¶ Introduction to Tipping Culture Wars
No more tips at this bagel shop. This is commentary from James Brown looks like the tipping culture wars have hit Colorado.
¶ Moe's Broadway Bagel's Bold Move
One local bagel shop, Moe's Broadway bagel, has had enough. They're officially ended. All tipping. No more tip jars or suggested tip screw screens at checkout. Peter Sherman, the shops owner, says its about combating tipping fatigue. Customers are just tired of constantly being asked to pay more on top of menu prices, and I cant say I blame them.
¶ The Impact on Employees and Patrons
This move isnt just about the customers though, Sherman says its also about providing their employees with a more stable, livable wage. No more pay, depending on busy days or slow days. Instead, Moe's gave all their workers substantial raises. Seems like a win win, right? While not everyone is thrilled, some patrons complained. They love the tipping system and feel like it rewards good service. They're clearly deranged, I kidde.
But for Americans like me, the constant request for more cash on top of what we paid is getting old.
¶ The Future of Tipping
It'd be interesting to see if this no tipping policy catches on. I hope it does, but I'm not betting on it. But a man can hope, can't he?
