[00:36] Are you excited? We're starting the new pillar on Impact. So far there's been the three pillars of time, energy and attention for greater profit. And now we're going into Impact. And to kick off this pillar on Impact, let's go through Mission, Vision and Purpose. Because as you know, as I explained in the Alignment and Coherence episode, in Profit, being aligned and having your purpose, vision and Mission will support you to take your business to the next level, to be more profitable, to have an impact on the world, which is what this episode is all about. And there was also an episode in the Time series, which is maybe a while back, on Meaning and on Purpose actually in the Energy series on Meaning and Purpose. So it's kind of a little combo here between the Meaning and Purpose side of things and the Alignment and Coherence that I discuss in Profit. Let's look at what's the difference between your mission, your vision and your purpose. Your purpose is the reason you exist in the context of your business or your work. This is the why. The fibers start with why by Simon SENEC. That's your purpose. The vision is the goal. Where are you going with this purpose? So if your purpose is to make the world a more sustainable place, or to make the world a better place to live in, then what is your vision, what is the goal that's going to make the place a better world to live in? And depending on what your business is, that could be introducing Google to the world or it could be helping people, like with the company Beam that are on the street to get a job, for example. And that's probably his actual goal is that and maybe his purpose is to help the world be a better place. We need to ask him. And the mission is the different path that you're going on that leads you to your purpose. So this is generally a sentence, maybe a motto. It's what drives you, the purpose that guides you. That's your why, the mission that drives you. And the vision is the inspiration, the aspiration behind it and all this for greater impact. And for example, as the CEO of Corn Ferry said, Gary Bernison, he says purpose precedes the first step. The more people embrace the purpose, the more likely they will follow. And not only at the beginning when adrenaline is pumping and excitement high like a start of a marathon, but later on when the going gets tough and the people question whether they can go another step. So this is a wonderful explanation by the CEO of Corn Ferry and it illustrates the importance of purpose. So what is the why behind it? People need a purpose in order to have this. And you also need a vision, because without a vision, you might have the purpose to support the world, to be a better place. But you don't know how you're going to do this or where you're going to. And you will feel stuck. So you want a combination of the purpose, the mission and the vision, looking at each one in detail and helping you to articulate them. As we went through in the episode on energy, on meaning and purpose, your purpose comes down to, as I just said, the why. And this is why are you doing what you're doing? Why are you running the business you're running? Why are you showing up every day? And you want to find the greater why? There's a great exercise that consists on the five whys. And that's every time you answer something, ask why again. So if I ask you, why are you running your business? And you say, because I want to help people to get more jobs. Okay. And why does that matter? Because I believe that people having more jobs mean that they will be more fulfilled in their life. And why does that matter? And you continue to five layers and this generally brings you to the core, bottom of the purpose, the real core reason. This is what led me to find my connect with the magic, because this is what I'm most passionate about, connecting people with the magic again, with the magic of living with the magic, living at a high level, a high performing level and a high leadership level, of leading themselves and impacting other people in the world. So this is my core purpose and it's connecting with the magic and it's in everything I do and it's what I'm most passionate about. And the mission is really your mission statement. It's a little more clear, maybe it's a little more tangible, it's a bit more about the how in some ways. So, for instance, if we look at my business, connecting with the magic, this is my purpose, supporting others, to connect with the magic of life and living and their business. And the mission would be more tangible. It would be something along the lines of through in depth interaction, of coaching and training and speaking to enable many business owners to take their business to the next level or to be high performing leaders. I've formulated it different ways over the years, but that's the idea. So it's more tangible, it's more around the how of your purpose. So purpose is great, and then how are you going to do that? That's your mission, how you show up every day and how you're actually doing your purpose. It's your path. It's the path that you're taking, as I said, with connect with the magic, I could be also a stage performer and sing, and that would also be connecting people with magic. But I'm choosing to do it more through coaching, training and speaking. And therefore my mission comes down to how I deliver it. And the vision is your goal. The vision is where do you aspire to be? It's your vision statement, it's what you want to achieve in the future, the results you're aiming for. And you want these all to be tied together. Yes, I'm coming back to this idea of alignment and coherence. You want your mission, your purpose, your mission and your vision to be tied together. They are different aspects of the same thing. They're all different, but they are all tied together. So you can't have a purpose of making the world a better place and a vision of destroying a bunch of things or establishments that doesn't work. I mean, I guess it could hypothetically, if destroying those establishments made the place a better place to live in, maybe. But let's avoid destruction and let's look at having a coherence between purpose, mission and vision. And once you combine these three, once you combine them powerfully and you're clear. Clear, crystal clear. So clear that you could say it in your sleep, what your purpose is, what your mission is and what your vision is, this will hugely contribute to you having an impact through your work. And to briefly summarize, your purpose is the why. It's the reason you show up every day to do what you do. The mission is the path, it's the actual actions that you are doing to serve your purpose. And the vision is the goal. It's the aspiration, it's where you're going, what you're aiming for in your business and in your life. This together is pure, pure gold. So if you haven't worked on it yet, take a moment, start to brainstorm around your why, do the five why exercise around your mission, start putting words together that make sense and can combine into a nice mission statement and have a vision of what you're aiming for and what you want to achieve in the future. And it can even be the next year or two years. It doesn't have to be a ten year vision. You can if you want to. I like short term visions and impact matters. And this is how you will create an impact. I hope you've enjoyed the first episode on impact, mission, purpose, Vision. All of these three are fundamental for you to have the greatest impact with your business and with your life. So I hope they support you to take your business, to take your life to the next level, to contribute in a way that you feel is aligned and fulfilling for you, because this is what matters.
