Face It, You Can’t Afford to Eat

Karel Cast 24-163

A new report is out about how much a family spends to eat in each state in the USA. It ranges from $211 per week, or $844 a month to over $300 a week, or $1200 a month. In CA it’s $297 a week and Nevada $295. What do you do when food costs as much as rent per month? Cut back, that’s what. So, what are you buying these days, and NOT buying. And is there any relief in sight for this?
I’ve spent the last few days in depression, fear, anticipation...looking at various spots in the world I could flee to because of what’s happening in Washington. Is there a very real danger, or do I just need to get more involved in life and ignore what’s going on? The USA is going to swing hard right, but it’s done it before...

Gladiator II is going to dominate the box office. Is this really the time for a film about blood lettings for an emperor and the blood lust of the people?

Well, hello, and a top of the morning to you. It is U oh wrong risk? I changed my risk Thursday, November fourteenth, seven days since I turned sixty two, and I don't look a day over sixty. So very glad you are joining me today. I gotta fix my microphone. I'm sorry when I got something dangling over my head. It needs to be in the right place. Okay, remember that? So should we ever find ourselves in bed to give? All? Right? So,

there's a lot going on in the world. And there's map that was just published that had the average amount people are a family. Uh and if you're not a family, if you're just one person, then of course you know you adjusted. But what an average family spends every week on groceries? The cheapest is Wisconsin. Baby two hundred and eleven dollars a week. The most expensive is Hawaii three hundred and eleven dollars a week, Nevada's two hundred and

ninety two dollars a week. California is two hundred and ninety five dollars a week. No matter how you slice that, though, that's twelve hundred dollars a month. And honey, that's rent. Okay, that's rant. And under Donald Trump, food prices are expected to go up twenty percent. They are already raising them because of these tarists that he's going to impose. So what do you do? What do you do when your food is almost the same price as your rent? Well,

if you're like me, you cut back. You don't buy some of the things that you want, You buy cheaper brands. You make things stretch, and on the upside, you find yourself making a lot more stuff because, for instance, here's it. For instance, mayonnaise, vegan mayonnaise is about eight dollars a jar now or nine. Well, I can make vegan mayonnaise for much less than that. Catchup, just catch up, which is filled with sugar anyway, it's three to five dollars

a bottle. Now I can make it for under two dollars. So what I thought we'd start to do next week is I don't know if it's gonna be every day, but I'm gonna start with the basics. Because groceries are so expensive. I'm going to start to show you how to make some of the staples that you need at home that actually cost you a lot of money, like mayonnaise, ketchup, barbecue sauce, these kinds of things. So starting next week, I am going to have little segments that show you

how to make staples at home. And if I don't get to do them next week, then it'll be the week after. But we're going to start doing it because we all have to start, you know, cutting back. I made a mistake yesterday, and I'm just gonna go on here and tell you what my mistake. That's not a stain, is it? No, that's light? Okay? Making sure I never know, because you know me, I don't really check my my look before I go on. So yesterday I went grocery

shopping with Ember at Albertsons. Well, I'll go over with Ember. I didn't want to shop at Albertson's, but I had my doc's a cycling prescription there, which let's talk about that. We'll talk about a lot today. But my doc's a cycling prescription. My copay is thirty bucks because that's what my cope is for prescriptions. If they give me a three month supply, instead of charging me thirty bucks because it's one prescription, the insurance company charges me ninety bucks

because it's three months worth. Well, guess what. I went on to good our X. And if you're not a good RX member, you should be. I went on to good OURX and got the ninety day supply for thirty nine dollars. Now, I don't know how good our X is able to do that, and I have tried to research it or get a guest from them to come on and tell you how they do this. How on earth could they get a better price than my insurance. But they do. And so that's another thing. I am

using all avenues to save money. And with good OURX, I cut my ninety dollars copay down to forty two dollars or no, I'm sorry, thirty nine dollars. So that was good. So then we were in Albertson's and we thought, okay, we'll just buy stuff here. Strawberries, we're on sale two packages for seven dollars. Blueberries were six ninety nine. They were on sale for three ninety nine. But even three ninety nine, banana a pineapple was three dollars and fifty

cents for one pineapple. A cantalope four dollars and twenty cents. Now, as a vegan, there's not much I can do about the price of fresh fruits and vegetables. I have to pay it. I eat a lot of them. And I just got back, like right now from my primary care annual visit. Had my labs on Monday, all of them in the green went and saw her today and you know, she said, you know, keep it up, keep being a vegan, keep exercising. You know it's working for you, so keep

it up. All of my vitamins are good, Vitamin B, vitamin D, iron, all of that was checked. It's all fine, potassium, magnesium, and she said, so keep it up. And I thought to myself, you know, eating healthy is almost getting to be something for just rich because the processed food over in the frozen section or whatever, the process burritos and the panel design of that's that's not that much. Yes, it's pricey, but it's not you know, exorbitant fruits and vegetables.

Holy crap. It's like you buy a tomato and you want to wear it as a ring because it's like, you know, eight dollars. So we now know that groceries are costing the average American between two and three hundred dollars a week. Now, do you think for a moment that Donald Trump or anyone that he's appointing, whether it's Matt Gates Attorney General or or I don't know who

we have who fucking Donald Duck Secretary of State. I don't know, really, I don't know who they're you know, on Matt Gates, he just resigned from you know, and you know why he resigned from the Congress because tomorrow they were scheduled to release the report that they've been doing since twenty twenty one. That was damning, that was gonna show all the crimes he's committed. And now they

can't because he's no longer a member of Congress. So that report And that's the problem with the fucking Democrats. I know we're talking about food here, but it's all related. It's like, how dare you twenty twenty one. They've been looking into Matt Gates. They finally, you're gonna release the report. Bitches. If it were you or me and it was a criminal investigation of any kind, they'd look into it for thirty minutes immediately and then throw our ass in jail.

It wouldn't take them three years to build a case against us. Donald Trump committed crimes four years ago, now almost five, it'll be five, and they never brought him up on trae. Oh, we've got to investigate. It's got

to be a thorough case. That's why we're in this mess because the Democrats fucked around and found out because they didn't prosecute the criminals right after the crimes, including the members of Congress and the Senate, and they gambled with the election by not making Joe Biden step down. And so here we are just trucking through the muck the mess that they've left. As Alanis Morrissett would say, I'm here to remind you, Ah, the mess you made sends you went away you you you autumn know anyway.

So the average American spending two hundred to three hundred dollars a week on food, So what are you doing. Really, I'd love to see your comments down below at patreon dot com, forward slash Really Carrell, YouTube dot com, forward slash Really Carrell, or in the chatroom at YouTube dot com forward slash really Carrell. What are you doing to cut back on your grocery prices? Farmers' markets are too expensive?

A lot of people are shopping at the ninety nine cent stores and dollar stores, but a they don't have a ton of nutritious food, and be the stuff they have there isn't all that great. So what are you doing? If that's unsustainable and if that's gonna go up? Who in the world today has fifteen hundred dollars a month for food? There are people who make three grand a month period. That's their income two grand a month, four grand a month if you spend in fifteen hundred for

mortgage and another fifteen hundred for food, three grand a month. Right, they're not including bills or carping whatever. You ain't making one hundred thousand dollars of use. Maybe you will. Oh no, I know I ain't, but maybe you will. Otherwise I want to support the Corell cast, then like and subscribe the YouTube videos at the really correl channel. We got ninety new YouTube subscribers in the past month, and we got three new patrons, So I'd like to say welcome to all of you new subscribers. Welcome to all of you new patrons at patreon dot com, Forward slash Reilye Carrell, you keep the show going. Thank you so very much, and welcome. Welcome to anyone that is new trying not to you know, I know where look it says here in the description of my show. I've

spent the last days in depression, fear, anticipation. I just went to the doctor and the only thing we talked about was my mental health. She said, look, for a sixty two year old, physically, you're doing okay. You know, your back's messed up, your neck and yeah, you've got problems, but you're here, she was Mentally, I'm worried about you. SHOs are you feeling depressed? I said, Hell, yes, she said, are you feeling anxious? Anxiety? I said absolutely? Is it

interrupting your sleep? You bet it is. What are you gonna do about it? I said, I honestly don't know. And I know so many of you are right there with me right now to where I'm of one mind that says, back in the day before I paid attention to politics, I didn't know who ran the Pentagon. I didn't know who our secretary of State was, or our secretary of Defense or any of that. I didn't know. By the way, our new secretary of Defense doesn't believe women should be in combat. Oh the things that are

gonna change. But anyway, I didn't know all that. In my thirties and my twenties and subsequently I was fine. And they were horrible. I mean under Reagan, under Bush, these weren't you know, Iran Contra happened. These weren't good people, and yet I just ignored it. I got involved in my business of entertainment and of one mind thinking, well, Chuck, you're not a criminal, So what does the attorney general matter? Well, you know, they could criminalize being gay, and they want to.

They don't just want to repeal same sex marriage. They want to make being trands almost illegal, and they're going to come for the gay marriage, and that's going to cause the rise and hate crimes. It's going to cause less acceptance, not more. They're going to allow businesses to discriminate against gay people. Legally, that's gonna happen. But that was my life growing up, so it's not too much different. And all the other cabinet posts, like what are they

really outside of taking my social security away? What is he really going to do to me? So I'm of that mind like wait and see, Well, keep your condo and hunker down and start getting very busy in entertainment as much as you can. Go out and do live dates, even if they're for ten people. Just have something to do.

Finish your book, which well it's almost finished, you know, finished, Get that out, even if you have to put it out yourself, you know, start writing another one, or write a screenplay or whatever, write more songs, record, start doing gay prides. Just get busier, get busier, and ignore Washington until they come for your income or until they come, you know. So I'm of that mind, just tune out, change the show and all of that. But the other mind that I'm in is America is gonna get worse

and worse, and these these changes are going to last decades. Now. Ava Longoria announced that she has left the dystopian United States and those are her words, dystopian United States. And she is living in Mexico City and in Spain in Barcelona because she's rich. And she even said, so many Americans can't leave like me, I'm so lucky I could go. I've been looking at Merida, Merida, Merita, Mexico. It's on the Yucatan Peninsula. It's about to be hit by a

storm today. But I could buy a condo there for one hundred and forty thousand dollars in the center of town, a beautiful condo. Their cost of living is about sixty percent less than the United States or Nevada. Their healthcare system is world class. They have a lot of gay and lesbian rights there. Cannabis is legal. I've been looking at Spain, Barcelona, Portugal, and I get terrified at the thought of going to those places and living I do. It's like I've never I'm alone. I'm just leaving the

United States, leaving. But a friend of mine said, it's never been your country and I said, what he said, You fought your whole life to gain rights that should have been yours already. If you lived in a country that really he welcomed you, that wanted you, that wanted you and your talents, you wouldn't have had to fight like that. So America has never been your country. You have always been a second class citizen, and now you're both gay and progressive, and that's going to make you

a second class citizen here in this country. So he's like, why would you want to stay in a country that really doesn't want you? Your whole life, you have fought for a place at the table, but you don't like the food they're serving. And I was like, that's powerful. That is powerful, because my whole life, I have fought for a place at the table, but I've never liked the food the US has served. I don't like a country that doesn't value education, that doesn't value wisdom, that

doesn't value common sense. I don't like a country that will completely and totally ignore climate change, and this one, even under Biden, they haven't. They say they've done a lot, but again, a new report came out today that said another year where no major changes were done that are really going to help the client or the climate, which is our client. I guess. So. Yeah. I have fought for a seat at America's table for the longest time

and never really like the food. You know, I'm a vegan and I sit at America's table that wants to feed me beef. And so I've been so torn and I spend the days just stressing about it. All day yesterday contacting Marita looking into Portarearta. I mean, I don't even know if I could afford it, and yet here I'm looking and the notion of having to abandon ship because it literally is sinking. That's so stressful. Knowing that there's so many people that won't be able to that's stressful.

Not knowing what my life would be like, what Ember's life would be like. That's and I'm not saying it's gonna be bad. There is a good quality of life in other countries outside of the United States, in some countries better, but it's that push that final like, well then go. You know, my doctor today said, I encourage you to continue to get busier. Because I gave myself

a year. I thought if in the next like starting in January, if I get busier entertaining and start making some money, and I can bankroll fifty K or one hundred K over the next year through performing. Then I could leave and have about four hundred thousand dollars to go. That's not enough, but it's something. So like you, I've been stressed all day, like I don't know what's going to happen, and some sequently I don't know what I'm

going to do. And then I try not to look at the news, but I see, you know, Matt Gates this or or you know whatever the next Telsey Gabbart that, and it just it eats at me. I'm like, I know what this administration is going to do, and so I fear the future. Well, it's not really good to make a major life change out of fear. I should be doing it because it's good for me. I don't know if it will be. Maybe I'll find work in another country. Maybe once I get somewhere and get incorporated

into the community, I'll find an entertainment opportunity. I can do this podcast from any country in the world that has internet, so I don't have to stop doing the show. But if you're like me, you're spending the days worry and that's not good, not good Trump and doing we're letting him one tent hurt our mecial. I still can't get over the national figures about food and how we just can't afford to eat, you know. I mean, now I see why we're going into debt, why many people are living off credit cards, because you gotta eat, you have to. And now I see why obesity is such a problem. You know, you

can't eat healthy food if you're trying to save money. Yes, beans, lentils, that sort of thing. But even that, you're supposed to eat a lot of nuts, says you know, I do, says the gay man. Nuts are up to ten twelve dollars a pound. Every four months, I buy eight pounds of nuts, and that's a hundred Oh, that's one hundred dollars. I see the picture. I told you I'm having camera issues. Sorry about this, Sorry so sorry. Oh well, you might just have to do a video show, a no video show.

Oh well, I don't know what to do, ladies and gentlemen. Oh well, here we go. We've got a problem and I don't know how to fix it. There we go. I did it. I fixed it. I gotta get a new camera. I keep doing that again. See there's it's like do I spend the money to get a new camera or do I put it away to save to leave the country? I know, you all, it's like groceries. Are you all cutting back so you can save money as an escape plan? You know? I mean, how how

are you doing it? Because I look at what's going on, and I think to myself, people can forward to eat? They gotta pay rent, you know, And now I see why they're putting food on You should never put food on a credit card like ever. You just never should. If you're charging food, it means you're living. You can't afford your life. And with these prices and for stupid stuff toilet paper, when did toilet paper become twenty four dollars for twelve rolls? I'm serious, I'm like, when did

that happen? You know? Are we that full of share? I mean, when did we start paying twenty four dollars for twelve rolls of toilet paper? That's two dollars a roll. Better to use a washcloth. And so we're gonna have to do something. We're gonna have to start cooking more at home, meaning condiments and things. You have to start making them, you know, because just buying them if you go down the aisle and you like salad dressing, it's enormous.

It's expensive because olive oil is through the roof. So now people are starting to turn to avocado oil and other oils because olive oil, which is a great oil for you, twenty five thirty dollars for one bottle, and you can't exactly grow an olive tree and make your own olive oil. So Americans are hurting when it comes to food, and food is not this expensive everywhere else. It is expensive, but it's not this expensive everywhere else

in other countries. In Mexico they're not spending three hundred dollars a week on food. In Ireland, they're not spending three hundred dollars a week on food. But here in America, according to new research, we are. And I just I look around at what's going on. You know, Gladiator two is coming out this weekend. It's going to be a big movie, mainly because the stars are hot. I mean, I'm gonna go see pay Pascal in a little skirt.

But I thought to myself, you know, the gladiators, and that's that blood sport is really part of the worst of humanity, you know, down there fighting, literally fighting for their lives at the behest of an emperor and a cheering crowd, you know, and the crowd rooting for one person to kill another person. I thought, you know, I get it, he Ridley Scott, not really Scott, but you know, they wanted to do a sequel. I get it, I

get it. But I thought, is this the time to have a movie about blood sport, about a dictator an emperor making people fight to the death for amusement, for social stature. I thought, you know, Rome fell for a reason, okay, And I thought to myself, this was all part of the decline of Rome. You know, these games that they built that famous coliseum for, we're blood sports. And I thought to myself, are we haven't like socially progressed. We still want to watch it? We'll just watch it in

a movie. WWF. We've that, you know, ultimate fighting, that's basically the same thing. And I'm like, what is it about us that we haven't bred out the desire to watch two people literally beat each other till one is nearly dead boxing. It's never made sense to me that we enjoy watching other people fight and possibly die. And I know that Gladiator too is just a movie. But UFC isn't just a movie. WWF isn't just a movie. I get it. I'm like, is this really the time

to be emulating blood blood sports? Is this really the time to be emulating Romans and ancient Rome which fell because we are on the precipice of falling. I don't know if y'all realize this or not, but the only way out of Donald Trump might be war, which will bring about the collapse of our economy. And whether it's war from another nation that doesn't like what Marco Rubio, Secretary of State said or did, or whether it's Donald Trump deciding he's going to get he's ready to fire generals.

Their Pentagon is preparing to fire generals, which means he wants people that will do what he says when he says to do it with or without an Act of Congress. Well, that's going to bring about our fall. So here comes a movie that shows what happens when someone's in decline.

You know, they they turn to blood sports. They just like, maybe now is not the time for a Gladiator movie, but we're getting one this weekend and it will make bajillions of dollars, you know, because even though people are screaming about, you know, food prices, they'll still go pay twenty bucks to go to a movie. And good. I mean, I'm in entertainment, so I'm glad people are gonna still go to movies. But at the same time, it's like,

I'll wait for a screener. I haven't been to an actual theater in a while because it is twenty bucks ten bucks if you go during the day and you're a senior, but then you know gas to get there a refreshment, it was twenty bucks. I'm like, oh, nope, that could be a jar of mayonnaise. That could be a jar to me of salad dressing, you know, because literally a jar of salad dressing can be up to nine dollars now. So I don't know that now is

the time for a gladiator too, But why not? Why not just act like we're ancient Rome and you know, we're oblivious to the fact that we're probably gonna fall, you know, so okay, whatever, All right. I would say, it's been a pleasure chatting with you all today in the chat room, but no one was chatting today. People are watching. I can see how many people are watching, but no one's chatting. So either that or my chat room is broken or I can't can't see anybody chatting here.

Let me refresh, just see. Maybe it didn't Maybe YouTube was having an issue. I don't know. Oh, there's a lot of people chatting. YouTube wasn't showing me. Oh well, let's let's address that. The grocery outlet is someplace someone goes but they don't have everything. Yeah, Trump should nominate William chattn or why not because he's Canadian. Foreign countries might have pet quarantine, some do. I've checked. I got

Massimo olive oil for eleven dollars for twenty four ounces. Okay, that's still you know, twenty four I buy the big what is it? One leader bottle soot. I am prel you if you want to be fund on hearty buddy. Sorry, I didn't see you chatters my YouTube with not refreshing. But I see you now, and thank you for being there.
