Jennifer Garland is a Registered Psychotherapist and she is the owner/program director for The Mane Intent. Jennifer offers virtual and in-person psychotherapy and equine-assisted psychotherapy for individuals at a century farm she shares with her husband Chris van den Berg near Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. Since launching The Mane Intent in 2014, Jennifer has completed a Masters in Counselling Psychology and has trained in a wide range of evidence-based trauma therapies. Jennifer’s approach to therapy is evidence- and strengths-based and informed by the neurobiology of stress and trauma.
The Mane Intent also offers trauma-informed programs focused on building resilience. In the presence of our horses, supported by our clinical team, clients aged 7 years and up find a safe and welcoming place to explore the varying dimensions of their personal wellness journey. In 2022, The Mane Intent received a Chamber of Commerce Excellence Award in the Micro Business Category and the Health and Wellness Category. Jennifer is a published author and her story is included in Healing with Horses: Growth and Transformation Through the Way of the Horse (2015 by FEEL Alumni).
Jennifer is an experienced entrepreneur and to her psychotherapy work, she brings 30 years of award-winning corporate communications, change management and community investment experience supporting a variety of clients in corporate, health care and non-profit sectors. Jennifer has provided counsel to senior leaders, building productive relationships, facilitating learning and embracing change.
