S2 Ep 27 - No Filter Show 4/11/2023
Apr 12, 2023•1 hr 56 min•Season 2Ep. 27
Episode description
On the Tuesday show, Joe begins with some local Philly college basketball news as Drexel University is now part of the Philadelphia Big Five. The Big Five isn’t a real conference, but it’s an annual round robin event of the five Division I basketball schools (St. Joe’s, Temple, La Salle, Penn and Villanova). Because interest in the Big 5 has waned, the city schools added Drexel to the new format and competition starting this fall. Joe has a wait and see approach on this.
Next Joe talks about the NBA Play-in tourney. Joe likes that Miami lost, which means if they win on Friday, they are in the top half of the draw and not on the Sixers side. Sacramento is in the playoffs for the first time since 2005, and the first time they will be on ABC since 2007 (latter stat per Awful Announcing).
ThePenguinAZ knocked and we review a few different stories. We continue the NBA talk since PAZ is a Lakers fan (but not a Lebron fan). Lakers did make some nice moves with names that aren’t the star players, but they fit the roles they needed to succeed.
Joe then mentioned the Pikkit app, which he uses to track his online wagers. Use code FIELDGOAL7450 once you link your online sportsbook(s) and you will get $3 to $100 for a bonus, and I will as well! Joe reviews the Big 5 news with PAZ, since he missed the beginning of the show. He also mentions the enrollment at Drexel, as it shocked Joe that undergrad enrollment is less than he thought but tuition is ridiculous!
Joe reviews a no-hitter that the Rocket City Trash Pandas had this past weekend. They gave up 7 runs in the 7th and final inning of a minor-league doubleheader game while somehow not giving up a hit.
Then there was a no-hitter in Division II baseball where University of Indianapolis pitcher Brady Ware also hit for the cycle. Not sure if this has happened before, but it’s a crazy achievement that probably will never be achieved again.
Finally, the Milwaukee Brewers are extending last call at their ballpark until the end of the 8th inning since games are being played much more quickly than last year with the new pace of play rules. Joe thinks this is a bad idea, because it only takes one drunk driver to ruin it for everyone if you can trace the driver to a baseball game.
