On this episode, Lauren continues a conversation with Peter Giuliani, a law firm management consultant with Smock Law Firm Consultants, about how law firms should approach succession planning. In this second of a two-part discussion, Mr. Giuliani explains why succession planning is most needed at smaller law firms. He also reviews an open letter he wrote to the American Bar Association about the seven deadly sins of succession planning. In the letter, he describes two firms he previously worked with – one that executed succession planning successfully and another that struggled with the process. He uses each firm to illustrate what went right and wrong for each and the lessons that can be learned from that.
