Black motherhood has been scrutinized for centuries. Dating as far back as slavery, black women have dealt with stereotypes involving their sexuality and motherhood. The spectrum of stereotypes ranges from hypersexualized and promiscuous women to asexual beings and abusive and neglectful parents. Host, Shaleah discusses the mammy, jezebel, and matriarch stereotypes as well as media cases involving black mothers being jailed and facing harsh punishments for their parenting missteps.
