¶ Intro / Opening
Hi everyone, and welcome to episode 218 of the InKicksWeTrust podcast.
¶ Welcome Back to InKicksWeTrust
I am back with three-fifths of the InKicksWeTrust team. It always confuses me because I never include myself, so I'm like, it's two-fifths. No, I'm here. It's three-fifths. Kev, how's it going? What's going on, everyone? And Rich, how's it going? What's good? It's just going to be the three of us this week. So we had an all-star game over the weekend, so I figure this isn't appropriate.
Yeah or did we i know an all-star game took place there was the festivities were there i don't know there was all-star game festivities taking place in north america over the events that happened they labeled it as all-star yeah.
Yeah so some true releases and of course we have to talk about the debacle that's a game that was a game did either of you watch it i watched it yeah i watched everything i'm sorry i didn't watch friday stuff i didn't watch friday stuff okay so kev has some kev has some okay i've got some i've got some commentary yeah okay that's perfect well i i won't spoil it i'll i'll leave that till we get to it all right let's start with our weekly wears and pick up so kev it's been
sometimes since you've been yeah it's been a while actually it's been a while i do enjoy that we were like we're gonna change it to wednesday and then you were immediately busy for like six wednesdays in a row i'm like oh yeah wednesdays are fine for me yeah i'm like yeah wednesdays work for me it's perfect and then everything just started piling up on wednesdays i'm like this is not really working out the way they had envisioned it but you know at the time when i agreed to it i didn't
anticipate having things pop up like it did but it just yeah it was just one of those things but i'm glad that i'm here now i'm glad that you guys are here i was getting formal listening to the episode so glad that i'm able to join but in terms of the wears. I actually didn't have too many wears considering the amount of time that I haven't been on the episodes, mainly because like the weather I've been like doubling up on stuff and just wearing a lot of stuff because of the weather.
Like my, my, my beaters, I guess you can say. And I mean, it is winter. So now before you continue, Kev, I think we need to set the stage for what kind of weather we had here. Cause we always complain about the weather, but this, this has been particularly bad. Yeah. Like for those that aren't in Toronto or the GTA, we got pummeled with some snow over the last week. And I mean, I've been, I've been wearing like boots pretty much since, since we got our first bit of snow.
But even before that, you know, like there was a couple like wet days and stuff like that too, like really weird weather. But the days that we did have okay weather, I was, you know, I was rocking some stuff, but lots of, lots of boots in between and lots of those like reptile air max one pairs that I like to wear, you know, when it rains and shit like that. So I'll kick it off with, I did wear, oh, so, okay. So I did rock a bunch of times, actually the Air Max one, the six.
I thought that was very fitting for the weather that we had. That was, you know, some, somewhat, um. Yeah, somewhat, you know, like reasonable in terms of like, not like knee deep in snow, but if there was a slush and stuff like that, there was days where we had some slush and some, some kind of like messy weather. I was rocking those Air Max one, the six. So I rocked those.
I rocked another pair that I found was really good for the winters was my air max 95 the hybrids that kanowski did for me so air max 95 neon uppers with this tune celery midsole that pair i broke out the bread one 2016 pair i think trev and i both collectively decided we were going to rock those the day after they had released you know just because juan was saying and shout out to juan too i know he's not on this episode i know he's big ones guy everybody knows that,
but he was saying, he commented, he's like, I've never seen so many, like all of a sudden Jordan one fans ever in my life until now, because the red ones had dropped. So I'm like, you know what? Fuck it. I'm wearing my, my in honor of one, I'm wearing my, my 2016 red one. So that was aware that I wore air max 90 reverse duck camos. I rocked those air max one crap hemp's rock those reptile air max ones.
Brock those a bunch of times. Those craft air force one white air Force One Lowe's, white, I rocked those a bunch of times too. Again, sorry, lots of boot wears too, like I mentioned before. Chicago, SB Dunk Lowe's, I rocked those. And then lastly, I think the only other pair that I had rocked. It was on Friday. Oh yeah, Friday was Valentine's Day. I rocked my Air Max 1 anniversary reds for that day. So those are my wares.
I actually do have one cup. So shout out to Trev too, because I wanted to mention this to him when he had messaged me. So he had messaged me like a couple days ago or over the weekend or something. And he sent me a link to a pair of Vimeros on Courtside. Great price on the Vimeros. Dope colorway too. It was like gray and white. I think I've seen that pair before, but amazing price.
But just like recently before that, I had another low ball bid in on StockX that got accepted, which was actually lower than the previous pair that I bought. So I think I forget when I bought that one. Oh, this one kind of came through like on Boxing Day. Somebody accepted my pair for, sorry, accepted my bid for that other pair that I bought. It was a Dark Stucco, was a Callaway.
But after that one got accepted i remember i had another bid and i actually made it a little bit lower on that one so i got this one even lower than the last one so i think it came up to like.
120 or something like that 125 after taxes and shipping and all that stuff and i was just like i'll just leave this bid in but trev had sent me a post actually for uh some from arrows but i didn't mention to him that last week somebody had accepted my bid and i got another pair so i'll just show that to you.
It's this one here. It's oh, shit. It's, almost sorry you can't really tell in terms of light but it's almost like the other one that i got the other one is more of like a a tan beige like khaki-ish color this one is i don't know if you can see by the is the light but it's this is like a jade so a very light green colorway and it's actually a women's pair i think this one's a women's one but love this colorway super dope just like very like subtle in terms of green but i really like
this one too this one looks this one looks really nice but again i got this one even cheaper than the last one because i kept that lowball bid in and i just like tweaked it a bit because i'm like well somebody accepted my bid i think it was like 90 bucks and i dropped this one to like 75 bucks or something and somebody actually accepted my bids i'm like oh sick after taxes and shipping and the duties and everything i came to like 120 or something like that but anyways yeah i just
happy to be happy to be part of this romero gang now and but unfortunately i haven't been able to rock either of them with the weather, but this is more springtime. I'll probably bust both of them out. Yeah. You don't need to explain the different colors. That's you're in a room full of secret. Three shades different. You need every shade. Totally understand.
It's funny because when I was looking for Vermeeros and, and you know what, you're not the only person to send me like links and posts and all that stuff.
Shout out to the homie, uh, Wendell Swaydell. We always have discussions because he, you know, I told him I'm looking for a pair of Romero's and I think in my like watch list and like bids and all that stuff they're all very similar colorways that I have that I've been on or I have like watched they're like mostly white either gray you know tan or something like that like just very very like light colorways like nothing with you know like I really like the
pair that Tando has so shout out to her that like racer blue but none of mine are like bold you know solid colors they're like you know more like the tans grays you know very subtle spring type ish colors so they're all very you know they all look the same so i imagine if i do have like a romero collection at one point they'll all be like you know how like yeezy was like 50 shades of tan or something like that i feel like that's what that's gonna end up my like romero collection
is gonna look like or something. But these are my sand romero's and these are my light or romero's they are two completely different colors yeah exactly i bet you if i showed like my wife sees both of these colors like what's the difference you know what i mean she's gonna look at it but to me they're different, Everyone in this room and everyone listening to this podcast will completely
understand. They understand. Yeah, exactly. If you're going to talk about it, this is the safe space to talk about it.
¶ Winter Weather Woes
Right. There you go. There you go. I'm glad you understand. Good week, Kev. And just for context for everyone, like, I don't think we can understate how much snow we've got here. Like we have on the ground, right? I think we got 34 centimeters of snow this month and almost all of that came in the last five days. Yeah. Yeah. Insane. We have an insane amount of snow on the roads, on the sidewalks. We probably have about what, three to five feet, depending on where you are
on the, on the sidewalks right now. Like it is, we cannot understate how much snow we have gotten in the last week.
Yeah. And I think, you know what? what when was groundhog day wasn't like the week before that yes and like we never really got much snow and then it was like groundhog day or something and then i think most places that you know i saw at least on the news or something like in the uk and like in north america and like whatever all of them were like six more weeks of winter and then boom the next week after it was like slammed with snow i'm like okay
well fuck you man you know what i mean like i understand that there's going to be six more weeks of snow, but I mean, six more weeks of winter, but you didn't have to do that. You know what I mean? Like I could have done with cold, you know what I mean? That's cold would have been fine. I'm okay with that. I can, I can live, I can live. Yeah.
This, this is not ideal. No, this was not fun. You know, and, and we were, we were, we were living our best lives with like being able to rock sneakers and stuff like that too. And you know, like it's always nice to have like an extended sneaker season because usually gets cut short because of winters. Yeah. But yeah, this was sort of like a reality check. Like, Hey, you know what? It's winter. You better put those sneakers away, man.
Those suede ones. At least I've been rocking some leather ones and ones that I know that won't get ruined easily, but you know. This transition is nicely into my wares, but I've, I, I have not given up the sneakers up until today. Today was the day I was like, I'm wearing boots. Like, this is ridiculous. I can't, I can't keep beating up this Air Max 90 in for a pair because it's now, it's now looking very beat. Like, how, how, how, there's no way you're wearing fucking sneakers,
bro. What are you talking about? Oh, come on. There's no way you're wearing Crocs to shovel snow, but here we are. I was just going to say, you're criticizing, Trev. On his sneakers. I was just going to ask you. What did you shovel in the last night? No, no. I wore boots. No, no. I wore boots. Did you? Did you? Crocs got put up. Crocs got put up. Crocs got put up. I'm not that brave. Now, keep in mind. I considered it, though. I considered it. Don't get me wrong. I considered it.
So, I didn't go into work. Thursday was our first big snowstorm. I didn't go into work that day. The day after, I wore the Air Max. I'm like, oh, they will have cleared most of the snow by this time. It's been like 36 hours since it like stopped. Like they must've cleared all of it. No, they, they had, they, they had for the most part, but it wasn't great. And then I wore them again on Tuesday because Monday was a holiday for us.
And same thing. So today on Wednesday, I was like, no, I need to wear boots. This is ridiculous. You know what it is too though, Trev, sorry to interrupt. It's not like, okay. So Friday I told you I wore the Air Max one anniversary reds. Not an ideal sneaker to wear if it's like snowing, but I was going to say you
were living dangerously with it. Yeah, so, I had shoveled my driveway, but I literally walked from my house to my car and then get to the restaurant and the restaurant, you know, was clear too.
So I was confident that it wasn't, it wasn't going to get ruined, but the, where the issue lies is when it's, when it's wet and it's kind of like messy, it's when you're getting back into your car after walking through the parking lot or whatever, and you got to like, like smack the, the, the snow off your shoes. Right. Because most people are not getting into their car with like slush and stuff on their shoes and then bringing it into their car.
Like, at least I don't like to do that. So you kind of like tap your feet together. And that's when I'm like, shit, what am I doing now? Do I just bring the snow into the car or, you know? So I do that because, yes, I don't want to bring snow into the car. But the problem is that I keep getting in and out of the car at multiple places. Right. So you're doing it many times. Yeah. So I've just decided it's going to be boots for the next little bit.
I've been getting away with wearing ankle socks and I'm like, cool, I don't have to put my big heavy socks on. No, we're done with that. You're done with that. We've decided. You've accepted reality now. It's winter. Yeah, I get it. I'm still hanging on to the fact that last winter, I golfed in February and March. That's not happening. I love this year.
It's looking like playing on Easter weekend, which is usually opening weekend for me is is in question at this point so at least not in at least not in at least not in Canada right like at least not in Toronto yeah yeah definitely yeah if you're traveling sure but you're not myself for that somewhere you're not you're not playing golf locally let's just put it that way no no no no well I mean it was nice that courses were open I'm like
oh you know like maybe they'll be open again in March maybe you know depending on February weather no no no I don't know. Okay, so pickups. Sorry, where? So Air Max 90 infrared all through the snow. I should really find those Air Jordan 3 infrared 23s. That's probably a much better snowshoe. Yes, definitely. Anyways, that's a whole other issue. I also wore Air Max 1 the 6th. We had a retirement party at work, which was at one of my co-workers' houses, but he lives kind of in the country.
So like i figured he wasn't going to be plowed and shoveled out there as nicely as it might have been so i was like this would be nice air jordan won breads on the day of the bread release, same thing i was like kevin was wearing his one was wearing his i'm like all right i'm gonna bring mine out also busted out the kd4 galaxies nice nike flyknit one which is a running shoe, i didn't want i'm in blues i i would find the link but this is not my laptop so you,
you know what you know when you google it i can google it this is this is i'm on a mac right now so you know when you're like you had to teach your parents how to like use a computer man i this is how this is how this is how i feel using this computer. Yeah, so the Flyknit one was one of the Flyknit. Yep. Yeah, so it was one of the shoes. It came out with the Flyknit Racers, but this was more of like a running shoe.
It had the Lunar midsole, so I had the blue and Volt pair that I wore a couple times in the gym. Air Max 97 Skeptas in the snow. My sister gave me a ton of shit for that. She's like, Trevor, do you see the weather out here? Why are you wearing sneakers? I'm like, I always wear sneakers. Like, it's what I do.
It's like, do you not know me? you know how this works right yeah and for the super bowl air max 90 eagles because of course had to do that no pickups for me this week we actually my sister and i we we got my my dad a new set of golf clubs for we're gonna do for like father's day and his birthday this year so we went half on that so that's does he golf he does yeah oh he does okay yeah so he's currently he's been playing the same set of irons for my entire life. Oh, shit.
And they were given to him by his dad, so weird. They are probably 40 years old. Like, woods are actually made out of wood or something like that? He doesn't have any of those in his bag, but yes. Yes, the woods would have been made out of wood for that set. I'm positive.
¶ Family Gifts and Plans
Iron's actually made out of forged iron or something like from the media medieval time you know i could not believe the face of them and for people who don't golf just think of it like any appliance right your dishwasher your washing machine your fridge you know if you had a fridge 40 years ago and it was still running it would probably work but would it be as energy efficient as one that you bought new probably not same thing with you know washer dryer yeah wouldn't
have the same features and had like we were functioning yeah no absolutely yeah so my friend my friend works at uh at the golf one of the uh the golf places up here so we'll be able to like we got to get him into a bay we got to get him like we got to get the whole experience of like going and hitting a bunch of clubs and seeing what he liked so yeah yeah that's what we uh we picked him up over the weekend nice good present i was
just gonna ask like it can't be a surprise because you know it's very it's very like a personal thing like golf clubs very personal things so we just told them we were gonna do it were like me to scare like you'll get you'll get to swing a bunch of clubs and kind of see what you, what you like so it's a great gift maybe you guys will be able to golf in june or something, maybe who knows we might have to wait till july at this point. Nice. That was my week. Rich, what about you?
Oh, man. Yeah, the snow just threw a wrench in a lot of my shit. Let me go back and see what I wore. One of my pickups, I did wear that a few times. The Metallic 5. I wore... Now, before you keep going, Rich, did you have to get into any physical, altercations to get that shit? Nah, man. I didn't have to throw any hints for those tracks.
I can't believe that man yo fucking nuts man yeah I'll get it when I go to my pickups part I'll talk about that but that is funny though yeah Jordans are back let's just say that, I wore the more up tempos that ambush pair yeah where are those, Jordan 1's lost and found Wu-Tang Dunks what else did i wear i wore the the nike trainer that was a pickup i had a few months ago uh it's that i think it's a valentine day colorway it's like it looks like the the bacon theramax 90 bacon that color
on a color color scheme wore those and then the air force ones the rake guns is another pair that i've been wearing quite a bit and yeah that's pretty much it and then yeah like with the snow it's just honestly i'm just i'm over it oh black cement threes i wore those two that's another one but yeah i'm kind of over the snow man because i just hate it like wearing a boot to work and then having to swap it out it's just it's fucking
i want to walk off the house with like the sneakers on my feet i don't want to have to like put on a boot get to work change them and then especially if i gotta run out like and then i gotta take off my fucking boots and put this you know take my sneakers off put the boots back on like it's just bro there's one day i had to do this shit twice i'm.
You know what i mean the good thing is though is that keeps the sneakers kind of clean because it's just wear from inside right so a little little dust and they're good to go on the bottoms but yeah those are my wears as i mentioned pick up metallic fives shout out shout out to the homie uh captivated souls he actually put in a slot for me on the footlock he actually hit for me, and then i was like you know what let me you know the the morning of the release i was like You know what?
I'll pop into the mall to try my luck and see if I can get a pair or whatever. So I'll get to Foot Locker. There's a decent-sized line. I'm not super huge, but a good amount. I was kind of skeptical. I'm like, I don't know if I'm going to get a pair, man. And to your point, Trev, no, there was no fights. Everyone was real cordial. We're in Canada here, so we don't do that out here. Let me correct. I'm not going to say that. The line I was in, we didn't do that.
But as most of y'all know, yeah, like, just seeing all of the fights and shit, and I'm just, it just took me back, man. I'm just, yo, Jordans are back. Like, when you see motherfuckers out there fighting, like, fist fighting over some J's, like, over some sneakers, that shit is crazy, man. But entertaining, too. It is quite funny, just, I couldn't see myself doing something like that. It's not that serious. I don't know if it's the old man in me now. It's just, it's a pair of tennis shoes, man.
Like, I'm not fighting nobody over it. even at the height of it bro like i never yeah that's what i was just gonna say like even in the days like we're lining up yeah like i'm not fighting over some sneakers man like it's not that fucking serious so just to see people kind of getting back to the getting back to the basics with it it's just that shit was wild man some of the videos i see out there i'm like holy shit man my dudes is really going to have metallic fives like 2016 yeah no hate
to that yeah no no hate to the shoe but like of everything that was coming out in that time frame we were fighting over the metallic fives yeah i was shocked i was shocked man like that that was the pair but you know what jordan brand did a great job of hyping it up i think i think they did a really good job of getting people interested and as we know tax season right it's one of those tax shoes the tack shoes was that one we had it was that jordan 12 shit a
few years back it was that tack shoe as well that prices were fucking crazy on them was it like the cool one or the no so it was a black it was a black pair no it was a black pair fuck i can't remember the name of it no it was like all black 12 oh masters masters there it is yeah masters yeah those are one of those tax shoes that came out. I think it jumped around tax season as well. And they were kind of, they're reselling for a pretty penny.
They were up there. I kind of got those vibes with the metallics. But yeah, I think the tax season has something to do with it as well. I know a lot of people were saying that it was tax time and people got the money. And I feel, like I said, I think Jordan Brand just did really good in roping people in. With that shoe, just hyping it up. But it was just crazy to kind of see the fights and shit. I'm thinking, I said, people got, some people I shot, stabbed. And I was just like, it's insane.
I was just like, what the fuck, man? Like crazy, man. So that's when I knew, that's what I said. When I seen that, I was like, yeah, it's, I said, Jordan's are back. When I seen though, though, that, you know, that fuckery, I was like, yeah, it's coming back. So yeah, the line was good.
Foot Locker salute to them. They had quite a bit of Paris too. so yeah i was just talking to a bunch of the guys in front of me and you know ended up getting a pair which i was pretty pretty surprised but yeah i got a pair locally and then yeah i guess i shot out to me tom and then i just helped out uh the dude denim hurts uh hit him up said yo i got a size 10 tom hit so you know grab those and those are gone and they're reselling
too i think they're going for about 400 450 which is crazy really nice shoot but obviously we're at the point guys I was like, yeah, I'm not paying resale like for these things, like not doing it. It was, yeah. I mean like surprisingly it's reselling. Like I didn't think it was going to be that crazy, but if you did some work, you would be able to get a pair so that you could fight you on stuff. You know what I mean? Like, yeah, it's, it's not a pair that you would have to pay resale for.
I feel like it was pretty readily available if you tried, but like you said, they, they did, they did good in the, in the hyping up of that particular pair.
They did. I mean, the pair actually looks great too. so it is it is like it's a really it's a really nice pair it's a really nice pair new buck is great don't know if i'm a fan of the night gear on the heel because it is just a reflective it's not like the stitch like we don't really get don't know how i feel but it's not a huge deal breaker for me but all in all like they look really good and then just kind of the 3m hits they did like the outline yeah i like that too.
The white laces, it actually looks good with the white laces. We've always rocked black with the, you know, black metallic, metallic fives with the black laces. But honestly, with those three M hits, I think it just makes the white laces, the white laces make it pop more. And I actually like the white laces. I don't think I'm going to go with the black. I know there's some people saying they're going to swap it out, but I think the white laces work, man.
Yeah, I agree. I agree. And you know what? It's funny because like with the re-imagine series too, a lot of people kind of switched up when the loss and founds came out. Like it was always, people were always like black laces on Chicago ones always like never changed. But when those loss of balance came out, people changed them to the white or the cream ones that like the pair. And you know, I, I actually thought it looked a lot better with that.
Same thing with these black metallics. We always wore them with the black laces. They always looked super clean with black laces. Even though Jordan wore them with the white laces, it's like they released them laced with the white laces. And I think it looks better.
Like it looks better 100 like 100 looks better man just just gives that pop to the shoe but yeah yeah they did a really good job on it might be gonna lie i'm not gonna hold you but yeah in terms of the resale like no like you said kevin if you put in the work actually got out of your fucking bed like you could have got a pair no problem so for the people that got to pay resale that's on you but yeah i was able to get those
so you know was excited about that so yeah just crazy to see like the set the fights and stuff like when i got home and i was like on social media and i was like people are fighting and fucking i was just like did i miss something.
Yeah like what's going on gr wasn't this a gr like i'm like i just i just walked into the store and got up here man and went went back home you guys are fighting over them but yeah jordan brand did a really good job in terms of that so yeah did grab those grab this honestly this year's gonna be a problem i'm not gonna lie here's gonna be it's gonna be a problem it's gonna be a problem another pair i got i posted this one so you guys are familiar with it but i ended up picking up
the black so which we we talked about a few months ago because yeah because i didn't plan on that because i did get that satin period but for me like the more i've seen them and. The details and shit like that. I was just like, you know what? Maybe I need to. Greatest marketing company in the world. Yeah, man. So I ended up scooping. They got you. Ended up. Yeah, they got me, Trev. I'm not even going to lie. Got them.
I still don't know how I feel about the air. That was my next question for you. Yeah, not a huge deal breaker. Like, I don't wear. Go ahead, Kevin. Actually, give me the question. No, I was just going to say, like, a lot of people were hating on it when the pictures released. They were supposed to release last year.
People were hating on it. lots of comments saying you know that aired like why did they go with the wings logo and then i feel like a lot of people still copped them like they just went out and they grabbed them like they didn't change they didn't keep that same energy you know what i mean bro they did a did a really good job but i'm not a huge deal breaker for me as i've told most of you guys and you guys know i don't really wear jordan ones with shorts it's not my thing so if
i'm wearing the jeans like you're not even going to fucking see it like honestly so sorry not a huge deal breaker so yeah the air and then you can't see it on that but it had this is where like the initialing is yeah yeah my very best or something yeah and i guess jordan had signed their the that original shoe so i guess they put put that on there that signature but yeah like i love you know the little aged midsole. Did a really good job. And then I know they originally have the white tongue.
I actually prefer it with the black. I had the New Love, Ola New Love pack, which actually the black toe had the black tongue on that particular pair. So to me, it's really no different. Cool thing what they said they did, like the tongue, they kind of aged it. Where you can see kind of the. Kind of like the see-through. Yeah. You know, the tongue when it wears, like it has like kind of that brown behind it. So I thought that was a cool touch.
Yeah, that was a cool touch that they did on them. But no, it did a really good job on them, man. Really solid shoe. This is another one too. Just walked into JD Sports and just fucking picked them up, man. Like I've told everybody, if you want to get into Jordans, do it now, is what I would say. Because a couple of years ago, like we all know what the Jordan ones were. You were, you were probably fighting over those, you know? So. Oh, the black toes, especially. I remember even the kid sizes.
You can like, kid sizes were like, kid sizes were reselling for like four, four 50, 500 for kid sizes. Kid sizes. And the box for me is just. Oh, the box is dope. I really like it. The box is fucking dope, man. And that's the thing for me, like, I don't mind that Air Jordan logo. It's not the wings because it pays homage to that photo. And I think that's a nice touch that they did that. It makes it more like has more of a story behind it with that.
I think everyone's used to seeing the wings logo and we're used to it. It's almost kind of like the low patent and high patent kind of thing. People ended up, you know, kind of, you know, growing on them or whatever the case was, they did, they were complaining at first, but then people were still buying it. So they kind of accepted it afterwards. You know what I mean? 100%.
Yeah. I think sometimes like the, the changes And I love what they're, you know, what this re-imagined series, like for me, it's super dope because we bought these pairs how many times? You know what I mean? We bought these, you know, the... The Bread 3s, the White Cement 3s, Black Toes, like all of everything they've done in the Reimagined series, like we've had them before. So to get that same classic shoe with the twist, to me, is something new for us.
You know, we bought so many pairs. It's like, how many times are we going to buy that Metallic 5? So, you know, give us something new, fresh. That's what I love about the series. It just gives us an opportunity to have these classic pairs that we enjoy, but with, you know, some differences. So I'm all for the re-imagined series. I think they really did a really good job with them. I mean, I just love the details and stuff that they're doing,
especially with that, that black toe one. It's like, you know, he took a sample pair and gave it to us essentially. Right. Exactly. Exactly. And that's the thing. Like the storylines make sense. You know what I mean? Like with the re-imagined series, the storylines make sense. It has something to do with what was done in the past or sorry, how they were in the past.
And they kind of brought it to the forefront. Right. A lot of these, maybe the newer generation of sneaker collectors or enthusiasts, they kind of know about it, but it's like this kind of like just brings it more to the forefront, the history part of everything. And that's kind of like what we always, you know, you know, we always kind of want people to understand is like the history. And this kind of brings that out, right? Full circle. No, definitely introduces it to a next generation, right?
Like in terms of, you know, what we came up on. um and then at the same time for us we're able to enjoy the pairs because now we're getting those classic shoes you know with a twist so for me the reimagined series is probably something that i truly appreciate and i'm glad that they've done it man it's given us an opportunity to get back those pairs man like you know you can never have you know enough black cement threes like i'm sorry or white cement threes like you know what
i mean like you just could never have enough of those so to be able to get them back and just like in different iterations of it and you know whether There's the original shape, you know, the specs and, you know, just different materials and shit like that. Like, for me, I'm all in. So, it's just nice. And then to factor in that, like, you could actually get them. Like, you know what I mean? Like, we're not really... Not really going, you know, having to jump through hula hoops.
That's how I always say to get these pairs. But, yeah, so Metallic Fives and Black Toe Ones, man. So, you know, definitely a nice, the last two weeks have been pretty good in terms of those. And it's a crazy year, man. Like, I'm just, I'm getting a bit of anxiety because Flu Game 12 is in cool grade nines. I'm just like, oh, my God. It's only just begun. And Trev, it's only started, you know, Steel 10s with the toe cap. I'm like, fuck, I'm just like, oh my gosh, man. I'm just, yeah.
Neon 95s. You better gas up that snowblower and start charging people to do their driveways. I'm going to have to start, man. Make some extra 2025 Jordan money. You know the kids don't want to do that, right? So you get that old hustle out. You just go door to door and be like, hey, you know, what's inflation? 50 bucks, man. 50 bucks. Hey, I would have paid that, man. I would have paid that, Rich. 50 bucks, man. I know. $50, man. I'll take care of you.
But yeah, like this, and I always say like in terms of the retiring and horse, or I would say like really slowing down the buying, but I'm be honest with you, man, like what they're giving us like this year, like honestly, like if I get what I want, I really don't need to, in terms of Jordans, like there really isn't anything else I need to get. Like they're literally giving us everything, like the cream of the crop this year.
So for me, it's like i'd be okay if i got what i wanted from what's dropping and not having to get another you know iteration of it to be honest with you so it's exciting at the same time right like for me it's almost like an end game like in terms of what i want and just enjoy these pairs now like and to get them so kind of looking at that too you know we're getting up there in age man like you know what i'm saying if i get these pairs now like
i don't need to cop them 10 years i'm 50 51 I don't need to. Don't need him again you know what I'm saying so that's kind of where for me it's like, You're going to be rocking Ons now, Rich. I might, man. That's what you want to start transitioning to, Balance Ons, A6. I've seen that collab with Kith. It has begun. I'm telling you, man. I've seen that shit.
So, man, Trev. But, no, real talk. Like, yeah. Like, for me, it's like, yeah, if I could get what I want this year, man, like, there's a lot of that stuff I don't really need again. Like I said, we've had them time and time again. So, for me, with this series and what, you know, Jordan Brand is doing for us and giving us those pairs, like, yeah. You know, I'm all in. So it's cool to see. I agree with you. I think, I think they went all out this year.
It'll be nice to see a lot of these periods. I mean, like we had to wait a long time to get a lot of these pairs and they're releasing them all in the same year. If you think about what's coming out and you know, it's, it's nice to see that, you know, people that want to get into Jordans or want to like start collecting sneakers, they can get all of the classics literally in 2025. If now is their entry point. Yeah.
I think you can't, it doesn't get no better than this case. like it's crazy i remember we had to wait years yeah i remember when i first started collecting i'm like i wanted to have like at least you know one of every jordan from one to maybe 14 or something like that but it was it took time like it took time you know what i mean like now you can get pretty much you know majority of those one to 14 you know this year if you really want to and have good classic og colorways
too at the right great crazy man white seven four is another one that's next up i need those bad boys you know i'm hearing things about the quality and we'll talk about that with the all-star drop you talk about that i don't but i don't care i don't know what you expect what do you expect everyone's gonna know about the quality they said the same thing about the recent blacksmith threes to quality wasn't as good as the 2018 pair or whatever it was but you
know what i mean like you're gonna buy it anyways because it's a classic colorway and for those that want that pair maybe they don't maybe they didn't get the 2018 pair right That's it. I'm beyond it. Like I said, we've had him so many times, man. To me, I'm just, I don't even care anymore. To be honest with you. Give it to us and I get him and I wear him, man. That's what it's about. For sure. But yeah, that's my week, man. So, you know, some good pickups.
¶ All-Star Weekend Insights
Good week. Good pickups too, Rich. Yeah, good pickups. Yes, sir. Right. So 2025 NBA All-Star Game. So I'm going to let Kev go first because he actually watched it. So he probably has. I'm looking at things from 30,000 feet up and I don't have any good things to say. So, Kev, you actually watched majority of the weekend. Let's hear your thoughts. Yeah. So, like, I mean, sorry, I didn't watch the Friday stuff. Friday was Valentine's Day. I'm sure you didn't miss anything.
Exactly. It was like, what, Celebrity Game stuff or something like that? The Celebrity Game. Yeah, I never watched it. Celebrity and the Rising Stars game. Rising Stars, yeah. I did want to watch that, but I missed it, unfortunately. But anyways, I think everyone wants to watch the Saturday and the Sunday events. Saturday was skills competition, three-point, and the dunk, right? Those are always like Saturday.
I always find, like when we talk about all-star, NBA all-star, the Saturday night is, for me, is always the highlight. I always think of that as like the main event. Those are like the fun things. As much as I love, you know, seeing all-stars and leading up to it, like who gets voted in, who gets named as reserves, all that stuff.
The Sunday has always been like relatively boring because even though you have these guys on the same team, you're just waiting for them to do fun dunks, alley-oops and stuff, stuff that you see in the dunk competition anyway. So that's kind of like, you know, without having to play an actual game to see that stuff, you get that with a Saturday. So with that being said, Saturday, the skills competition, very interesting. I think everybody would...
Say that the highlight was the Spurs trying to cheat their way into getting, you know, a better time. I just watched that before we jumped on because I had it on while I was eating dinner. They were replaying it. I was like, that's just like, that's just awful. Exactly. Like, and we just talked about, you know, competition and, you know, the all-star game on Sunday being like not very competitive.
And then you have like professional athletes that are trying to like find a loophole in the, in the rules to get a better time. And you don't mind you that that was smart thinking. I mean, essentially, if you think about it, you don't really need to make the shot. You just have to take the shot, right? Like the making the shot actually doesn't matter, which I think is kind of stupid, but to make no, like, you know, like make no effort in it, make like no obvious effort is just really stupid.
It just takes away from, you know, the, the, the, the, what's the word I'm trying to use? The integrity of the actual competition. You know what I mean? Like, I feel like people are watching it because they want to see the skills of Wemby, for example, a guy of his size, his athleticism to be able to do a skills competition. You don't normally see guys like that doing skills competition. Normally it's like point guards, you know, like guards, small guys,
you know, things like that. Like a Steve Nash would be like the perfect prime example of somebody would do a skills competition, but you get a guy like Wemby, Chris Paul, exactly. Chris Paul is one of those guys and you have him just basically throwing away part of the competition. So that kind of irked me. The skills competition was, you know, it's something that they've introduced that's new in the last years. Whatever it was, it's not something that they've always had.
And then, you know, things like they didn't have it this year, but like, you know, the way they paired up with the WNBA players and things like that, they always try to switch up the Saturday, make it a little bit more interesting. But I mean, I thought that was kind of interesting at first just to see them kind of try to cheat their way in. Ended up Cleveland team won, but that wasn't, you know, the main part.
The three-point competition also kind of lackluster. I think everyone really wanted Dame to win and he didn't even make it past the first round. So it was kind of disappointing, but it was, you know, one of those things where, you know, Steph Curry's not in it anymore, right? Like Klay Thompson's not in it anymore. Like all those guys that we kind of grew to love in terms of three-point shooters weren't really there. So you have these new guys that are kind of coming in.
Dame, I mean, Dame's not new, but you know, you're rooting for him because you wanted to see the three-peat of any champion in those skills competitions. And they've added all these extra things in now too, where, sorry, the all money ball rack is not new, but it's relatively new, but they've got this like, they got this Sprite Starry ball now, which is worth three points. So those are an extra two shots that are a little bit further than the three-point line.
So it makes the competition a little bit more, Or I don't know, like they try to get it, make it so it's a lot closer. Like even if you miss a whole rack, you can get a three, the starry three ball or something to sort of make up for half of an entire rack, essentially, if you got that shot. So it was kind of fun to see. But Tyler hero ended up winning that comp that competition, which is nice. I think, you know, I, I always want to see a new champion to be honest.
Like I know everyone was rooting to see a three because it's like something that is like historic, but it was nice to see a guy like Tyler hero. Who's, I don't know. Is he considered like a three point specialist? I mean, he's, he's a good, maybe not specialist, but he's, he's a good shooter. Yeah. He's a good shooter. He's a shooter. He's a shooter for sure. I wasn't surprised that he won because he does shoot. But I thought Davion.
Would have at least got because he didn't get past the first round. Yeah, he didn't get past the first round. I'm always used to just seeing three-point specialists. You know what I mean? And I feel like a lot of the guys that were in the competition, they're good three-point shooters, but I don't feel like they're known for three-pointers.
You know, the Ray Allen days and the Steph Curry days. And, you know, like all these guys that are just like, they're known for being a three point shoot, three point shooters. And they're in the history books being like the top three point made players. Like those days are kind of gone. So you have guys that are kind of entering these competitions that are known to be good shooters, but they're not three point specialists. So that was kind of disappointing to see.
I mean, maybe, I don't know, it's. The younger generation? I think it also leads to just where the NBA is today, right? Everyone's a shooter. Right, yes. That's a good point. And that's, you know, I have lots of bad things to say about the All-Star Weekend, but the three-point contest, I've kind of, like, after Steph Curry, everyone is a shooter. Yeah. So I think that's just a factor of everyone's a shooter now. So it's like where you talk about, like, three-point specialists.
So like we had Jason Capono on the Raptors at one point. Yeah. Steve, Steve Novak, I think was in the, the three point. Steve Novak. Yeah. Paige Jostovacovic. I don't think he was on the, in the three points for us, but I know he was. Yeah. When he was in Sacramento or something. I think it was Sacramento. Yeah. And he won. He won as well. He won the three point competition. Like those guys were specialists. Like their job on the floor was to come out and shoot three pointers,
whether they were starting or coming off the bench. That was their role. Everyone is a shooter now. Like, everyone from one to five shoots the ball, right? And the same thing coming off the bench. So I think that kind of is where that's, that's where I felt like the three point competition lacks now, but that's, that's just a factor of where the game is gone. Right. But anyway, sorry, sorry to cut you. No, no, it's like, I mean, you made some good points too.
I think, you know, the NBA, the, the, the modern NBA, you know, you have guys like, you know, Carl Anthony Towns, you know, he's like right now i think in the nba he's he's got the highest three-point field goal percentage and he's like essentially he's like a four or five yeah which you'd never see in in in in our era right like when we were growing up uh it was just kind of weird to see like i would never see a center taking a three-point shot
like they wouldn't even attempt a three-point shot now you've got guys that are literally like wemby is it is a great three-point shooter zingis yeah Embiid, Djokic, Anthony Davis. And it's crazy to look at that because, like you said, Kev, especially for our generation, Trev's a little bit younger, but us growing up and watching basketball, bro, like, I mean, Trev, you've probably seen it too.
I grew up with Shaq. Like, I grew up watching Shaq. So, like, you know, but, like, still that, like, that dominant center in the lane, right? Yeah, we just never grew up seeing that. You know what I'm saying? Like, when dudes was big like that, they was in the paint doing damage.
You know what I mean? they wasn't fucking at a three-point line shooting yeah like we you know we had like i said three point shooters your reggie millers you know your steve kerr like we we had our guys ray allen of course like you know in the latter part of his career too like we had those guys that were known to be shooters when we played you know our nba lives and fuck nba jam we knew like when we're picking our guys like all right we have this guy
he's a shooter this guy's the dunker like that's just what it was so like now you see it and i think it's it trickles into the all-star you know the weekend now where it kind of fucks us up because when you see these guys now and it's like this motherfucker's in a three-point contest like and we had the time where you had the you know the clay thompson and incurry and those shooters like dudes who were like known shooters
and i think that's kind of a switch now which to me is just crazy because yeah just because you can shoot don't mean like you're like kev said a specialist yeah you know i mean ray allen was a specialist yeah and that's the thing like don't get me wrong i like the fact that there's diversity now like you're getting a big man it's almost nice to see it's like.
When you think back to, and I had this conversation with somebody before, like if you think back to the old school UFC days, you had like, you know, like this big fat guy going against this little small guy or something, you know what I mean? It was kind of, the novelty, it was almost like Bloodsport, like the movie Bloodsport, like you kind of had this like mismatch of things. So it was kind of cool to see difference in positions playing against each other in this type of competition.
So the diversity is great, but it takes away from the competition because a guy like when you have, let's just say you had a competition with Steph Curry, Ray Allen, Reggie Miller, you know, like all through, like the competition, just the bar goes way up and that you're there to see three-point shooting, not to see the novelty of Jokic shooting three-pointers against Steph Curry.
You know what I mean? Like it, you're kind of rooting for Jokic to win because you know Steph Curry's the better three-point shooter. But if you have Steph Curry versus, let's say like a Reggie Miller or something in the finals against each other, you know that's going to be like a battle, like an actual three point shooter. A shootout. Exactly, an actual shootout.
So that was kind of disappointing. I think, you know, year after year it kind of just gets progressively worse in terms of NBA or you expect a lot and it just doesn't live up to it. And the dunk competition was no different. Like you have these rare moments where you have dunk competitions that stand out. Like, I think in all of the dunk competitions in all of history, there's only maybe like, I think five or six that really stand out as, you know, top dunk competitions of all time.
The most recent one, I think being the, the, the one in Toronto with, with Aaron Gordon and Zach Levine. And Levine. 50, 50, 50 is like, you know, then there was like all these eras where. It was all about novelty and props, but with the exception of McClung, who brought out a car. So this year's dunk competition was trash. It was absolute garbage. The guys that I find that they get in the dunk competitions, they are great in-game dunkers. Great, stylish, and powerful, explosive in-game dunkers.
But it doesn't translate to entertainment dunk competition dunkers, you know, and you have guys in the eras that, you know, or sorry, those six, whatever, those six specific dunk competitions that were actual showman stylistic dunkers that made those competitions great. Whereas here, McClung was the only one. So you're essentially just waiting for him to dunk because the other guys took like five, six tries to do a dunk.
They wouldn't even finish the dunk that they were originally attempting to do. And when they did do a dunk, it was something that was like, just like, I don't want to say I could do it, but anybody in the NBA could do that dunk, right? It makes nothing, it was nothing special.
So essentially you're just waiting to see what McClung does because he's kind of taken that entertainment value of dunk competitions and kept that consistency because people want to come and they want to see something they've never seen before. Right. Back in the days, like those Jordan dunk competitions, the Dominic Wilkins dunk competitions, Spud Webb dunk competitions, Vince dunk competitions, like they weren't anything. Extraordinary. Like, if you think about it, like some of those dunks.
Windmill dunks, 360 dunks, free throw line dunks, nothing crazy to be quite honest, but at the time you've never seen anything like that before. So you can do those dunks. Like Zach Levine did a free throw line dunk, but he just didn't do a free throw line dunk. He did a windmill free throw dunk. He did a fucking East Bay free throw dunk. Like who Vince Carter did a two handed free throw dunk.
Like for jordan to do a double pump free throw dunk back when he did it and won the competition everyone was going nuts because people could barely do just like a fly through the air soaring dunk because it's actually very hard to jump that far and dunk but to do a two-handed one is crazy when vince did it and then to upgrade that to zach levine windmill dunk to east bay free throw like you want to see something that you haven't seen before right and i think with the dunk competition this year.
Shout out to Matt McClub because he actually kind of took that entertainment aspect and continued with it to do a lot of things that people never seen before. And he three-peated which I think a lot of people wanted to see. That's crazy. And shatters that whole white man can't jump. That motherfucking can jump. That motherfucking can jump, man. Because it wasn't even just the props. It was the fact that you could still see the athleticism.
Absolutely even even and i think that's what made his dunk so great is that you could see the. Athleticism through those dunks right even with the props like to jump over the fucking car it was like when when he got the ball it almost gave him another spring like when he when he grabbed the ball from dude i was like what the fuck like i seen that shit i was just like yo i was like, that's fucking insane yeah he just cleared a car tall guy yeah he's not a super
tall guy He just cleared a car. Yeah. He cleared a car. And not like fucking Blake Griffin run of the car. The hood, like jumped over the hood, the side of the car. He jumped over the roof of the car. He jumped over the roof and caught the ball from someone. Who was sticking his head out of the sunroof. So he had to jump like even higher. So anyways, like... The Saturday night has never been amazing except for that 2016 year, which I actually had the privilege of being in attendance for.
So it was amazing. That's crazy. It's always a gamble for Saturday night, right? And to be able to be in attendance for that and get an actual great three-point competition and a great dunk competition, ones that were historically probably one of the best, it's always nice.
¶ Closing Thoughts on the NBA
But every year, the NBA, you're just kind of like.
You know, they announce who's going to be the dunkers and you're like who the fuck is this guy first of all the second of all you're like you see their highlights you're like whoa this guy could dunk okay you see their highlights you see their in-game dunks and then you're like will this translate to like a dunk competition because dunk competition is not you crowning somebody you know who's you know trying to draw a charge or something like an anthony edwards poster dunk this
is like a you know you're trying to do something that's you know like a like entertainment value you know you're trying to like wow the crowd with something that's never been seen before so i didn't i didn't really care too much for the saturday night it was kind of you know lackluster the sunday i was thinking okay they changed the format now we're gonna expect something a little bit better horrendous i thought it was the worst fucking all-star game format and
i think rich alluded to this earlier but shout out to draymond green because when i was watching them talk about it and they're like draymond what do you think and he was just like what do you give it a one to ten and he's like what ten is the best like zero and they're like what they're all surprised and he's like that was like he was like essentially said that was garbage he was like yeah and he made great points too first of all.
You know when you go to when you have all-star games there's all these records you know most assists in a game you know most points in a game you know like all these other things and now with the new format these guys don't get an opportunity to do that because you're literally only playing up to 40 so you know like i think one of the things that i i laughed at actually like one of the commentators was like you know we have the the shacks
ogs playing next and you know who's gonna get you know who's gonna be who's gonna be i don't know who's gonna, I forget what he said. It was, it was so funny. It was like, who's going to shine or something in this. And he's like, or who's going to get the most points or something. And he was like, only up to 40 though, or something, because you can't get 50 points now that you can't, it's impossible because your team can only get 40.
So he's like, you know, you can get a record if it's only up to 40. Right. So he made a lot of great points. And after watching it too, on the plus side, you know, you do get guys that wouldn't normally get a lot of minutes in an all-star game to get that shine, you know, like the rising stars team, they won their way into this all-star game.
Those guys, if they were on or they were actually announced as all-star players, they would get maybe like a minute or two because everyone wants to see the top players, right? Like the, the, the, the global almost essentially players, right? Like you want to see the guys that got the most votes. They want to see them get the most minutes, but a guy like Zach Eadie is going to get like, you know, a minute or two.
He'll check into of the game just out of you know respect but then they'll literally take them out because they want to see you know all the the superstars play together and there was a little bit more competition i think with this sort of format i think guys took a little bit more seriously i saw a bunch of free throws which you never see see guys actually play defense things like that but you know again it was just i didn't like the fact that you know you just literally
played to 40 and it was like a tournament style. And, you know, if your team loses, then they're out and that's pretty much it for that team. Right. So I hope that they change it back to the original East West. East versus West, man. Yeah. East versus West. Like that. The way that they did it before where, you know, you played the four quarters and then the last quarter you had to get first team to 24, I think.
Made for a little bit more competitive feel. But I think essentially like, you know, guys want to see, you know, Giannis playing with, you know, like, you know, the other superstars that are in the East and, you know, they want to see all the superstars out of the West playing with the superstars in the West. So, yeah. I mean, you don't really want guys to go out there and play as if they're playing an actual regular season or playoff game because you don't want them to get hurt.
But the fans want to see them, you know, do something spectacular, break certain records, you know, do things like that, which you don't get with this format of NBA All-Stars. So that was my thoughts. I thought it was interesting that they changed it. But until I saw the actual All-Star game, I was like, no, this is not it, man. This is not the way that it should go.
¶ All-Star Game Format Changes
I'm going to just say the all-star game they need to go back east versus west, and call it a fucking day east versus west what about the drafting though do you agree with the whole drafting it should go votes, I don't like the drafting thing it should be voted Draymond made a great point. No knock to the rising stars you guys should not be playing an all-star game.
That's earned And like when we back in, I hate to sound like the old man, man, but like back in the day, like I said, like your, your bid was to play an all-star game. You know what I'm saying? Like when you're through, through your season. Your goal was, that was end game. Right. I want to, I want to be able to play an all-star based on my accolades from that season. Like I'm gunning to try to get out of the, you know, a little bit from the football. You know what I'm saying?
That's an accomplishment. Yeah. It's an accomplishment. That's an accomplishment. like i'm even if even if i'm i'm coming off the bench like yo like i'm playing in an all-star now i'm playing with all these superstars from my conference like that's what it was like so this bullshit they're giving us now like i'm not for it like take it back to what it was east versus west and let's get and it was competitive like these dudes is playing in the fucking
like like you say i know these don't want to get hurt but like they was playing they were actually playing like i want to see you know jordan playing with whoever from his conference that i wouldn't normally see these dudes be playing against each other now they're playing with each other you know what i'm saying so like that's what i wanted to see you know shack the one fucking i don't know whoever and fucking ollie you and you know peyton throwing
this dude and ollie you like you know what i'm saying just like just like that's what we bro like that shit was the best i just remember as a kid watching that it was like a fucking dream team like in terms of like that conference to see that collective of guys playing together it was just like i remember it's like a kid in the candy store just watching that because you didn't see it these guys were competitors right like yeah throughout the year and to see them playing
together and actually playing like they were fucking playing to win. It's a feeling like I said like you know for this generation of kids like for them to be able to see that trust me I think if they got that, They'd be like, this is what we want. So to Draymond's point, I agree. The rising star guys, you got to earn that, man. What are y'all doing? They should not be playing with all-stars. No. They're trying to make it interesting, right? That's the reason they're doing
it. And I agree. I don't think I'm with you. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, man. But it is. Some dumb shit. They always try to do some dumb shit. Don't fix it. But the problem is, you're right. It did work. And this is to my point about the All-Star Game is, I'll give you a great example. I had a Facebook memory come up this 10 years ago today. It was Valentine's Day. Other people's plans. It's a couple that are sitting at dinner, you know, having a nice time.
My Valentine's Day plans. It was a guy sitting on the couch, feet up, hands behind his head, watching the NBA All-Star Game. Yeah. Like, the All-Star Game was a thing. It was huge. It was like, it was the main thing you wanted to do that weekend. You wanted to see the whole thing. I never loved the Rising Stars game, but a cool thing to have on, right? The dunk contest and all the stuff that would go around on Saturday, like that was always entertaining, right?
The Chris Paul and Wemby thing, like, I know Chris Paul was trying to win, but it's like... That's bullshit. That's bullshit, bro. What happens if they actually allowed what he was doing? Oh, then everyone else just throws the ball away. Yeah. If they see them get away with it, they're doing it. It goes on a dream. That's what I'm talking about. The integrity is lost. Yeah. So I think it was Bill Simmons. I saw an Instagram reel about this. He was talking about how they have to fix it.
First of all, if you want the... There's got to be competition in the game. Period. There's like... We're trying all these different things. If anyone's seen what the NHL did with the Four Nations Cup... Yeah. Like...
So much better than anything they had going on at the all-star game right like so starting with sunday it's got to be competitive so there has to be something that was worth it bill simmons mentioned something where you can only be an all-star if your team is in the top five of each conference so you go back to east and west and then you're playing for home court in the nba finals they do that for baseball yeah right but but because it's only top five now you're going okay I have a chance right
like because if you're in the top five depending on how the season finishes off you're in that ballpark of I could get there right so now you're motivated to play because you're motivated to play you're actually going to get a decent product or and there's there's a bunch of ways to do that but if the players aren't committed to buying into that and going in and playing hard because you're right when we used to watch all-star games it was Yeah,
there was there was an aspect of, you know, maybe there isn't as much defense played as in a regular NBA game. But like, I think the last like 2016 Kev, you were at the Sunday game, right? Yep. Kobe and LeBron is like full of guarding them and Drake's ruining the picture clapping. But you know.
¶ Dunk Contest Disappointment
That's what that's what i want to see like i want to see because i'm sorry was it lebron had the ball and kobe was guarding him because i think kobe kobe was guarding him locked him down like yeah like i want to see that like that's what i want to see like i don't want to see these like, bs teams like you could if you want to mix up the teams fine mix them up i don't care that much but the product wasn't better when you did that so don't go don't
go backwards on something that's not working right so you need a more competitive product the saturday i could do away personally with a three-point contest because kind of as we talked about like everyone is a shooter now so yeah it's not as special as it used to be or the skills competition because i just find like it's a weird mix of people and especially that cp3 was trying to cheat in that i'm like come on like like because if he got away with that everyone would
have done it and i'm like okay you you can't do this anymore like this this is completely done i would love to see a game of horse horse is good yeah that's great too competitive nobody really gets hurt in that you know what i mean yep because that could be just like that could be steph curry just you know sinking shots behind his back or like you know throwing it between whatever like there's there's a yeah there's a bunch of things there's lots of creativity but there's
still competition yes the dunk contest if you are not going to have your stars in the league so i'm talking ja morant anthony edwards who am i missing like if you if those guys do not want to participate in the dunk yannis even yannis.
Lebron lebron if these guys do not want to participate in the dunk contest it's done mac mcclung very impressive that he won the dunk contest three years in a row yeah every ja morant anthony edwards lebron james should all be ashamed of themselves because Mack McClung is not even an NBA player. No, it's in the G League. What was the thing that I saw? He's won three NBA dunk competitions, played three actual... Played three NBA games.
Played only three NBA games. Yeah. And then they said he's made more money off the dunk contest than he has in his salary. Which is fucking nuts. Which is nuts. Impressive accomplishment. He's a fantastic dunker. Not taking that away from him. If your guys in the NBA don't want to participate, why are we doing this? Like, point blank. Yeah, I agree. I think people wanted LeBron to be in it for the longest time. He just never did it. And I don't understand why he doesn't do it. Like, I get it.
NBA All-Star Weekend for a guy like LeBron, I'm sure is...
Jam-packed from the beginning to end you know he's probably tired he wants to take time to be with his family wants to spend time to enjoy the festivities whatever but you're in the nba because of the fans so why don't you do it for the fans you know what i mean and sure at this point in year 22 i get it like you know and and like obviously he sat out the game which again oh yeah i wouldn't expect to do it now but in his prime i feel like he should have been at least three
or four dunk competitions yes personally yes you know like jordan was in dunk competitions Dominique was in dunk competitions. Fucking the Spud Web dunk competitions. Remember that shit? Like, yo, those dunk competitions were amazing. And even the guys that were in the dunk competition that weren't the stars, they were also motivated because of the fact that they were with the stars. They knew that the dunk, the Saturday night was one of the most watched events of the entire weekend.
So to be a part of that is almost like an honor. they're coming out and they're competing and they want to be able to dethrone guys like you know or not dethrone but just they want to be able to be you know you know have the spotlight over these guys right yeah 100 so we yeah we need like they've got to have people actually in my opinion however they do it like if it's you know what bill simmons said or whatever like the top five teams you pick
eight guys from each league each division east and west and then you have them play and you know if you want to do like six seven eight makes up a team or whatever whatever like you you've got to find a way to make it competitive where guys are actually going to try because that's the problem right the product I think that's the keyword and the common denominator is competition like everyone still wants like I want to be entertained but I want to see.
To be competitive. That's the main thing. Like, like you said, Trev before, you know, you have guys in previous all-star games that they're not trying to hurt each other. They're not trying to like, whatever. Like if a guy is, is, has an open lane, they're not going to play defense and try to stop him and block him. They'll let him do his, you know, highlight reel dunk. But when a guy is just dribbling the ball up the court, don't let him just walk through.
You know what I mean? Like, I want you to stand in front of them.
¶ Rising Stars and Competitive Spirit
I want you to apply some pressure. I want you to feel like your team should want to win. Not who's going to be the next guy to throw the next fancy alley-oop dunk. It's not one of those things. I want to see them try to beat the other team. You don't have to be as physical as you do in a regular season game or a playoff game, but I want to see you try to stop them from scoring.
Yep, 100%. I couldn't agree. So like, and, and that, that's just like, I didn't watch anything this weekend and I didn't, you didn't, yeah, you didn't miss anything. I always watch it just because it's one of those things that like, I, I enjoy just, you know, seeing the, the, the, the new generation, the talent that's out there, what the changes were.
I was very curious to see what the changes were, but you know, in the end it was more disappointment than anything because, you know, as a fan, you're thinking, why did you change this? Like you shouldn't have changed it. it'd be interesting to see the change, but it was more of a fail than it was a success.
So hopefully, you know, they take a little bit more time to think about, you know, what works, maybe ask some fans, maybe ask the players, think of some, you know, different things to motivate them to play a little bit more competitive. It could be monetary. It could be something that deals with, you know, the outcome of who gets home court, things like that.
Like gotta be something that motivates them competitively because these guys at the end of the day they're all professional athletes they all want to win if they know nothing's on the line they're not going to want to do that okay yep 100 and that's like and for me it's been three four or five, probably since i probably watched some over covid but it's just like every year you watch the game and it's like the game and even the saturday and it's like.
And that's kind of like why I always hated the NHL all-star weekend stuff because it was just so boring. It's a physical sport. It's a super physical sport. The Pro Bowl, same thing too. I don't want to want, like they changed it to what, flag football or something now? And I get it. Like you'd be a little bit better without hitting. But again, without the competition factor, any sport is not entertaining.
It doesn't matter what sport it is. the flag football has at least made it a little bit more entertaining because they are trying.
Where like obviously football like you are hitting some like there's a hit every play right so it's a little harder to have a competitive game but the flag football they are actually like running routes and they're trying a little bit yeah but the the hockey with the four nations tournament oh i've been watching every one of those canada games at least fantastic crazy but fantastic so hopefully they can translate you know something with nba you know with i don't know
it's it's sorely missed like the all-star game is sorely missed because it's it's not what it used to be and it's it's it just keeps getting worse and worse and worse yeah let's see if they they make some more changes you know for the better of course but yeah i mean aside from the actual festivities you know i think the more interesting conversation if you're if you're you You know, if you're NBA all-star weekend in general fans is always sneakers.
And I think we've mentioned this previously, like, you know, what does Nike have? What do these sneaker companies have? Adidas, Reebok, they all come out because this is kind of like spotlight time. All the celebrities are there. The world is watching, right? This year, I think was incredible in terms of just sneakers. So if you're a fan of sneakers and you're a fan of NBA all-star and you know, just to see what some of these companies do, um. It was definitely a highlight is the sneakers.
So what, what, like, what are some of the things that you guys saw this past weekend that, you know, kind of like blew you away in terms of like the sneakers, either, you know, whether it was a drop or like Lisa's events, things like that. Uh, for me was obviously the, the Jordan drops. I mean, just seeing a lot of the guys getting early access to the pairs. I want to say that great five, that great five looks fucking dope.
The shape like of the shoe too like you can just see from the pictures like the the shape of it was just that's another one too because i was like once i got metallics i'm like ah do i need great fives but then you see the early release and you're like i need the great fives yeah i've just seen it i was just like man i thought that was dope though like that whole concept of of pairs that are are coming out that people who attended that day they got those early pairs so So I thought that was ill.
Because the great fives, they're not going to release until like April or May or something, right? Yeah, they're for some time. That's the thing. Like these pairs, I think they're not coming out for a little bit. So these guys, whoever was out there was able to snag pairs. They got, you know, they got them pretty early. So the White Cement 4 was another one as well. I'm just, yeah, I'm just like, man, I've seen, I'm just like, shit.
Did they do anything special for those drops or was just like, like how did, how did people get their hands on those? I'm not sure what the rollout was for it. I don't know if they had it at a particular location because where was the all-star game this year? Was it? It was in San Francisco.
San Francisco, right? Yeah. Yeah. So I'm not sure if, if there were shops or how that rollout went, which I would imagine there would have been shops or something where a location where people were able to go and purchase these pairs because that sb4 was another one as well, people had access to that that was the blue one yeah that is it a navy blue navy yeah navy right, those look tough those look tough i ain't gonna hold you though the green pair like the original to me i think that's gonna
be the one that's still the best thing yeah yeah i think that's doesn't matter what else they drop i think that that green pair at that original one is gonna be it yeah i'm not sure where people were able to get them get them from like the early pairs but it seemed like whoever you know went out there was able to get them there are a few people that i've seen had posted the pairs uh i think most people were going for the the grape and the white
cement obviously the sb they released that uh was it the rare air jordan four oh the jordan four.
That it was a rare rare pair it's like kind of like pistons but black yeah that that's an up like pistons colorway right yeah i don't know i don't know how i feel about that pair to be honest with you but like cool concept that that was another one as well that that people had access to but yeah i'm not sure like where like if there was a particular shop or who or multiple shops that that released them and then people can go and get them yeah because nike's always
they're always kind of like i don't like they're they they do like special they do like special ways to release it like you know they'll do. What is it like a, like a geo, like a geo location kind of thing. Like you have to be in this area and your app will get a notification or something. And then you can like register. It's almost like a sneakers drop. Let's say for example, like on sneakers, you know, you can enter the, you can enter the drop, but you have to be in that area.
Like only the people within that area will get like a notification for like a drop or something. I think it was something like that. Maybe, I don't know. Yeah. I'm not, I'm not entirely sure. Cause that's okay. So for example, another pair that people had early access to was the union ones. So I know that's another pair that is on a lot of people's radar, but union, they did like a drop where, you know, you had like an early access notification or something on your phone.
If you're in, you know, that, you know, in the San Francisco area or something or, or whatever, they did like a pop-up and people were able to go and get their pair because they were like registered for it. If they were in the area. Yeah. Yeah, I'm looking at, I follow a dude, MJMojo23Dan. I know he's a dude too. He does like a lot of YouTube stuff, older pairs and shit. So I'm going to follow him for a minute. But yeah, he ended up grabbing the white cement floors and the grape.
And he said, yeah, there was an event held, a former Alamenda Naval Air Station. So Jordan Brand, I guess you were able to, it was a free event.
You could register within the Nike app. but that anyone who came down they just needed to stand in line to capture an event wristband and led wristband to purchase early product so you were only allowed yeah you were allowed to select two footwear styles within a green led light popped up on the wristband if you hit the red led you were afforded the opportunity at the nate the navy blue sba jordan 4 so you can check out the stories on the all-star week
25 highlights he said in his profile but yeah it looks like they had events for it so yeah it looks like this one was a wristband based one based based on what wristband you had you could purchase you know two early pairs and then if you had a particular wristband then you had the opportunity to grab that aj4 that sb so yeah it looks like they they really thought this thing out so yeah and you know what i like i like that they kind of took it back to the old older
days of all-star releases right so i remember when all-star game was in new york or Brooklyn or something like that. It was a year that the laser, those laser fours, they were like white with laser. Yeah, the white lasers. The black lasers, yeah. And they did similar stuff like that too, where they had events or they had like, you know, secret drops and things like that where people can get these pairs. But you had to be in the city that the All-Star Game was going on in.
Even when the All-Star Game was in Toronto, we had all these different events and you were able to purchase pairs. is like there was an event at 306, right? The Jordan store. And, you know, we went to one of those and, and we were able to get, people were able to get a bunch of, I think Don C twos dropped. At that, at that point or something, or that, you know, around that time, I think the Duncey to the, the, the tan colorway one.
That's dope. Right. People were able to get those. And I think the wing it twos and twelves were part of that drop that, which weren't supposed to release for another couple of months. So like OVOs. OVOs. Yeah. Tens or twelves. One of the, one or both of them. There was also a pair of like ones as well, like a women's pair of Jordan ones that were like, like the obsidians, but they were, they were patent leather ones. Do you remember that?
Which ones are the Jordan? They were Jordan one highs, but they were a women's colorway and it was all patent and it was like, had Navy and Navy and UNC blue on it. Oh yes. I forget what they're called, but anyways, like that was like a special pair that dropped like that weekend and people were able to grab those. I think what else was there? I forget what was there, but I remember even in Toronto when, when we had all-star game, there was different events throughout the city.
And if you registered to those events, you were able to cop certain pairs. Yeah. Whether it was like, and, and also like even Reebok did something. They did a, they dropped a question that was like, oh yeah. Remember the capsule at capsule?
Yeah. Right. Like, like all these different stores. So I like that, the fact that they kind of went back to that old formula of, you know, rewarding the people that were in the city or traveled for the all-star game, but we're also into sneakers and it kind of built hype around that galaxy foams. I think people got some galaxy foams too. Yeah.
Yeah. Galaxy is another pair there. So, yeah. so it looked like that that jordan the jam fest was that was the the location at that naval space that people they had the event that you were able to get purchase those early pairs uh yeah, so which is pretty dope that they don't think for that and i don't think anybody knew that you know you'd be able to get some of these no i think i think they just thought it was an event yeah it looks like they just thought it was an
event and then they kind of yeah you get there and it's like oh shit i'm able to buy i'm able to buy these pairs i can buy pairs which just adds like, another layer to the lore right of this like you know imagine you go to an event and it's like you just think yo i get to chop it up meet people you know maybe i've connected with and then to get there and find out like oh shit like i could buy pairs that are not coming out for months from now like yeah say less
right and even still like i think we've we've we've mentioned before in previous episodes like all-star weekend used to be the weekend where you get a lot of different. Drops for like an all-star collection, right? Which has kind of, you know, that's gone. Like we don't have that, but they've kind of taken that away, but they've brought back this type of sort of hype, right?
Like nobody's expecting, you know, basketball lines of sneakers because basketball sneakers essentially, you know, they're, I don't want to say they're dead, but like nobody's really checking for basketball sneakers. It's more so like the hype of certain drops that anticipation of certain pairs and using all-star weekend to, to sort of build off of that, like how people would wait for all-star colorway sneakers. Right.
And I, and I feel like they did an amazing job, you know, going back to that and not just like, like, I think Nike and Jordan were, you know, at the top in terms of, you know.
You know, the the the like the news but all these other brands were doing stuff too right like adidas and reebok and whatever like there was something going on like there was a lot of pair like if you're into the adidas stuff there was a lot of did like i think dame dropped a special superstar pair that he's he's not whatever and only available at all-star weekend i was in all i think it was oakland theme because he's yeah oakland or something like that yeah yeah and he's with adidas and
it was a superstar and i think it was like green it had like hits of green on it or something i can't remember i remember seeing but it was an exclusive to that weekend and to whatever event or something that had dropped that like you won't be able to purchase those outside of you know whatever so things like that where it's it's almost like you know builds that whole hype of i remember going to an event during Toronto also weekend and just, talking to people leading up to the event.
Like, do you think they're going to drop sneakers? Do you think they're going to be able to purchase sneakers? Do you think, you know, what are they going to drop? Is there going to be special? Like they did a good job in building that sort of like speculation type of hype again, where nobody really knew what was going to happen. But in the end you were able to buy sneakers and you were able to get some of the sneakers like super early, which I think doesn't happen very often.
100 and i i i definitely like that about it because you know we we we mentioned our gripes about the game itself but i think that like the feeling of like all the sneakers releasing and all the events and not to say that you know previous years haven't had events because they obviously have but like that there was that hype around it because you know growing up like kev i'm sure you all always thought about it like and i mean i think you
talked about it when the all-star game was here right it's like i can't wait for the opportunity like i'd love to go to an all-star game right like it would be like such a fun trip to go for a weekend and then to have it in york city which i'm sure was a very expensive weekend for you as it was for most of us for sure yeah, but like to have it in your city to be able to go to the saturday games this the saturday and sunday game like to go to all the events in the city like all
the sneaker pop-ups and everything like that's what all-star is about like that's the feeling of all-star right absolutely yeah Because I, I experienced an all-star game before it being in Toronto and coincidentally, it was the Orlando all-star game when the galaxy foams originally dropped. I was in Orlando and I remember I was on a flight from Buffalo to Orlando that, that weekend and somebody was rocking the galaxy foams already on the plane that I was on. So I knew like.
It was going to be crazy because I've already saw the sneakers. But when I got there in Orlando, not just the game itself, but there was like, I remember getting, this was back when people used to give out flyers and stuff too. Right. So there was a lot of flyers and you would get flyers for like all-star game after party at, you know, this club and Shaq is going to be there. And whatever, like, I was like, wow, I'm in the city where all these celebrities and stars are.
And all these like famous rappers were going to be at the club clubs on either friday night saturday saturday night sunday night and then it being in my city we had the same sort of thing too like you had all the top clubs nightclubs had their all-star like whatever party going on and nba players were going to be there and your favorite entertainers were going to be there too like you know rappers whatever superstars like everyone was going to be there and was just like.
I mean, I didn't get, I didn't go to any of these, but the opportunity was there and the buzz was there. Like that, like Trev said, that feeling is just sort of there. And it's almost like it's, it almost kind of brings you back to when you were a kid and just wishing that you could attend, you know, the city that the all-star game is going to be in. Right. And to add sneakers on top of that is crazy. It's crazy. Right. Crazy, crazy.
Yeah. Cause in 20, when all-star weekend was in Toronto, shout out to the homie, Kali and Nelly, we hit up a couple of events. So we were, yeah, we were, we were on the ground running, man. So we actually went to an event. I forget who held it, but it was actually when stock X was in its infancy. So that's when stock X was, they were kind of introducing it. And we got to meet Bumby. Right. Yeah. Yeah, man. Bumby is fabulous. Fabulous was there too. I got,
I got pictures with both of them, which is crazy. And for me, I mean, Fab is just, you know, being from the East Coast and just growing up on Fab and to be able to see him in person, to me, was just crazy. And then Bum B as well, like, was just dope. I remember Bum B was wearing the Eminem Forest. Oh, you see? Yeah. And these two guys are big sneaker guys too. Yeah, man.
And I can't remember what Fab was wearing, but yeah, being able to meet Fab and Bum B was just fucking nuts, like, to be able to see those dudes and, you know, get a pic with them. Ewing, actually, the dude who was running Ewing in Toronto when that kind of took off. They had an event as well. Me and Nelly hit up. They had that Ewing they did for the All-Star, the Toronto one as well. So, yeah, just so we were we were moving and shaking to like just just during that.
So it was a it was a great time to just be like you said, Kev, like to see it and then to actually experience it, which is was fucking insane, man. Which is crazy. And do you remember they opened the Jordan store? The Jordan store, the Jordan store to yellow. And do you remember that it was 24 hours for the full weekend?
Like so i remember so i think i had to work a lot that weekend if i remember correctly because they they opened that jordan store and it for people that don't know is it was run by foot locker so they moved a bunch of people out of stores to work in that downtown location at some very weird hours so but i remember going down at like.
11 30 like just because like it was just cool to do right because they were open for 24 hours so it was like i remember going to check it out and being like it's so cool like and they had all these early release pairs and it was like it's such a cool experience right yeah yeah it was almost kind of like it almost felt magical in a sense like you know it didn't feel real like it was it was surreal and you're right it was like 24 hours because i remember i went there at a weird time too.
It was like, yeah, like 1230, like midnight or something. And there was still stars coming in and out of the store, like buying stuff and, you know, people talking about, oh, there's going to be, you know, a drop at this time or something. And people were like lining up at random hours, you know, of the day. And I was lucky at the time I was living downtown. So, and I was working literally just right beside the Jordan store. I was at Young and Carlton, So not that far.
And I was able to during the day, like, you know, during the day on the Fridays and even leading up to all-star weekend, just to go back and forth to see what was happening. And then on the weekends, just going there just to see. And I think there was one time where Jordan was actually at Rio. I was about to say Jordan was there. Yeah. He was there. Yeah. He was there. I remember that. Were you there for that? Or was I there for that?
I wasn't there. I wasn't there for that, but I heard about it. It might've been you. Was I with Utrell?
I was with somebody and we had just missed him. i seem to remember him being there at the same time i was there but i could be wrong about that yeah i remember going there and just missing like people were talking about like yo jordan was here jordan was here i'm like what like literally like 10 minutes before i was there or something so it's wild to see shit like that and you only expect things like that in big in these big cities like you know i i don't like i don't know
how big san francisco is but like you know when you have all-star games like LA, New York, Miami, like whatever, like those types of cities will always have a huge buzz and to have something like that for Toronto and to see that for San Francisco, it was nice to see like just the sneaker like the sneaker world get back to those types of, you know, events and drops and having that buzz because we always talked about just being sneaker guys like what's going to drop?
What are the colorways going to look like? Like, what are the sneakers that the colorway is going to be on? Like, you know, that type of thing. We didn't have that for a long time, I feel like. And, you know, there wasn't that buzz that there was like for the, and I feel like they kind of went above and beyond from previous years to do a lot of the drops that they did. I'm looking crazy. I like it. In terms of sneakers for the all-star game. Very well done.
Very well executed. Like, and I mean, I wasn't there, so I don't, but like from everything that I saw looked very well executed. Like it was exactly what you'd want to see from all-star festivities. Yeah. And even outside of like, and even outside of just like early release, early releases, we saw, you know, new silhouettes too.
¶ Sneaker Highlights from All-Star Weekend
Like she had his new signature sneaker, which what do you have thoughts on that I think they look dope actually I think they look I fucking like I like them I like them that Iverson give me those Iverson vibes yeah shout out to Converse yeah just like them shits is dope them shits is dope I know people are like on the colorway.
Oh like the wheat colorway almost yeah the colorway but I'll take it I think those shits is dope I'm excited to see what other colorways he's going to have an OKC color would look super dope actually like an orange and blue i think they would look fire on that pair me personally but i think you know you can tell just by the way the sneaker looks he had a lot to do with the design of that they're very stylish i think they look really good i that was my first thought is it
it didn't look like a basketball shoe i liked it but that was my first thought is that that's actually not what i expected for a basketball shoe for him yeah like, that because that that felt like a shoe that it was it was more for off court than it was for on court and i think that's why i like them because it has that off that off court appeal like when i looked at them like yo i my the first thing i see like when i've seen him i'm like yo i can see myself wearing those like yeah and he rocked
them for his tunnel his tunnel walk too right where he's wearing the big fur jacket and the big fur bag but then you can see that he's rocking those, his signature sneaker, and it looks good. It looks good with his outfit, off-court, and on court they look dope too like you're right Rich I think the colorway I think I don't know what he was trying to go for with a with a wheat maybe a nod to like I don't know like I just thought Tim's.
Because you know he's worth the Tim's before to the fucking like the glaze looks pair like I'm just like he's probably go with the Tim's look that vibe but I was thinking more of like the LeBron air zoom oh yeah.
Yeah the week up that week colorway yeah you can't grow on with a week colorway too but i was really impressed i'm not going i'm not gonna hold you like when i've seen them like these things look tough right out the gate i was like those are fucking dope like they're dope like i said it gives me that iverson vibe but at the same time with like his little twist on him and i think for a signature shoe like first signature shoe he's definitely
going in the right direction with those and i agree i think he had input in those a lot of input because it that reflects him like you know what i mean like when i see those i'm like yeah i can see that he had a hand in that but i'm excited for those and it's a converse yeah well that's the other thing too when you look at the side profile of it like the design on it it's almost like a a big converse logo but modernized almost almost like very stylistic converse logo so you kind
of have that the nod to the logo but not in it's like you know what is it the chevron star yeah with it yeah it's like a nice little new take on it so i just yeah i think it was just i think it was perfectly executed i'm for it i like them i'm gonna cop them i'm not even gonna lie to you it's definitely yeah i was sold like when i said yeah i'm getting those yeah i'm like i'm getting those man so you know you get excited when you see stuff like
that right it's different it's it's i'm not gonna say innovative but obviously like just in terms of like. It just, yeah, like it just, it's, well, yeah, innovative. I'll go with that. It's, it just, yeah, it's, it's a breath of fresh air is what it was for me. Like I seen those, I'm just like, man, like, and I'm a sucker for like the shroud, right? The zipper, like kind of that cover on the shoes. I was sold like when I seen it, it was just really excited.
Like, you know, you get excited when, when you see stuff like that. And, you know, I think that's a great segue into that pair that the homemade Wale was rocking because he was, he was kind of setting shit off yeah with with the it was called the gt future the gt future yeah yeah is what they call it he was rocking like an orange colorway right he did an orange colorway yeah it kind of reminded me like a basketball kind of like yeah yeah because it was like
a an or not i guess not like maybe not a basketball but it was yeah it was like an orange colorway and then he had a copper that he rocked because yeah i think he did like a performance in When I seen the copper shit, because the orange one, I was already like, oh, shit. I'm like, these look, these are fucking dope. You know, and for him, I love the fact that he wore shorts. So you could see the shoe. Shout out to the homie Wale. Wale know what he's doing.
Wale wore shorts so you could see all the details of that shoe. And then that copper pair, because I think he did a performance. And then when I seen the copper, I was like, man, listen. Yeah.
Yeah i'm like nike nike got one with this and i think wale salute to wale and you know even with nike too just because you know for years you know wale with the phone posits and you know what he's kind of champion that i love the fact that they they allowed him to debut like that pair because i think that's what sent it over like for everybody the fact that he was rocking that shit because i think if it was anybody else i don't think it would have got the reception that it did i think the fact
that if anyone can pull off a sneaker like a foam posit looking sneaker wale wale for sure you know what i mean and i think i saw somewhere where i thought and i thought it was it was almost spot on was they said that that sneaker was like the love child of a foam posit and a hyperflight hyperflight yep and i was like that's exactly nailed it yeah well.
The hyperflight i remember those in high school as soon as i seen this shoe that's what i was i'm it looks like a fucking hyperflight yeah a phone positive hyperflight was like my first thoughts when i seen that and it was like it was beautiful with a touch of like with a touch of the the tim duncan foam there you go right almost that kind of look too with that with that sort of spiny i don't know like yeah crazy bro just yeah like yeah like nike is just yeah just like i almost felt
like and i've seen the comments he was like this is the response to the 81 and I'm just like yeah I'm like if it is yeah Nike is really they own they bullshit when I seen that I'm like yeah this is this was it it was a hit like it sent the internet into frenzy like you know what I mean people were just like and like I said Wale like the the choice of person for me would just it made it that much better just to see Wale because
for years we were you know we were like you know Wale needs he needs his own shoe and you know to debut this yeah just it's just cool to see just new shit between the shy and then this pair i was just like thoroughly.
Excited for sneakers and i feel like that's a silhouette that would look good in pretty much any colorway like the ae1 is also one of those silhouettes i feel like every colorway that a1 has is a hit that is also another sneaker that can have can be in any colorway and also be a hit you know and it could be like you can have like the shiny look to it or you can have the matted look or you can or you can have the mat i was just about
to say that the shiny or the mat give me the copper like we already seen give me a fucking royal give me an eggplant give me all of those take give me a pewter like take the phone pauses give me all of those colors in that bro i'm there, yeah which is which is crazy because i i feel like you might see a bunch of like college teams rocking them and being in like college p too you know what i mean like it could be one of the things one of those things where you can
have that sneaker in pretty much any colorway and it take off, Yeah, I just, I didn't expect it. Like, it was just, it was funny because it was just like, I seen them, like, what the fuck are those? Like, I was just like, showing them while late. And then, like I said, you see the, then you see the copper joints, and I'm just like, okay, Nike, y'all motherfuckers know what y'all doing. It was just, it was something out of left field for me. I didn't expect it.
And something so simplistic, but at the same time, so dope.
¶ Wale’s Sneaker Debut
So it was, I think the sneakers sold the show. The All-Star Weekend was trash, but when it came to shoes, I think. The sneakers definitely, definitely saved it. There was a lot to talk about with that. Yeah. Kudos to all the brands though. I mean, Nike was definitely the top of, you know, the talk of the town, I guess you could say.
But I feel like there was a lot of brands that kind of went, took it back to those days where, you know, people were just anticipating something to happen with sneakers and not knowing what it was.
And they just you know did something to sort of wow the crowd and you know make it make it so that people were rewarded for being at all-star weekend and supporting the festivities that were also into sneakers as well so oh yeah i think for the shoe for the shoe too yeah because it's been lackluster but let's let's be honest in the last few years when it came to shoes you know we knew we were getting some hype that we wanted but i think this year it kind of took it back to like
you said kev just kind of the basics with the you know really focusing on the shoes and for the people attending and giving them something and i think for that early the early drops that people were able to access those early pairs of anticipated pairs and to be able to get them early and then the new innovative stuff that we've seen it just it was i was excited like the shoes for me stole definitely stole stole the weekend just to see that what was going on with that yeah so.
Good discussion. Yeah. Yeah, man. Very good discussion. Nike really talked about restoring the feeling specifically, and it felt restored, that's for sure. Yeah, I agree. Yo, we back. We back. That's what I want to say. We back. Yo, I'm going to rant to the A6. The New Bounds, love you guys. We've been kicking out back in, but we told y'all, this is what it was going to be.
¶ Shoutouts and Final Thoughts
We're going to come back to what it's supposed to be, and we're here.
So once you see people once you see the fights and the fights and the shootings and the stabbing, you know what time it is we don't condone the violence but you know we don't are hyped man you know you know when they're willing to do that for sneakers yeah man yeah man so let's let's get back to what it's supposed to be so much love to like i said to the guys out there who fuck with the a6 and new bounces but the real ones know this is where it's at so welcome welcome back,
welcome back there'll be no jordan slander. Oh man good good good chat i wish collie was here too because i would love collie's insight especially with these new pairs that are coming out because i know collie's always talking about you know the innovative and new and all of that so you know can't wait to talk to him about you know his thoughts on that but yeah man so it's a good time i'm happy i'm ecstatic you know get of J's, man.
And like I said, for those people, this is the time. Get back into it now. Get back into it now. Get back into it now. Yes, sir. Shout out to the homie Juan, man. Like you said, everybody back on ones. Everybody trying to jump back on the bandwagon. When they said they was dead, they said, yeah, Juan said, no, I've been here. Shout out to the homie, man. They said they was dead. Said they was dead. Jordan, man, said, we got you. We heard you.
Dope. all right yeah good good time yeah any shout outs for us, I got a couple. I'll kick it off. Shout out Chef Creasel. I was at the game last week. That was a Wednesday that I missed. So last week I was at the game. This was just before the snowstorm hit too. Hooked me up with a reservation at Scotiab Club. Of course, love dining there. Just being able to talk to the homie at the arena as well. But I want to shout out MidSoulCollector too. He ran this penny bracket battle,
which I thought was super dope. Penny Ones, one of my favorite all-time sneakers. And I just love the way that he did it too with his artwork. A big fan of his art as, you know, you guys know already, but you know, those of you that don't know, he, I purchased some art from him. I got him to, you know, do some pieces of my dogs that passed away a couple of years ago with some sneakers and stuff.
So I'm always a fan of, you know, his style of art, but shout out to him for doing that Penny bracket thing because it made me remember a lot of the colorways that I didn't remember from, you know, Penny Ones and Penny Ones have come a long way because, you know, he took out the, the, he called them the, the big three, which was the, the Orlando, the playoffs and the homes, which I think it was a smart thing to do because they would have just, you know, they would have just beat every.
But it just made me remember all of the other dope Penny Ones that have come out. And I feel like he's got in his collection, he's pretty much got most of those, you know, a lot of them, of them.
So it was nice to see that. It was really refreshing, but to see it in his artwork and the stuff they did, shout out to him because it does take a lot of work as Trev knows from running a lot of our competitions that we've done or our contests with the brackets takes a lot of work, but then he's got to do the art on top of that. So shout out to you, Midsole Collector.
I'm excited to see the Penny 2 version coming soon and just reliving some of the colorways that have come out for the pennies and keeping Team Penny alive. Yes, sir. Rich, you got one. Yeah, I want to give a shout-out to my son, Icy Marquis. He will be 17 in two days. So, yeah, crazy. So, shout-out to him. He's definitely gave me a lot of the gray hairs that I have. Shout-out to you. The ones that you have left? That I got left, exactly. Shout-out to you for keeping me on my toes, man.
But, yeah, 17, crazy. I still remember when I was 17. So, just, yeah, surreal. What does a 17-year-old ask for their birthday? Money. Oh, they want money? I'm curious. I'm just curious. Yeah, money, man. I actually got a pickup for him, too. I should have showed it. I grabbed him something. He really likes the Pegasus, the Nike Pegasus. So I actually got a pair for him. It's like a cool gray pair. Dope. He's got a good taste in colorways. Yeah, picked him up with those.
I love the kid, man. He's not really a Jordan guy. He's very different in terms of his style. So he likes a lot of the obscure stuff, which is cool. So. Yeah, true. Got his taste, but yeah, shout out to him. Yeah, 17, man. Crazy. Crazy. Yeah, man. Wild. I remember buying, getting you infant shoes for him, right? Oh, yeah. When I met you, Trev, he was like, baby. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, I didn't see. Every time you tell me how old your kids are, I'm like, oh, man. Yeah, you're getting old, Trev.
Oh, man. Oh, man. Getting old man getting old but yeah that's that's my shout out yeah i don't think i have one specifically this week no more eagles i'm not gonna rub it in our face. You're just gonna shout out the eagles every week until the new season starts that's a great idea i love that that's a great idea.
Shout out again to the eagles in case you forgot they won the super bowl If you didn't hear, we recorded an episode last week, unfortunately, as I've mentioned, or I can't remember if I did, but my computer crapped out on me. So recording didn't go as well as we wanted, but needed to get an episode in just to rub it in everyone's face that the Eagles are the 2024 Super Bowl champions.
Yeah. You know what? As much as we joke around, I didn't get a chance to congratulate Trev and all the Eagles fans and all the former guests that are Eagles fans. So shout out to our former guests fans, because, you know, I, I, I'm a huge football fan, NFL fan, as much as I didn't want to see the Eagles win, I didn't want to see the chiefs win even more.
So it was just nice to see. And I think it was one of those things where that in Eagles, we trust episode was pretty much like five years in the making because we weren't around. We weren't around like this podcast wasn't around when the Eagles won the previous Super Bowl. So we've talked a lot of shit to Trev. We've talked a lot of shit to the guests that have been on here that are Eagles fans. But after all these years, Trev is able to finally say on this podcast that
the Eagles are Super Bowl champions while this podcast. Knock it everyone else. So we thought we were obnoxious before. Now we got two Super Bowls.
So shout out shout out to all the eagles fans shout out to those guys yeah man shout out to you crazy crazy to think, awesome as i just mentioned my computer is down so this may sound a little bit different beginning and ending but i should be back up to normal hopefully by next week so thank you everyone for listening i did this i did this last time we recorded rich and i remembered it right after i stopped the recording i'm not editing this
