Episode description

Reema Rafay is a Muslim entrepreneur, mother, and diversity and inclusion advisor. Today on the show, Reema shares with Jen some stories of racial abuse she experienced as a child. She explains how these experiences, and her father’s teachings of compassion, have shaped her into the woman she is today. The two also touch on the drawbacks of forced tokenism within marketing and the importance of asking questions about those who are different from you–when we’re not afraid to inquire there’s always a greater love and understanding on the other side.

Today on Becoming Iconic:

  • The story of Reema’s upbringing and racial abuse
  • How can we open our businesses to serve everyone?
  • How tokenism does more harm than good when done irresponsibly
  • Why accepting others does not negate the denial of self
  • Why you should take on the responsibility to learn about people
  • A reminder that it’s okay to ask questions about what you don’t understand
