2024 Horror Awards Show

Hello everyone and welcome to our 2024 award show for the Friday Nightmares podcast. I am one half of your hosting team this evening, coming to you from the town of Swartz Creek in the county of Tennessee in the state of Michigan, in the United States of America, in North American continent, in the Western hemisphere, on the planet Earth, in the Milky Way galaxy. I'm fully vaccine boosted and waxed and ready to climax. And if you can, please get me wet and feed me after midnight.

I'm the man with the glorious beard, aka Mother of Cats, aka the man with the humongous ego, aka Scott Housing, aka Scotty Too hottie, aka Spanky, aka Hey Scott, and also aka Mr. Smoke Show Crawford himself. And with me, as always, is and. Also one of the most premium horror podcasters in the horror community. Real role model, actually to podcasters out there like Tim Davis and Rob Humphries that are just starting out in Matt Wood as well,

you know, I don't know. I don't know what they would do without your influence, Scott. Basically, you're a hero. I am a golden God. back to 2024. You know, y'all keep saying this and one of these days I'm just gonna be like, all right, fine, it. I ain't releasing it until 2027. Right? She'll forget if I'll forget too. We'll totally forget that it existed. I have purposely avoided nt end of year list to not be swayed. So after this we record, I'm gonna start listening to horror dummies of horror and hear what they had to say.

There's was a really good episode. Was it okay? I wanted to wait because I didn't want them to say something and it swayed my opinion because I just loved him and Daniel like a stalker. So I just, whatever they say, I just agree with. Right? I'm actually drinking my green tea from a Halloween mug and I thought of Tim. It's too bad we're not talking about the best Halloween film, Scott. Halloween ends. Oh, man, Halloween ends the best of the entire franchise.

Like, I think it's better than the OG Actually. I don't even. I mean, Tim Davis would totally agree. Like the whole idea of Michael Myers training an apprentice, I just. It's like us training Tim you know, basically we're living in the sewer. That's actually how we actually ended up being podcasters. We all met in the sewer. And Matt, what was there too. And we all just decided from there on a podcast. But I always do look

forward to our end of the year awards. Scott and I try to bring a variety of films to the table. Perhaps if you missed something last year because it is slow as molasses this year. So far, 2025, we are a couple weeks in and I have watched one movie and that was the Low Hanging Fruit on Shudder. I cannot find. There's nothing on our friends Plex. There's. I can't figure out fucking to be. To be. Can you please put years so I can fucking figure something out?

Yeah, and I haven't seen Wolfman yet, so that doesn't help. Yeah, I think there's been a total of like, at least that I've heard three releases to being theatrical. The Damned and Wolfman and Getaway on Shudder. Like, I'm sure there is more like lower budget ones that have come out, but we'll just have to wait a while. But yeah, I haven't watched a single thing from 2025 yet because I wanted to just

continue focusing on 2024 and watch a few more. I did miss some of the big hitters that people were talking about because I did go and listen to Dummies of Horror and fresh cuts. Top 10 so far. Nice. Yeah, I got to listen to theirs too. Yep, theirs was really good. Yeah, they're just. I was trying to catch. See if I could have time to

catch some movies that I didn't see. Unfortunately, I really didn't get a chance to get much done because I was hoping to watch a few at work and work got a little too busy work. So I unfortunately missed three big ones. One of them still being in theaters and that was Nosferatu Oddity and then Xisuma. Those ones I were on my list to like, definitely watch. But I did not get a chance to see those three,

unfortunately. But yeah, do you want to just kind of give your thoughts on how you felt about this year, like, going forward like this year compared to the other years? Sure. First of all, I watched no. 4A2 because I'm a real horror podcaster. I went Boxing Day while Scott took care of his fucking family. I was out watching horror movies. You know, it's funny, I went with George and he was lukewarm on it, right. And I said to him before we went in, I said, look, man,

this is Eggers. He's like, who? I'm like, oh yeah, you're. No, you're not a nerd. Robert Aeggers is a director and he has a certain style. And you may like this, you may not, and we'll see. But I will say that it kept very authentic to the original story. But it's theirs. And we were in the bar afterwards because what else do I do? Fair, right? And there was this couple there and

like I was talking to George. I said, yeah, you know, I really look forward to talking with Scott about this and my friend Mark from England, because Mark's a big fan of the original. And I'm like. And Scott will really like really like Vegas. And he loved the Lighthouse and you know, and this guy overheard me and he's like, excuse me, did you see no Ferratu? And I said, yeah, I did. He. He's like, oh, was it good? I'm like, are you an Eggers fan? He's like, I love the Lighthouse.

I'm like, you'll be fine. No, you'll be fine. I'm like, I'm like your, your partner, your friend, how does she feel? He's like, well, she's never seen any Robert of Agar's films. I'm like, oh, that's risky, dude. That's risky. I will say this is my preferred Eggers film, even over the Witch personally. And I definitely recommend Scotty when you get a chance to watch it. So Noferatu aside, I watched 170 movies this year, which is down from other years, but still like that's still

amazing. Like I hope it's better than Matt Wood, but every year Matt tries to beat me and I hope he did like Matt. If you managed to beat me, I'm proud of you and I want you to know that it means a lot to me that you care. That you're so obsessed with me hair flip that you want to beat me. I thought it was decent. I don't know. I'm not one of these people that shit on horror years, you know. We dig a lot, you and I, so we watch a lot of stuff that other people wouldn't.

I will say it was slow for international horror this year, but what did come out was great, I will say that. But I will say that it was slower for international horror. I found some decent slashers came out this year and I had a lot more fun with low budget movies this year and to be than I have other years. So overall I enjoyed this year. But I did Find some of our awards challenging. Yes. But I will say that I enjoyed,

like, when I made my top 10. It may not be everybody's top 10, because I'm gonna have stuff in here that I know not a lot of people have watched, but I was happy with it. And I. And I. The honorable mentions I gave, I. I praised them when they came out when we did our episode. And I'm glad that I'm able to go back and talk about them because all my honorable mentions, except for one, were not major releases. So I'm hoping that I can encourage people to watch that. So what

do you think? What are your thoughts? How many did. First of all, how many did you watch this year? I ended up with 113. Not bad. Not bad. Yeah. Definitely my lowest number since we started recording the podcast. Yeah. But just, you know, life got busy. I became everything. But I do plan on. I heard rumors that Nosferatu comes digitally Tuesday. Nice. So that means I will hopefully be watching it real soon just to kind of. Because I have to see it. Oh,

yeah. But yeah, for me, this year, like you said, it started off really slow and I was burnt out. Like, I was just not happy with this year at all. All the way up until I'd say the fall. And then the fall kicked in and I got to see a bunch of the movies that started getting released and I started being able to form a top 10 that I was happy with. But like, at first I was like, oh, this top 10 is not gonna be good. Like, I'm not wanting

any of these in my top 10 type deal. And eventually like a lot of heavy hitters came out towards like August, September, October into December. And now I'm very happy with my top 10. And I'll say this year ended starting off slow, but I think still was a pretty solid year. I think I like it better than last year. Awesome. Not that much. Well, and that's. And that's fair. Right? Hopefully we'll see what 2025 brings.

We got some interesting shit coming out 28 years later is coming out this year and I'm really interested to see what they do with that. Yes. And I know they're finishing off the or there are, I think the Two Strangers trilogy, like part of that trilogy is coming out this year. I think that was supposed to come out in October, but I think after the mild success that it had, like the pitiful success I had, yeah, I think got pushed back.

Right. And yeah, I'm here for any of the low hanging fruit, like the The Bambi movie, the horror Peter Pan. I'm fucking here for it. Released the trailer for the Peter Pan one. Oh, I gotta watch that shit. I. I love this. I love them and I want to make babies with them. I love them so much because they're just so fucking entertaining and they know what they are like. One thing I will say about this year is there's some low budget films out there that fucking knew what they were. Oh,

yeah. 100% not looking at you. Blumhouse not looking at you. But every other like kind of. And I'll talk about it. It will come up. It's a guilty pleasure I had. But there was some fun films that knew they were silly and rolled with it. And I respect that. I respect the game. Yeah, I was gonna say because yeah, there's going to be some more this year that will definitely be that. Know what they're rolling with because to kind of go with that whole Winnie the Pooh

timeline. Also there's that Steamboat Willie coming out with David Gordon playing Steamboat Willie. Fuck yeah, it is. I'm here for this. And the Popeye for Popeye the Slasher Man. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Give it to me, baby. Yeah. I can't wait for that. Yeah. All right, let's, let's. You've listened to all the lists now you're gonna listen to the best. You're gonna listen to no low hanging fruit here. 170 films and 113, baby. We. We watch stuff. So be prepared to

be underwhelmed. Accurate. Very accurate. All right, Scotty, why don't you start off with our first category? All right, so our first category, we're going to kind of go through all the streaming services. I did not add screen box to this because there's. I just don't have. I don't want to get another freaking streaming service. But I know they had some originals on there too. But we're starting off with the best shutter film. And for me,

my got a runner up. And of course the winner, my runner up was Infested, the French spider film. Because that movie, I just watched that fairly recently. That movie was intense. It gave me, what do you call it, Wreck meets arachnophobia vibes. It was just creeped me out. So I. Yeah, that one is my runner up. But the award will go to Late Night with the Devil that, you know, it was just fantastic and so well done. You know, Infested was Creature feature done

right. French doing it right. Like, yeah, France keep making up films. Yeah, I love how dark they Are I love you. Don't hold back. How you're like, everyone dies. How do you like that, huh? You think you're gonna live. No. You're gonna die. Right. And you're gonna die painfully too while we're at it. Like this character. Yeah, she's dead. Yep. Right. And a great use of low income apartment buildings to like just very, very well done shutter really brought it this year.

And just Scotty and I actually have no idea what's on each other's list. Usually. I can guess. I have no fudgeing idea. Like, I didn't know he was going to say Late Night with his. With the Devil was one of his favorite. Was the favorite shutter of this year. I'm shocked. Actually. I didn't see that coming. Really? Yeah, no, I just, I. I knew you liked it, but I didn't. I remember how much I fucking like basically blew it constantly. I didn't remember you. So anyway,

my runner up is Oddity. I thought Oddity was a really solid Irish film that came out this year. We've said before the Irish board, film board, they don't put out a lot, but when they put out something, it tends to be at least at the minimal, entertaining and well made. And my second, my first is. And this is going to be a shock, I think to a lot of people, but I thought In a Violent nature was fucking brilliant. Wow. Yeah. I did not choose Late Night with the Devil though.

We will bring it up later. But I thought In a Violent Nature was clever. I thought it did what I think Skinamarink tried to do last year in doing something different successfully. Now there's a fans of Skinamarink and I respect that. That was your thing. That's cool. But I thought that to show a slasher movie from a killer perspective was a big risk because there's a lot of downtime, as we all found out when you're getting

to and from Kills. But I thought that it was interesting and I thought it was probably one of the better unique movies that Shudder picked up this year. The Walking Simulator, Nature asmr, which you're not wrong. You're not wrong. You're not wrong. Right. But yeah, that one might get brought up in a certain category. We'll see. For me, that is fair. All right, what's our next category, friend? All right, so the next category is Best Netflix film. And boy, let me tell you, I only

watched one Netflix film this year. So there is no runner up. That's fair. That's fair. I tried watching that it's what's inside. But I couldn't stand the characters and them talking over top of each other that I gave up half an hour in. So the only one that I'm going to give props to to is Under Paris because that was a fun ass shark movie. Yes, it was gory. It was. It gave me happiness to see those psycho eco terrorist type people just get their comeuppance and. Yeah, just lots of good bloody

shark action. Just what I wanted from that movie. Yeah. And I'm not sure if you know this, but I went to Paris this year. Oh, no. Did you really? You never said anything about that. You know, that's for Rob, because I never talk about my trips to Europe and how well traveled I am. Never. I agree with you. That was a really fun film and it actually did a

really good job as. And I'm not saying this to be nerdy, but being in that location earlier that year and then seeing it in film, I will say they captured it really well because I was there when they were setting up for the Olympics. So there was kind of some of the same stands and stuff like that and. Oh, yeah, yeah, right. So I, I agree, though, that is not what I selected. So I was able to get through. It's what's Inside

and that was my runner up. Oh, wow. Yes, I. I did enjoy the context of the film. There's a lot of debates of whether this is considered horror or not. And I'm really Scott and I don't get into that. I thought it was horror enough. I consider it a horror film. I think if you can get past the, I don't know, the pretentiousness of some of the characters, it might be a good one for you. If not, I would see. There's Erica with her bag.

Hi, Erica. Heather says hi. Erica's making her special guest appearance today in the episode it's what's Inside. And that's why Erica fell in love with Scott. It's because of what's inside of Scott. Yeah. All those guts and hearts and. Yeah. She says hello to you, Heather. If you didn't hear, I know I heard her. I heard her. Don't worry. I always hear my girl. Don't worry. I know her voice. And then I thought, the best Netflix film. So this film came out and there wasn't a lot of talk about it.

It's an international film. It's outside, and it's a different take on zombie outbreak and I really recommend it to people. I think if you're zombied out. This is a refresh. It tells it from a different perspective of the survivors. And I really do think if you skipped over this one this year, it is definitely worth going back and watching. And again, Netflix brings the international horror so outside. Check it out. Nice. Yeah, this is one that I wanted to check out

just once again. Never got around to it. But yeah, the next category, this one's kind of tough, but it's a Best on Demand film. So I kind of had just like look to see what was available to rent because that's how I look at On Demand. Yeah, same thing you got to pay for to rent and everything. But I don't want to go through the entire freaking list of movies that I've watched to

see what was to rent what was not. So I went through basically my top, like 50 of them and just kind of was picking from them. My runner up would be the found footage film, Frogman. Yeah, good movie movie. That one was awesome. Body horror. It actually had a, you know, really good found footage aspect. The mythological creature, the story behind the folklore. For that was awesome.

Really fun found footage film. But my number one or my top award for this one goes to the so special indie Michigan based Deer Camp 86. Loved this movie so damn much. All the characters were enjoyable. They threw away your typical stereotypes of, oh, the big, big chunk, big fat guy is gonna be the funny comedian throughout the whole thing. Like it actually made him like serious roles and the whole story about basically, you know, Native Americans getting treated like shit and stuff like that and

them getting their revenge. Awesome, fun movie, you know, with more but more money behind it. It would have probably like had a much cooler effects. But what they did I thought was wonderful. It was such a great movie altogether. I. I agree. I. We will bring that up later. I thought the year Camp 86 was fucking excellent and an example of like medium to low budget done right. I for Best on Demand,

same thing. There's a lot of stuff that laps over with other streaming services, but I felt that a good runner up for me because we don't put this category on here and that's Paramount because Paramount doesn't always drop a lot of stuff, but you can rent it. And that was apartment 7A. I thought that was a really solid On Demand film that came out this year. I'm a lukewarm on Rosemary's Baby, so the fact that I enjoyed apartment 7A as much as I did was a shock to me, to be honest. But I really,

really liked that one. And one of the Ones that I thought was really a good On Demand didn't make a theater release, but I hope more people watch. It is humane by Clayton. Caitlin Cronenberg. I thought that was a really interesting topic. I like her style. Very different from her dad and brother, but similar in ways. And I thought that was a really solid film that came out this year. Yeah, both those are very excellent choices because I enjoyed both those films. Like excellent.

I wouldn't have. I didn't even think about humane. But yeah, that would have possibly have been a runner up for me as well. Well, I'm loving that our lists are so different so far because I think that's nice. Instead of us just saying the same film over and over again, so. Right. And I'm sure I'll be repeating a lot of films later on as the list goes on just because like you said earlier, these awards this year were a bit tougher than normal.

Yeah, they were a little bit tougher. But I guess we can jump on to the next one. The best Amazon prime film. And the way I did this one for me was I looked when we were doing the awards, see what is available on Amazon prime right now. Could be the actual. Could be an Amazon. Could be an Amazon original or whatever. I don't think I've seen any Amazon originals this year. I don't think they came out with any. If I can remember correctly. I don't remember any.

I don't know if the one I picked was an Amazon original. I know, it's just. It was for free on it on Prime. Yeah. And that's kind of how I went with this one. Yeah. So my runner up was the one that I talked about very early on this year that gave me Psycho Gorman vibes and that is the wrestler turned babysitter movie Here for Blood. This movie was so charming and fun and gory and silly. I just had a blast with it. And it is free on prime right now. So if you have not seen it, check it out.

It's definitely low budget done, right. Totally. But the one that I ended up choosing for my award was Abigail. Yeah, it was a theatrical watch, but at the same time, like, it's on prime right now. So I picked that one because Abigail was just a really fun, fun horror film. I won't say what kind of horror film just in case people haven't watched it yet. Yeah. But all around, I thought that one was a blast. Lots of. Once again, lots of gore.

Had some good comedic moments and had some good tense moments. Agreed to very solid picks. So prime is always different up in Canada. What we get access to. Yep. And the prime film that really stood out to me this year was Blink Twice. Oh, yeah. I thought that was really, really solid. I. I thought that it was heavy. I do, as always give a little bit of a warning for that one just because of the nature of the sexual violence that they talk

about in it. But it is a very, very solid film. All three films on prime. Solid, solid watches for this year actually. Did you not have a runner up or was I. No, that was it. Blink Twice was for what we had on Canadian Prime. That's fair. Yeah. All right. So I guess I'll move on to the next one then. But yeah, that. That is one movie I once again did not get a chance to watch. It was on the list. I wanted to see it. But it will

be something I will watch eventually for sure. Yeah, totally. This one. This one was not many choices but best Hulu film. So I put a runner up just because I only watched two. So the runner up is carved. Yeah. Fun. It was fun. It was fun. I'd say the first half hour. So first half movie was awesome. But I think they blew their load a little too early because it started dragging out after that. But killer, killer pumpkin. It was silly. It was lighthearted. It was a Halloween themed

movie. So it just fit and it was fun. But my award went to Mr. Crockett. I thought the way that was also released around the same time on Halloween. I think it was there. Ulu wean or whatever you call it. But Mr. Crockett is also just fun. Basically about a 70s style TV host. Like Mr. Rogers neighborhood and all that stuff. Except he's kidnapping your children. The children that are being that have been having bad

lives like their parents and everything like that and just taking them away. But another kind of fun creepy movie. Yeah. Obviously there's two choices here. So. Mr. Crockett. But I actually really honestly. Even if Hulu had come out with other stuff, I don't know if something would beat out Mr. Crockett for me. I thought the one liners were so like Nightmare on Elm Street 3 and I'm now raining, raining reading Rainbow Motherfucker is still. Yes. One of my favorite lines of the year.

I thought it was. It's a simple paint by numbers foam. You're not looking at anything super special here. But it was so palatable and easy to watch. It was a good cleanser for if you've watched some heavier stuff that came out this year and then you wanted to, like, watch something just stupid and, like, somewhat predictable. Right. But yeah, I dug. I dug Mr. Crockett a lot. So. Brobo, Hulu, you brought two. At least the carve was okay. But you know what? You definitely did a good orgasm

with Mr. Crockett. You did a good job, Lou. You did a good job. Yep. I'll say I was happy with both of them, but this one. This one, I had a lot of choices to choose from because horror was very prevalent in the theater this year. Absolutely. So this one is our best theatrical release. And yeah, there were a lot of heavy hitters to choose from. So my runner up was actually really freaking tough because there were so many choices. I ended up going with Alien Romulus. Good film.

Because good film. I just thought this was an excellent sequel. Like, sequel, prequel, wherever you want to call it. In between. And they got the look and everything down perfectly for that 80s vibe. The. I can look past the awful CGI use of a certain character. I kind of look at it as. Yep, he was a droid anyways, so it kind of just fits. The only issue I have is just the one liner at the end to get away from her, you bitch. It just. I didn't like

the way that was used in this movie. And they could have just done something different with it. But still, all around an Alien movie that actually made face huggers more terrifying than the fucking Xenomorphs. Mm. I agree. I agree. That was my runner up, but my number one film. I had so much fun in the theater with this one. I've watched it four times already since. Since it came out, and I just grin ear to ear every single time. And that is Terrifier three. I knew it.

This was exactly what I wanted from the next movie in the Arc the Clown saga. And yep, Damian Lyod and David Howard Thornton just brought it again with some amazing gore. And for what Heather doesn't like, but the more comedic side of art, but also the sadistic side of him, at the same time, I. I love it. And yeah, it just makes me grin ear to ear. And yeah, I've already watched this four times this year, and each time I just smile ear to ear.

That's why you're only at 113 films. You just keep watching Terrifier 3. That's why. Exactly. That's funny. Well, I'm glad that we have different movies. I had a feeling my runner up is Nosferatu. I think that never ever would. I would have said never ever a Robert Akers film. I would Give an award to, but you know, you can't. This movie is very good, even if it's not your preference. The cinematic development of it, the acting, the costume design, it's just. It's.

It's a really solid film. And I always. I hope I say this right. You corrected me on it before. Heretic, I felt, was the. The best theatrical release to come out this year. And there were good ones. Like, I agree with both of your selections. I think those are actually very solid movies. And there were some other ones, too, that were quite good that came out this year. Not looking at you, Blumhouse. Not looking at you, but disgust at you, Blumhouse. Yeah. Fucking Blunt and Lionsgate. Fuck off.

Lionsgate and Blumhouse. Anyway, both. Both solid, actually. All four movies. We just said solid theatrical releases this year. Glad to see that they've done well. Nosferatu did very well. So did Herrick, Heredit, and I don't know how Alien Rami Ness did. I hope it did okay. Oh, it did. Amazing. Okay. An amazing theater. And then obviously Terrifier three was like, once again, yeah, the talk. Because it just, like, quadrupled. Like, actually, no, I think it, like, times eight.

Its budget back. Like, it was just a huge success. Huge. Just amazes me that something like that violent and gory is getting such huge success in the big screen. I'm like, it makes me so happy. Fuck yeah, baby. That's all I can say. Fuck yeah. Yeah. So this year in theaters, theater watches was awesome. And actually, it's kind of funny because both of those movies on my list were ones that Erica and I both were actually able to get out of the theater or get out

of the house to go see in theaters. That's true. And the ones you mentioned were both ones that. Well, ones that I will be having. To watch at home, which hopefully you like. I think you'll enjoy both of them. They're both solid. So I did see Heretic. I really liked Heretic. Oh, yeah, that's right. Yeah. But, yeah, Nosferatu. I already know I'm good. I already have a feeling. Oh, I know you're going to like it. Oh, I know.

Oh, yes. Oh, now it comes to the final streaming service, and that is the best to be originals. Now, these are always fun because 2B is kind of like the Lifetime or Hallmark movie of horror films. Very easy to watch. Very. Just kind of charming in their own right. A lot of not very good ones, basic ones. This year brought some interesting ones. And I will say I have a feeling That I might be hearing about this one later from Heather. But runner up is Slay, drag queen from Dusk Tilt Dawn.

I freaking had a blast with this one. The queens in this were hilarious characters. Were all just a lot of fun. Definitely worth your time to watch. But for me, my award goes to Lowlifes. Because that one was freaking awesome and kind of horrific and caught me by surprise with a lot of the things that happened to it. Like very good horror film. You know what this is? Our list is the same because, well, I realized I put Deer Camp on here, but I don't think it was

an original. Yeah, it was not a to be original. So shouts out to Deer Camp. 1986 Gear Tamp 86 still freight. Great film. But Lowlifes definitely is my number one. And Slay, I thought, I thought they were great. I thought they were both really fun. And good job, Tubi. Good job. That was so much fun. Both of them were. Yes. 100%. 100%. Ooh. And now we get to some of the fun awards. Yes. Once you're done. All right, so next

we will be moving on to best Bloodbath. I almost put Terrifier three in here, but then I realized when I think of Bloodbath, I think of like slaughtering a bunch of people. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Yeah. Art the Clown didn't really do like a mass slaughter. Besides like in the mall with the bomb. Yeah, yeah. So I took that one off the list and I sat here. This one was one of those where I had to sit and think about it for a minute. I stewed on and stewed on it.

So my runner up ended up being under Paris when the shark just slaughters the entire eco save the world people that were in the sewer just one by one by one. And it was just a nasty ass bloodbath. That one popped into my head. So I was like, yep, gotta add that to my runner up. But my number one was Winnie the Pooh Blood and Honey two at the river Rave scene. Like they just went on that killing spree. You know what? Same sees though, I could say Winnie the Pooh, Blood and Honey. The entire

film. Yeah. Because the rape scene. Absolutely. But I just find that movie so over the top, gory, bloodbathy movie. It's just so fun. I don't have a runner up. Winnie the two Blood and Honey for Life, baby. Awesome, awesome, awesome movie. Hell. Wow. We actually a couple awards that are similar. I'm surprised. Yeah, yeah. But it's Bloodbath, right? Like you kind of gotta it's harder. Right. I did find that there were some blood. Like there were some good kills this year. But when

I thought about Blood Bath. Yeah. It was the only movie that came to mind. Yep. Same like it's right. Like I said, I was thinking Terrifier, but I'm going, wait, no, no, that was just individual kills. Yeah, that were great. Yeah. Speaking of kills. Individual kills. Yes. This next one is best kill of the year for me. My runner up will be a mentioned shout out to good old terrifier 3 with the liquid nitrogen kill on Santa Claus. Yeah, it was great.

Everyone mentions Jason X. Oh, that liquid nitrogen kill by Jason X. That is baby's game compared to this. This was brutal. The way he just did individual pieces of this guy's body with the liquid nitrogen and then just smashed it with a hammer or just. And then rip the guy's beard off to wear as his own Santa outfit later. It's like, oh, my God, this. I just remember when watching this in theaters, I was laughing and Erica's just turning away.

She's like, nope, I can't do this one. Oh, my gosh, it was so good. It. The kills in Terrifier three were fucking epic. Yeah. But my best kill. I bash this movie. I make fun of this movie, but I gotta give credit where credit is due. And that is the yoga hill kill scene in a violet nature. While the liquid nitrogen kill was awesome, it wasn't completely original. Where the yoga scene.

I don't think I ever seen someone's head get kind of pulled backwards and shoved back through their stomach and back up again. That was a unique kill. It was wild. That was a wild fucking kill. My runner up, it's the Mousetrap, the final kill. Yes. Because I thought that final kill came out of fucking nowhere. It's like it was so funny. And yeah. Shouts out to the mousetrap. And my best kill was Terrifier three, the shower seam. I thought that was very, very creative and

always great practical effects. And we'll. And that kind of puts a kibosh on the people that. And say that Terrifier is a women bashing movie. Yeah. Misogynistic movie. I think that was Damien Leone's response to that. And I do love how he listens and he's like, oh, yeah, I love it. Yeah, I really respect the game there. But yeah, those are my two. That is my favorite kills of this year. And yeah, that I'll say. I can't argue with either of them either.

Those are both great. The next Category, someone you can get behind. And we can have two choices here. So, of course, I gave this to this character two years ago and I'm gonna give it to her again. And that is sienna from Terrifier 3 because she is just a badass final girl. And also Frodo the cat from Quiet Place, day one. Fair enough. That was probably the best part about that movie. I was rooting for that cat the entire time. I love it. My runner ups are Sister Barnes and Sister Paxton from

Heretic. I have never felt such anxiety for two young women and appreciated the setup with wanting to convert someone to their faith and then trying to outsmart and play a game with somebody who is so manipulative and cruel. And they're so. I don't want to say pure, but not that kind of person. Very, very of their faith. Yes. Theory of their faith. I thought they were fabulous. And someone who I

really did get behind. And even though not a lot of people always love his movies, I thought this character was pretty good. And that was Lady Raven from Trap. I thought she, you know, in. In a. Obviously you can poke holes in the situation she got into, but in the scene where she manages to get the cell phone from the killer, I thought was pretty clever and what she does with it. So I enjoyed her quite a bit. And those were my two that I

really felt for this year. Yeah, I would not have expected Lady Raven for that one. That's a good choice. Yeah. Yeah. We're bringing in the variety now. It's good. M. Night. M. Night Shyamalan definitely does not know how concerts work because what concert gets over with and it's still daylight out for one. I know, right? But like, that's okay. We're all gonna just. And a lot of stuff in that movie that happens wouldn't happen. But. But still a fun movie.

Still a fun movie. And I thought that she portrayed a protagonist in that ending scenes. Well, yeah. So very good choices. This one's going to be fun. Someone you. Who you can hate or fear. Two can be named here. I named two movies, not two characters. Okay. So he sees you when you're sleeping. The entire family. I hated these people and I wanted everything bad to happen to them. They were just despicable characters. And the movie in general just kind of sucked.

Fair enough. Fair enough. But then the other one, once again, everybody in imaginary. Everybody in general. Actually Blumhouse is the real villain of the year because. Jesus Christ, that movie angered me beyond belief. And everyone was acting so fucking dumb and stupid or psychotic. They're vibe to pick one dumb character out of them all and that I couldn't. They were all fucking dumb. They're all annoying. They were all stupid. And I wanted everything bad to happen to every one

of them. That is fair. I love the anger. I had a hard time with this one because I thought there was some really good antagonists this year. I have two honorable mentions and because it's our show and we can do what we want, I'm going to do it anyway. Cooper from Trap, played by Josh Hartnett. Slow cap Josh Hartnett. Like performance of the year. Like one of them anyway. Hugh Grant from Heretic. Another like someone that was incredibly like two

people that I was like, ah, yeah, whatever. And then being like, oh, right, wow, right. But my official runner up is sue from the Substance, Demi Moore's younger version of herself. I found that chicken annoying. I hated her and that was the emotion I was supposed to feel. I was supposed to hate her. And I felt so bad for Demi Moore and. And why she had made these choices to, you know, create this younger version and.

But I think the biggest asshole of the year or someone you can be afraid of is Slater King from Blink Twice because that's probably not far off. P. Diddy of power doing things to people. And there's. There's a part in it that is so intense where Slater Kling says some stuff that is so scary of what we've heard in mainstream media. Apologies that it's fucked. It's fucked. This was a good year for villains like villain Character development this year I thought was

really strong. Yeah, I can definitely agree with that one. That for Blumhouse. Yes, yes. I feel like everything. I'll be like, everything was good. Except for Blumhouse. Except for Blumhouse. Just get out of the goddamn pool. Oh my God. With the AI movie, we're not going to go into it. Fucking horrible. Anyway, so this next award was the one that I saved for very last figure out because I was struggling to think of something for this and that is best tearjerker moment in horror.

I was going through my list over and over and over and over. Nothing was connecting or jumping out. And then I talked to Erica about it and I was like, I just can't think of anything. And she's like. I'm like, I might have to leave this one blank. And she's like, you could. Well then she brought this up and I was like, oh, yes. Yeah, absolutely. So once again, I am bringing up

Frodo the cat. But when. Oh, the Peter Nyong'o gives Frodo the cat to the other guy and he obviously jumps off the dock into the water with the cat, which is totally unbelievable. The cat would just chill. But when he escapes with the cat and she stays behind, like that did kind of tear me up because I was like, I could just picture, you know, letting go of my cat and something like that. So yeah, that one, that one did, I remember, did bring a tear

to my eye when I seen that scene. So I was like, I'm glad she brought that one up because at the the time I just was not thinking of it. You're like, I didn't fucking cry this year. I'm not a fucking pussy. Oh no. I'm happy to admit that I cry when I need to. Just. There was nothing this year that just really hit me besides that. I cried that I wasted my time with some movies this year. Fair, I cried about that.

A tearjerker moment that happened early on in 2024, which probably affected me more than it affected other people, but it touched me. In my place was Clear Mind. The child drowning and the mother's grief really hit home for me this year and where it leads her to and the confrontations she has felt really raw. So that was my runner up. And a kill scene that occurs in the basement of Heretic where you think somebody is going to be successful and they are not.

That that made me sad. So unlike Scott who had no feelings this year except for the cat, I had two sets of feelings this year. Yeah, because like honestly, like Clear Mind may have actually been a might runner up because. But when I had Clear Mind on a couple different lists because I create my own lists on Facebook or on Letterbox, but they're all private so no one can see them. It's just for me to remember. Oh yeah, these things gave have can fit these awards.

Clear Mind was in a lot of them, but I'm. I was struggling to remember anything from the movie so I completely forgot that happened. That's fair. That's fair. Right? But yeah, like so yeah, that one would probably been on my runner up if I remembered. But yeah, that one just completely like I was like, that was this year. I know because it was so early on in the year. Right? Yeah, yeah. But the next one, Best Feel

good horror film of the year. Even though I didn't really like this movie, my runner up was Lisa Frankenstein because it just gave that Tim Burton esque vibe of bright colors and feel good and blah, blah, blah. I couldn't stand the Main character thought she was kind of a bitch and like the movie itself was. But that one kind of fat still felt like a feel good movie to me. I agree. But the one that I added to for the award was Slayer. I. I just felt like that one just gave me

a feel good vibe. Especially towards the end when the bartender just comes out in full drag and is accepted and just finally, yeah, realizing who he is and stuff like that. And I'm like, yeah, bravo movie. Bravo. Awesome. I'm, I'm so glad Members Club was my runner up. I thought first of all, these guys in their 50s being strippers were fucking hilarious. Matt Wood suggested to this to me because of my love of a good mind on a man and a good personality.

He was right. There was lots of big personalities in this movie. I thought it was hilarious. I had a really good chuckle with this. And of course, my number one is Slay. I thought Slay was very funny and feel good and fluffy and, and just easy to digest. And again, a nice little palate cleanser. Same with Members Club. Neither one of these movies are like, oh man, they're the best that come out this year. They're silly, but they know

they're silly and they're not trying to be something. That they're not exactly. No, but I like, I like that. I wish I would have seen Members Club because I remember you told me to watch that just once again. Never got around to it, unfortunately. Well, if you're ever having like a fluffy day where you just want to watch something silly, it's a good, silly little thing to put on. Which I will definitely probably have to do at some point. Yeah. Because.

Yeah, after this, this category is when you need to watch something fluffy. Yeah. Because it is the punch in the gut category where basically just this movie just hits you so hard in the feels and. Yeah. And it's uncomfortable or whatever. I couldn't think of a runner up for this one, but I knew right away what movie got my award and that was Coffee Table. The entire movie was a fucking punch in

the gut from beginning to end. Just the what happens and then just the dialogue and awkwardness going on throughout the rest of the movie to what happens at the very end. Oh, this, that, that one just. Yeah, it punched me in the gut, kicked me in the balls and kicked me in the head. I would agree with you. That was a. It was a. It was heavy for me. It was the ending in Nosferatu. Obviously I won't expand on that because it's still in theaters and people haven't always

watched it yet. And lowlifes. The ending of lowlifes. I remember being like, what the fuck? Like, I remember being angry at the outcome. And it's funny because that was early on in the year. Noferatu was literally at the end of the year. So I. I bookended and started the year with getting punched in the gut. That's basically what we learned from this list today. And we. And we apparently are masochists because we like getting beat up. We certainly do, apparently. Right.

So the next one to kind of go back could be a good thing or a bad thing. Depends on how you look at it. All the feelings, really. Best relationships and horror films. I put this one as a runner up. This one. Because this was another one where I was struggling to think of a good movie to fit at first. But the runner up was the vampire next door. The relationship between the female vampire that this kid meets that he lives next door to. Like,

they ended up building this, like, really strong bond. And I. Really good. That was a good movie. Yeah. And I really like their relationship between the two of them. But my award has to go to. Because we discussed this one when we first watched it early on and about how this would probably fit this award. So I'm kind of curious to see if it's sitting in yours. But here for Blood, the wrestler and the girl that he babysat because they were such an amazing little

relationship together. Like, because when we say relationship, it doesn't mean romantic. It means brother, sister, friends, whatever relationship you can think of. And the dynamic between these two, because in most babysitter type movies, the babysitter is dealing with a little kid. That's an. And no. These two got along wonderfully. And they, like, were. The babysitter was there to protect the little girl, and the little girl was helping him. And they, like, they had this amazing

interaction together. So that one relationship of the year for me. That's awesome. I love it. My runner up was Alberta and Ebony from Jackson, from Deliverance. Which are. Yeah, Deliverance on Netflix. Oh, okay. I did that. The mom and Glenn Close and her daughter. I thought that that was a really good reflection of how they had each other's back. Not the best movie, but I do think that their

relationship really stood out to me. And then the other relationship that really stood out to me was Sister Paxton and Sister Barnes from Heretic. I felt like that was, you know, another example of two people that had each other's back right to the end. Yep. I completely agree, like, the the never. I never did see Deliverance. And when you meant when you said Deliverance, completely forgot even came out this year. I was thinking the old Deliverance, the. One that was on Netflix this

year, which is, you know, hit or miss for a lot of people. But I will say the relationship between mother and mother or grandmother, fucking solid. Like it was. It was a solid, solid relationship. Nice. Yeah, those are definitely like, I'm liking how. Yeah, we have a lot different common. Yeah, it's all good. That's good. I'll be curious about this one because I don't remember there being a lot of. Neither did I. I really had to pull for this one.

So this is. Didn't see that coming. Best twist in a movie, Twist, ending twist wherever is how I look at it. My runner up was he found a footage film I was not really a fan of, like by the end. But the twist I had to give props to. And that is hashtag missing couple. Because you are following this guy who is like looking for his friends that were a couple that went missing. But then you find out that they went. They disappeared off. Like they went off the grid because

he's not really one of their friends. He was a stalker fan that was stalking them everywhere. And when you find that out, it's like, oh, oh. Like it completely caught me by surprise. And like. And that's not even like, you know, the bad thing that happens to the couple. It's something completely different than that. That's just like a reveal that goes on. Like towards the third act, I'm going, oh, shit. I did not see that. So bravo on that runner

up. But mine, twist, best twist ending was there was a couple of them in this movie and it wasn't even ending. Just right in the beginning and I think right in the middle. But that's lowlife. Yeah, man. Excellent. Yeah, that was a really. Those. I was going to say that one but because I'd already brought it up, I was trying to bring different things to the table. So the one I brought

was the last straw. And the reason why is because even though there is a twist you can predict, there's a little razzle dazzle in the twist that I'll be honest, I was like, oh, shit, I didn't think that part right. Like, I didn't think that this character did that. And I thought that was kind of clever for a movie that I thought was going to be 100% predictable. It did kind of sway it a little bit for me, which I did appreciate. So. Yeah. But I Would agree with you. Not, not a lot of twisty,

twisty this year. But that's okay. That's okay. Because I figured when we seen the trailer that trap was going to be some type of big crazy twist. And it really wasn't. No, it really wasn't. It was kind of like. Yeah, yeah. So this is the shit, right? Yeah, this is what happened. Yeah. Right. All right, so this one will be interesting. Surprisingly surprising low budget film. I will definitely give Runner up to Deer Camp 86. Fuck yeah. Great film. Great fucking

film this year. Great film. I think it was made for a couple thousand dollars. I don't think it was made for more than that actually. Like, I think it was only like 5,000 to $10,000. And bravo. It was very well done. They. They were smart the way they filmed it and everything. Then the award though, while I have kind of bashed it at the same time, I got to give it to him. And that is the out of Nowhere made for $800 YouTube movie that popped up as a found footage called Milk and Cereal.

I was not really a fan of this movie, but I gotta give it props. $800. And to make what he did, and apparently from what I was reading is he had. It has an hour and a half long full length feature film version of this where this one was only I think like 55 minutes long. But he had a full length feature film version of this but he could not get find a distributor that would back him. So he said it, cut it down to less than an hour

and released it on his YouTube channel. Good for him. Yeah. And it blew up. So like the. As many people as I seen talk about this film, I got to give him props. Like 800 and you got people talking about your film. That's amazing. Agreed. Agreed. I think when you are able to do that on a true low budget, like a true low budget, I think that's very, very impressive.

Two movies that came out this year that I really stood out to me as really good low budget films was the group that came out earlier this year that is based upon a recovery addict group and There is a Secret and a Gunman shows up and it's just suspense between these characters sitting in a room over who did what is a British film. And that one, yeah, it came out earlier in February or March of last year. So I thought that was a very, very solid,

well made film. And then my favorite little budget of the year was last night at Terrence Lane's. I thought that was a really good, fun little Budget movie as well as the ones you meant. I hadn't seen Milk and Cereal, but I do agree about Deer Camp 86. But yeah, those were. Those were the two that I thought were worth the low budget this year and. Or not worth the low budget. Were surprisingly low budget and good, I thought, for what they are. I thought they were excellent. Yeah,

exactly. Like, gotta give props to the filmmakers for these. Exactly right. And so we'll go up to the other version of this. The other end. Yes. Worth the high budget. So my runner up, I think this was made for 50 or 60 million. And that is the first Omen. I was completely blown away by this. I did not think I was going to like it because I'm like a prequel to the Omen. And then this came out and I'm going, holy shit. Did they just show that on the theatrical screen? Did they just show a demonic

hand coming out of a woman's vagina up close? What the hell did I just watch? Totally the acting and the storyline and everything. Like, thought it was excellent. Like it was a really good prequel. Yeah. And definitely worth the high budget. I. Yeah. Do you. Oh, is that your first? Sorry, you have two. That was. Yep. That was my runner up. Okay. But then my award got to go to Alien Romulus. Oh, yeah. I agree. Recreating everything like they did, the effects, the acting,

the. Just everything about the sound design, the look of it, just everything worked perfectly. I agree. I. That's my runner up. I thought that that was a really high quality film. And I thought Under Paris actually was worth the high budget. I thought it was fluffy, it was fun, that could have been cheap to made to make. And I thought it was a really, really solid, entertaining movie for the budget that was put into it. I completely agree. Right. That's a good choice. Thank you.

These ones were a little more tough at first. Yeah. But I kind of came up with some other ones that I feel fit. So most politically relevant, this one. I know if I had seen Blink Twice, it would definitely be in this category, I'm sure. But the runner up I gave to David Cronenberg's daughter. I forget what her name was. Katherine Cronenberg, I think. Caitlin. Caitlin Cronenberg. Yeah. But humane. Just the way the story plays out. Very politically relevant.

But in my award, though, goes to what's his name? He did the movies Annihilation Men and all these other ones. I can't think of his name off top of my head, but his movie Civil War. Like, I could see this happening in America very Very soon, the way everything's gone, that's going to. Yeah, it's kind of scary, isn't it? Yeah. Yeah. I. I never saw Civil War, but my most political relevant movie was Blink Twice. I had a Feeling. Also known as the P. Diddy Story. Yeah. But not.

But very, very good film. Very, very relevant. And I felt that it just hit the nose on the. On the. I'm sorry, the ham. The hammer on the nail this year. Nice. You didn't have a runner up? No, I. To keep me from repeating certain movies over and over again, I tried to space it out a little bit. All right, that makes sense. So, yeah, we'll go to the next one, which kind of coincides with politically relevant, but it's most reflective of the year 2024.

So I try to find movies that kind of hit a social commentary on things that are kind of what happened in this year for the most part. And my runner up, I ended up choosing Heretic because the main villain, what is he doing? He is trying to make these people question their fate. And there is a lot of people that are falling out of a religion nowadays and people questioning their faith and people changing their faith to fit what suits them. So I felt that was very relevant of kind of like

the last year. But the main one goes to the substance. This one goes on all the time. But it's just an older woman who has lost her young vigor, beauty, or whatever you want to call in Hollywood, holding them to a higher standard, causing what she does to herself. And it's just the sad truth of things. Agreed. I think that that is a really great example. Both of those are very much relevant of 2024. With the ending of Tick Tock Today in America.

Yeah, there's going to be a whole lot less of this, but I felt like it was very relevant to what this movie was trying to say. Much like her father, she likes to integrate political messages into her film. Clearly. And that is Watchers. I felt this movie really played on the reality tv, social media. Not directly, but it was. It was about being watched and the observation of it and just watching. And there was a lot of

connections in that. I don't love what they did with the fairy folklore, the Irish folklore, and I'm sorry if that's a spoiler, but this movie came out like a long time ago, so hopefully no one's mad at me for saying that, but I thought that it was very relevant to the theme of watching and how people engage in that. So. And that was my only one that's. A very good choice too. I didn't even think about variety. We did a variety. Spice of Life. Spice of life.

Yes. Look at us. We're getting better. Because some years we would have the exact same thing over and over again. And that's. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah I was gonna say. And I figured I'd be doing a lot of repeating but I don't think I did as much repeating this year. No, I really tried to be more like, okay, if I'm giving this something, why am I going to get it a billion times unless it really deserves it? Right? Yeah. And there's coming up I'll have a lot of repeats. But that's

just because they deserve it for what I was in my head. Absolutely right. So the next one though Most overhyped film in our personal opinions. I didn't have a runner up for this one but for me in a violent nature was so over hyped. I was bored to death watching this and it was like I said, a walking simulator as nature asmr I the crunching of the leaves and the chirping of the birds. As much as I love nature, it ended up being grading on my ears.

This was a gimmick for gimmick's sake and it would not have done so well if it was not for that gimmick. You're probably not wrong. Like let's be real here. You're probably not wrong. Right. I have two because I was really mad at both of these movies. You're wasting my time. One was Night Swim. I just don't to Scotty's point. Why wouldn't you just drain the pool? Yeah, don't go

fucking women. Right? And then I think what I was so like, you know was really presented that it was going to be really good and then just seemed like a pointless remake. Was the Strangers Chapter one. I don't even understand. I really hope hope the next two movies make this remake make sense because it was just dumb, dumb, dumb dumb characters. Dum dum writing dum dum jump scares. Dum dum dum dum dum dum dum dum dum

dum dum. Like it was just dumb, dumb dumb dumb. I remember I'll never forget when we were talking about it, I was like, I said it and then you sighed and I went anyway on to the next one and we weren't in. We laughed because we're like what are we going to talk about? Like go back and watch the original. Don't watch this. Like it's just. I don't know, we'll see what happens with the next two. Maybe they build on something here and all you will be proven wrong. I hope so.

I hope so. But I highly doubt it. But I just thought it was so over hyped this year and just not a good film. So. Yeah, I completely agree. Yeah, I know, right? Oh, now this one is the next category. Much more fun. What we think was under hyped or just not talked about enough. Runner up for me was I feel this franchise does not get talked out, talked about enough because I watched the entire franchise this year for the first time and was just like,

why does no one talk about this? This is fucking really good. Solid franchise all the way through. And that is the sequel, the Blackwell Ghost 8. Oh yeah. You know that is underhyped. Definitely. I never hear anyone talk about it. Yeah, I watched all eight of these films and they're all anywhere between seven or eight out of ten. None of them were bad. They were all just really well done movies. Yeah. So that is my runner up. But of course, once again I got to give love to this Michigan film.

And that is the award goes to Deer Camp 86. Yeah, except for us. Yeah, well, that's what happens when you're premium podcasters. I found out my co worker Heather, or as we like to call her H dizzle at work, she mentioned, hey, have you seen deer camp 86? I'm going, fuck yes I have. And she was like, we were at Walmart and my boy seen the COVID of this and said, because I guess the DVD or Blu Ray was there. And he goes, oh, can we buy this? I want to watch it.

And she's like, we bought it just on a whim. We came home and watched it. Holy shit, that movie was awesome. I'm like, right? It's not getting talked about. So yeah. Dear Camp 86, watch it people. I agree, I agree. So my two and sorry, Matt Wood, I know you weren't a fan of this film, but I was so. So go have a pint. Kill your lover I thought was a great body horror film. I know Dave Bailey, Sander Kane also appreciated this one. You saw it too, right? No, this is what

I completely forgot about. And I was wanting to watch it. Yeah, that's okay. Hey, you always got time. And then I felt double double blind. I know not everyone felt as strongly as I did about this film, but I thought it was really good. I thought that it was something. Again, the Irish film board putting out something that I was like, that Would happen. So I felt both of those kill your level and lover and double blind. If you haven't checked them out, they may or may not be for you,

but I think they were under hyped movies this year. Oh, absolutely. And double blind. Fucking love that movie. That was great, right? Yeah. So under talked about. And like you said, kill your lover. You talked about this one and I was so excited to watch it. And then. Yep. Just. It happens, right? Oh, but I'll have to get to that one because I am very curious. So the next one. This is always a fun category because we always say, you know, if there is an element to this that makes it horror to

you, then it's a horror film. So this category is. It's not horror. Yes, it is. So for the first one, I would say for the runner up, I should say, I think most people would put this in kind of like a sci fi category, but I. Double blind. Double blind is a straight up horror film for me. Straight up. I agree. But then the award, once again, I think this would go to more of a drama action category for most people, but it's civil War once

again. Because the shit that happens in this movie is fucking scary because it could fucking happen. And it's horror in a way. Like it's horror. Yeah. Terrifying this could possibly happen. Yeah. I think you're. You're hitting the nail on again, the hammer on the nail there, Scotty. I have one here and you. Golden Globes. It's not a musical or comedy. It's a horror movie and it's called the substance. You. Yep. It's not a. How is it a musical or a comedy or. How is it a comedy? Because there's

some funny parts in it, you cowards. Call it what it is. It's a horror film. Exactly. That is how I feel about the substance. Yeah. And if you haven't watched the substance, please watch it. It's excellent. The movie is freaking amazing. Right. I mean, it's amazing that it makes me happy that Demi Moore got an award for it and everything like that. But yeah, recognize it as a horror film. God damn it. Musical comedy.

This one, I had a harder time because I don't think I really watched too many that were like in that Category of could it be just sci fi? Could it be horror? So my runner up went to Sting, the other spider movie, because it's sci fi and it's

horror, it's comedy, it's all of it. It was fun. I liked it. But I like infested more, I think spider movie of the year. But my award goes to double blind. Yeah, I said Alien Ramunus, because there's still people out there that are like. Yeah, I had that as a runner up at first, but I'm going, yeah, I can't even argue with those people to say it's science fiction because it's just like, it's obviously horror. Shut the up. And that's how they sound.

That's how you sound every time you say that Alien. An alien film is in horror. I just want that tell you that's how we all hear you. Okay. It's a horror film and it's science fiction. It's fine. It can be both. It can live in two worlds. Exactly. I thought Erica was calling down to me, but I think she's talking to the puppers. Yeah. Oh, you get confused. She talks to you and the dog the same way. Come here, Scotty. Sit. Scotty, sit. Do you want a belly rub? Do you want

a belly rub? You're like, lower. She's like, this is so weird. I really hate this role play. Can we try something else? Speaking of that, I guess that scenario was all a little too real. Good segue. Yeah. It's our next category. Premium podcasters right over here. I love it. So our next category is a little too real. This is where it just kind of. Something may hit a little too close to home for us or to, like, just like real life in general.

Once again, a runner up. I'm gonna bring this movie up again. And that is Civil War. A little too real for me right now. But the main award goes to the coffee table. Yeah. Like, while the scenario is a bit unbelievable, but just everything that happens is a little too real. The conversations and who. Who. Yeah, I would agree. I would think that Blink Twice is a little too real. Especially with everything that's happened this year. I don't know. And not happened this year. Pardon me.

The truths that have come out this year and the victims that are being heard, it's. It's fucked. And we all know shit like this happens, you know, with rich celebrities, but it. It. This movie really, like, made it uncomfortable. So. Shouts out to Blink twice. Yeah. And this is a little too real because it's kind of happening. To an indie filmmaker that I used to be friends with that's getting called out, that I immediately removed when I heard what he did.

And because I only met him in passing. But yeah, I'm just going to shout him out. Brian Papandria. Don't deal with that person. Anybody. Women, stay clear. There is a lot of shit coming out about him. He is a very low budget in the filmmaker, but I think his days are numbered. Well, and that's what happens when you're an abuser. So that's what happened. Brian. Maybe you should have been a dick. Exactly. So unless you're a dick with money, as we've learned, you can get

away with it for a lot longer. But. Sorry, Brian, indie filmmaker, you are getting. What'S coming to you. So. Yeah, but. But let's just move on to something that's a little less real. And. Well, I mean, I guess it's still. Real, but our next category is the most real category. Yeah. I was like, it gets. This one does. It's. It's definitely in the lane, but it's happier. It can be. Anyways. That is best horror documentary. I ended up only watching one this year.

The Chucky one was on my list, but I just did not have the like. Well, I guess I shouldn't say I didn't have the time because I. The one I watched also was about as long. Yeah, I was gonna be like, I know what you're gonna pick and you can't see it at the time. Yeah, but. But yeah, Chucky one. I am. That is on my list of ones to watch because I am such a huge Chucky nerd.

But the one that I did see, and I don't even know if it's officially out for the masses yet, this one I think is only available like, because we're lucky friends. We have. We are lucky to have friends that we do. But I think it's only out to the people that kind of supported it through Indiegogo or whatever. But that is the documentary In Search of Darkness, 1990-1994. This. This one hit all the nostalgia for me. A lot of the movies they brought up, like, I thought the 80s one would

have been the one that hit the nostalgia for me. But no. The 90s is when I grew up. I was a 90s child. You are a 90s child. Same with me. Yeah, like, I grew up in 80s, but like 90s is my formative years. And Search for Darkness, you brought up a lot of movies that I had forgotten about. And. Well, because of that my fiance and I have been on a freaking Stephen king made for TV movie marathon lately. We have watched almost all the 90s TV movies

from Stephen King thanks to this documentary. Kind of going, oh shit, yeah, we should watch these. And now we have not been able to stop. I love it. That's amazing. I. I'm the same as my first pick, but I did watch Doc of Chucky because I'm a premium podcaster here at the Friday night podcast. And both are. Both are excellent, honestly, like, I think like In Search of Darkness. I'm sorry, you can't touch those docs. The moment they come out, they're going to win doc of the year.

Like, they're just so good. But I would say Doc of Chucky was very, very good too. If you are a Child's Play fan. If you are a Chucky fan. It was inclusive, it was detailed, it was interesting. It had all the heavy hitters in it. I definitely recommend it. Strong, strong recommend. Yeah, that one's probably going to be one. I'll be whittling down here in a little bit because, yeah, Chucky is up there with one of my favorite franchises. So the next award is best international film.

This one I actually had quite a few runners up. Coffee table. Wasn't there enough? Yeah, things like that. But I decided I mentioned the coffee table a couple times already, so I figured I've only brought this one up once and that runner up is invested. Oh yeah. French horror, horrifying film. But another. Another one that I didn't even think about at the time, but is also a French. Directed by a French director. French film. That is the substance that was done by the director that

did revenge years ago that I could not stand. Wow. Yeah. That's a plot twist, right? Yeah. This be a French film as well. I love it. My best international film was Shake, Rattle and Roll Extreme on Netflix. As always, Netflix continues, in my opinion, to be one of the go to's for international horror. And I encourage anyone that has. If you like Thai horror films, you'll like this. It's. It's a great. It's a three short story. Like they're more

than. It's not really anthologies. They don't tie into each other. They're more like short movies kind of connected together and they're fucking great. So Shake, Rattle and Roll Extreme on Netflix, if you haven't had a chance. To check it out, great choice. Thank you. That. That was the old one. You didn't have a runner up for that one? Nah, I. Cause you know why? I knew you were gonna say Infested. And I couldn't agree more. I think that movie was fucking phenomenal.

And that, to me, like, yeah, I didn't want to get too repetitive. Right. So I would say, understandable. That one is, for me, the best. Nice. I was like, yeah, you watched that one way early on in the year. Yeah, yeah, I really liked it. It was really, really good. Once again, one I was thinking was 2023. Hey, that's okay. But the next one, he. He. That's funny. Best horror comedy, this one. I've mentioned both these films already, but the runner up is Deer Camp 86. This one just

had that charming, funny to it. And the one line that just made me laugh out loud was the guy. The one black character in this was like, man, screw this. I'm out of here. They're like, why? It's good. What. What are you doing? It's dangerous. He's like, man, he's like, I don't give a. He's like, I'm going back to Detroit where it's safe. That line is funny. I loved that. And then for me, this one's made way more on the sadistic side. But Terrifier three,

I. I laughed a lot with art. Like, even though you're supposed to be more horrified by art. Like, his mannerisms just make me giggle so much. The way he got excited when he seen Santa Claus for the first time. And he's like, shoves the girls out of the way as he's running down the stairs because he sees Santa Claus. I don't know. It is funny. That is funny. It is funny. But, yeah, that just makes like that

movie. There's like, yeah, there's a lot of uncomfortable scenes, but there's also just a lot of, like, just made me smile and laugh scenes. I agree. For me, it. The. The runner up was Mr. Crockett. I really thought that he was hilarious. The one liners did it for me. And even though Scotty did not like this film, which I respect, we are zombies. Had me pee peeing my pants. Oh, yeah. It's a Heather film and it is what it is. And these are our awards,

so we can choose what we want. Exactly. I found that one very, very funny. Nice. Because, yeah, like, I. I can't. You know, I will never disagree with any of your choices. I may just be like, eh, wasn't for me. But it doesn't always hit right. Like sometimes, like Terrifier 3, as you know, you and I are opposites on Our view of it, but it's. There is funny scenes, like when he's shoving the people out the way to get to Santa. It is funny,

right? Like there's certain things that he does are funny. It's just. It all comes down to your preference and your taste too. Right. Like comedy. Comedy and horror separately are both very subjective. Agree and put them together, it's even more subjective. 100, 100. Now this is another one where we're gonna be different. I struggled on this one because once again, there were just not that many good ones that I had seen. That is. The category is. Can you tell me a story?

Best anthology film of the year. No runner up. Because what I had all sucked besides one and the only one. So this one is getting my award and that is VHS Beyond. I enjoyed it. I didn't love it, but I still enjoyed it. And I had some issues with it, but it was still definitely the best anthology I've seen this year. VHS beyond is my number one and I love it. It's so good. Best. One of the best VHS ones to come out, in my opinion. This was more middle of the

road for me. Yeah. But like, I still. I still enjoyed it. It's just not as deep. Show didn't fall into your category of apology of the year. Absolutely not. The movie like Matt Wood and Kate and I. Matt's the guy that dies at the end. Kate and I are stripping at the strip club, some shady place in Soho. Oh, man. Shouts out to midnight peeve show. Anyway. Yes. VHS Beyond. You know, it was a. It was a slow year for anthologies this year, so it really was.

It didn't have much comp, so. Nope. Not really. Kind of one participation trophy. To be honest, I loved it, but it definitely wanted a participation trophy. So. Yeah. Oh, and the next one is. This one I had a lot of options from, but this one is We're Stranded, the best survival horror film. So I had a lot of options to choose from on this one because there were a lot of survival horror films this year like, that I could at least

picture as survival horror. But I ended up going with Double Blind Again as my runner up because they were stranded and trying to survive off of, like, just the horrible situation they were in. But my award goes to Infested. Yeah. That you're surviving and you're quarantined inside a building and you are trying to survive together and bad things are happening all around while spiders are just swarming. The place, fucking your shit up. Yeah. Right. So mine is.

And I have One and one alone. And it is Don't Move. I did not see this one. And this one was on Netflix. It was about a woman who is given a paralyzer drug and she has to survive and try to get away from this guy that wants to kill her. And it was a really interesting take on being hunted in the woods. And I thought it was different and I thought it was unique. Did I think it was the best movie of the year? Absolutely not.

But I think it did something different for the survival genre. So if you haven't seen it yet, I recommend Don't Move and it is on the Netflix. Nice. Okay, if this is one, I think it was also on the list that I needed to check out. Just never got around to. I know. It's okay. Premium podcaster, my ass. I ain't. I know. I'm actually gonna do tryouts for a. New person and I don't blame you. All right, this one was a tougher category for me this year, and that

is hauntings done right. Best ghost film. That's because you didn't watch a lot of movies. Yeah, like Elite or. I just avoided a lot of bad ones because I don't know if there was that many good ones like that. I. Oh, there was an excellent one, but you didn't watch it, obviously. I'm curious. Do you want to hear? Oh, let's see. I will give you yours first. Yeah. The ones I ended up choosing were both found footage films.

And that was hashtag missing couple for the runner up. Thought it was really solid creepy until the absolute reveal towards the end kind of ruined it for me, but fair enough. But the one that I will give a shout out or the award to is Mind, Body, Spirit. Yeah, that was a good one, actually. That was actually a decent little haunting story for a low budget. Yeah, like, I didn't

think the found footage worked that well. And like, obviously the social media characters I wasn't a big fan of, but at the same time, it did have a good haunting story to it. Oddity. Ah, yes. Yep. God damn. Oddity. Oddity. Oddity. I felt like this is haunting done right again. An Irish film from the Irish Film Board that came out this year by far. My, my, the top ghost film as far as I'm concerned of this year. God damn it. That's okay. You'll get to it. Yeah, I just regret not getting to it

earlier. It's okay. We all can't be perfect, Scott. I know the next one. Let's exercise the demon, the power of Christ Compels you best possession film. I gotta give a shout out to this one. It was a sequel to one of my favorite movies of 2021, if I remember correctly. But this one didn't hit as hard. But I still gotta say, the haunting aspect of it or the not hunting but demon possessing aspect of it is smile too. Yeah, that's a. That's a good pick. Yeah. Like,

I was. I was not as big on this one as I was the first one. But the demon in this, possessing the character and doing what it does to them is fucked up. But number one, the award, Late Night with the Devil. Fuck. Yeah. Yeah. Literally bought a exorcism going on. Going on live TV and just going horribly wrong. I am with you. I had one. It was Late Night with the Devil. Absolutely exorcism done right. Absolutely exorcism. Awesome. Yeah, that one, like I get watch it. If you haven't watched.

Shudder. Really did bring out some great movies last year, and that was one of them. For anyone out there hasn't seen it, please go back and watch it. It's very, very good. Yeah, one of my favorites of the year. But this one is definitely the Heather category with the name and I love it. Stabby, Stabby, Pokey, Pokey Best. That's what I love. I love being pokey Pokey. And this year, I gotta say, there were quite a few slashers. There was. I was like.

I was once again, actually had a nice variety to choose from, but I have to go with my heart and go with the ones that I loved. And the runner up is Winnie the Pooh, Blood and Honey too. Just so much fucking fun. And by award, once again, Terrifier three. It. It is. It was a slasher and it's best slasher of the year. If I've watched it four fucking times. I would agree that Terrifier 3 is a fucking excellent slasher. I don't think that. And Winnie the Pooh, Blood and

Honey, but that is not my pick. I decided to be a little different. And I decided to look at some other films that I saw this year and take this category and think about, you know, not in a violent nature, not Terrifier three, not Winnie the Flu, but in Honey, not even Mary Had a Little Lamb. And I decided to go with Trim Season. Right. I thought the concept of this film was clever. The idea that they're all going up to pick weed. That was great. Harvest weed. And I thought it was an

interesting slasher. It had all the tropes, it had all the characters. It had all of that, and I thought that it was

new and different, and that's why I wanted to bring it up. So if you are a slasher fan and you have seen a lot of different slashers over the years, and I'm talking like you were from someone from the 80s that watched all the different types of slashers, like Fatal Games and all that other shit, this may be something for you not to say it's like, bad or whatever, but it's not something that you're gonna walk away from

and be like, oh, my God, like, it's changed my life. But it's something different. And it does follow through with the slasher characters and tropes and all that stuff. And I think it's worth a watch. Yeah, that was a very good slasher. Like, it's not like top tier, but like you said, it's like Fatal Games. Yeah, stuff like that, where it's just like a very fun, easy to watch slasher. And I wanted to bring something

else to the awards, Right. I wanted to talk about something else that came out this year and take a little bit of a. A different approach to it and bring this other film that maybe people might want to see. Yeah. Because I thought I'd be amiss to like, deny Terrifier 3 with as much as I've given it already. Like, so I can't. And I say this is where I kind of start repeating myself a lot with some of these categories because now it's fitting into the genres.

I have some surprises coming, though. Oh, I think I have a few as well. Oh, nice. I'm excited. So we'll see when we get there. The next one is. Hey, look at this mysterious tape. I found. Best found footage film of the year. Found footage. Boy, this year was a bit rough. It was even. I'll see if you pick it. I'm interested if you pick it. We'll see what you say. I don't think we're going to have the same ones for this one. So my runner up, The Blackwell Ghost 8, once again,

very awesome sequel. Highly recommend people watching the franchise because it was really fucking good from beginning to end. And it is one long. It's a continuation of the story from the very beginning. It's just building and building and building and building. Like, it's just. And it's amazing, like, what this guy has been doing with this series. But my award goes to Frogman. I think that was the absolute best found footage film that I've seen this year. I agree with you. Holy. That's awesome.

Because Horror in the High Dessert came out, as I like to call it. I know it's Horror in the High Desert. I prefer to say dessert. And I was quite disappointed with that this year. I really thought that was going to be my pick, and I didn't really dig it. So, yeah, I. I would agree. Frogman. Definitely the best found footage movie of the year. Definitely. Yeah. That's one I would like to have in my physical collection. Agreed. Agreed. I guess

that was that. That. That damn good. And then the next one, that kind of can fall in the category of found footage, but also can be just a regular, normal type of film, but that is smash that, like, button and ring that bell. Best Social Media Horror film. This one had a decent amount to choose from as well, but I went with, I guess, two. Well, now I'm gonna cross that one off because I just thought of this one. But my runner up, Clickbait Social

Media Influencers. Just getting picked off one by one. It was fairly entertaining. But then once again, I got to give the award. As much as I was, like, I said, much as I had problems with this film for 800 budget milk and cereal. Okay. The YouTube social media prankster uploaded these videos, and I think it fit that category very well. Hey, you know, I. I would agree, and I think it was. Well, I would agree with I didn't see Michael Cereal, but I would agree with Unfollowed Clickbait. That was

my number one. I thought the protagonist in this was quite good. I felt there was, like, a speech he gives that I felt was very emotional and raw and I was rooting for him and I thought the ending was kind of funny. So I. I enjoyed that movie a lot. So I'm glad we both had it on there. That's awesome. Yeah. Because I did have Missing Couple, but I'm going. I just. That clickbait just popped back in my head.

I'm like, oh, yes. No, I crossed off Missing Couple because that's also another social media one that fits that category as well. Yeah. And then the next one, Good Boy Swimming with the Fishes. See, Best Shark Films. I gave a runner up, but it's nowhere near award worthy. And that is no way up. Such a ridiculous plot and just so dumb. But it was still at least fairly entertaining. But the award itself goes to Under Paris. Okay. So my award went to no Way Up.

I liked it more than I liked Under Paris. Are you serious? I am. I am serious. Serious. I thought I went into that movie being like, this is Gonna be so stupid. And I got behind all the characters. I. I didn't give a fuck about all the ridiculousness that would never happen. I didn't care that it was so silly. See? Care. Eric is coming over because Scott has one pussy on his shoulder.

Hey. And she's not putting up with that. That's right. You stake your territory, Erica, you don't let that cat show you who's boss. Heather's talking, saying, erica, you show that who's boss. You kind of bring in the ones from the left field most of the time, so I appreciate it. Yeah. I don't know. I thought it was funny. I thought it was a good movie and it was silly, but who gives a. It was great. I. I know Paris was fine, but I knew you were gonna say that, and I didn't think

you were gonna bring on no way up. But I'm glad that we got to talk about it twice. Oh, yeah. That is kind of funny. So, yeah, I guess we can jump on to the next category. Yeah, this seems familiar. Best remake, sequel, or prequel. So my runner up is First Omen. I thought that was just an excellent prequel leading into the franchise and completely caught me off guard because I did not think it was going to be any good, so got to give it love. But of course, once again,

Terrifier 3, it a sequel, and it's amazing. Like I said, there's gonna be a lot of love for terrifier 3. I know you are. It's touching. You in all the right places. It is the movie that I was shocked that I thought was a prequel that we needed apartment 7AMm. Thank you for doing a fucking sequel that added to the story. Not take away from it, not make it seem redundant. Thank you for not doing a remake of a very good film

and making it Americanized. And besides the over the top protein antagonist in the movie, it's a poor comparison to the original. On Speak no Evil. I. I am very glad that apartment 7A brought it this year. Great film. Bravo, Paramount. Bravo. I once again, another movie that I just didn't expect to be any good because I. I really enjoyed Rosemary's Baby. But I just like this doesn't need a prequel. I didn't think it was going to be any good. I thought it was going to just be really dumb and

shock the out of me. Right. Shocked you. And the way they did at the end, too. Cool. Yeah, they did tie it in really good at the end. Well, we're getting down to like the. The nitty gritty. Yes, we are. Oh, boy, oh, boy. This. And this is a fun category. It is. Don't you judge me. Best guilty pleasure film or so bad it's good film crap. I had two in my head. Like, I forgot to write one in my runner up there. When I just thought of that, I was like, oh, yeah, because I can't type

because my keyboard is unplugged. Do you want me to go and see if it's one of mine? Yeah, okay. My runner up is Tarot. Oh, gee, I thought it was so funny. I just love how it's like, oh, no, the tarot cards are good. All your future. But I love it. But I love it, though. It's like Stay alive, the video game one, you know, from the 2006. Yeah. Watch, because I've never seen that. Oh, you got to watch it because Tarot is basically the knockoff version of like how that came out in 2006.

It was like a knockoff of that time. Tarot is a knockoff of this time. And it's kind of a knockoff of. Final Destination as well. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. It's great. It's. It's a guilty pleasure. But nothing, nothing will take away from what happens when you watch Steamboat Willie in an arcade and then you throw a party with your friends that has free alcohol, but then you decide y'all want to go to a bar. But then you talk about how like

you're. And then people are banging in fucking fun houses and you try to figure. Out how any of these people are actually friends. And everyone stops short of saying Mickey Mouse. And. But they know that the movie's silly and makes no sense. And that movie, my friends, is the Mousetrap. And it is a fucking. It is gold. It is. It is. It is the gold standard of how to make a bad movie and know you're making a bad

movie and just fucking go with it. And I want to have my birthday locked in an arcade. The end of story. Was it one of those? It was neither of those. But I did pop back in my head. So, like, okay, glad you gave me that time. Good. But I've been waiting for Mousetrap to get mentioned somewhere in this list, so I'm glad it finally got brought up. So thank you for giving me that time because now I remember what my runner up was. My runner up was what I picture happens in Australia all the time.

That is rippy. About the killer zombie kangaroo. Oh, man, that movie was mint, too. What a great movie. That was. That was so dumb, but so fun. And then another one, and this is one. I'm wondering if you just forgot about it or you thought about it but changed your mind, because I remember you and I both really enjoyed it. The one that gets the award is a most atrocious thing. The one about the rancid deer meat that turns people into zombies and the killer

deer and everything. Yeah, yeah, that was fun, too, but it was fun, you know, I even liked Mary Had a Little Lamb. Like, I even liked that one this year. I thought that was fun, too. Yeah, man, I don't know. There's some, like. I don't know. Sometimes people take shit too seriously. You know what I'm saying? Oh, yeah. Like, and then you just gotta, like, turn your brain off and be like, oh, don't understand. It's great. Exactly. And for

me, like, you know, these movies weren't great. They got, like, mediocre scores. But they were still just entertaining and I enjoyed my time with them. Truth be told, I watched Tarot and Mousetrap recently because they got picked for worst of the year. I'm not. I'm not rewatching the best because I already know all of them, except for Late Night with the Devil. I need to refresh myself a little bit. But, yeah, I rewatched the Mousetrap and Tarot. Oh, I'm sure you did. Yeah,

I did. I was like, these movies are great. I don't know. I'm like, I didn't know we were doing all good of the year I told everyone that those movies were in my top 10. So I love, like, I love gaslighting the people in that other podcast and telling them crazy shit that's not real. And for people that are wondering, she's talking Slumber Party Massacre. Yeah, Slumber Party Massacre. Yeah. Yeah. If you listen to me on there, I do a lot of gaslighting. It's great. Oh, it's amazing.

Oh, yeah. I guess we jump on to the next category and then it's all slimy. Best. Best body horror of the year for me, the runner up. While the movie just was dumb and made no sense and I. And it's a remake, I tried. I really tried to like it. But that is. I can't argue the fact that the practical effects were amazing. That is street trash. Yeah, that's fair. That's fair. The body melting effects in this were fantastic. It was colorful. It was gross. Don't know what the was

going on. It made no damn sense. But also there's that weird goofy blue creature that the one guy keeps hallucinating that he's seen. That like looked silly but also kind of cracked me up. So that was my runner up. But the best body horror of the year definitely once again has to go to the substance. Agreed, agreed. I'll say just the subtle body horror effects that happen through the first two, two thirds of this film. But then that final act happens and you get monster Eliza

suit and the fact that she just. A boob just grows out of her. One of the mouths on the side of her and just plops to the ground and you got faces screaming and just. It's a horrifying monster in blood and gore. Holy. The effects in that were gross and amazing at the same time. Yeah. Mint. As Heather likes to say. Mint. It was a mint. That's for all my British folks. It was mint. I agree. It's my. It's my one and only pick. Yeah, I couldn't agree more. You know, for this next category,

So, yep, got it. Gave a runner up for that. And then the Blackwell Ghost 8 actually gets the award because it's not about a ghost at this point. It's about a home invasion and someone stuck in the sky and it gets really creepy. Okay, well, I'm going to go with Here for Blood because I agree that's the last one that I. I could not think of the other one. So. Yes. All right. Glad I can help with that. Thank you. Thank you. This one. Home for the Holidays. Best holiday themed horror

films. This is any. I was gonna say this is any holiday you can think of. You already know what my award's gonna go to, I'm sure, but I run her up. Easter. Bloody Easter. Yeah. About killer bunny rabbits, glowing red eyes and they're basically puppets. It was super stupid but entertaining and had the theme of Easter. But of course, Terrifier three, it is a full blown Christmas movie from beginning to end. I mean I can't argue that one. I made it my

one and only pick. Yeah. It is absolutely on point for its Christmas theme. Yeah. I was like. Because everything else there was a lot of like theme like holiday themed movies, but none of them really hit the holidays that well. I agree with you. I agree 100%. Yeah. So yeah, shocker. Terrifier three from I know. Well. And me too. Both of us. Both of us. Right. But the next one is low budget. Done right. Best indie film of the year. I brought these two up already as

well. But the runner up I'll give to milk and cereal. And the best one though for me is Deer Camp 86. Once again, I just fucking loved this. This was the indie film for me. Mine was Here for Both. Here for Blood. I thought that that was very, very well done. Really entertaining, really fun and. Yeah, well, all the things that are low budget. I hope that they continue to build from there as a director and actors and all that other stuff. Right, Absolutely. I would love

to see what they do next. So this next one, do you have yay movies? I do. Do you want to hold off and put that one to last? Because like since this one doesn't have. Isn't related to horror and we can just. That is have that be. That's fine. Yeah. Because that just makes sense to me. So cool. So we'll skip that one for now and we'll come back to it at the end here some. But we'll go to someone to keep an eye on. Best first time feature length directorial debut.

This one. I do some digging. Did a lot of digging. A lot of digging. And once again, these two films have already been mentioned before. But the runner up goes to Anthony Cousins, who directed Frogman. I am very curious to see what he does next. Agreed. And then the award itself goes once again to L. Van Dyke Siboutson for deer camp 86. Excellent. Mine one and only Kaitlin Cronenberg, Humane. I. I am definitely a Cronenberg fan. I would say I like his kids more than I like him him in terms of as

a director, I think he makes some great films. Don't get me wrong. But I tend to like and I like her her. And I feel like she's my sister. That humane movie is a movie I would have made. I thought it was so well done and I look forward to seeing more from her. I do too. And I was gonna say, like, because there is something in the blood of the Cronenberg family that just knows how to cover social commentaries 100%. Right. They just. They know

their social commentary. I look forward to seeing what comes out from her as time goes on. Yep. I would say I want to see what comes out from her, from Brandon and I want to see what their father comes up with next. And I want to hear Tim hate all of them. Yep, exactly. And not understand them. And it makes me stronger with his hate. So I'm really excited. I agree. So the next one after this will be. Well, that looks real. Best practical effects. And this one there was a lot of good

practical effects this year. Was. This year there was once again runner up is Street Trash because the practical effects that were awesome. But yeah, this one I originally had Terrifier 3, but I'm going. I gave Terrifier 3 way too much love. But I mean the practical effects are amazing. So they are another shout out. But the substance. Oh yeah. Fuck yeah. Mine was terrifier 3 as a runner up. I don't know how you cannot. And I said in a violent nature. I felt like a lot of stuff in

there was practical. Right. So I felt those two this year were. Were very good. But honestly there were a lot of good ones. There was a lot of really good practical effects this year. Even from some low budget stuff was actually pretty good this year too. So I. This was a year practical. We're bringing practical back. Except for Under Paris. We're not. We're not looking at you in Paris. And God let it be true. God, let it be good. But Gremlins 3 has been officially announced by Chris Columbus.

So please God, let them use practical effects and not cgi, please. God. See, right, that could go either way. Yeah, right. We will see. We will see on this one. This one was a little tougher this year, but I thought of two and I was like, that's fitting. But the award or the. Yeah, the war category is. Ooh, pretty. Most stylish film. My runner up was Maxine. I thought it was very stylish and very reminiscent of an 80s Giallo and also just had the look and feel of 80s.

From the outfits to the crimped hair to the soundtrack. Yeah, the soundtrack, the makeup, everything looked 80s. Like a. It was an aesthetic at that movie. Agreed. But my main one once again goes to the substance. That one had some very Kubrick style shots and images because like there's a lot of like the very colorful hallways, a lot of the almost the shining esque carpeting in the Overlook Hotel. I had that in some spots and it just very stylish from its design and the way it

was shot and everything else. Agreed, agreed. I think that those both deserve that award. The one that I felt stood out to me that made it look the most like a talk show behind the scenes when they were filming was Late Night with the Devil. I think that movie was made perfectly when it came to stylish. So 100% that was on the list as well. Nice. Very nice. And I guess should we do our last one then? Yay movies. Best non horror film. It actually was.

I've. I've never seen this before. Best first time watch horror film from previous years. Oh, oh, not have that one. No, I didn't. But I can look it up quickly. Okay. Because I could have had seven on this list, but I just chose it as an entire franchise and that is the Blackwell Ghost franchise. Never heard anyone talk about it. I had always seen like the COVID and I'm sitting here thinking how is there seven of these what I'm assuming is Paranormal Activity reject films?

Because I just assumed like if no one's talking about them, they must be one of those low budget, crappy rip offs of like Paranormal Activity or whatever. But no. Boy was I shocked and surprised to find out this franchise has a heart to it. It starts off as a Paranormal Activity kind of movie, but goes a little deeper into it and then gets a little more human as the franchise goes on and gets a little more personal and then kind of turns into a murder mystery

documentary style. It becomes a very like it just. How do you call it? It just evolves into something that just like so unique and so its own And I cannot wait for part nine. Like it's already being made, it's already been talked about. I cannot wait to see where the story continues to go. Wow, that's awesome. I. You know, I looked into my list. I didn't watch as many last year as I usually would. But a movie that really stood out to me from last year that I watched was actually 12ft deep

down in 17. And I thought it was really good pool horror. Like, especially because we had just seen. Was it. The swimming pool was the shittiest. Night Swim. Night Swim. But this was like swimming pool horror done right and was actually very entertaining. So 12ft deep. 2017. Nice. And how many older watches did you watch this year? Just 12. Really? Yeah, I actually got you beat on this one. 26 for me. Oh, sorry. 23. 23. My bad. 23. Okay. So not too far out, but Yeah, I got

26 altogether. Well, there you go. Yeah, So I was too busy watching 2024s. Yeah. And I was gonna say, like, I get that. I was too busy doing a lot of re watches of franchise and stuff with Erica. Yeah. But yeah, now we can do the final award that is Yay movies. Best non horror film of the year. My runner up was Deadpool and Wolverine. Nice. I just had so much fun with

this. It was silly, it was charming, it was nostalgic just for the fact that, you know, Hugh Jackman came back as Wolverine and gave me the whole early 2000s X Men vibe. And then just kind of the cameos from certain people and things like that were just really nice to see. And of course, it was just funny and definitely made fun of the whole Marvel universe and where it's at right now and made fun of Disney and everything else, even though Deadpool is part of Disney

now. So now I got to give props. It was a lot of fun, but nice. The award goes to because this one, I almost put it in the Is it horror? Who cares? It's good category. But I can't even say this one is sitting in that realm, but that is Godzilla X Kong, the New Empire. This one was big dumb monster movie action. And I. It was so dumb. It was so dumb. But I had so much fun with it. You were so here for it. Yes, it was so much fun. I love it. I. I didn't see either one,

so I can't comment because I don't watch a lot of non horror. I watch a lot of Doxo and I. One of the best documentaries that I think came out last year was Quiet on the set. The dark side of Kids tv. Oh, yeah. About Nickelodeon. It could be categorized as horror. It could be. And it was definitely, though, respectful to the victims and

allowed them an opportunity to tell their story. And I felt that, you know, really showed why there needs to be actors, unions and rights for actors, particularly child actors. And I thought that it was a really good exploration of how that may have been lacking in the 90s. So that is totally understandable. This is one that I purposely avoided because the subject of it just kind of made me. It's heavy. Even think, yeah, it's heavy,

Right. So, you know, watch at your own risk. But it was a very, very good documentary that came out this year. So now we're in our top 10 categories. So how would you like to do this? Do you want to do honor roll mentions first? Like, one of us just lists through honorable mentions, the other one does, and then we go back and forth. Yeah, I say that's the best way to do it. Okay, I can go first for my honorable mentions. All right. So my honorable mentions, in no particular order, are laced.

This movie was released early 2024. It's based about a couple that is in a remote cabin, and the woman plans to kill her husband, but things do not go as planned. Yeah, it came out early. I talked about it early in January last year. Double Blind, which we mentioned several times. The group, which I mentioned earlier, Soulmates. So this is about a woman and a man that wake up, saw kind of like theme. They're in this.

They're attached to each other with handcuffs, and they have to complete a series of puzzles and challenges, and things are not as they seem. And the watchers are the watchers really where my. Yeah. Was in my honorable mentions. So I'll let you give your honorable mentions. All right, So I have five honorable mentions, and they've all but one of them have already been talked about. So my honorable mentions are The Blackwell Ghost 8. Abigail, the first Omen. Slay. Slay. Thank you.

And then this is the one that has not been mentioned in any of our awards. And I'm kind of surprised neither of us have thought of it, actually, but. Immaculate. I'm. I was not expecting this movie to be that good. I thought I was going to be overhyped, but I was very involved in the story about this young woman that is Goes to this nunnery and basically kind of has the same situation as the First Omen being gifted. The son of the Antichrist, shall we say. Very similar film. Yeah,

and very similar. But A very just. Oh, I can't believe they did that ending. But yeah, very good, Very good movie, but just did not make my top 10. Fair enough. So my 10th was something that we did that we did bring up already and that was kill your lover. I. I thought that this was body horror done right. Fuck off, Matt. And I thought that it was Just kidding that. Just kidding. Don't get upset, Matt. Don't we need to be the hot power couple since we have some real competition.

So I thought that this was just very simple concept. I liked the romantic elements of this one could say, as well as the body horror that was involved in it. Great little film. My number 10 this year. That. Hell yeah. That's awesome. I need to really watch this one. Damn it. Yeah, you would like it. My number 10 was mentioned multiple times also. I brought it up very early on in the year and I said I will be surprised if this is not in my top 10 by the end of

the year. My number 10 here for blood. Fuck yeah. Good movie. Fucking love that movie so much. Yeah. My number nine, we brought it up already once. It was only mentioned briefly was Trapped. I thought I really enjoyed the movie. I tend to like M. Night Shyamalan films more usually more than not. And I really felt that Josh, Joshua Hartnett's performance nailed this for me. I think if it had been anybody else, maybe it would have been in my top 10. But because he was so viable as

a villain and he played it so well, it. It really stood out for me this year. I can totally see that. I didn't know it'd be in your top 10, but that's awesome. Yeah, I know. Kept it. Surprise. You did find number nine also one we've brought up a couple times. But Winnie the Pooh, blood and Honey too. It was just more of Winnie the Pooh blood and honey, but just ramped up. And Tigger dropping off or dropping Freddy Krueger one liners throughout the

entire movie and adding the addition of. Yeah, Tigger and Owl. Oh boy. It just was so much fun and then just kind of building much a much larger backstory for what's going on. Agreed. And Winnie the Pooh, but in Honey. Winnie the Pooh, blood and Honey too. That was my number eight, baby. For the exact same reasons. And I am here for it. You keep brilliant in that Pooh universe. I am down for it. Fuck. Christopher Robbins, you left. That is the issue. Right. So yeah.

Then my number 8 also been brought up before. But the best found footage film of the year and that is Frogman. Well deserved, I'll say. I've already mentioned everything I liked about it, so. Yep. That just. My top 10 we're gonna go through pretty quickly just because I've brought up a lot. Yeah, we've. A lot of these we've talked about. This is the first time, you know, unless I had been doing top tens back when the second one in this franchise came out,

would it have ever been made it to my top 10? And I'm sure there's lots of people that are not gonna like that, but my seventh favorite movie of this year was VHS Beyond Baby. Oh, nice. It. I thought it was fab. I watched it with my friend Mark in England back in. I don't know when was it dropped? Was it October? That was dropped? I think so, Yeah. I think it was October. Yeah. I think I watched it with him in October and it was. It's mint.

I love all the stories. I think they're hilarious. I think they're great. Vhs, you made it to my top ten. Congratulations. Yeah, that's. That's a high award for VHS there, especially for me. I'm not a. I'm hard to impress with a VHS film, so. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. So, yeah, that. That is your number seven, you said, right? Yep, number seven. My number seven is another one we talked about. Heretic. Very nice. I just love. God, what is his name? Villain. The actor.

Yeah, yeah. Love the role that Hugh plays in this because I could have never pictured him as a villain. And he did such an amazing job. And just the conversations he's having and just making like the comparisons to religion, to Monopoly and all this. And I'm going, fuck. He does make a good point. He does does it in a sadistic way, but he's making good fucking points here, 100%. That was a movie that I didn't expect to be as good as it was. It was excellent. That was my number six

is Oddity. We brought that up already. I recommend people go watch it on the shutty if they haven't had a chance too. Hell yes. That's one I still need to watch. And I will. I gotta watch that one soon. My number six is infested. Good old, very good survival film. And the crazy to think we got two spider horror films this year. And yes, both of them being pretty good and, well, both being good, I should say. Yeah, I agree. My number five was. I brought this up a couple of times.

I am a big fan of the director or what she's done so far. He mean, hell, Yes. I was waiting to see if you'd have that because I. I know, like with the Cronenbergs. Yeah. David's not your best. Brandon's like, kind of hit or miss with you. Yeah, yeah. And then. But the way she wrote and did this story, I was like, this is a Heather story. When I first. Oh, it really was. I loved it. It's true, you know. Oh, yeah. I knew. I know what Heather lacks. It's true. All right, so, yeah, then top five.

So my number five is deer camp 86. Oh, yeah, baby. Gander Love. Good film. Good film. My number four was Heretic, which we already talked about. Hell yes. Very good surprise of this year. My number four was the substance. Yeah, we've said talk about this one a million times, but, yeah, freaking excellent film. Agreed. Agreed. My number three will be probably what Scott regrets not watching for this list is no ferratu. And never in a million years have I thought a Robert Eggers fan, a Robert

A movie would be in my top 10. But here we are. Our top three. Yeah. I say the fact that it's a top three, that's wow. Yeah, that says something. Yeah. My number three is late night with the devil. Yep. Excellent throwback to 70s talk show and horror. It's great. And for me, my number two. You already said it. Is the substance. much fun with this in the theater. So good. Like I said, never expected an alien movie to make facehuggers scarier than xenomorphs, but here we are. And my number one, Late Night with the Devil. imaginary. But no, of course it's Terrifier three. If I've. I mentioned earlier on that I've watched this four times this year. I have not. I don't usually re. Watch a lot of movies the same year they come out, but did I just have so much fun with this? And I am all here for the Art the Clown love. Bring on part four. Bring on part five. Take them to space. Bring it on. I am here for it. I agree. I hope they keep making Them. I will keep watching them. Whether they're in my

top 10 or not. It doesn't matter. They are quality films. Yes. And they are great. So that is our 2024 year wrap. It's been a year and. And yeah, I'm looking forward to see what comes out in 2025 and see how we do. Yeah, I'll say. It's first time that Nick Frost has written and directed a full film, I believe. Kind of why I want to watch it just for that. It's very much his humor. Okay. So I will

probably enjoy it more. It is funny, but it is very predictable. Oh, yeah. And he is very like. It's very. As I was saying to Mark, my friend from England, it's very like British people, look at what asshole British peoples are on vacation. Look how they treat other folks. They're just assholes. I mean, so basically. So basically the British version of American tourists. It is exactly that. It is. It is exactly that. That is. That is exactly

what I was hoping you were going to say. And that is 100% correct. So, yeah. Yeah. So I will definitely watch it just because I love everything Nick Frost has done. I love his sense of humor. So maybe it'll work for me a little more. But we shall see. Like. And plus, there isn't anything else to watch 2025 wise right now. There is not. There is not. It is A very, very slow time. So I look forward to doing our top 30. I think it'll be a lot

of fun and yeah, and I think this. Is a good time to do it because it gives us time to find 2025s to watch and talk about. Yes. Yes.
