So we turned the calendar to the final year of Hulk Hogan. In TNA twenty thirteen, Yes, starts with the January third Impact, where we learned that Austin Ares is the latest to pay off aces and Ates, this time to attack Bobby Rude. I guess the aces and Ates, despite being outlaws and banned from the building, are also for higher by everybody who is a legit to my arrest speaks no fucking sense. Speaking of which, Divon is

in the back with all the girls and they're asking Ken Anderson. Hey, I know you're enjoying yourself, but we need an answer that is here, here, here, you want it. You want to hear him say it. He's someone pretending to be nice and pretending to be having good intentions towards Brooke and respect

for help, but really he's just a snack. Okay, it's it's the ultimate like Hulk was write all along storyline, you know, and he he gets bit in the ass for trusting somebody else. I wonder if really Bully got this opportunity because he used to be named Bubba and Hulk needed a heel to baby to turn on him like the actual Bubba bub Oh. If that's the case,

that's just a whole level. So there's Diva on the sergeant into arms of aass and nights in case you forgot with a TV title anger. So I'm so tired of of it. That's so I'm so tired of black jeans. one by one and said he'd get him early in the clubhouse. Doc changed the door shut, and it takes all day. I mean, I don't know why wrestling companies wwon down don't figure out how to like game a lock so that we don't have time standing still every time these guys have to actually pad lock something. But it's always a process. I don't know why the refs to stay in there and try to not stop him from locking the cage

door shut. Joe is trapped in there, and Joe is jabbing away at both It's Knucks and Devon in there by the way, Joe tries rattling the door. No dice, it's not gonna open. I guess he just can't climb the cage, so he's out of options. He's now trapped Joe dodges, knucks is Larry and hits Devon, tries to facewash and Devon pounces him. Run a nice spot there, sending Joe into orbit. Heels take over.

Devon whispers smack me, and of course he does. Angle, of course, similarly, incapable of climbing the cage, just has to resort to standing there rattling the chain linked door. We want Angle, they chant, Geez, can you guys get these guys an actual match? Yeah? You know, let me rephrase that, you give these guys an actual match, and all they want is Kurt Angle, who's not in the marriage rights.

That's impact, Like, right, yeah, that's that's cool that there's something happening in the ring, But like, what about what's not happening in the ring? Right? Tas calls an exploder souplex a high collar t bone soup plex. Excuse me, that would that be a rugby as opposed to polo soup plex? I mean it's I mean also, I mean the fact they call it a t bone soup plex. It always gets me hungry. Angle finally realizes he can climb the cage. He tries to be Also, by

the way, Joe's Joe for the most part. Here he seems fine without Angle. Business takes care of the needs Angle. Um, it's so funny how Joe like when they run out of like things to like make impact, fans think it still might be the T and A they loved. They just like, go Joe with the mix again. So so sad the position he's in so sad. I mean, this man should be world champion for thirty six months, okay, at least thirty six years. Even This isn't us

going out on a limb. This is us saying, hmmm, when was Tenna doing its best business and receiving its highest critical acclaim when Samoa Joe was on top. and Tess says he's gonna do d hood him. Uh Doc then slams the door into angle, and then um Joe kicks the door out and Doc is knocked backwards. They forced a Bellator three sixty read and there Bellator three sixty being the the recap television show that was coming on after Impact. Oh really, yeah, they right in the middle of all this high drama, Like Todd Kennelly has to just read copy. He doesn't have a name. Don't give him a name, okay, the other guy, the other announce

her idiot. He's idiot, announcer. I never bother to find out his name until you just fucking mentioned it his face. It can't It's fine, it's fine. He's professional. He looks like he's not. He's a fucking He's a fucking doormat this piece of shit. Angele has done the only thing that gives him purpose. Run the razor's right eating here and Impact knox Or is the idiot. Announcer calls him the huge member of Aces and Eights. I think I think it wouldn't that be Devon? That's right? Uh so

divid missed the headbuts off the ropes. All everybody's down in time for Divon. It takes the Germans pretty funny to see Divon like flail in the air with his vest on. Yeah, oh yeah. It makes even like wrestlers crying hard look ridiculous when the outfit, I mean they look, I mean, no no good, no good. Shit has ever come out of people wearing wearing vests and black jeans in the ring for never a right, Like, it's just it's just fucking Disciples of Apocalypse, but a bad one.

And that's saying something just makes yeah exactly, it just seems it just reeks of not trying. Yeah, um, and I'm sorry. I've never gonna be able to watch Ace's Nates again without thinking about the Marine five first and formal. That's right, that's right, Okay. So Taz says it takes a lot to peel off Germans. So that's his verb for what happens at

a German suplex. You peel it a joe with an inverted atomic drop to nuts and then angle hit some of the angle slam one two, three, Kurt angles, Samoa Joe beat the Aces and Eights in the cage, and its promised even these guys lose, that's gonna make them strong. Like why are these guys such a menace? If like every time they get in the

ring, they get their ass handed to him. Yeah, why do they care about winning matches and titles so much if they lose nothing when they lose matches, right, why do they feel like they would gain anything on the other end? And and since like Cogan is the general manager, can he just, um, I don't know, freeze these guys out of matches and off book I understand, can't. Why does he? Right? Why?

Why? Why is there all this lack of power, Like you know, you can't you really can't go to the ring without having permission, you know. Yeah, well they won't access to the impact zone on whatever it was bound for. Doesn't mean they won. They didn't win booking, No, it's true, you know they can Okay, they can come into the building.

Doesn't mean they have to have matches. It's like like they do one angle to explains in a logical thing and then they never reemphasize it, and it goes for like two months, three months, and you're asked to remember some random thing someone said backstage, like that's that's TNA. You know. It's like, yeah, they check the box if you pay very very close attention. But the fact that you still find yourself asking the question means they

didn't really check the box. That they rather, they check the box in the most cynical way possible. Let's let's do this. Can't say we didn't even though it clearly didn't occur to us as a shortcoming in the story when we were sitting down and crafting our story bible or whatever the fuck it is. So angele lewis with the mask, Evon stops and Doc gets in and the rest of the clown car and then empties into the cage. Ken Anderson, dressed like he's going to brunch at ringside, just looks on. We

want sting chance breakout even though he's not there. But there he is with the bat. It's yet another new year. It's another sting return. Yep. He comes intoing the good on January third, No less, Oh yeah, I think he'd done the same date the year before, something quite similar. Um, January fourth was the Hogan he believe, January third, three years after that fateful first Hall Coogan impact. And this is the state of affairs, This is where we're at. Yeah, it doesn't feel like two

steps forward, No, it does not. It feels more like a half step back. Actually, Yeah, yeah, I mean I would it would be it'd be generous to say that they had made a linear step. Yep. So Sting gets in the ring and starts doing those goofy jabs to the gut with that ball batas says, that ball bat, ball bat. And they said he promised he was going to return to take care of Aces and

Nights, and here he is another Sting return. This has been about twenty Sting returns and TNA by this point if you have bat even way before Hogan's arrival. And yes, it was the one three thirteen campaign. Okay, they just can't stop with this. They got all that heat because he's the wrong word. They got all that attention because w WAU was doing the the Undertaker return date promos and people thought it was Sting that WrestleMania, remember that,

just slashing the date on the screen. And now TNA just drives that into the fucking ground. So there's one guy from Aces and Nate's still trapped in there. A bat shot drops him and they they screamed, do it, Kurt, do it? He does take it off. I got this whole thing for you. This is one of the most anti climactic fucking reveals of all time. What the hell face not knocks knocks. I don't know, no knocks, it's a hard knocks life shit. I mean, boss,

this is this is the reveal. Are you not entertained? We've got Luke Gallows and we've gotten Mike Knox so far. I must you know when the business has passed me by, because this big ship and I can't appreciate it. This is one of the biggest problems with this whole storyline. A bunch of people nobody gives a flying fuck about. I mean, like Luke Gallo. That's money to reveal before you launch the storyline. Okay, yeah, exactly you need I mean, for lack of a better term, you

need a third guy. Have the third guy ready and waiting before you fucking launched this ship definitely needs to be somebody you know from outside the company, and I guess Mike Knox and Gallows qualify, but somebody who I mean, you can actually go for the world title. I mean, Luke, Luke Gallows. You know it was fastest and then the fucking you see him punk

oh yeah thing and that was it, like he never did anything. I think at this point it's pretty clear the budget is tapped out that there's not going to be a new you know, pot of two million dollars to fall out of this guy to bring in someone with actual relevance, you know, someone that actually has game changing ability. And so I think that's what we're seeing is because they have to count, this is the best they can do in terms of reveals. I would say these guys are bad pro wrestlers.

I'm not saying it was nothing that they came to TNA, but we as fans are conditioned to expect a certain level of surprise when you do reveals of identities, right, Yeah, and this just so watered down the idea. Right, It's like I never cared about another reveal and TNA again, if the announcers are screaming at the top of their lungs because this is Mike Knox, you know what I mean, it's like the next time they turn not be excited. I'm just not going to go there. Right. That's a

very precious commodity. It is the anticipation fans you know, are allowed to have for big reveals because you delivered. Is it's very important that that it's done right and done well and that you can trust the bookers that when they do a reveal, they know what you think is going to be a big deal. They're not going to try to present you with something as a big deal that you don't feel is so there. It is. M Devon's fuming

that another mask has been lost. Mike Tenay says, they feel their masks are their power, and amidity is power, and they just took the power away from Maces and Eates. I wish they then please keep the fucking masks on. I don't need to see these faces. Impact started twenty thirteen at one point six two million viewers here for this January third episode, which was the best one point six two million viewers, which was the best number they

had done since August of two thousand and twelve. So good start to the year for TNA. The hul Cogan, Brook Hogan and Bully Race segment at the top of the hour was a monster, according to The Observer, gaining four hundred and fifty five thousand viewers to one point three one. Meltzer writes, I can't remember the last time TNA had a segment that brought so many people in, and it's pretty clear that this along with the sting return is

why the rating was up. So Bully Ray has the right to bat himself on the back for this business because he, you know, he stepped into that spot where he's rising to the occasion. No one's really looked at him as justifying this level of like stardom where he has the top storyline in the company and carrying that the load and the mic. Like, if Bully doesn't deliver the nuances on this thing, it's a total disaster. Brooks is also

quite capable, so it's it's showing positive signs. We go to general We got to generally tenth impact where Carl Carl Anderson Ken Anderson explains UM that he joined Aces and Eights because nobody had helped him when he was attacked by them in October. So long term storytelling, I guess you know what, I don't remember it happening so right, And they don't really either. They sort of like put these things in the probably didn't even happen, probably didn't even

happen. Yeah, can either confirmed or deny. I don't think that was a pay per view. We even bothered to look at UM. I would never want I would never buy a pay per view called Ken neither confirm or denied either. You know what I could see TNA naming a show that I really could. It's just a show where Hull Kigan gets deposed two hours. I would watch a two hour Hulk Cogan deposition. Would you sold me?

You know if you told me that Hull Kelgan was going to subject himself to a three hour deposition by someone who investigated every one of the lies he's ever told. Yes, I would buy that for two hundred dollars on paper view. I'm not really kidding. Absolutely, if I could see Hulkogan flutter and be nervous, I would for that for now, to do it for sure.

Yep. So, hey, Terry, if you know, if somehow you get way laid by circumstance, if somehow the big man upstairs see to it that you got to hit some more hardship, that's some money you're leaving on the table. This Impact starts off with Brooke and her golf cart going to talk to her dad and air out the dirty laundry. She says she's on the cell phone, and she says to the camera he's going to listen this time, and she tells the phone Mark, I'm here, or she walks through start

or is it Bubba? I'm pretty sure it's Bubba. Ye, Okay, not a Mark Welcher. No comment. Oh. Later on Impact, here's Joe Parkin and jumps excited. This was tremendous. This is one of the funniest fucking things I've watched this whole goddamn journey. Excited, of course, I'm excited. I've been waiting for this opportunity to training my butt off at OVW. story at TNA. Every time they do something that seems to pop the rating a bit, it goes way down and all they do is continue what apparently had the week before. But they're not good at keeping people. They're not

good at setting the hook. They're just not Yeah, although Taz is setting the red hook as it were, January seventeenth impact a big one here, I would I think I'm prepared to say, unless I lost perspective on what's coming up to the end of twenty thirteen and Hogan's run in TNA, that this is the last Impact of Consequence Ever, this is the last one where it seemed like they had a hot angle and a shot to do, like

a really good rating punch above their weight in terms of doing something that actually resonated and drew new people to the table. They had a new act they were positioning in Bully Ray that might have charted a new course for the company.

Hogan is being used in a different, in my opinion, more effective way, not just as this you know mascot that runs out every every other segment, but somebody who's got personal stakes and his daughter right, a sort of a note he hadn't quite played before ever in wrestling as the dad, and this is it, this is it is it's going to get for them. had me. They had me completely convinced it was a wedding, and I didn't even think about about there being a twist or swerve or or you know, an angle at the end, right, I was just totally into the wedding. And also, honestly, at this point, Aces and Eights was so fucking mid card. Yeah, yeah, you know, way down the pecking older under this this angle, right, you know, I just really

didn't even think they would even make an appearance in this. Yeah, they're like losing matches, They're like concerning themselves with my right knocks it's like staying as fighting them like and just running them out of town, right yep, So it was it was it was a stroke co genius. I mean it didn't it didn't go down that way because it you know, it didn't lead

to much. But on that night, it was like, good for them, actually get you know, they actually delivered something that was memorable and watchable yep, and something you didn't see coming. Where they didn't do it just for the sake of no one will see it coming. They did it in a way that now I want to see what TAZ is about and how that's going to change the you know, the tenor of the announced booth every week

and which it's awful. Yeah, exactly. That's t NA. Anytime they do something effective that shows a little spark of life, the follow up is always so bad that you're just like, Okay, Taz is so worthless, Like I can't get heat on the guy. You can't write that's the thing, like because he yeah, well he's so used to being you know, he's so used to doing commentary and kind of neutral commentary that that's what he does, even except with an occasional aces and eights favoritism right, but he's

like almost like change. He's doing like a mockery of commentary the whole time, which he was doing anyway in a weird way, but he was just making a mockery of commentary exactly. So he doesn't he doesn't like go hard to the side of like I'm just going to be this cheerleader for aces and eights and rule breakers. He's still he's still telling jokes first, you know, right, right, that's bad. But I think you know, they needed a swerve and they needed to twist, and they saw this in him.

This is another I think page out of the book I talked about before where it's like they're doing big angles with people they already have doing something else in the company on payroll, you know, so they don't have to add cost. You know. It's like, how can we deliver a big surprise that having to hire somebody new just about which I don't mind as much. Like it's actually I like the I like that that Taz was doing this. I do too. I think it's again, it's the it's the aftermath,

it's the follow up that just doesn't resonate. Yeah, and that's something I think everyone agrees on. And even like Bully on that eighty three weeks show that he did there a big off and Conrad talks about how it was kind of tough because you couldn't get heat on tasks. I mean, frankly, Taz became an announcer because he was medically disqualified from ever getting touched again because

of the delicate nature of his neck. I mean, it's he goes on the air after this and talks about being teflon Tazz and it's true, like you cannot touch him without being sued. It was well understood and and so they play with that in Nace's Nates, but it's also kind of like a

limiting factor. It's kind of like, well, and it's interesting because you know they had those moments of like subterfuge where you know, Bully, they'll have these moments of subterfuge where Bully comes out and Taz finds a reason to be away from the announced booth after returns on Bully, Yeah, thank you.

That for a couple of weeks, and it's like, wait a minute, if he's teflon Taz, like if nobody can touch him because they're gonna get sued, then why doesn't he just stand there and taunt them with that fact. You know, why does he disappear what he does? But that's that's to come. So what did this what did this angle do? What did this all amount to? One point six zero million viewers identical with two

months? Okay, so I mean sorry, if the bully Brook Wedding isn't going to do the biggest number you've done in years, there's something rotten at the core. You've failed. It's over. The show peaked with the wedding itself at one point eight two million viewers, very respectable, but far cry from the three plus million that Hogan did in his segment for the January fourth, twenty ten debut impact. That was, that was the market opportunity.

Those people, whoever they were, whatever, constituted that bulus of people. You failed to keep them interested. You had them, you know, don't say we couldn't go on the road. They weren't spending money on the tapings. You had them in the impact zone watching maybe one thing. If they never you know what I mean, if they never drew that kind of number. So that's that. We moved to the January twenty fourth Impact. The

top of the show. They showed, but a post footage after the wedding where Brooke is hovering a Bully and holks on the canvas and reaches his hand out and he and Bully actually join hands having been laid out in the ring, and everyone comes out trying to help Hulk out of the ring as they chant Hogan and Bully helped out of their two to dramatic slow music. Pretty

good follow up. They get right to the heart of it next week and yeah, they show Brook backstage covered in a jacket, just horrified by all this, and Joseph Park had come out helping as well. And we started in the announced desk with there's an empty chair where Tas usually sits, like to Nay says. In ten years plus I've been with this company, We've had our sheriff surprising moments, but from a personal standpoint, I've never been

more shocked than I was at the actions of Tas. Quite honestly, Tas, I can not wait to hear what you have to say, And of course they do it immediate jump cut, not let that emotion sink in to all the Aces and Nates in the parking lot clapping like little children on a parade. So if they got buzz for this hot wedding angle, it did not build the rating from the week before, which again in and of itself, was a disappointment considering they did a much higher rating for um Hogan and Bully Ray going face to face kind of for the first time over this whole thing Impact January thirty first again, we're going to the UK every January February now for TNA. They're falling in love with the idea,

as they should. It's a great market for them, with great crowds here there in UK and the Manchester Arena. And it says a hashtag Impact Live instead of Live in the top corner of the screen because they're not quite live, but it's still an episode of Impact Live. And they had that big scrolling marquee above the ring on the scoreboard when they went to the UK and

Magnus comes out on this show. Magnus is going to find himself stepping into the foreground and the who Yeah, well the current Nickoldus remember seeing him rustle a Cody Rhodes at all in now Cody wins the NWA champion Jack Briscoe belt. Oh yeah, as it for his dad looks to the ceiling. Yeah, Nick, nickoldus champ then coming in right, and uh, what's that was it? I don't remember, don't remember what it was a great match? I was, yes, it was fantastic. You say so? And

then we have and he said Mackey James husband as well. I think they actually met right at this point in time in TNA. So they're started pushing him hard and in fact, in the scramble to figure out what to do post Hogan, Agnes is going to become TNA World Heavyweight Champion boss and two what yep, I'll credit to the guy. But that's a jump the Shark moment, if you ask me, distinctly remember it as it sort of coincides

with the realization that Spike is not going to renew TNA. But here he is in the UK, comes out and so this is the groundwork being laid for what that would come to be. Does a promo on Chris Daniels and Kazarian. They talk about him as a potential world champ on the call, and he beats Steven via DQ because you know, again the Aces and Nates keep winning, and then he fends off the Aces and Nates all by himself and this homecoming. So that's a really strong piece of baby face positioning.

There, got a little bit of Bruce Pritchard handywork on that whole thing. Later, Stink tells Bully and Brook he's got a it's a message. He's received a message saying I'll be there. I guess he's talking about from Hogan. Oh yeah, Brook says he's always pulled through, so he always does the right thing. It's about phones, she keeps saying, to try him from my phone. Phone. Yeah, that's right about the phone. Al

arrives and he's on the phone. Bully and Brook come out. They make no bee lane for Tazz this time to spend looking for him last week. You know it's funny, Um, you see you see Brooke. You don't realize how giant Brook is right until you see her next to to to Bubba, because like you see your next to Hogan, you know, you kind of forget the whole dynamic women but right, but then when you see her next to next to Bully, holy shit, she is huge. She insists

on wearing like the tallest heels every week. I know she's got to get to get the shells, got broad shoulders like you got the whole fucking thing. Oh for sure. Absolutely love the fucking Decca like fucking found its way into her. Yeah you can put it that way, you could, Uh, Brook, I love you, very says, And I guess that's my dicka. Huh, the Dicka would actually be fighting it, Sider, depends who you're talking about. They got me suspended, they boo by your dad.

But hope we are family now when we have a condimend and common enemy. Hope that enemy is the Aces and Eights. We got to bury all our problems. Brother, what I need you to lift my suspension? Brook me? Yeah, people can't get you to do Oh the people can't get you to do this. Um, they can't get Holk to do it. Only one man can. And that's the Stinger we want. Hogan chants. Bully gets some chance Sting Sting Sting instead, and the music hits. Sting

comes out a sparkly road. He says, it's good. It feels good now because Sting's part of it. Oh no, I don't have it, but I got news for you, Bully, you're wrong about one thing. I don't think I quite had the stroke to pull Hogan out here, but I know you people do. So forget about the sting chant. He says, let's get a Hogan chant going, and they oblige, and the music hits. The foam fingers go up, the hope many signs in the crowd.

They are still exciting. Wah wa wah wana wah, wah wah waha, wah wa wah wana wah, wah, wah wa wah wah, wah, waa, wah, wah, wah wa wah wah wah waa waa, waa, waa, waa water bah waaah waa, what wana wah wa wah waha wah wah wah wa wow Wanna wah wah wow wan waw waw wana wa wa wow whaa wa wa wa wow wow Wow. Keep going. Just gonna associate it with just like just the stream of things we've had to watch for this jar. Every time I heard that music is because you know, all

we did was watching the Hogan segments for the most bar. It's just that song over and over. Oh, I'm just gonna associate it with such forced enthusiasm, you know, like all right, we gotta you know, we got a Hulk up to get excited about this now, because you just have to keep plowing through this ship. And I'm always going to associate that with

like drudgery. Now that song it's so rough yep. And a year after he had what turned out to be his final professional wrestling match in this country as part of this same tour, Hogan returns here to the UK and red and Yellow with the Hoof stash for the crowd as he walks down the ramp today, says, there's nothing like the reaction to a Hulk Cogan entrance.

Just an example of the worldwide popularity of the Immortal Hulk. Hogan says, I don't care if you're in Mantist, England or Manchester, New Hampshire. The reaction to our impact, General Managers Hult Rogan is always off the charts. Why might just have to say all that? Okay? Bully holds the ropes open for Hogan and he gets a hug from Brook and Hogan and chant

breaks out as the music fades and stings his Hulk. We got a war zone going around here with the aces and eights we're back together in the UK, and so I can't figure out a better place for you to make things right with Bully right here and right now. You know something, sting man, Oh there's a war going on around here at t Anda. Why don't you tell me something I don't know? Brother, with the resting bitch face. Oh totally. But at the end of the day, whether you and

I have been friend or foe, I always do the right thing. As far as this woman right here goes. same place wherey W got started. I guess they're going on the road with taping, So again another thing Bischoff says they didn't ever do and should have done. They actually did, and it's did not work. Going on the road full time with tapings. They've experimented, of course, we've talked during the twenty you know, eleven, twelve, and thirteen, how they went to like Huntsville, Alabama and Knoxville into tapings in the UK as well, And it was it was additive, It was good. It was.

It did add an atmosphere, no question, it made the shows better, but not that you would really notice it, not that it at all reversed the downward ratings momentum for any appreciable length of time with any consistency. So whatever you think having a live crowd would add to the actual bottom line of what Spike is. Looking at the numbers on paper, it's wrong. It's wrong because it turns out, boss, if you don't do a good angle, it doesn't matter if it's in the Impact Zone or if it's before four

thousand people in Knoxville. Yeah, I think I told you that, so Helpless backstage. At the end of the day. What significant about Dixi's announcement day to me is not that they're going on the road, but that they're telling Impact fans, impact Zone regulars to go fuck off. You know, they're now deciding that that's this is the time to do that, I mean seriously, which is which is amazing in its own right. Holk's backstage at the end of the day. He's really not a bad guy, he says,

a bully. We really are the same person. I don't get that all of us staying bullying myself. But when I thought about the way he fought and the beatdown he took for me and my daughter, he's okay in my book. So when I felt what the Stinger felt, I think I got this one too, all right, brother. At the end of the day, At the end of the day, He's really not that one is at it. Of course it is a bad guy. We really are the

same person, all of us, stingerly on myself. But you know what, when I thought about the way he fought and took the beat down for me and my daughter, he's okay in my book. So when I felt and I felt what Stinger felt, I always do the right thing for my family, and polvious now my family, and no matter what happens, we're in this thing together. So I figured I might as well give my son

in law a little wedding present. They let him kill some of the Aces eight guys table match brother, and I know Stinger can follow his lead quite well. That was handy to a child, was the tables right? So I wanted to murder He just repeated everything you just said in the ring. First of all, I know, I know, I love it. I love it. That's that's that's it right there. That's that's the fucking money. Backstage, bisch Off, Garrett bitsch Off, West Briscoe and Ken Anderson

are hovering over um someone Joe Smoll. Joe's on the floor and garat bish office assigned to go grab paramedics and West says, you come with me, and there's a table overturned as Joe was screaming in agony, and Bischoff and the lowest key voice you've ever heard, the least planic tone you've ever heard, says, get a goddamn doctor. Damn it. Wherever he said,

nobody cares to manage expectations. They replay their banging lockdown match where Kurt was about between Kurt and Ken Anderson because Kurt and Ken Anderson about to wrestle on this show, and so we'll just bring up, like, you know, one of those insane matches TNA's had, just to you know, get people appropriately calibrated for what's to come showing you know, Kurt saying, fuck it, he's about to go an entry hiatus and moonsalting off the top of the

cage, and just you know, one of the most preternaturally talented guys ever to step in the ring, a guy who got it to a degree, and it would have speed and efficiency that no one else has ever had in wrestling, And the only way he can get aybody to care is to moonsalt off a cage. Yeah right, that's it. That's what he's good for. Anderson versus Angle, and the only thing it's less electric compared to that first match is well, Anderson's dressed in a vest and a T shirt and

jeans. It's wrong, nice, this would be a great match. He has a white T shirt, by the way, under the vest and baggy jeans in a beanie tast tries to compensation. He looks great. It's all good, it's fantastic. It's entertaining. Kurt Angle comes out with West and a blazer in his corner, doing that cool shot from behind that they did when they went to the UK as they walked through the tunnels. Ken Anderson is still not over that time I beat him in the guarden. No,

Kurt Angle isn't over that time I beat him in the garden. So when I called back there from Tas to a royal rubble two thousand, okay, I mean, I guess that's what and Anderson seizes on Kurt right away. The absolute state of the man at this point. What happened here with with Ken Anderson? Man, Oh my god, because you know it was so weird when we first encountered him in TNH. Right right after the regime arrives, he comes in and they push him strong and he's cutting hot promos.

He's someone off the television that like he he checks more boxes than most and that not only was he big on their TV, he has this kind of like underdog kind of like what could have been right feeling around him. Yeah. Ye, he never got the shake he should have for the charism he has, and here he might actually do it. And then by the but I remember when we were going through it. I'm like, why do I

know it all goes to shit? Because I'm watching this back. I'm like, this guy's got spark, and I couldn't remember like wearing along the line it would get compromised. And now I don't even think about him as a factor in the coin. I know, I remember that's the prevailing feeling that I should have about Ken Anderson and NTNA, that it was a big dud Yep, exactly that's what it was. Now we're a big confronted with failure. Look what he's wearing. For God's sakes, I mean, look what

happened to him. He just fucking he became because at this point he joined the Aces and AIDS at a time when it wasn't beneficial to anybody. Yeah, and he went to that whole goofy storyline where he was like he was taking time off for a concussion, and they made that the storyline, and like Matt Morgan was counseling him, he's basically playing Chris Nowinski. Remember that

whole ass backwards thing. It's so goofy, you know, just let the guy disappear for a little while and come back like anybody else that hurt him. So yeah, again, those vests, those aces and Nate's vests make

them all look like jobbers. Period. It's not a garment befitting a wrestler and reminds me of something market angles and Peril fires back with the missile drop, kick off the middle ropekurd Angle, chanp breaks out, Angle hits the angle slam, and No goes for the angle slam, but it's countered by the rolling samoan drop of ken, Anderson gets to both eat the fence, Angle slam off. Anderson hitting the fence gets to Anderson rakes the eyes and

a clothesline drops card angle. Anderson climbs the cage, Angle goes up, cuts them off. They slug it out up there, Anderson drops and angles crotched on the top rope or the yam bag, as Test puts it. One. Now, that's good for two. Anderson climes, angle, walks up, angle slam off the top rope. That looked awesome. Um, well the crowd thought so too, and they're saying it's awesome. I don't give a shit. They were all about that chant in TNA. Man that

that got to Mike check for Ken Anderson. Yeah, what are you telling yourself when that's when you keep sucking having to say that? Huh? I know it's they're playing their part, you know. That's this is like kind of that earliest example of the crowd not not really reacting organically. But we'll put it this way, if they did react organically, it was hard to tell the difference between that and they're feeling like this is the point in the

show where TNA needs us to chant this. Sure, um. Anderson then climbs kirt, cuts them off, sneaks in, and U power bombs h Anderson off the ropes. That gets two uh, Angle goes to the ankle. Lock West's standing got I gotta say so, so you send me when

you know when when when you send me? Breakdowns of what I need to watch for each episode, all right, and it's from It's from Alvarez, right for the most Yeah, and so you know, after I try not to read what he's said until i've watched it, but then I weeded afterwards. I'm curious about his thoughts and I am absolutely amazed at the amount of shit that he actually likes. Yes, that we've watched, That'll tell you

what. I'd like to watch it week to week over three years instead of you know, in the rapid fire succession over six months like we've been doing it. It's a much different experience because yeah, you know, it's like with the space in between episodes and just comparing how cohesive the storytelling is here to when Russo was in charge, like, you know, because he's you

know, Brian's also reporting on the backstage. He knows that Russo was offering a lot of the stuff, and obviously he had made his decision about whether

Russo was was worth a ship. He wrote the death DCW and basically pinned the whole downfall on him, which I don't think is the wrong call, but uh or at least it's um it's not a totally miss misallocated target, and so yeah, as long as Russo was booking TNA, everything was going to look better by comparison, which I actually don't disagree with, but I

think that's kind of what's going on here. It's it's almost like a cyder of relief for when Impact was just this like pointless series of twists and turns and goofy ask chemmick matches and storylines, and all of a sudden, it's like, oh, well, I mean they are kind of I mean, is that is that really what you're at where what he'd seen is so bad? Yes, that even something that is slightly better is good, and everyone's

patting themselves on the back. Meanwhile, none of the business metrics are going in a direction that indicates, you know that anybody's actually gonna be making more money anytime soon, right, And in fact, less money is coming in terms of budget. So yeah, I mean the retrospect is it all sucks because it doesn't move anything, right, But at the time, it's like, if I got to watch Impact, is this better than last year? Yes? Right? Does it feel like something that is booked with a game

plan in mind? Yes, as opposed to every week is a is a new blank slate, and maybe we'll pay attention to what happened last week. Maybe we won't. It just depends in our prerogative and what way the wind's blowing this week and what we feel like. You know, we'll please the people above us this week, so you know, I'll give them that Hogan's being used more effectively. Sure you know he's not just sort of cutting these

promos about backstage intrigue and politicking. He's involving himself, you know, as a human being in these segments instead of this sort of like mascot. Is the best way I could put it. Yeah, I mean, I'm I don't disagree with you there. It's it's some of the easier watches we've had on TNH, the whole Bully right era. Uh sure, I gets fair. I don't know. I don't know. I mean, we don't have much left in terms of there's not much else that we have to wait to

review here before we can make the call. I mean, what was more watchable throughout the entire body of T and A that we've watched than the Bully Ray stuff? Flair Like I'm talking about like a storyline like Flair did like two almos that were hilarious. That was about it. Yeah, I mean, yeah, I suppose you're right. I mean Watchable is a very we gotta like watch powerful week after week and everything ends up just devoid of life.

Yeah you know, I mean yeah, Like I said, it's like they end up in a place they should have been in the beginning in terms of right launching something right and sink your teeth into because I guess that's part of the problem is that at this point it I don't fucking care. Actually problem the ratings are telling you it's the goose is cooked. If this doesn't work. It's like you stru to see where they can go next, you know, as you already know the limits of their vision and their budget.

So it's good stuff. Yeah, right, So as this is going on again, Anderson climbs, Kurt cuts him off, power bombs him for two big power bombs. There, Angle goes to the ankle lock and then west Briscoe we see suddenly standing on the ramp and and then Angle drops down, scissors the leg and Anderson taps so Kurt Angle beats Ken Anderson here in steel cage. Angle says something on his back like he heard his ribs or something,

which is probably legit injury. He probably came in somewhat hurt. This is another one of those like precursors to Angle taking a hiatus to heal things. Yeah, so the Aces Nates are climbing up the cage and we get no explanation as to why no one could stop it. West unlocked the door, gets in there and look locks it again. The Aces and Nates now enter the cage. West is in there with a key next to Kurt and they take the mask off and mask off. It's it's Garrett bish Off.

Angle looks at West Briscoe like, what the fuck you knew about this? No? No, No. Angle steps forward and West chop blocks him from behind. Tas starts laughing. I love it when a plan comes together. This cage match was a means to an end. Is West takes off his suit jacket to reveal and Aces and Eights vest hits the worst running nee ever

As. These two men As are smart, they get it, they're progressive, they understand where the power is. Okay, announcers to cry all the time Kurt Angle spent with Garrett Bischoff and West Briscoe trying to break them in and teach them the ropes, and all they do is turn on them in this episode of Impact and join the aces of AIDS Boss. Another marquee addition to this mega stable. Another fucking bunch of goof walk again, watch in there, get him tremendous. We're going to react at home. Look at

it. I love it, man, I love it. When the play comes together, we see boys. This cage match, it was just as we really wanted to do. Isolate her, angles and the Holy High A lot of them set up such good stuff. This impacted one point five eight million viewers. As Meltzer noted, the last two weeks of tape shows ended up with higher ratings than almost all the live shows since they started going live. How the fuck can they not do live TV? Can't do it from

the UK? I understand that. Oh yess, that's true. And they were. They were doing Impact live every week. Another thing that people act like they never did that they fucking did. It didn't work or didn't make enough a difference on this episode. That moment with the Hogan and Sting and Bully and Brooke in the ring and Bully getting reinstated was big ratings again.

Four hundred and thirty six thousand viewers over the prior quarter Wow, which according to the Observer, was one of the largest jump segments in TNA history at a one point three eight quarter So, yeah, maybe they got him back. Maybe they set the hook. I would say. Now, yeah, we'll see a betting man knows where to place his wager. There. We moved to the February seventh, twenty thirteen Impact Aces and Eights are out led by the masked VP. He's the only one still masked, by the way.

And now Garrett Bischoff and West Briscoe, fresh into the stable, are in there. And I'm thinking, aren't they supposed to be in trouble for losing their masks? I don't. I thought that was a whole problem as this Tenay should come to the ass Nates meetings to learn what they're doing. Devon Grabs, the mic says, I said ACES Nates would dominate twenty thirteen.

Not only are we dominating, but we're kicking the freaking door right into TNA as they lose match after match after match after match, including the Court Anglican Anderson match that was the precursor to the West brisco Garrett Bischoff reveal it would it be that hard to just have Aces Nates win all the time. I don't know why that wasn't. I just don't understand why it's a problem addressed after what we did last week to Kurt, Devon says, I'm sure

each and every one of you would love to see that again. He pitches to the highlight package and then he says, Ken Anderson, when I told you we had a plan, I was also right. And they're wating the hell out of Devon. They do not want to hear from this man on the mic, but with no further ado, they interview introduced rather the new members of ass Nates Garrett Bischoff and West Briscoe. Bischoff grabs the mic does the hand of the heart like his dad used to do. That's what I'm

talking about. Complete disrespect. So to hell, all of you. You can't wrestle. Chant I think breaks out. He says he's got a new family. It's Aces and Nates. West Briscoe says, you want to know the reason I did this is because of you, Hawk Hogan, Hawk, but you're an answer my phone calls for two years, and then you told me I had to start from the bottom, a brisco on the bottom. They're chanting something out of I can't tell what it is. I wouldn't fucking

answer your phone calls either. You're a horrifying looking individual. Yea, then you want me to throw me in a gut check match and it does this terrible laugh. West is just miserable on the mic, just so bad. He sucks so bad. You forgot something, Hogan, who gave you your first pair of wrestling boots? He says, your memory us to fail you. It was my father. Okay, this is the respect you want to show me. Well with the real hats on my back, that's the ticket

to climb the top of that ladder. I'm not really interested in anything that you have to do, not really. I'd rather you go away. Jerry Briscoe did tell that whole story on Tales from the Territories on Vice about um.

I think he talked about giving Hogan his first pair of wrestling boots, but he certainly talked about, you know, sort of like an outsider's perspective on Hogan coming in and working with Matt Suda on what was and wasn't bullshit there, So sure, Jerry Briscoe's full of shit too, but you know everyone's less full of shit than Home. So I'll take it. I'll fold

it into the mosaic. Yeah, you can't wrestle Chance all over West, I mean yeah, I mean you've been presenting him as someone that barely knows what he's doing in the wrestling ring, and now he's supposed to be like this huge impact player that he's joined the Heel stable. He still can't. Divan says, So if I was you, Kurt Angel, I wouldn't dare think about coming back. TNA say that again, He says, Hogan, you want to pursue us with a tables match. That's fine, surprised us

rather with the tables match. I understand these is and ads are always in a position to have backup. We will always have an ace under our sleeve. Now you can testify to that. Testify. Later on, Tara goes into brook Hogan's office backstage and she's there looking at papers and yeah, during all this, by the way, brook Hogan still knockout in charge. Yeah, I'm right. Let's not forget that she has a job todays administrative duties boss. Right, of course, Tara complains that she's had to fly and

coach over here. She's a power couple, her and Jesse Godders. They shouldn't have to do that. She says, she sounds so petty, so selfish. Do you have any idea what I'm dealing with around here? Tara said she did not get her beauty sleep because of the plane situation, and her muscles haven't recovered, and and she's still wrestling tonight. What about the time zone where we have time zone storylines here this week, she says. For now, Brooks says to Terry, you can go get me a coffee?

Awesome? Does she go to costa package? They talk about? What the hell they talk about? Oh, they're doing them a British boot camp for reality television out there. They had a show called British boot Camp where they found the next TNA star. This is where rock Star Spud comes from, who is a hell of a little personality and a guy who contributed to TNA for years. Also on the show was a Marty Skirl, the future

Marty Skirl and some others. And so we see UM just like a highlight package of this UM significant because Dixie Carter and Cole Coogan figured prom prominently into the show with Hogan, you know, basically serving as like Steve Austin un tough enough, you know, giving his speech to about the business and the

winner gets a contract and all that. Oh yeah, it was the Blossom Twins as well as a Marty Scroll and Rockstar sput and you have Dixie Carter picking spud with Hogan at the desk, so they're doing like a deliberation kind of deal. But this, the show itself, did not here on the United States, but it's something that if you were a fan of TNA back then in the UK, you knew a lot about. Backstage, Bruce Prichard is with Dilo Brown and he says, what's Bruce goes the last person I

would ever expect to do what they did. Dilo agrees. Prichard says, you know, Garrett, after everything everyone has done despite his last name, to make him feel welcome, and then Wes using Kurt to even get us to consider him for the gut check. He said, I've known West since he was a little kid. God forbid when Kurt Angle comes back, because I know it's cliche, but there will be hell to pay. And at the end, of the day. We don't have to look in the mirror

as to who's responsible for him being here. So this is supposed to be like a little bit of you know, Dilo being duplicitous and two faced. Yeah, acting like he was as shocked as anybody that Bischoff and briss COACHOINTI nates seeds being planted, But are they being watered appropriately? Yeah? Right? Are they getting enough sun? Back stage bullies saying they're going to be

chanting? You remember how to do it right? Get the tables. Hogan walks in, Sting says, you guys, work this out, Brook, Maybe you and I need to go this way, and Sting leaves with Brooke. Hogan looks like Bully in the eye, says it's good to see in Law has his head in again. His tailor made for you. This whole table's thing, just the circumstance you want. This is the end tonight. This is all on you to make sure that you can prove to everybody how

wrong I really am. Because nothing would make me happier, Bully Ray, than if you prove to the whole world that you really are the good guy that you say you are. Bullies is good with all the respect, Hulk, I ain't no good guy. Just because I'm good to your daughter doesn't make me a good guy. Meltzer said that rating has to be a big disappointment given the entire show was built around Hulkkegan's first match on television since his TENA debut three years ago and first match overall since the twenty eleven Pound for Glory. They spent the entire show pushing it and then did the injury angle at the end of the show to explain him not being in the main event match. Sorry, Hulkogan is not a draw anymore. Nope, the

TV show. Meltzer wrote built around his first match back in years only drew one point three zero million viewers a few weeks back. This is a him writing in retrospect the TV show after they established he was not going to be on the air during the opening scene, did significantly better. It is now it is now possible to make the case at telling the people Hulk won't be on the show is a bigger rating straw than him being on the show.

Oh my god. And if that lens, you can see that ratings pattern in TNA Man when he goes away for his injury hiatuses and his surgeries, ratings do not go down. They actually go the other way. trace back why Bully Ray got this title shot. It's like one throwaway line on one episode of Impact where Hogan just says it's him and then make a deal out of it. I'm not saying they don't emphasize it, but as the weeks go, they don't. You know, as the weeks go, it becomes like more and more of a distant thing that it almost seemed like they did because they had to force a pivot to Bully, not because the

plan and was Bully you know, yeah, yep. And now it's just about like the Bully Jeff Hardy history, as Bully says, everybody knows about your history, Jeff. routine. Despite being you know, warmly embraced by longtime impact fans on the level of you know, a James Storm or a Bobby Rude or any of those contemporaries, Chris Daniels. But they bring him back and bring him back strong in this position, and he would never sniff that mid card comedy again, at least in TENA. In fact, Eric Young is soon to become TENA World heavyweight champion, if you can believe it. And so this is the Eric Young. Really really, it'll take a while, but he'll get

get his flowers as well. But again we mentioned the TV show he did Meltzer rights. Those internally said that this had been expected. There was incredible internal jealousy within the company regarding Young real named Jeremy Fritz thirty two, because of the success of his television show Off the Hook. Extreme Catches, a comedy fishing show on Animal Planet. The show, which debuted on July twenty nineteen, twenty twelve, rather sorry, was something several and TENA were against,

and the company promoted very little. After the first show was a ratings hit, the company contacted the station and wanted to get involved in cross promotion, an Animal Planet showed no interest. There was no The silly idea for a phishing show was far more successful than shows involving Whole Coogan and Eric Bischoff, and I did very little to promote his show and rarely used him on television from that point except doing the Ray Stevens Absentee Husband Angle. He came
