just staying in a hotel , like for one night recently and there was like oh , like I guess it was like the Staff hallway , okay , was on one side , and then the door , like the door to walk in , was one side , and then there was like a staff hallway , there's another door

on the other side in a whole window , and for for a while I was like I don't see curtains , like to close this . So are we just like supposed to sleep with this window open ? Oh no , I did not like it . I finally figured it out , but it was like I was like no , we need to switch rooms . I cannot do this .

I cannot sleep with this like window open right now . Yeah , people could just walk by the hallway .

Mallory

Oh yeah , we figured it out , there was coverage .

Lauren

Yeah , he would have switched for sure .

Mallory

But , yeah , sometimes . Sometimes the hotel room can give you the heebie .

Stacey

I know yeah , oh , for sure yeah .

Mallory

You're turning . Oh is it ?

Lauren

okay , um , okay , what is your favorite season ?

Stacey

My favorite season , I think , is I'm really a big here in Nashville . I really like the winter because I just love the relief of the cold after the summers here totally hot but I'm from New England so I'm definitely like a fall girl . But here we just don't really get . It's not the same , we don't get much of one .

So I'm fall for New England and I'm winter for here .

Mallory

Yeah , right on .

Stacey

Yeah .

Mallory

Oh , you get .

Lauren

Yeah , I don't have it on this list . I must have the other , the one , I don't know why . Name three indie artists or bands everyone should be listening to .

Stacey

Oh , I love this . Um , I love my friend Jenna Matthew . She's amazing . She has this song called stereo that she put out this year . I'm obsessed with so woman's song is so good . I think I got it .

Lauren

We do like that . We do a . What are you listening to ? At the end of the podcast and I definitely said her song . Oh , after that same pin drop show .

Stacey

She rocks , she's so good . I think she's signed now , but she's local in Nashville , so I'm gonna say her anyway Bre Kennedy . Oh , I love her so much and also I randomly met her because she was fostering my dog that I ended up adopting oh she named her , her name's row and Bre named her , so we have that like super fun little connection .

So I love Bre , love her music , love everything that she does . And then I Don't think he has any music out yet . But my friend Jefferson rink , he's another pin drop guy and he's playing my first Bowery show with me this Thursday , december 7th . Ah , but he's awesome and the first time that I heard him I was like Blown away .

So be on the lookout for him because I think he's working on music right now . So very cool .

Lauren

Yeah yeah , that's a great name too . Yeah , it is .

Stacey

Oh yeah , he's . He's the coolest . Do you have a favorite book ? Oh yeah , I . This year I made like a resolution to read again . I would say my favorite book is probably .

Lauren

You can say more than one , okay .

Stacey

I love Verity by Colleen Hoover . I read that book in like two days . It's really creepy . Oh , it's like a mind fuck nice . It's really good . I love that one and I also love all the Hunger Games , yeah so good . Yeah , that's like my favorite Like series of books ever so good , it's got something for everybody .

Mallory

I feel like that series .

Lauren

It's just really well done . Her world building is excellent .

Stacey

Her world building is crazy . Like I , I'm rereading the ballads of songbirds and snakes because I saw the movie twice and it's just crazy how , like , the more that you think about it , the more questions that you have , and like that to me is like Definitely like something to inspire me for like songwriting , oh yeah .

Lauren

You want to re like to both of you guys . I haven't read it yet , but you guys have both read it . Yeah , do you feel like you want to reread hunger ?

Mallory

Yes , yes , I do and I also want her to do a connection book between the end of this book and the first Hunger Games book .

Lauren

I was saying . I was like I want to . I want to get a image , but I want to hang it . Yeah , oh .

Stacey

I , yeah , I would love a huge book . She's got to write more books . Yeah , I'll do anything , yeah she have other series .

Mallory

I feel like she does . Yes , one more , but I haven't read any of it . And but I , I personally feel the way that she left this book , the way that the ballads of ballad of songbirds and snakes ends . There's another book coming , like it's there has to be .

Stacey

There's no way there isn't there has to be . There's just so much Uncovered territory , yeah , and I have so many questions , and even the way they ended the movie as well .

Mallory

It's like yeah they kind of did the branding at the end of the movie . It's kind of like , okay , we're not done yet .

Lauren

Yeah , interesting

Comfort Food and Influential Artists

. What is your comfort food of choice ?

Stacey

I love pizza and I also love pasta because I'm Italian , so really any like rich Italian food .

Mallory

You're there for it and therefore it's my go-to . If you were in Italy and you could have a chef make you whatever you want .

Stacey

Oh , you have to make . Probably probably gnocchi . Yeah , yeah , what kind of sauce ? Probably like a or you know what . Either that or like the spicy rigatoni . Oh , yeah , yeah with like the spicy marinara yeah .

Mallory

Yeah , yes , oh , now I'm hungry .

Stacey

Yeah , napoli , yes , I have it is good .

Lauren

I Like how flick fresh , I like like the fresh and sauce .

Stacey

their sauce is really fresh , oh , yeah , I haven't been there for a minute . Yeah , I haven't either , actually , yeah , yes , yeah .

Mallory

So I feel like this . The past question could have answered this one , but it's not always necessarily the case . Do you prefer sweet or savory ?

Stacey

most of the time , I , Think savory most of the time . Yeah , I definitely can go for some sweet stuff , but I would say most of the time I'm a savory girly .

Lauren

Yeah , yeah in your mind . What is a perfect album ? No skipped songs , not commercially , but just for you , for me like if you're driving from New Hampshire to .

Mallory

What's an album that you would put on , where you don't have to skip any song . Then you just like love every song .

Stacey

Yeah , it's got to be something where it takes me on a journey , like I would say , anything that I feel like has a lot of variety , but the songs also really tell stories and there are a good combo of like some really upbeat songs and then some ballads and then some like in between mid-tempo's , like I'd say , like Golden Hour , casey Musgraves , or even

StarCrossed I love that one by her Continue on John Mayer , heard it in a Past Life , maggie Rogers , just stuff that has a really good mix of like bangers stuff that makes me feel something .

So I go through like a range of emotions because that's what keeps me really engaged , because like , once you have me in one specific feel and then I'm immediately in another specific feel , I'm just like all over the board and like I love that . Yeah , nice .

Mallory

Yeah , I love all those albums you mentioned so good . Who is a one hit wonder that you consider severely underrated , or what is a one hit wonder ?

Lauren

Yeah , song or artist .

Stacey

I guess . I mean , she's not really a one hit wonder , but she's had one song that's bigger than others Carly Rae Jepsen .

Lauren

Oh , yeah , totally .

Stacey

Because Call Me Maybe was like the song .

Mallory

That song is a jam still man and she drinks them like her newer stuff is really great . It's so good . Yeah , she's still out there like touring and like doing her thing , she's sure .

Lauren

But that song was like definitely I would say that's her one hit for sure .

Stacey

Yeah .

Lauren

She's had some really great stuff and she's still really killing it .

Mallory

Yeah , the album she put out , I think 2019 Dedicated is so good , I've never listened to the whole thing , so I would love to go check that out now that you say that .

Stacey

Yeah .

Mallory

Great , I love that yeah .

Lauren

Last question , yeah , last question who are your three biggest influences and why ?

Stacey

Definitely Casey Musgraves . I mean , if you couldn't guess that , I just love how she is doing her own thing and has , like , really created this whole lane for herself . She is talked about a lot in this book . I don't know if y'all read it . Her Country by Marissa Moss .

Mallory

Yeah , that's a really cool book .

Stacey

And it's just so cool because , like when you think about it , like literally her , I think her first single was it was either Mary the Mary . Ground ? Yeah , it was either Mary Ground or Follow your Arrow .

Lauren

But those were her first two . It was Mary Ground

Unconventional Music and Teaching Students

, for sure .

Stacey

Yeah , and even those , both being her first two , are just so unconventional and like so important for country music , like talking about weed and gay rights , like let's go , yeah , yeah , absolutely .

And I just love how she has like her team of creatives that she always goes back to and works with , like Daniel Taschen and Ian Fitchick , and she just and she just works with them and does her thing and it's totally like untraditionally country and it rocks . And I just love how all the songs are so good but she just fuses so many different genres .

So , yeah , love her . I would say Harry Styles is really up there for me . Yeah , kind of same with him . Like talk about perfect albums , I feel like all things are so good . Yeah , he's just doing his own thing . His band is like equally women and men yeah , just dope .

His drummer , female drummer yeah , badass , I love that and I love how he just does whatever he wants and doesn't apologize , and it's really good music and it's great music yeah , so it's so awesome . And then for the third , I would say this is hard .

In case I would say a lot of my students that I teach actually Awesome , because I've had I teach on the side and I've had a lot of the same students now for like four years , like since I really moved here , and I can be having like the worst day ever and like getting to go and like teach one of my students like a Taylor Swift song and like see their

face like light up and like see them have so much fun like playing it and singing it like reminds me like why I started and like why I still do it and yeah , that's just like literally turned around days or even weeks for me , have you ?

Lauren

ever had a student ask to like learn one of your songs ? Yeah , that's amazing .

Stacey

I had one of my students actually learn . I have this song called worst case scenario . That was on my first EP that I released here , and she not only wanted to learn it on piano and singing it , but she did it at her school talent show .

Lauren

Stop it , that's so cute .

Stacey

Yeah , so cute , and her parents like filmed it and sent it to me because she lives in Boston so I couldn't go . But that for me was like wow , like that's really cool , that is super cool , yeah , mallory teaches as well , so she can relate .

Lauren

Oh cool .

Mallory

Yeah , yeah , I've had . I've been lucky . It's been nieces and nephews that have asked to learn my songs for the most part or our songs for the most part , which is it's so fun . But I agree with you , like when you see little kids face light up , whether it's like you know they're reading music and they finally clicked and they got it .

Yeah , or whether they're playing a song like a Taylor Swift song , like you said , that they just they love it and yeah so happy that they can do it too , yeah .

Stacey

I love when they're like I'll be like explaining something , and then they'll just be like , oh , so it's like , and then they just go and do it and I'm like yeah , exactly , you get it .

Lauren

I'm like the kids who are like a little little like you're , like you're so cool , like you're like that , I feel like that kid that did the who Rick rolled his dad . Oh yeah , oh my God , he , like , he like , wanted to learn .

Mallory

Yeah , recitals , I do a virtual recital where we just treat it like a TV show and we like announced them and fade in and out . I just edit it all together . And I asked him was like hey , so what do you want to do for ? What do you want to do for your fun song ?

Because I make them play something that they read and then they get to pick whatever they want for the other . And he just looked at me and goes I want to break for my dad . Oh , he's like nine . Oh , my God , he turned on the colored lights and made him wear a head .

Lauren

He liked a whole music video he did . That's awesome .

Mallory

Yeah , so fun , I love that oh man . Yeah , I know , teaching teaching students is such a good reminder of the why we do what we do . I think , that's such a good answer and I think it's really cool that you talk about how that influences you , because that is a very real thing that does happen .

You can't help when you're making that kind of connection with someone through sound . You can't help but be influenced by them and learn from them as well . Yeah , I think it's really cool that you said that . 100% Thanks . Well , stacy , this has been a delight .

Thank you for coming in on you know Monday morning and taking some time out to sing with you know , sing your songs for us and and drinking some coffee with us , and it's been a pleasure to get to know you and everybody . Go see her residency at the Barri Vol . If you're here in Nashville , definitely go check that out and stay tuned for more music .

It sounds like coming in 2024 . Yeah , is there anything that we didn't mention that you want to shout out before we say goodbye ?

Stacey

Um , yeah , I guess I have a bunch of new music coming out next year , so definitely stay tuned for that . Follow me online . Said my handles earlier , um , but yeah , thank you guys for having me . This has been awesome Our pleasure .

Lauren

I wish you had a good time , yeah .

Mallory

All right , listeners , we will be right back , see you soon .

Lauren

That was so great . What a nice little come over here . Yeah , what a nice little circle back , or just like a little perfect circle A .

Mallory

Birken A Birken , a Birken A Birken .

Lauren

Is that a Birken bag yes , a nice little bookend Started with the Foxies and with Stacy who was working with Jake from the Foxies .

Mallory

I love it . It's so cool . Yeah , it is the . It is the through line and the connection and we love to see that and we didn't even we did .

Lauren

I mentioned it in the beginning in our intro , but we didn't even talk about the fact that we both went through the same sort of program , um , which is called zero to 60 and kind of just um , both , like I mean , I'm sure she learned a lot from it . We learned a lot from it too .

Oh yeah definitely , and that's how we sort of discovered her in the first place .

Mallory

But , yes , that that program was instrumental in us discovering and connecting with and hearing so many brand new artists . So it's it's cool to see what everybody's been up to . For sure , the Daily Fair . We met them through that program too . Yeah , so many people . Yeah , um , what are you listening to , lauren ?

Lauren

Okay , so , I found this guy on TikTok um named Ren and he's like a British singer , songwriter , producer , rapper , multi , multi instrumentalist Um , and his stuff's kind of like it's a little dark , um , but it's . It's like you would flip like his .

His like flow is so sick , he's so good , awesome , like , really , really intelligent , like um rhymes and just playing with the sound Just like really like yeah really really great , right on , I love that stuff . Uh , you know me and um and he also has like a really great singing voice too . Um and his song .

The first I heard on uh , on TikTok was his song Violet's Tale . And then I went and listened to his new album , which is called Sick Boy , um , and yeah , it's really fucking cool .

Mallory

Cool , that sounds like something that I would definitely love to check out , yeah .

Lauren

What have you been ?

Mallory

listening to .

So the other day in my car you know me , I'm the shuffle queen like whatever comes on , shuffle of them like sends me down a rabbit hole of another artist or band for a little while , um , but jealous by labyrinth , came on my shuffle and I was like , oh my gosh , like I haven't listened , sat and never just like listened to a labyrinth album , like I've just

heard his singles or whatever , and so he has a record that came out this year called Ends and Begins , and it's so good it is . It's such a fabulous album . I got to listen to it when I was stuck in traffic and it made the drive so much easier and like manageable for me .

Um , just because it was so full of really cool things to listen to and just like the songwriting is really strong , the production is really incredible and he's just like to me , he's like this little gift from the stars or something that keeps on giving .

Stacey Kelleher

He's a star seed . Absolutely .

Lauren

Like him and Iniko .

Mallory

Yeah , both yeah , I would say .

Lauren

Just and like , really just .

Mallory

Such an artist , like , yeah , and every since of the word and you know , obviously , like , as we know , like artists also have teams , but like , just whatever that whole universe of labyrinth is working on together and putting out just curated around itself . Yeah , like it works so incredibly well and it's just I .

I love the sonic landscape on it very much , so that's what I've been listening to , love it . You guys , we've come to our final episode of season three of the liner notes podcast . I cannot believe that it's here . Um , we hope that you all have a very happy holiday season with your loved ones and wherever you are .

Thank you for being a listener of the liner notes podcast . We really mean that from the bottom of our hearts . Um , feel free to use this little break we're going to take to catch up on past episodes and discover some new artists for yourself as well .

And , um , as always , if you want to support the show , one of the best things you can do for us is to follow us on social media and also write a review on Apple podcasts or give us a five star rating , if you feel inclined , on Spotify .

Um , but mostly , just thank you for being here and thank you for listening and thank you for getting through the end of season three with us . Like , it felt like a little bit of a roller coaster ride this year , but um , kind of want to get back in line and do it again , so for sure , oh right , yes and uh , quickly , before we say goodbye .

Lauren

So uh , one of our former guests , gail Taylor , uh , her artist's name is Gail T , as charged . She , uh , yes , gail Gail , we love Gail , we love Gail . Gail has a uh forthcoming project that she's working on called curveballs , and it's a book and a speaking tour .

She uses her music that she's written uh as , and her her lyric videos in part of her keynote speaking .

Mallory

Yeah , which is really yeah , her songs are very inspirational and transformational , yeah , and she's all about reinvention and you know , and , and , and , and creating the life you want .

Lauren

Creating the life you want . Personal development Um , she talks a little bit about addiction and how families can work through that and all of that stuff . Um but all of that to say , she has a kickstarter that she's doing running right now . Right , Through . December 22nd . And you can pre-order for just $10 . Um , but it would just definitely help she's .

She's 100% funded for the initial goal , but she is working hard to to beat that so that she can , um , do some more really amazing things with this project . So if you feel so inclined to check it out , you can head to her website at GailTaylorMusiccom and and I'll put a link to the kickstarter in the show notes as well .

Mallory

So wherever you listened to this episode from , you should be able to kind of just go into the more tab of the description of the episode , and I will put a link towards the top .

Lauren

So then you can . She's just like a lovely light , she's just a joy to , to learn from .

Mallory

Yes , her energy is very infectious and she's she's really fun to be around and she is really , really inspiration , touching people's lives with the work that she's doing .

So , for sure , if you would like to support that , uh , you can learn more about it , or if you're feeling like you need to reinvent yourself and you're yeah , no matter what age you are Dude .

Lauren

I want a copy of the book .

Mallory

I can't wait .

Lauren

Yeah , she retired at 61 and and reinvented herself , so you can do that too .

Mallory

Absolutely . Yes , gail is the poster child , for it's never too late to do what you want . Yep , yeah , for sure . And she . We have an episode with her from season two that you can check out on the podcast if you want to go back and listen . Yeah , all right . Well , I would say we'll be back next week , but we won't .
