Episode description

Have any of your students ever asked, "Why do we need to learn this math?" I'm guessing you've heard that at some point. Today I chat with Fareed Elmasry, math teacher and current recipient of the Teacher of the Year award, and he talks about how to effectively incorporate math into the real world and does a great job of explaining how to do this. In addition, we discuss the importance of building student relationships and how that has tremendously helped student success in his classroom.

Fareed Elmasry has been in education since 2010. He has taught several math classes but has specialized in Geometry and Data Science. As an employee of the Santa Ana Unified School District, Fareed has served not only as a math teacher, but as the Head Boys Basketball coach as well as the Department Chair for Santa Ana High School. He is the most recent recipient of the Teacher of the Year Award for his school, which houses over 110 teachers total. He holds credentials in Foundational Level Math as well as

Administration.
