Giants 2022 Draft Grades

[SPEAKER_00]: Chris Mizignano, so Chris, last year we did a podcast about the twenty twenty one draft. [SPEAKER_00]: because you can typically grade a draft three years later. [SPEAKER_00]: That's what we always say. [SPEAKER_00]: You cannot grade a draft right away. [SPEAKER_00]: That's stupid. [SPEAKER_00]: So we figured, put together a podcast and Brian Fitzgerald to his credit message being said, hey man, I'm ready to hear about the twenty-twenty-two draft.

[SPEAKER_00]: I sent that a few weeks ago. [SPEAKER_00]: I said, well, we'll probably do that on a night where we don't have anyone. [SPEAKER_00]: So we figured tonight we'll talk about the twenty-twenty-two draft. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll go through each pick. [SPEAKER_00]: And we'll give it a great. [SPEAKER_00]: And we're working on more guests as well. [SPEAKER_00]: A little communication snap on my park guys. [SPEAKER_00]: I need a new cell phone. [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, but that's.

[SPEAKER_01]: You out need to do your allergies. [SPEAKER_01]: Your allergies look like they kill in you. [SPEAKER_01]: You always look like you're swollen through it so bad. [SPEAKER_01]: It's so bad. [SPEAKER_00]: Try to belittle for a baby. [SPEAKER_01]: Boy, I never seen you look so bad, but yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm literally so horrible. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, okay. [SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, first off, I guess before we get into the draft, uh, Garrett Wilson's a rich man and [SPEAKER_00]: Thinkin' the same thing you tweeted that Malik neighbors is smiling right now, huh? [SPEAKER_00]: My God, we'll see ya. [SPEAKER_00]: And tell him. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm thirty, wow. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.

[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure it's every McLaren is. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure he's smiling too, because he's waiting for a new contract over there in Washington. [SPEAKER_00]: Unbelievable. [SPEAKER_01]: So what's like, thirty one a year, Jerry, right around the end? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so boy, when Malik is ready to roll in a cup of years, when we look at that, thirty eight, forty. [SPEAKER_00]: It's unbelievable.

[SPEAKER_01]: Thirty seven, he's, Malik's gonna be a very rich man in about three years, boy. [SPEAKER_01]: I'll tell you that. [SPEAKER_01]: You see guys I came and they see those contracts and they say, wow, I can't wait to wait till my time is up to re-up because it's gonna be a lot, a lot of money man. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and his numbers aren't, you know, they're going to improve with another quarterback.

[SPEAKER_00]: So he's going to be a, like you said, he's going to be a very, very rich man in a few years. [SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, see if he takes that next step this year. [SPEAKER_00]: But look, speaking of draft fix and a guy that I met will get into the twenty twenty two draft, we're going to start grading it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Joe Shane's first draft when it first happened, you know the first round I was I came out of the first round ecstatic and this is how you know this is basically shows you that you don't really know until you have to wait a few years right no matter how you feel you have to give it time to see if these draft picks are going to work out and you know someone I met the other day at the airport the fifth overall pick in the twenty twenty two draft

[SPEAKER_00]: Monster of a man, as Chris has been talking about, and I verified it. [SPEAKER_00]: I verified it in the, you know, the, what was it? [SPEAKER_00]: The granola bar line that he was in or whatever he was in, came on tiptoe is a monster of a man. [SPEAKER_00]: He was our first, he was our fifth round pick, I'm sorry, fifth over all pick, Joe Shane's first pick Chris. [SPEAKER_00]: All that you go first, how do you grade that pick so far? [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna give tips a B minus.

[SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: I'll give him a B-minus. [SPEAKER_01]: He's had double digits sax one year, right? [SPEAKER_01]: But he hasn't been all that we have expected from a fifth-over-all pick. [SPEAKER_01]: So, he does things well, plays it one well at times, sets the edge well, but we kind of drafted him for double digits sax. [SPEAKER_01]: And he hasn't quite been this. [SPEAKER_01]: But he's done a lot of good things.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's been in July, she, you know, in Mystic Five games with the injury. [SPEAKER_01]: But I'm going to give that slightly higher grade than mediocre. [SPEAKER_01]: That's why I'm going to give that beam. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to give me a piece like a real pretty solid A's phenomenal. [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe good. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to give him a CC like that mediocre line. [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to go a little bit higher than that.

[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go to B minus with tips. [SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, don't Jerry, we were hoping. [SPEAKER_01]: that three years, you know, when he had this draft in twenty twenty two that at this point, we would sit both of us who say, hey, hey, yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Like sort of like what Abdul Qada, we hope in three years where we do this review. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: After three years of four years, we'll have you all look at it.

[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, hey, he's an easy day, you know, because of what he's done. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to go there with tips. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to give him a B minus B minus. [SPEAKER_01]: For a line C, but I'll stick with the B minus not as. [SPEAKER_01]: He has it performed as much as we have expected. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, in his first three years. [SPEAKER_00]: First, let me make one, let me highlight one comment from AZ best channel in the world.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think [SPEAKER_00]: I think you said it in your column, he's in for a big year this year. [SPEAKER_00]: Or what we surprised. [SPEAKER_00]: So look, that grade could change. [SPEAKER_00]: So right now, I say C++ is a little, giant fans, or I think it's funny with Tidado. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like they're very hard on him, and I get it. [SPEAKER_00]: But at the same time, he's not the Monterey more, guys. [SPEAKER_00]: He can play, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: So I think C++ be minus is right. [SPEAKER_00]: I'll go C++. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's, Joey, you're fifth overall pick. [SPEAKER_01]: You just expect more. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: We've expected more. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, will that happen this year? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: We'll see, you know. [SPEAKER_01]: But it is what it is. [SPEAKER_01]: You don't mean so after three years, it just has been quite what we expected.

[SPEAKER_01]: We expected more. [SPEAKER_02]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: But at the same time, like I said, I'm not going to destroy him because he's done a lot of good things to himself. [SPEAKER_02]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: See plus is very fair. [SPEAKER_01]: My opinion, I was thinking about that, Joey. [SPEAKER_01]: It really was, but I said, you know what? [SPEAKER_01]: He's got he has some sacks. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, we'll go with the BMU, which is basically around the same thing, C++.

[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I think we're in agreement with the greatest for K-Von. [SPEAKER_00]: Richie, I mean, how much have the injuries played into K-T's meter or Capulacris? [SPEAKER_01]: How much is the injuries played in? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think the injuries is for Oelkey's played banged up, but even Miss Gaines, but no, I think, you know, he's just, we've seen what K-Von is his first few years. [SPEAKER_01]: Now it doesn't mean he can't approve.

[SPEAKER_01]: Look, a prime example straight hand as far as sex wise, right? [SPEAKER_01]: He didn't really stock at his, [SPEAKER_01]: Bunch of sacks at two, nine, seven, four, nine, seven. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right. [SPEAKER_01]: So if that's what we're hoping for, tip it off. [SPEAKER_01]: You're looking at guy like I do caught up behind them and all the, and those guys on the field the same time is going to help tips. [SPEAKER_01]: Yep. [SPEAKER_01]: No question.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to help everybody. [SPEAKER_01]: Um, but it is what it is. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not kidding. [SPEAKER_01]: Look, we've been critical tips at times. [SPEAKER_01]: She like, there's been games of Jerry. [SPEAKER_01]: We've come on Monday afternoons evaluating the game that they've been for. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And we will at a few times, we will like the tips even play. [SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: The tips.

[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I've been in a press box. [SPEAKER_01]: Like what is tips playing? [SPEAKER_01]: What is he doing? [SPEAKER_01]: You know, he said, you know what I mean? [SPEAKER_01]: So, and it is on the games where he said, he will he stood out and he's played really well. [SPEAKER_01]: We'll see what happens this year, but I think that's a pretty fair grave of Boltvus. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's interesting. [SPEAKER_00]: I just thought about this.

[SPEAKER_00]: You said you brought up straight hand. [SPEAKER_00]: It really, ninety seven when he broke out. [SPEAKER_00]: Really was ninety ninety six to our plan better. [SPEAKER_00]: But ninety seven was his breakout pro bowl year. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's had a good year that year though on the line. [SPEAKER_00]: Chad Bratsky. [SPEAKER_00]: And remember, he got a big contract shot, Chad.

[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, to your point, talking about a blue card or like maybe, I know, I know, burns on the team, I get it, and extra Lawrence, but maybe this will be that, right? [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe this will be, you know, the guy comes aboard and, you know, and tips excels there. [SPEAKER_00]: So, I was just thinking of that, but that's interesting. [SPEAKER_00]: So, [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Brasky was a pretty easy play of the joys man double digit sex.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Pretty good play of the joys. [SPEAKER_00]: Yep. [SPEAKER_00]: I hope he works out at guard. [SPEAKER_00]: I think he's going to work out at guard. [SPEAKER_00]: But up until this point, I have to give him an F. I mean, he just, he has been an absolute disaster at right tackle. [SPEAKER_00]: There's times where you like to say, he doesn't look.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's ever played the position. [SPEAKER_00]: We've got to keep it real here. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, we're not homers and binding means. [SPEAKER_00]: And we're not the other way either, just to pick on guys, to pick on them. [SPEAKER_00]: But if you give him anything but an F, unless it's a D minus. [SPEAKER_00]: I just think we're kidding ourselves. [SPEAKER_00]: So you expected a ton out of him, you expected Andrew Thomas on the right side.

[SPEAKER_00]: And again, it may work out for him at guard. [SPEAKER_00]: However, right now, I just, I give him the kid an F, I'm sorry. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm a deep pro. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, could you, what, what? [SPEAKER_01]: What other great could you give him? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: If you want to be a real nice guy, say, D, mine, it's okay, but I'm giving him an F to. [SPEAKER_01]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: He's seventh overall pick.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's been a disaster. [SPEAKER_01]: Now they got to move him the car, the salvage. [SPEAKER_01]: What he has left in a giant uniform, you know, some big. [SPEAKER_01]: some stupid comments in a locker room, about the fan base. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: That really hurt. [SPEAKER_01]: He's been injured. [SPEAKER_01]: When he's played, he has a played well. [SPEAKER_01]: He's had some games where he wasn't bad. [SPEAKER_01]: All the games he was on a ground like a hefty game.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's just, he's, look, it's been a disaster. [SPEAKER_01]: Uh, with Evan, and I don't think there's any other great bigger game in Jerry, uh, but. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And F. This is F to three years. [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, it's an F for Evan Neil. [SPEAKER_01]: No question. [SPEAKER_00]: John piece isn't in fairness to Joe S. He was the chalk pick. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, yeah, look, it's not like it was an unheard of pick, guys.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now, that's what we always said. [SPEAKER_00]: Like Evan Neill. [SPEAKER_00]: And I think Joe Shane kind of alluded to that last year at the press conference, like wait a minute, this kid was a

[SPEAKER_00]: on both on a lot of boards was a top five pick top there was a time where he was the number one pick to to to protect Trevor Lawrence because I it was um the jags picked first that year so yeah now that was not a it was not an unheard of pick I mean we're pretty psyched and we got him at seven I remember being ecstatic walking out of that first round with tibido and uh and Evan Neil thanks Alex really appreciate that man [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so, all right.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like Joey, you said it well. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, it wasn't some pick out a left field. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, it was a pick that many people, you know, had real rated one or two. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, that stuff tackled wise and it just has that work here.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Like I said, you know, it'll see what he has at God position this summer, which is next week and starting up next week and [SPEAKER_01]: Uh, but it's an F. You have a question about it. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: Second round. [SPEAKER_00]: This one was, I remember this one being a head scratcher at the time. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, and kind of texting you like, oh, well, that was a weird one.

[SPEAKER_00]: Um, Wandell Robinson at forty three overall in the second round. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, look, I'll go first here. [SPEAKER_00]: Then I'll let you go for the next two. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go see, he's the offensive version of Tidado here for me. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to give him a C plus. [SPEAKER_00]: He's got a lot of ability and I think he could still be a really good slot receiver. [SPEAKER_00]: He has fleshed for us.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's he's got to get more consistency catching the ball and look, I don't know if it's by design, but we all know running short of the sticks on third down. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's just it's maddening. [SPEAKER_00]: He's got so much talent. [SPEAKER_00]: I know he's small, but I say C plus for him, because I don't know if you want to go higher or not, but he's fleshed. [SPEAKER_00]: And two years ago, I was so excited about what he was going to bring to the table last year.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm still excited this year, but it's a little enthusiasm, it's a little tempered. [SPEAKER_00]: So I say C plus. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Jay, I'm going to go with you. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go with you to maybe just too many routes, shorter sticks. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Too many key drops. [SPEAKER_01]: That's to me, Jerry. [SPEAKER_01]: That's what's keeping me from giving him that B minus, or even a B. He's done a lot of good things.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's done a lot of catch a lot of exceptions. [SPEAKER_02]: Yep. [SPEAKER_01]: And all that. [SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, less season, you know, just too many key drops and key situations. [SPEAKER_01]: How many times? [SPEAKER_01]: How many F in times have we said, dude, it's third and six, not third and five, right? [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_01]: So, that's what's holding me up a wandell. [SPEAKER_01]: Um, to me, he hasn't been a second round pick.

[SPEAKER_01]: Um, not he hasn't been horrific hasn't been like, I like to say tomato. [SPEAKER_01]: We don't have it all. [SPEAKER_01]: No, but we're grading it out. [SPEAKER_01]: We got to take everything into consideration. [SPEAKER_01]: So I'll go with you in that one to Jerry too. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go to see plus. [SPEAKER_01]: And I can understand people give them a B-minus. [SPEAKER_01]: I'll get that. [SPEAKER_01]: Anybody gives me a B, but I don't know about that.

[SPEAKER_01]: But that B-minus I'll give it to you, too. [SPEAKER_01]: If anybody wants to give me that B-minus, I get it. [SPEAKER_01]: But I'll go with that C-minus. [SPEAKER_01]: There's just too many things last season. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, just not that great down, man. [SPEAKER_00]: After the Green Bay Monday night game, the Divido game two years ago, I thought he was on his way to being a really, really good slot receiver.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of, for me, that's the game he kind of peaked. [SPEAKER_00]: Then last year, the Dallas game, we all saw a struggle. [SPEAKER_00]: And it just seemed to never really get going last year. [SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, see, see plus. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's see, very fair. [SPEAKER_00]: Thanks, Chuck. [SPEAKER_00]: Very fair, see plus. [SPEAKER_00]: John Great News, some flashes are great, but the tiny catch radius and drops hurts him the most.

[SPEAKER_00]: Petradi is small. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, small pizza. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Look, look, this is the NFL, Jerry. [SPEAKER_01]: You don't mean, like, when you have, I remember both the top of the head, he had two key drops last year, two key drops in close games. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, and I'm sorry, you know, this is the NFL. [SPEAKER_01]: Can you drop in balls and key situations? [SPEAKER_01]: That's not good, brother.

[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that doesn't work here, you know? [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: So hopefully, you don't want to [SPEAKER_01]: You know, he gets better with that and all that stuff. [SPEAKER_01]: And hopefully those little drop issues he's had does not happen again. [SPEAKER_01]: But it's a slot kid. [SPEAKER_01]: Yep. [SPEAKER_01]: Not I like them. [SPEAKER_01]: They'll get me wrong, but I think C plus is going in. [SPEAKER_00]: All right, third round there's two picks.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'll let you go with these two first. [SPEAKER_00]: The first one, sixty seventh overall. [SPEAKER_00]: offensive lineman at a North Carolina Josh is who do Chris. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, a little unfortunately for him has been stuck at tackle a lot. [SPEAKER_01]: It has not consistently played his natural position at God. [SPEAKER_01]: So because he's been so bad at tackle.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a really proven ending at God, although he's played decent at times where he's had to play God, he's not played well at tackle, but I'm not even gonna blame the kid for that. [SPEAKER_00]: I know. [SPEAKER_00]: We should blame the kid. [SPEAKER_00]: The coach should have a play in this grade, by the way. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right? [SPEAKER_01]: But we are grading their performance on the field, so I'm gonna have to give Josh a date.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's generous, I think. [SPEAKER_00]: I think most people say it's safe. [SPEAKER_00]: Look at you, Grissard. [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't think you'd be the easier grader. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's close. [SPEAKER_00]: I say D-minus. [SPEAKER_00]: I can't give him the F that that Evan meal is just because of where he was drafted in the third round. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you got to take a drink for this top top ten ranked defense top twenty offense right so show you have to show improvement like I'm not ready to concede like the number twenty offense but let's be honest Chris they can so bad that if they got up to twenty I'd be like okay that's progress right an offensive line that's competent [SPEAKER_00]: I think the win total that it would translate to for me to be happy is seven wins.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think if they're seven and ten, I can't complain on the podcast about that. [SPEAKER_00]: Six and eleven, it's like, I'm not a good year. [SPEAKER_00]: It's that one extra win. [SPEAKER_00]: It just seems like seven and ten for me. [SPEAKER_00]: If those things go right, if the giants are tenth overall or [SPEAKER_00]: one of the better past rushers say, maybe not tenth overall, one of the better past rushing teams.

[SPEAKER_00]: And if that equates to a top, let's say, top, twelve, thirteen defense, top twenty offense. [SPEAKER_00]: That's progress for me. [SPEAKER_00]: That means that what Shane and Dable are doing are the right things. [SPEAKER_00]: And then if Jackson darkets in, what does he look like? [SPEAKER_01]: You know, you lose it and it's tough losses and it's competitive football late this season, heading into December where you say, hey, at least we have a season with playing competitive football.
