Welcome to the Gamers Inn. Come on in, pull up a chair next to the fire. It looks like you've had a long journey. I'm your host, Jocelyn, and joining me as always is my co-host Ryan. Hello, Ryan!
Hello, Jocelyn. I'm smarting today. We had a we had a tough loss.
I thought you meant like I'm smarting today as in like I am having a very intellectually positive day. Look at me, I am so smart. And I was like, I don't think smarting is a is a word like you think it's a word right.
Like when you're hurting.
No, I know. Like when you hurt, yeah, no, I I know, but I thought you were saying, like, I'm having a very smart day today. I am smarting.
You assumed I was using the word incorrectly. I love that.
I mean we've been podcasting together for fifteen years now. Like uh Roll the tape.
Wow, it's funny. I edit out all the times I say a wrong word and and get made.
You do not. There's no way. No. You would spend hours editing every week.
Yes, that's true. But no, uh I I don't watch sports and I do like the Montreal Canadiens. They they've been the team I picked. And this isn't gonna be like, you know, Toronto Maple Leafs versus Montreal Canadians. This is just I just find that um.
I'm working I'm rooting for the Canadians right now a hundred percent. Like
'Cause it's the only Canadian team left.
Well there yeah, exactly. But also I have uh one one of my bosses at work is a huge, huge, huge Canadians fan.
Uh-huh.
And he was like
He'd fire you.
Yeah, he's like, I don't know if I can let a Leafs fan root for my team. And I was like, hey man, like There isn't even that huge of a rivalry anymore, it feels like, because of how they like shook everything up. And I'm like, honestly, like I hate Boston and Florida a hundred times more than I hate Montreal at this point. So
I mean the feeling may not be mutual. I know the Toronto Maple Leafs, if you're not a Leafs fan, everyone else hates us. I get that. But in terms of like a rivalry between us and the Canadians, I don't even feel it anymore, which feels wrong to say, but I'm like I hope you guys win legit. Like go for it. This isn't like the nineties when it was like Sens and Canadians and Detroit. Like I hated all of them.
Yeah. In the nineties when there was a chance for them to win the Stanley Cup.
But you know, like I remember growing up and like having those like rivalries like drilled into my head. But with all of the teams and all the changes to the league, I feel like that rivalry just isn't really there anymore. And now I'm just like Go Canadians go. Like let's show'em. Let's win. Except for they're not. But you know Yeah. Maybe they did better in the Toronto. That wasn't hard this year though. That was a low bar.
Yeah. I I I don't often I like watching sports, but I don't often pay attention because I find that I get too invested and and when when a game doesn't go your way, it's like super deflating. And maybe it would be easier if I was like uh paying attention to the whole season, but that that gets into a whole other Can of worms where it's like, how many games are there? There's like a hundred games that you can watch, I guess.
Uh, so yeah, no, I watched the game last night. I I did say to the kids that if they made it into the third round I would subscribe to Sportsnet for the month and and we would check it out and Yeah, we stayed up for the one game on Saturday. They lost uh kids were devastated. Well, Abby was falling asleep. Izzy was already in bed and Caden was distraught. And then we watched and then I watched yesterday's game and it was uh yeah.
It was no it was no fun. It's never it's never fun uh watching them lose because
So what you're saying is that this is all your fault because they were doing fine until you started watching.
A hundred percent.
And and now you just have jinxed them horribly. So everyone who's a Canadians fan, hashtag blame Ryan. I
I warned look, Whirlwind in the chat is is
Yeah.
his conversations about, you know, uh the Montreal Canadians, oh, they're a really good team to watch. They're super great. And they are really great. Carolina is also a really great team and and if they can beat them, That'll be amazing. But I warned him. I said, if I start watching, this always happens. If I'm paying attention and I'm watching, they will start losing. And Roman's like,
don't think you have an effect on the game, Ryan. That's ridiculous. Are you you're not that superstitious. And then, of course, after these two games, he's like, maybe Reschedule the gamers in to Wednesday, you know, so you can't watch.
Oh my god. That's hilarious.
So, anyways, I apologize to the fans and I will be watching on Wednesday. They do
did take a game off Carolina, right? And Carolina hadn't lost yet. So
That's something.
They're they're doing it. They're doing the thing. Yeah.
We'll see. Kind of. I really like watching when they're playing at home because uh the Bell Center there with the fans, they react to everything. And uh when the Carolina hurricanes scored It it sounded like they cut the mic because it was just dead silence and it I thought it was something was broken. And sure enough it was the fans, uh the Montreal fans that were broken because uh They had witnessed a goal. So I don't know. Um
I think is this a first? This might be a first, starting it off with sports.
I don't know. I feel like I've gotta have talked about the leafs before.
Yeah. When was the last time they were in the playoffs? It would have been
Last year, last year. Come on now.
Pay attention. That was a genuine question. I know it
You're not just throwing Jade.
No, I am not
Ryan, you pay attention for two games and all of a sudden you're slandering everyone else.
No, literally, I was paying attention for two games and I don't know what happened before. I know that the Maple East. Don't like Mitch Martner now? I think that's the thing. Or does Mitch Murner
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah. Okay. He wanted to leave because
Yes, he did.
Toronto is
Very difficult to play in. Yeah. Yeah.
That's unfortunate.
That's an understatement, but yeah.
It's very difficult to drive there too. So I've tried both well actually I've tried driving. I've never tried playing in Toronto. So
Well, and I think like it's it's so much wor like it's always been hard to play in Toronto. I think it's so much worse now with like social media and stuff too, because like it's just endless, right? Like There's no more boundaries between them and the public the way they're kinda used to be. So
Yeah. But if you go play in a desert, nobody cares.
People care. I mean, and Vegas is a really good team.
I know. Um so is the all the Florida team. I know that much. I know they're kicking Colorado's ass, but
Yeah. Yeah, the pressure the pressure definitely is not uh the pressure in the the market is not the same. So I do not blame I I don't blame anyone who who ever leaves Toronto looking for a different experience'cause holy hell.
A winning experience. Yeah.
Fair, fair no, fair, fair. I mean I I will admit that it has been forever. We have not really mounted a a good attempt in quite a while. And uh yeah, I can I can admit to that. I'm not gonna make excuses. I have reasons, but I'm not gonna make excuses. Our team has been shit. I am aware. That doesn't mean I'm not gonna I'm not gonna root for them.
Yeah, that's fine.
Oh my God. I saw a TikTok a while ago now that was like, Hey Dad, um, if it hasn't snowed in like sixty seven years, then why like what would you bet is gonna happen in December? Do you think it's gonna snow or is it not gonna snow? He's like, why would I think that it's gonna snow if it hasn't snowed in sixty-seven years? And she's like, Well, you still you still root for the leaves, don't you? And you think they're gonna win every year when all data is against it. I'm like, Oh, I hate this.
Yeah.
It's so true. Every year. This is our year, guys, and it never is.
Wouldn't they have the money?
Next year's a rebuilding year. We got that draft pick, so
Oh yeah. That's good.
Yeah. We'll see.
We'll get there. I before we retire. It'll happen. Maybe.
Probably not. I I'm not holding my breath.
No, don't do that. That would be very unhealthy. I think that's like on the poster.
İzlediğiniz için teşekkür ederim.
Maple Leaf Center or whatever it's called.
I'm pretty sure that um they're I like I don't see them ever really. winning. Like I I don't think that's gonna happen in my lifetime. It'd be nice if it did, like yeah, just once in my life. That'd be pretty cool. But uh yeah, I think my mom was like actually I probably shouldn't say how old my mom was when they won and I'm like, I'm not gonna date my mom like that. That's not that's not nice.
Because it was seventy two, right?
Sixty seven. Yeah, no, they just keep on going back.
They they got a cup the year Canada turned a hundred. No, yes. Yeah.
Yeah, eighteen sixty seven. Yeah, now that now the sixty seven's in my head, I need to re is that the right one.
Sorry, I dated Canada. Sorry. Sorry Canada. My bad, my bad. Uh no, yeah, it is I don't
It is sixty seven, yeah. And I like um and they beat Montreal, apparently. Thanks, Google.
Oh. I think the sixties, seventies, like it was it was kind of traded back and forth, wasn't it? Like Montreal is all top team.
And there there were also there were way, way, way less teams. I think was it still it was 67, there was still only six teams.
I don't know. I mean the original six but yeah, I don't know if it was I think it became eight or
Uh...
'Cause it was the early nineteen hundreds it was six teams, so I don't know. That's a good question.
The original six are the teams that composed the NHL between nineteen forty two and nineteen sixty seven. So yeah, there were only six teams. That's why we won.
You had a one in six chance as opposed to the easy one. Now like a one in forty chance, I guess.
Yeah. Oh man, yeah
It's probably all Canadian players too.
It's I think it's thirty it's thirty two teams, aren't they, in the NHL?
There's so many-
Anyways, yeah, there are a lot. More than six. We're never seeing the playoffs again.
You'll get there.
Anyways, I'm pretty sure we've talked about this for like over ten minutes now. So maybe longer. So sorry guys.
This is hockey talk.
Video games. This is not hockey talk.
No, we're done.
¶ Saros
Yeah, we're done. We're done. Let's talk about video games. How's Saros?
Oh, I finished it. I'm all done. It uh I I it's interesting, we don't often do a week to week for a big single player experience. But I mean it's all I've been playing and I did manage to uh finish the game. Um I uh I remember last week I was talking a lot about how the story wasn't really sticking for me and there was talk of like, okay, let's see how it ends. And um it continues its sort of like
Cryptic. It doesn't like the ending wasn't like, oh, here's everything that happened, but it definitely revealed uh more of what was going on, but yeah, it was still very like up in the air.
Mysterious.
Yeah, very mysterious. Not as bad as the ending of Lost, but you know. Better than that.
The ending of Lost was not that bad.
I can't even remember, didn't they like well I don't want to spoil Austria P. I can't believe he spoiled lost.
Twenty years later.
Twenty oh gosh. Now now we're dating people. Uh no, it did not end in in that well, I guess it kinda did end in a in a weird lost fashion, but um I will say that uh having the Discord and having our game discussions has been really helpful because um there are people who have finished the game prior to me and we can talk theories.
And that kind of like connected a lot of the dots for what was going on in the story, and I do appreciate from a story perspective how they build the story in to the reason you're still
playing the game, like when you finish it and you hit the story conclusion, there is a narrative sort of piece there that that can keep you running through because a a lot of people they finish the story. It's like, ah, I wanna keep playing. I wanna collect all the logs and collectibles and stuff, so they have that
present there and I did that to sort of clean up the trophies and I ended up uh it's a actually a very surprisingly a very easy game to platinum. Uh so I got all the trophies which which is always a a fun adventure. So um but yeah it all it all comes back to gameplay. Like I really enjoyed the gameplay.
I'm impressed you stuck with it, honestly. And I I think that like obviously talking to people in Discord and talking about where you were and it they kind of kept you going and got you over some of those humps. But like I'm super surprised that you played it all the way to the end. Like not in a disparaging way. Like
Yeah. I I think that There was a moment where I was sort of hitting like we talked about this last week with a bit of a lull in like both the gameplay and the story. And then I quickly found that uh I was able to kind of push through and find some some other sort of weapons and stuff that I wasn't quite using before, uh, to sort of mix things up. Like for example, the shotgun. I was like, ah, I just I wasn't a big fan.
Um it's it's all it's too close quarters. I was dying too quickly. Yep. And um then I realized like uh we were talking about it in Discord, it's like, oh well there's uh eventually a version of that weapon you get where you stagger enemies and then you're able to warp to them by using your melee button. And eventually I was just kinda like zipping around the map with the shotgun and able to like'cause you're immune, I think, when you do the the the warp.
Yeah, you need to have you need to have some movement when you've got um like a melee tool like that, right? Yeah.
Yeah, so it I mean, like I said, gameplay is king for this one. If you're thinking like, Oh, I wanna come in and have a an amazing uh I don't know, like it just y I want a story that that I'm gonna, you know, delivered in a narrative fashion that is linear and um and I'll be able to sort of piece it all together. I think this story has like
It's not a simplistic story. It has room for interpretation. You kind of have to piece it together yourself so it helps to have like a community to sort of discuss it with, or a very large Google Drive that you keep all your notes in. Uh if you want to go that route, uh maybe some red yarn and
Corkboard maybe. I don't know. Um But it did at the end sort of it comes together in a way that uh that was really satisfying to not necessarily explain what's happening on the planet, but um Or provide reason behind it, but but sort of just explain what's happened.
to these people that have come to this planet. So and there's there's all this extra lore stuff like, you know, what who is s Soltari, this company, and what do they do and what's the background for them? Like it's it's sort of the catch all Sort of alien style uh, you know, evil tech company that not maybe not evil but overarching tech company that that powers all the things. It's a pretty common sci fi trope to have like one or two giant companies that rule
everything really. So uh they kind of continue with that. It's a common sci fi trope. So it's not it's not like I I I can't fault the game for it.
Groundbreaking. Yeah.
Yeah, exactly. But I think where they where they really shine is is their sort of the loop they've built, your ability to jump around and to different biomes and warp to them, having branching paths within your sort of uh your gameplay.
trajectory and um also like building up your muscle memory like there was moments where you unlock these like nightmare strands which are these areas you can go into that are more difficult but provide higher sort of rewards And they can refresh your uh second chance. sort of ability, which is if you you die, you revive and you get one more shot at uh at the game.
So going into those is very encouraging because like if you don't have your second chance, if you've used it, if you go in there and conquer it, not only will you get better rewards, you'll refresh that sort of respawn and uh I was actually going into all like the first one I went into I got my I just got destroyed and then I was like, Oh gosh, I don't think I'm gonna be going back in there any time soon and
by the time like maybe ten hours later, like progressed a little bit more, I was going into everyone I could find just to like get more power ups and and to prolong the run a little bit and and just having fun. So I I really do think that I don't want my sort of, you know, middling thoughts of the story to distract from the fact that if really what you're coming to Saros for is I mean raw coolie, but also the
The game.
So Yeah, there are very excellent things in this title and and uh the story is still is still good. Like it's not like it's a bad story. It's just it wasn't pulling me forward uh as much as I'd hoped. And there are moments in the game where if you are struggling to push forward the storied faucet just just turns right off, you know, like uh there was a good stretch there where I wasn't getting anything and I was like, I think the game forgot
Like I go to I go to try to talk to people. Like in the second act it it gets very quiet from from a character perspective. And I'd like walk up to the few people I can walk up to and talk to. It's like they had nothing to say and I'm like, oh gosh. So I missed we talked about it before, like Hades 2 had this moment where like there was always something to say and I appreciated that. Even if it was like just flavor text, it was still It was still well worth it, so
But yeah, like uh Seros is really great. I do recommend folks check it out if you're looking for a fast paced action shooter uh and and you're you're looking for that type of gameplay. This is the one for you.
That's awesome. Um, I mean I still haven't had a chance to pick it up. Um, I know I said I was going to, and I still do intend to at some point, um, because you did sell it on me or sell me on it. So uh I do intend to to pick it up at some point. But um what I have picked up and finally had a chance to play for like literally an hour, this is
¶ Subnautica 2
my very earliest thoughts. Um Subnautica 2. I actually got some chance uh got a chance to play a little bit of that. And um it is if you liked Subnautica, you will like Subnautica 2. So far it's like Just the same, only different, I guess. Like you have a kind of crash landing scenario at the very beginning. And you then you start in your life pod and you have to gather resources and there's something off in the distance. Like it is very
If you played the first one, this is the like not necessarily the same thing again, but it is very, very familiar. There's new um like new creatures. new uh resources, stuff like that, new recipes, but like There's a lot of sameness. There's a little bit more complex complexity in terms of like what is driving your exploration. Because if I remember correctly from the first one, it's been like literally eight years since I played the first one.
But I think the story there is like you were on a colony ship that crashes and you're like the sole survivor on this planet, but there's people who've been there before and you're kind of like following their trail and like finding their um like diary entries and things like that. Um and in Subnautica too They kind of like explain the respawn tech in a way that's like
all the people like people are there with you, but it's their like brain scans almost that you have to find. So you have to basically find the the scans, find the people and then bring them back to your base and then like 3D print them a new body. So you're kind of trying to like find all of your friends, I guess. Um so like the the story driver is a little bit different. But it feels very familiar, very same-y in in an in a new way, if that makes sense. Hmm.
That's interesting. Yeah, I never played Much of Subnautica. I think I might have checked in on like the deep zero or below zero.
Below zero. Yeah. That was the I don't actually know if that was like a DLC expansion type thing or if Below Zero was like its own standalone thing. Um
I think it was standalone. I d
Yeah, I didn't play below zero, so I own it. I just haven't had a chance to play it yet. But I tried to jump back into Subnautica before Subnautica two came out. Um and I have the same sort of um I guess gripe with Subnautica 2 that I did with my second playthrough of Subnautica because I dropped off of it really, really quickly.
Because I didn't remember what was going on. And like I I just started a new save. And then I think it was because like I are I had already played through the game. It like didn't give me the intro stuff, the tutorial stuff was turned off. And I was like, okay, I can remember how to do this. I could not remember how to do it. And like, so I think right now I'm looking for I'm just trying to kind of explore and like find out what resources they are there are and there are some recipes.
But like when I look at the recipes, like one of the things that I'm missing right now, because like um water and food and oxygen and health are your four things that you kind of have to manage. And uh I have been completely unable to find salt and salt is required for like the first food recipe. And I'm like, I don't understand like how this can be either so scarce or not obvious and there's no like list of like materials or like visually what these things look like. The you can see the recipe.
But it's I don't know. I just I'm having a really hard time. You would think that if it's like a basic default, like within the recipes that you get when you first Crash land, that it would also have some sort of like a reference thing, because there's like an AI. on the ship with you, you think you could talk to the AI and be like, Hey, what does salt look like and where would I find it? But instead it's like I've gone up to all of the kind of deposits and stuff I can easily find and I'm
Swinging my hammer and hitting a bunch of stuff and I'm like, Where where is salt? I don't understand. And I don't have a um like a recipe for some sort of I don't know, like distiller thing that would like separate the salt from the water, uh like a purifier. I don't have a recipe for that. So I'm like, I don't understand how I'm supposed to do the thing and there is no help telling me how to do the thing.
So it was very I found it very similar in my second playthrough of Subnautica and I don't remember how I did it in the first playthrough other than I remember I streamed it and I had a lot of help from Twitch chat. So W without Twitch chat, I am very lost in Subnautica too. So I don't know if that's a me thing or I should just look it up, but
It feels like it
It feels bad to hit a wall like that in the first like hour of gameplay.
Yeah, that is well m is it an early access thing where like it's not quite clear. Where to get the salt?
know if it's an early access thing because like You're right. Subnautica two is definitely in early access right now. They have a big like disclaimer about balance and um like features and and that they're still working on it. There will be bugs, blah, blah, blah, like whatever. That disclaimer is, I think, on the store page. It's the most recent news article. It's in the like loading screen. All of that stuff. Um
I d it doesn't feel early access because like I say, it was very similar in Subnautica where there isn't a whole lot of guidance at the beginning. You're just supposed to explore. But I'm playing on and maybe it would be different if I was on like unlimited resources mode, but I chose to do survival because I'm like, I want the full Subnautica experience. I wanna have to worry about water and I want to have to worry about my food because it just adds that extra layer of like.
complexity and like urgency. But uh yeah, like salt seems like such a very basic resource. And like I say, it's included in like the default recipes that you're supposed to know how to make. So There I feel like it should be more obvious and it's not as to like where you get it and how and why and all that kind of stuff. So maybe I'm missing something very glaringly obvious, but it doesn't feel like it's
An early access problem. Like this is a thing we'd like to include in later recipes, or like, yeah, anything like that. So I don't know. We'll see. Like I say, I have played for an hour tops. Like I ha I have not had a chance to dive deep into this at all. Dive deep. Hi into Symnautica. I did it. I win.
Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. But I have seen a lot of people with a lot of hours sunk into this. So I'm sure I'll get over the hump, but I think I'm gonna have to just Google some stuff because yeah, it's uh already kind of like a wall and a little bit frustrating. And I tried to like swim as far as I could possibly swim. And I'm like, this doesn't feel like the thing I'm supposed to be doing yet. I'm like, don't even have my like little flippy floppy flippers.
Um, and I'm uh swimming like a kilometer away from my life pod. Like and things are taking chunks out of me. Like this is not this I'm not supposed to be here yet.
Yeah. Well it's interesting because I think with the approach to how early access works, especially with a game like a survival game, um You're you're you're playing a uh a preview of what's to come. Like the game is gonna change.
It does look very polished, honestly. Like if I didn't know that this was early access, then I wouldn't think it was early access. So it does have that going for it. It looks really great. It plays really great so far. Other than like I say, there's just that like design.
choice. I don't even necessarily want to say flaw because this is not the kind of game I normally play. So maybe there are a lot of games that that are like this that are basically like not holding your hand, not giving you a tutorial, like But I mean, it's the same thing that I kind of ripped Timberborne for, right? Like is that there wasn't a a tutorial and I got lost and I didn't understand a lot of relationships between things and I wasted a lot of resources.
Like, I feel like I've already I've collected so much that I have no inventory space left. And I'm like, I feel like I should have a crafting recipe for a chest by now. Like I feel like I'm just missing some key piece of information. Um and yeah, maybe I should go back to Subnautica and try to relearn how to play the game. Because like I say, it does feel like a just another um iteration on the same thing. So
And not in a bad way. Like don't please don't anyone think that I'm knocking this'cause I I think I'm gonna spend a lot of time in here, but Once I actually have the time to spend. But yeah, like it's it's beautiful. It's it's lovely. And like I say, if you like the first one, you'll like the second one. So if you're not in there, get in there. The reason that I bought it in early access is basically because I
wanted to support the developers who have been so they've just been dealt such a raw deal by the publishing company. So The publishing company or the
Uh yeah, publisher crafted.
Yeah, yeah, yeah Yeah. So I was like, you know what? I am gonna play it and I am gonna like give them money day one and I am gonna s like show that this is a good game and a product that I want and screw you, stupid overarching company.
But
That's probably not the lesson they're gonna learn, but
Well, they will.
My support the devs. Yeah, they're they're gonna see the money, right? And that's why that's why it's so frustrating because I'm like I want to support the devs, but I don't want to give money to the publisher. So how do I how do I do that? And there realistically is no way to do that. So But yeah, it's good, it's good. It doesn't feel like early access. It's very pretty. If you like the first one, pick up some nautica too.
¶ News
You know what else you should do? Head on over to patreon.com slash the gamers in. Uh, we have a monthly host special. I'm gonna do my absolute best to get it out. this month. I realize there's only like five days left in this month, but I am I am going to do my best and try to get it to you this week or next week. Um Ryan's host special is up right now from last month talking about uh gaming resurrection. So go and check that out. Again, patreon.com slash the gamers in.
We also just had our game night. We played played up. It was really, really fun. I wanna thank Josh for the emotional support in the chat room. Um, so much good knowledge there. I had no idea what I was doing. I ended up in my top corner making my pizzas and I was like, oh I can do this loop. Just I'm just gonna keep making pizzas. I am so comfy up here. And uh but yeah, it was a lot of fun with Jim and and nevermore. So if you missed that, if you are a patron
You can see the VOD over at patreon.com slash the gamers in. Our next game night is going to be Friday, June 19th at 830 PM Eastern. And if you'd like to join the conversation and maybe make some suggestions about what we should play, head on over to tiny.cc slash TGI Discord. That brings us to the news this week.
Uh, Destiny's kinda done so. There is going to be no more content after June for Destiny Two, which um they haven't really given much information about what they're going to be working on next, which means, you know Potentially not good things for devs over at uh Bungie. They do have marathon.
But uh if they're going to not be making any more content for Destiny Two, I can't imagine that all of those Destiny Two folks are gonna head on over to Marathon. They may key people because they talk about how they're gonna like incubate their next idea or whatever the hell. So It's possible that they're just gonna keep the devs on and try to work on the next big thing, whatever that looks like.
I wouldn't hold my breath though. It doesn't seem the way it like the way the industry works these days. So I think our next our next news story is probably gonna be layoffs in a few weeks. But we'll see. We'll see. Maybe I'm horrifically wrong.
Well this was a surprising one because I feel like Destiny has been a large part of like the industry for for quite a while. I remember when Destiny One launched. It was a big deal and when they when they said, Okay, we're gonna do Destiny two because the technology that ran Destiny One was just getting so out of hand that they needed to they needed a new system. And they had been pretty public about, you know, destiny as a platform would evolve when needed.
And they they speak to, you know, uh uh I can't remember the last expansion that came out last year, but they speak to that that was always b uh seen as like a narrative conclusion. They they did the They did it before W Warcraft did uh World of Warcraft with their
Here's our three expansions. They kind of announced three expansions to Destiny Two that sort of told and concluded a story. I think it was called The Final Shape. So From a narrative perspective, my understanding is that the story as we knew it had come to like a conclusion. But the idea was always like there would be more Destiny two or there would be a Destiny three and what is accompanying this news is that Destiny three is not an active development, which Seems kind of wild.
Doesn't sound like they've they've even started thinking about or, you know, floating the idea of Destiny three. Like
Yeah. I mean this is this is news that really feels like uh
Destiny's just done.
Yeah, we're being forced to say this, you know, and to make this dis this decision, right? Um, Marathon is not m as far as I understand, I have not played Marathon, but my understanding is the scope of Marathon is is not even close to what Destiny Two offers in terms of PvE and story Raids and dungeons. So Marathon is an extraction shooter, so it's a very specific scope. And
Yeah.
Destiny two is huge in the in the amount of developers it takes. And the you know, attached to this is rumors that layoffs will be possible. It's like, I don't think uh it is a rumor, but I don't see how you keep those teams active when you have no other big project. I mean this is this is a recipe we've seen over and over again in this industry where if you don't have a project to put these folks on, it leads to mass layoffs and they point to we don't have anything for them to do.
Even though they're owned by Sony and they probably have
Tons of places they could be reallocated. Yeah.
A hundred percent.
And it says that so the actual statement is as our focus turns towards a new beginning for Bungie. So again, very like moving away from destiny. Uh, we will begin work incubating our next games, which says to me they have no idea what the fuck they're gonna do. Like there is no plan here. They have marathon, they know that they're kind of sunsetting, walking away from destiny, and
What's next? Like you they don't know. You don't say you're about to begin incubating when you have a fully fleshed out idea or when you've started developing your next project. Like they don't know what's coming. So I don't think that bodes well for jobs.
No. No, this is uh I as you said, I imagine the next news we'll have in the next few weeks about Bungie will be likely not cr it won't be good news. It'll be
Yeah. I hope not. I mean I hope that's not the case.
Yeah, no, I don't want that either. I just I don't see how you look at what's been said here and the unceremonious like, Hey, Destiny two is done and I don't know Destiny two has always Has has been in my understanding, has has always lagged as each expansion came out and less and less interest and probably wasn't doing as well. It wasn't showing growth, right? So But I mean World of Warcraft hasn't shown growth. It it's just steady, right? Which yeah. Seems to be fine there, but uh
I don't know. This is this was pretty shocking. I kind of expected Des Destiny 2 to just last forever, to be honest. I j I guess I took it for granted.
Well and they're not uh the thing is so they're ceasing active development. They are not like uh shutting down servers or anything else. Like the games will still be available for you to play. It's just don't expect new expansions or raids or any of that kind of content. So um yeah, it's kind of too bad. But um Yeah, we'll we'll let you guys know what happens as the rest of that story develops and we'll see what happens in the next few weeks over at Bungie.
Uh so we had uh Warhammer event, Warhammer Skulls 2026. Ryan, I I looked at this and I just see Warhammer forty K insert subtitle, Warhammer 40k insert sub ham subtitle. Subtitle Warhammer 40K. So I mean, like, what do you see here that's interesting? Cause this to me, I'm just like whoosh, way over my head.
Lot of Warhammer. Uh
Yeah, so much.
We were talking about, um, last week, uh, the Lord of the Rings IP and how their approach to Sort of Lord of the Rings games has been spotty at best and uh I had thrown out there like, oh like Warhammer is an IP that tends to be a little more con controlling of of who they offer the IP to, but uh there was some folks in the Discord being like, Yeah, there's some bad ones out there and mostly mobile as as I had uh thought, but
Um Don War 4 got a release date, September 17th. That's a big one. Uh I don't think it's being made by I don't even think Relic exists anymore. Relic was the studio that used to uh make the game. I could be completely wrong, but Um they are owned by Sega now. I don't I don't think they exist, to be honest. Uh
It says I think King King Art Games.
Yeah, so if they do exist, they are working on Sonic games. Uh I I think they helped with the Warhammer uh Total War games. They are made by a specific studio, but I think they also uh maybe they help out there or absorbed but They announced some s other sequels and stuff. I think the big thing that uh that sort of jumped out to me was uh they they provided more details about uh Bolt Gun two.
That's the one that the Discord wants me to play, right?'Cause Raoul Cooley's in it.
The first one it stars Rao Cooley. He's the I think he's the main he's the main playable character. And then the sequel, uh, has Alana Pierce as the main character, and I think Raoul Cooley is in there as well. So it's uh So it'll be an interesting one. I think that's out this summer, if I recall. Uh or no, maybe we don't. This later this year. We don't have a date.
So again, like a lot of different they they announced a Warhammer survivors game, so a survivors like, and uh it's gonna be coming to mobile and steam and everything because why not? Uh
Yeah.
Survivor title will run on anything really. Uh and there's a demo available now. But it's just it's kind of crazy to look at sort of The fact that you can have a direct for the Warhammer IP and it's just they can fill it.
Uh.
Which is awesome. And there's like a Helldivers two, whatever they call their like battle passes that is Warhammer forty K themed, which I think is such a great fit, you know? So, uh But yeah, if you love Warhammer you're eating really well with this. There's so much here to to consume, uh so Um yeah. Warhammer fans enjoy and you don't have to do any painting with this stuff, so
Yes, comes pre colored. That's exciting.
Could you imagine? Oh man, have they done um I'll just throw this out here and they can steal this idea if they want, if they're listening. But have they ever done you know how they have like the build a PC simulator? I wonder if they've done like a Warhammer minis.
Paint the Warhammer simulator, and you have to like paint everything in simulator before you can go and play the Warhammer video games.
I don't even think you get to play the Warhammer.
Black and white.
Yeah, you just make them. I think they come gray.
Yes, that they come gray.
Look, I I know a little bit I've never I've never painted them before, but I've I've seen their their prepaint and and and folks in the Discord have shared their their images after um Painting their minis and stuff. So it's I find it so neat, but I don't think I have the patience for it. But maybe in video game form, who knows? Just like power washing. I don't I don't have the patience for it in real life.
We have so so so many minis that need painting from all of our board games. So yeah, like we have Dungeons and Dragons minis. We have uh six Seven, sorry, I miscounted boxes of Horizon Zero Dawn minis that came with that board game. There's all the minis for Frost Punk. There's uh Frosthaven Gloomhaven. There the oh man, we have Minis galore. So if you ever wanna get into it, Ryan, like Come here and try ours because we have all of the supplies, all of the minis, and none of them are done.
I can't guarantee I'll be good. So
You're more than welcome to come and try. See if it's a thing you're into.
Yeah. I only own one mini and I think uh I I feel like it I have it right here. It's my DD character that I had with the campaign with Matt. I don't know if he painted these himself. I think he did.
Oh he painted them himself, yeah.
Yeah. So I think it was a it was part of the campaign we did for for uh Another one.
The only I'm like I'm totally putting him on blast right now, but those are the only it's the only painting he ever does. And he does it like manically, obsessively in the few days leading up to whenever you guys play together because he's like I've got all these minis. I wanna do them as presents for the guys. And he'll just like paint, paint, paint, paint, paint, paint, paint, and then not touch it again for like a year until you get together in person again. Like
I thought you were gonna question his wall painting skills, like but then he paints a wall and it's like it's just like slop it on and get it done, like what are we doing?
Ha ha ha. And then he painted a wall.
Look, I hate painting walls, so maybe No, that does not bode well for like you to paint minis. I I I just I'm not I'm not a I'm not a painter. I don't know. It's not my thing. Mario paint. That was the only paint that I've been able to enjoy.
Ha ha
So surprising nobody at home.
Yeah, no one is no one is surprised by that revelation. Um we're also uh Unreal Engine six got revealed and Rocket League is their like Poster child, I guess. Um they they did a big reveal today. It looks pretty cool.
I thought it was fake when I saw this announcement. I thought it was like a joke and I'm like Didn't we just get Unreal Engine?
Rocket League.
No no, nothing against Rocket League.
What we had I think what they announced was the that AI bullshit that was tied to the next thing, wasn't it? Isn't that the announcement we got recently?
They did they did have some AI stuff, I think. Uh But yeah, this is uh
No, wait. I'm not thinking about Unreal Engine. I'm thinking about NVIDIA. That's what I'm that's what I'm thinking about. It's because I just updated my graphics drivers right before this. So that's that's what I was thinking of. Yeah. I was thinking.
DLS says.
Five. Yeah.
With the with the Resident Evil.
Um yeah, like I don't I I think this looks pretty good.
Yeah, I mean, look, Unreal Engine is one of those engines that you just you take for granted. It's it it powers a lot of the games you're playing. You see the the U logo pop up as you're booting up the game. And you really don't think about it. It's come a long way. It's it's moved past it's there was a telltale sign that you had an Unreal 3 uh or possibly f uh even four engine game because they had like texture pop-ins.
you'd see them sort of pop in during like cutscenes and and busier busier scenes. And that's kinda gone away and but I just I really feel like we've just started to see the Unreal Engine five games start to hit mass market. Uh so it is I mean, always be iterating. They're look, they'll announce Unreal Engine seven in in in a in the next four or five years. But uh I mean Rocket League, I don't
I remember Rocket League looking so much more cartoony. So this this sort of official reveal, like it looks the car it looks like the cars are more real now, as opposed to like RC cars. It's it's it's a neat effect for sure. Mm-hmm.
Hm. Yeah, it's funny. I same. I remember Rocket League cars being much more kind of cartoony and like rounded. And you're right, they do look a little bit more um realistic now. But I think it suits like unlike people, I think it suits them, right? Like The I think the the realism is really cool. So yeah, I I'm honestly mostly I'm mostly surprised that Rocket League is still going to the point that Rocket League is the like poster child to show off Unreal Engine Six, but uh yeah.
Obviously, Epic is the Unreal Engine people, so they were going to do it with one of their properties, but good on Rocket League for still being relevant in 2026. Look at you go, little buddy.
Yeah.
Oh, Matt's gonna be so mad at me for this episode.
Look, I would not be opposed to uh a throwback uh Rocket League night'cause we used to play it quite a bit. I'd
We did. I was terrible. Yeah.
Look, y you're in good company.
Ha ha ha.
I am also
Well that's the thing. We just have to be playing on the same level. We just can't let Matt play. That's that's and even then he hasn't played in so long. Oh, what if Matt is terrible? Could be. Could be.
You're questioning his painting skills, now you're questioning his rocket league.
Oh yeah, I'm I'm just gonna turn around to divorce papers.
Next. Oh wow. That was quite the jump.
I don't think you understand how seriously he took Rocket League.
That's I do remember uh he w didn't he go professional for a bit? I can't remember. He was that good. And yeah, he always had to have a dummy account whenever he played with us'cause he was like
He stopped he stopped playing because um he didn't have the the like the reflexes of the, you know, teenagers anymore. So he could he couldn't keep up. He aged out. shouldn't laugh. He loved Rocket League. He played that for hours every night. But anyways, yeah, glad to see that that that's still kicking. Uh and speaking of still kicking, uh reports of new DLC for the Witcher, like Witcher three, right? Like
Yeah. Yeah. Like we don't have New Witcher yet. So uh this seems crazy to me because that Wit Witcher 3 came out, like Wild Hunt was.
Uh well this is the tenth anniversary for the Blood and Wine DLC which which was an expansion rele the last expansion release. So yeah, ten or ten or twelve years ago, I think I think I think. I feel like this is one of those times where we're gonna search it up and it's gonna be like, oh god. Oh, it was ten ten years ago, so the Wild Hunt came out. In twenty fifteen. So eleven years.
Okay.
That's not too.
Yeah, eleven years since Witcher Three and I guess ten years since Blood and Wine. Uh, which is yeah, interesting. I can't I can't believe it's been that long. I can't believe we've gone that long without a Witcher 4.
Well yeah, and I know C D Project Red it has been this uh or CD project has been this developer that has sort of one game at a time sort of thing and they have recently looked at having multiple teams they have Witcher 4 and a sequel to to Cyberpunk. 2077 in development, but the rumor has always been for a while that they were working on more Witcher 3 DLC.
To try and bridge the gap between Witcher 3 and 4, not just from a narrative perspective, but from a it's taking way too long to make Witcher 4. Uh and there was talk that the it would be announced uh at the anniversary of The Witcher 3, which would have been in May of this year, and we missed that and nothing happened. But I guess This is the anniversary of Blood and Wine, the final DLC they did, and I guess that lines up with whatever this date is, uh May twenty eighth.
And and again, the only reason I'm bringing it up here, and by the time some folks probably listen to this show, like the announcement will be made. But it's a really interesting concept from not only the standpoint of like releasing DLC a decade after the game came out, but also the hype behind this. Like Everyone's gotta be thinking like this isn't literally just a hey, we did it ten years ago, we had this really cool expansion. There's gotta be more to what they're doing here, right? Like it
They're not gonna pull a uh geek is with this, are they? Like
Ha ha ha.
Uh it would burn the internet down, I feel like. Like you don't yeah you don't have these rumors and then be like, you know what? Let's get on Twitch and celebrate this expansion that came out ten years ago for an hour and and not announce anything, you know, so
I I
I don't know. There's also the Witcher One remake that um uh not City Project's working on, but a a satellite studio I guess that's that's under their umbrella. So there's a lot that could come from this, but I just feel like it's so specific. It's a Witcher Three specific anniversary. It's DLC's anniversary.
They've already remastered the game for current generation consoles, so it can't be like a hey, we we polished it up. Like this is This is either gonna be a nothing burger and the internet will be very upset, or this is what the rumors have been pointing to, which is is new content.
I wonder if because so it says CD project uh is due to publish its latest earnings results thirty minutes after the stream begins. Um, any chance that we get a Witcher 4 release date?
Uh I mean like a window would be nice.
Celebration. Yeah, a window, I guess. I uh just'cause yeah, like we're we have no idea when it's coming, right? We've seen like a little bit of information, but nothing crazy. Um Yeah, it'd be interesting to see what they're gonna do with it.'Cause you said the stream's an hour?
I don't know how long I just Ball parking it. Um it well it sounds like it's a half hour if they're if they're announcing unless they're gonna go into the earnings call on on live. So I think it'd be about thirty minutes or so.
Which makes me think that they'll be like, and here's our release date for Witcher Four and then go into the earnings call and be like, We have a release date for Witcher Four. Please don't pay attention to the fact that we haven't done anything in ten years and we have no earnings. I know they have because obviously they've got all the don't come for me, Cyberpunk is a thing. I know. I know
It's a it's a thing that costs them a lot of money. And I think that also points to as a company while they've been successful with Cyberpunk twenty seventy seven uh development takes longer and longer and uh they haven't had a a full release. Yeah.
That didn't go well.
No.
Possible. I it did, exactly. Yeah, I was gonna say I know it's better now but Yeah, that was n that was not a good release, so
Yeah. So this'll there's talk that this DLC that they've been rumored to be working on could assist with. Uh and that's where an ear going into an earnings call they can point to and this product is available now and people can buy it and we're actually gonna sell a new thing this year as opposed to waiting for whatever.
Yeah, I wonder if if they're gonna do uh a roadmap kind of plan sort of thing. So they're getting the stream out of the way ahead of time to be like, here's our big announcement, and now we go talk to the investors and we can say This DLC is coming out this year. We've got another DLC coming out next year. Uh this is all conjecture and like n
This is just
My own thoughts and opinions. This is not official rumors. I know nothing. Just I'm getting out ahead of all that. But like if they could say. We're doing something this year, we're doing something next year, which is coming after that, like which are four is coming after that or whatever. Like that's the kind of thing that I can see them doing.
Because I feel like it's really hard to talk about bridging the gap between where the Witcher franchise is now and the Witcher four if you don't also give the information of like how big that gap is. Do you know what I mean? Yeah. That's my thinking anyway, is that if they're going to if this DLC rumor is true in the context of the earnings call, I would also expect some sort of um that's my like pie in the sky big prediction is that we get a Witcher Four date.
Or like you say, window, something, something to say, this is our plan, stay with us.
Yeah. Yeah. It it is interesting that they pair it they're pairing it with uh sort of a a a businessy sort of call afterwards and you're right, I think it is sort of the timing can't can't be ignored. Uh it's Maybe it's a coincidence, but I highly doubt it. I look, they're either gonna announce a new expansion, they're or they'll have like it'll just be like a weird
celebratory but nothing announced which would be catastrophic or they're launching their own Witcher Wine line. So I think that might be it,'cause of the expansion blood and wine.
So I'm not gonna lie, uh ten out of ten would buy a hundred percent. Like
Yeah.
So
Yeah.
Witcher wine, I would be all over that. Yeah. Unless I have to import it from the States, then forget it. But
They're
That'd be weird,'cause they're not American, yeah, so
Are they Polish? I feel like I should...
Yeah, Warsaw is Poland. Yeah. Yeah.
So there you go. You don't have to import it from the States.
Yeah, European wine. Excellent.
I don't think you can even import American wine here right now, so
Yeah.
It'll be fine.
It will be fine. And if you want to talk about how fine it's gonna be, head on over to tiny.cc slash TGI Discord. Uh that's also I think so sorry, I don't even think we said exactly when this uh stream was gonna be, but it is uh this Thursday, May twenty eighth. Uh, so if you want to talk about it as it's happening live, we usually have uh channels or threads or whatever over in our Discord to talk about live events.
So uh again, that is tiny.cc slash TGI discord if you want to join in with that conversation. You can also visit us on the web at gamersinpodcast.com and follow us over on Blue Sky.
