Episode description
On the Tuesday No Filter show: First, Joe talks about trash talking again. The Pittsburgh Pirates tried hard to bring back the Pittsburgh/Philly rivalry. They only have one leg to stand on, not the three that I saw from PNC Park this weekend. Joe even had an Atlanta Braves fan in Pittsburgh talking crap about his Braves.
MLB trade deadline passed, and Joe was onto something with Michael Lorenzen coming to the Phillies. Joe likes that trade for the fact that he could be used more than a pitcher if the Phillies wanted to go that route. Joe also enjoyed that the Mets are selling everything. Joe also goes through most of the significant trades of the last three or four days.
Joe isn’t a fan of the kelly green Eagles uniforms, but he thinks if you are going to do a throwback of the color, honor the 1960 or 1980 teams, who at least played for a title, but not the “Buddy Ryan” era uniforms that were “nice” and all, but didn’t bring a chance at a championship. Joe also thinks that midnight green is a unique color, and not a color shared by the New York Jets.
Nathaniel Hackett snapped back at Sean Payton’s comments about his Denver head coaching job last year saying that Payton “broke the code”. Joe just thinks Payton is still in Fox analyst mode. The Super Bowl is coming to Nickelodeon! Well, it’s an alternate telecast for the kids. Joe might DVR that to watch after the fact.
Joe sneaks in some horse racing stories. Turf Paradise may have run its last race, as they will not be opening up in November as they usually do. The post appears to be an obituary, and Joe will have one less thing to watch late afternoons once the baseball regular season is over.
Churchill Downs will run their September meet as planned under the Twin Spires. The investigation that they had with the track leave to nothing significant. But an op ed article did point out about the drugs in horse racing. Joe agrees with that statement, but not much else with the op ed. Joe would rather have EVERYTHING checked out and not just look at one variable.
Bruce Arena might be in trouble in the MLS, as he was placed on leave for insensitive and inappropriate remarks. Joe thinks what happened, but the article didn’t give any clues.
The Pac-12 may have a broadcast deal with Apple. Joe thinks it’s interesting because it will expand the footprint for viewing, but could also be a totally bad decision if the subscriptions aren’t there.
