[00:00] Welcome back to the Focus B show. This is Katie Sudddhart here aka the focus b. And on this show, I interview high performers and leaders around the world to discover their secrets on peak performance, productivity, mindfulness, and leadership. So if you want to take your performance and your leadership to the next level, then you're in the right place. Listen up and connect with the magic.

[00:37] You how can you transform your life? First of all, let's get clear. What is transformation? Transformation is the true formation of results. It's creating results that have a lasting effect. Transformation is going from a current situation that you're not satisfied with and building and creating a new situation that suits you, that makes you thrive and makes you happy. What blocks transformation? Fear. We stay in the same pattern because we're afraid, because the new situation is unknown. You can be in a really miserable job, but at least you know it so it feels safer. And unfortunately, this is what happens to many people. You get stuck in that relationship or in that job because you don't know what could be on the other side of there. And because of that fear, you don't take that action like quitting the job. How do we create this transformation? What are the three core pillars that can enable you to have a transformation? First and foremost, be clear on what that transformation is. Before we dive into the three pillars, it helps if you have something very specific in mind. So think of an area in your life that you're just really not satisfied with. Maybe your work, maybe relationship, maybe health, maybe a hobby that you haven't picked up in a while. Think about this area where you're not satisfied and what that designed outcome would look like. The three pillars are first craving. First you need to have this craving for huge change and transformation. I remember I used to work at sea and I used to make maps of the sea floor and I was an engineer. And the start of my transformational journey when I changed careers from being an engineer to a business owner, it all began with that craving, that desire, that wish for something else, for something different, for something more aligned, for something that fueled me more. If you've had that first initial craving, that's already that first step to your transformational journey, if you just think it would be nice if I was a bit fitter, or it'd be good if I was in a relationship or a different relationship, or it would be nice if I built a bit more of a social life. If it's just like it would be nice, then transformation hasn't begun. You're accepting the status quo and you're thinking that would just be a bonus. That initial huge craving is really what propels the transformation forward. So if you haven't had that huge initial sense of craving, you can trigger it by future visualizing what your life would look like if you stayed, for instance, in that job ten years from now. And in parallel, you build another image of what it could look like if you took the leap and contrast both these images. If you do this for, well, once properly and then maybe for a week or so, you will start to build this craving. We can build it up inside ourselves. We can make this bigger. It can go from would be nice to I want to do this now. So that's the first pillar, that craving, then that's not enough. You need to commit. If you don't commit to your transformation, nothing will happen. You can crave all you want to be fitter. If you're not committing to a regular exercise routine, you're not going to get fitter. And that commitment can be done in many, many ways. But often it's a moment in time where you just know there's no going back. For some people, it's when something happens, their health or their relationship or something at work, and they're just like, that was the last job, I'm out, or I'm changing this or I'm shifting. And then there's a full commitment for other people. You need to create it for yourself. When I decided to change careers and quit my job, I sat down and took out my work notebook and I wrote, a year from now I will have quit my job. That was my commitment. I just made that commitment to myself on that moment, quickly following that huge craving that was building up inside of me, and I quit eight months later. So these commitments that you make to yourself, they're powerful. It's not just because someone thinks you should do it. You really commit to it fully. And this can be with an accountability partner, a coach, maybe you sign up and you pay. Recently I paid, for instance, ten sessions with a one on one Swedish teacher. I was like, I'm fully committed to really taking my Swedish to the next level. And so those are sort of acts of proof of your own inner commitment and they can help. And the last step is courage. Because all growth is always a leap in the dark. You don't know what's on the other side. You can't know it. And if you wait for that certainty, it won't happen because you can never be certain. And so it always takes some courage. As Mark Twain says, courage isn't the absence of fear, it's the mastery of fear. You feel the fear and you do it anyway because it's aligned with what's important for you. Aligned action that moves you forward and builds that momentum. And courage can take on many different shapes. Maybe that initial reaching out to other companies while you're still in the current job that's courage quitting. If it's the right aligned action and plant fit and that's where you want to go can be an act of courage. Can also be signing up to these fitness classes. Maybe you haven't exercised in years and just signing up is a huge act of courage. You know when you're being brave because there's a part in you that doesn't want to do it and feel scared and you think, oh God, this will be terrible. Oh, this is scary, why am I even doing this? You're being brave and it's great. If it's aligned, it's fantastic. So those are the three pillars to create any transformation in your life. Not really to create. It's all the pillars you go through. When you're on a transformational journey, you crave, you commit, and then you have the courage to move forward. And so the question is, when you think about the transformation you're trying to create right now, maybe you try to move country, maybe you again get back into fitness, maybe learning a foreign language, maybe picking up an instrument again and you're thinking about the transformation you want to create. Have you had that initial craving or are you already there and you've committed, but you still haven't had the courage to take the action? Or are you already taking the action and now it's just a matter of continuing, building that momentum, and that transformation is about to happen. So where are you on your own transformational journey? And what's your next step to building and creating that transformation in that area of your life? Once you're able to create transformation in one area, you can replicate this in other areas. Once I shifted my careers, I also shifted my health, I shifted my nutrition and fitness and morning routine and built a meditation practice, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. Because the pillars are the same. You crave it, you commit to it, you have the courage, you do it, and you need to be clear during the process. So having that initial clarity beforehand before tackling these three pillars, and then about discipline of focus, which we cover a lot on this podcast, and this is always a journey there. So I hope you've enjoyed today's episode. On the topic of transformation, I think it's absolutely fascinating because you can and you do have the power to design and create your life and also your work in a way that's more aligned to what you believe in and to your values and to what's important for you. So if you have any questions, feel free to put them in the comments or send me a DM on LinkedIn or Instagram. I'd be happy to help. This is a really interesting journey and it's always possible to shift things in one given way or another. So thank you so much for tuning in, wishing you a fantastic day.
