The Fifth Hour: BENNY VS. THE PENNY (Week 14)

And it's unlike all the other Fifth Hours because it's Friday, and that means Benny versus the Penny. Week fourteen, he we go, welcome players, You're welcome. Are you up? It's time now Benny versus the Penny? All right, back at it again. Now before we get to the games, Danny G. We must, we must look back and see how things went last week? How did week thirto? I don't care about the penny. It's all about me And I had I had said I was due for a stinker l stink, Oh, Danny,

I had pointed that out. I said, I've been winning way too many games. Eventually this is gonna bite me. And they took his and the last week, Yeah, that happened. I had some bad beats last week, some games that were heading my direction that went sideways in week thirteen. Uh and as a result of that, and I can point out the games the Commanders had attend nothing lead over the Giant side Washington, the game ended up in

a tie. I lost the Jets. Uh. They had the ball late to cover at the one yard line against the Vikings. They couldn't get it and they turned it over. Yeah, I know that was pathetic. So that sucks. I did get a win. I should not have gotten the Packers. We're trying to run out the clock and they scored a touchdown against the Bears. So there was that. The Browns Texans game, I consider that a bad beat. And I'll tell you why. The Browns did not score an

offensive touchdown and still won by thirteen points. And they did not their office no touchdowns. We were completely wrong about the Titans. That was that was embarrassing. That was gutless football by them. Bad job. The other game that really stood out like a sore thumb was the Cowboy wrong about the Titans. I had the Eagles. Uh, well, the the cold Cowboy game though, was going to the

fourth quarter. It was AW one nineteen game, and I'm getting a bunch of points with the Colts, and and they put up the Cowboys put up thirty three points. And I still can't believe that it's a two point game going to fourth course, anyone's game and you end up losing fifty four nineteen. Unbelievable, it's ridunculous. Anyway, So that was last week, and overall went six and nine against the spread. So that is my first losing week since way back in Week two of the season. That's

a four winning percentage. And the Penny, you know how the Penny did, Danny, how do you think the Penny did? One game over five? How about one game under five? Penny? We're fifteen games. The Penny was seven and eight against the spread. So that's ah. It beat me because I warned both you and the Penny about taking the Chargers. Yeah, well listen the charges deciding to not not play in the second half there, right, it was they were up ten or whatever it was at halftime and then did

not complete the game. But anyway, all right, so the overall record on Benny versus the Penny before we get to the card this week, I Benny hundred and twelve wins, seventy eight losses and five ties. That's a five eight nine winning percential. Still good, not as good as I had been. The last couple of weeks have been blah and the penny nine three one oh two and three four seventies seven winning percentage winning for the Penny. That's a It was at nine games under five for the Penny,

and I know better these numbers. That is true. But these numbers, Danny, are fact checked by Roscoe the Parrot and David in winter Park, Florida, and by Robin Vegas and several others who are making sure I'm not doctoring the books at all. But anyway, when we picked the Thursday night game, we picked had already on the radio. So let's get right into the Thursday to the to the weekend games. Here, we'll get right into it. The

Sunday games, Week fourteen of the NFL. Minnesota will start with this Minnesota tendant to at Detroit five and seven. It's on Fox with Kenny Albert and Jonathan Vilma. The Vikings were originally a two and a half point favorite the Lions, though favored by two and a half in this game, and the money's pretty even at Ford Field in Detroit a dome, so the weather will not matter. The Vikings their last seven games five one and one against the spread, but Minnesota as a favorite. Some of

the numbers on this game. The Vikings are two and five their last seven as an underdog, and Minnesota has failed to cover five of their last six in that situation. The Lions, though at Ford Field, have been very good for gamblers eight one and one against the spread and dance gamble for all the nonsense and all the shenani against Dan Campbell seventeen seven and won ten games above five against the spread. Over the last games in Detroit,

they've covered five straight games. So there's a lot of a lot of positives if you look at some of these numbers there. I want to take the Lions again in this game, and I'll tell you why. Now. I went back and forth on this game. I was like, Wow, the Vikings are tenant to the Lions are five and seven, blah blah bah blah blah blah blah blah blah, But I'm taking Detroit. These teams played back in Week three, Detroit was able to score at will against Minnesota's defense,

and then the music stopped. There was that record scratch moment when Amon ross st Brown and DeAndre Swift both got hurt, but the Lions had a ten point lead, double digit lead in the fourth quarter, and then those guys got hurt. They're both back, so we assume the pedal to the medal should be there again for Detroit. Their defense is playing much better now than it was

in that game against Minnesota. Aiden Hutchinson is a total stud in the middle, and the Lions have been able to contain some decent running backs like Sequon Barkley, Raheem Mostard Travis at the end as well since the bye week, so they should be able to slow down Dalvin Cook. Kirk Cousins. When he's pressured, he's terrible. The Lions get pretty good pressure against Cousins in this game. Detroit thirty and the Vikings twenty four the final and a disagreement

right off the jump. Penny going with the Vikings, all right, so the penny will be oh and one I will be one to know next up that j E. T s sucks, sucks, suck. The New York Jets at seven and five, and here we go Buffalo at nine and three on CBS. The big game at CBS. Jim Nance Tony Romo will be there. The Bills opened up a nine point favorite. They're favored by nine and a half

over se of the handle. The numbers we have coming in on Buffalo, no blizzard, no lake effects, snow in the high Mark Stadium, cloudy, temperatures in the thirties at least a kickoff for this game, and the Jets six and one against the spread their last seven after a straight up loss. They've been a pretty good team with Robert Sala on the road overall, and then on the last six games there four and two against the spread

for the Gambles the Bills. You look at some of the numbers, they have Buffalo two and five against the spread their last seven against teams that have a winning record, and you break the game apart seven thousand different ways, I'm gonna take the Jets plus the nine and a half. The Jets just beat the Bills back in Week nine with Zach Wilson, but Buffalo they were damaged in that game. They did not have their full roster because of injuries. Have gotten some guys back. But Von Miller is out

for the year. Now he's gone, he's not coming back. And the Jets have changed quarterbacks. Matt right, Matt White is the quarterback. Don't know is he is he right? I don't know because he's had two games against the Bad News Bears, he had three touchdowns Matt White and was great. And then this last week against the Jets, he he had a bug in his system, two interceptions,

no touchdowns. You mentioned the issues that White had right at the goal line and the Jets Mike White, Mike White, I say, Matt White, Mike White, Mike White at the goal line. This guy right there, I mean twice for the for the Jets unable to get it done. So, uh, we'll find out which Mike White shows his cousin's name, Matt. That's the friends with his cousin, Matt. But but Mike White there. So I expect the middling performance by Mike White in this game, and he's been able to move

the ball a lot between the twenties. The Jets defense is pretty good. They're number four in the NFL. Some of the numbers are adjusted value over average, whatever that means. A v O A and I go back to my default position, my golden rule. Any time you get over seven points in a divisional game and a revenge game, you know you take the point. I know it's avenging for Buffalo, but I'm gonna take the points here, and Bills can still win this game by touchdown and the

Jets will cover the spread. You're getting a lot of a lot of wiggle room with the Jets. Bills thirty one, Jets twenty four the final and it looks like the penny as a white fan also with the Jets. Alright, so we both agree on that. Next up, Baltimore eight and four at Pittsburgh five and seven on CBS with Kevin Harlan and Trent Green the Steelers. They opened up an underdog. Ravens were four point favorites, but now Pittsburgh

is two and a half point favorites. There's a six and a half point spread change from what the original opening line was. At the former Hines Field in Pittsburgh, cloudy, typical overcast Pennsylvania day. There temperatures in the thirties at kickoff. This is an outdoor stadium, so take that for what it's worth. Baltimore, the Ravens without Lamar Jackson, I actually have a winning record since he was drafted against the spread now, not overall, but against the spread, nine and

seven against the spread. And that's important because Lamar is not playing in this game and Baltimore fifteen two and one against the spread in the regular season as an underdog since the start of that season ten and nine outright, but they've been great. That is the highest cover percentage winning percentage in the NFL, and the second best team is Tennessee as an underdog. But the change here is

at quarterback. I want to take the Ravens. I went back and forth on this game, and I I crunched some more numbers and I decided to take Baltimore going with backup Tyler Huntley in this game under center with Lamar out. And this means that the Ravens are gonna have to run the ball, and they have the ability to do that. Gus Edwards and Kenyan Drake and the running game have to snazz up that offense there, and I expect both teams to be stuck in the mud and a grind it out, low scoring game. I like

getting some points here. And while I am a fan of Pittsburgh's defense with t J. Watt and Micky Fitzpatrick devon Bush guys like that. I like them as underdogs, I don't trust them as favorites. Kenny Picketts at three straight games without a turnover, and I'm not saying he's due, but I don't trust him. And I expect the Ravens to step up rally around Huntley, the backup quarterback here. So I will take the Steelers to actually win the game,

but the Ravens to cover the spread. Steelers seventeen and the Ravens sixteen the final, and the penny is going with the Steelers, alright, so we disagree on that. Next up, Philadelphia eleven and one, top team in the NFL record wise, that the New York Giants seven four and one. It's on Fox from Jersey with Joe Davis, the old Dodger guy, and Darryl Moose Johnston ex Cowboy on the call. The

Eagles opened up a six point favorite. Philadelphia favored by seven in this game in Jersey against the Giants, and the money is pretty even on this game him. The Giants though seven and one against the spread as an underdog this season, and that sounds like a good record. That is the most in the NFL, most underdog covers for any team. Of course, most teams aren't underdogs eight times like the Giants have been here. I'm gonna take

the Giants again. I'm gonna ride with the Jets. The Eagles are styling and profiling right now with Jalen Hurts. They just beat up the Titans and the A. J. Brown revenge game. Now they have the I ninety five blood bath rivalry game with the Giants. They are going to be dinged up to a little bit on the defense. Robert Quinn, one of the guys that got over from Chicago as his nie scope this week. That's not a good sign New York. The great former Ram, the great

Robert Quinn. How dare you but New York They have started to slide a little bit. The last five games. They're one three and one straight up. The only win over the Low League Texans. So that's a bad quarter of a season. And part of the issue here is that Danny Dimes is starting to play more like Danny Dimes.

He's regressed and that's made things harder to trickle down with Sequon Barkley and all that, but the last month or so, Daniel Jones last five games has a passer rating right around ninety, which is not good, not good. So I think Philly will win this game. But again, you're talking about a divisional game. You're getting a touchdown. You gotta take the Giants in this game. Otherwise, don't

bet the game. I'm taking the Giants here. I'll take the seven points, Eagles thirty and the Giants twenty four. The final penny is agreeing with you, going with the Giants, all right, So we're in agreement on that benny versus the penny. Next up, Cleveland five and seven at Cincinnati eight and four. It is on CBS and they have the call Greg Gumbel, who hates sports radio, and Adam Rceiletta.

The Bengals opened up a four point favorite. This is all the way up to six at the former Paul Brown Stadium in the natty, cloudy temperatures in the forties of kickoff. Most people seem to think the Bengals on the right side here. Cincinnati nine and one against the spread their last ten with Joe Burrow, and even though the Browns have done very well against the Bengals, gambling wise, Cincinnati has covered eleven of the last fifteen games. I'm

gonna take the Bengals in this game. I'll lay the number. That's a big number for me to lay, but I'm gonna do it. History says that Cleveland has Joe Burrow's number Joey franchises oh in four in his career against the Clevelanders. But that tells you what has happened, not what's going to happen. The Browns have lost uh, They've lost their moji, They've lost their way on offense, and did not even get a touchdown on offense against the

Texans last week as a war crime. To Shawn Watson looked not only like a quarterback, he looked like he was drinking out of a fire hose against the worst team in the NFL, as dry as the Sahara Desert. The Texans offense just terrible in Cleveland. Could not do much of anything in that game. Since he should win this game by a landslide, I don't expect Watson to get much better here, as he has not played in a couple of years. So Bengals thirty one and the

Browns thirteen. The final and the penny likes Deshaun Watson and the Browns. Maybe the Penny wants to give Watson a massage here. That could be the Maybe it's like a prank or something like that. I don't know, all right, Next up Jacksonville four and eight. I guess so, Jacksonville four in eight, Tennessee seven and five on CMS with Andrew Catalan and James lofton this game. Not exactly hitting

the bull's eye, but we bet every game. We handicapped every game, so the Titans opened up a four point favorite. They are favored by four still and most people betting on the Tennessee Titans. This game. Light rain in Nashville in the forecast and in the fifties at kickoff. Tennessee is six and oh against the spread against losing teams this season. The Titans eight and two against the spread

their last tense, so some good numbers there. Jackson goes just one in five against the number on the road this season. The Jags are my pick. I don't love the pick, but I'm taking the Jacks for a couple of reasons. I expect a much better performance, a bounce back performance. They were absolutely mocked up and down the field by Detroit last week. Trevor Lawrence he's got a bit of a toe thing. I'm hearing he's gonna play. We'll find out if that's the case. Obviously my pick

will change if he's not playing. Nevertheless, uh we we believe after that kicking the nuts by the Lions last week, the Titans will will be facing a much better upon our Tennessee had their own issues last week, but the Titans secondary blows and so if Lawrence plays, he should be able to pick apart that defense with Christian Kirk and Bai Jones and make some big plays there. Tennessee has been a much better underdog team, as we talked

about earlier than a favorite. And Ryan Tannehills looked terrible at quarterback, the current starter. With Derrick Henry in the backfield, the flame Heads ranked twenty nine in yards per game. The Titans were roasted by the Eagles, who said, and then they fired John Robinson. They're a head coach, so dysfunction, junction,

what's your function? And I'm gonna take the Tennessee Titans to win, but the Jags to cover a close game of field goal game Titans twenty and the Jags seventeen the final, and I wish I could had talked to Penny out of going with Towne Hill, but the Penny landed on heads going with the Titans. All right, bad job by the aforementioned Penny. Next up Houston. They sucked their one ten and one at Dallas, and Dallas comes

in nine and three. Kevin Coogler and Mark Sanchez have the call as the Cowboys were a fourteen and a half point favorite. They were bet all the way up the seventeen and then that didn't pass the smell test. The latest line we have Cowboys are a sixteen and a half point favorite. How you like the cozy up

to that line? Sixteen and a half. Most people think the Cowboys will cover their a national glamour team, and they're getting around of the bets in favor of Dallas at a T and T stadium in the house that Jerry Jones built, mostly cloudy temperatures in the fifties that kick off. The Cowboys are not going to be my pick. I'm gonna take the Texans in this game. Now, NFL teams that have been favored by seventeen or more twelve and three against the spread but this sixteen and a half,

that half point means everything. And Dallas has been the greatest cover team in the NFL. They're winning by an average of eight and a half points so far this year. But the main thing for me is Davis Mills is coming back. And Davis Mills is a bum. But he's not as big a bum as Kyle Allen, who's wretched, who should be put out the pasture? This guy incompetent

in Salvent. Quarterback Mills is at least average, and that gives Houston an opportunity to get the back door cover at you know, and you know, I mean they should get the back door cover here. Uh break down the game and go back and forth. And the Cowboys how do they spend their week? They had the fourth quarter come back. They then begged Odell Beckham to come to the team. They then hung out and realized Jerry Jones cannot allow Odell Beckham to come back and play in

his situation. Anyway, I go on and on Cowboys thirty three and the Texans third, Texans seventeen. Penny going with Houston, all right, So the penny is a big Davis Mills fan, and you're going with David Mills. All right, next up late games, the late television window. Here's a matchup. It will give you goose bumps. Carolina four and eight in Seattle seven and five, unless it does it on Fox with Adam Aman and Mark Slayer at the Seahawks open seven point favorites and then people say what are we

doing here? Yeah? What what's going on? In the blink of an eye, and went all the way down to three and a half. That's where it is right now. Seattle favored by three and a half in this game. Temperature in the forties, light rain in the Seattle area tis the time of the season, and looming field is the name, whatever corporate name they gave it. Carolina oh and four against the spread fire following a bye week

over the past five seasons. I actually like the Panthers in this game, and I like the Panthers a lot. It's one of my better plays this weekend. So take that with a grain assault. But Seattle, they allowed the pitiful l A I am, this group of misfits on the offensive line and the backfield to run for a hundred and seventy one yards. The Rams ran for a hundred seventy one yards. Now they go against they being Carolina, a quality running team, like quality running team with the

electric Deante Foreman. This is the guy. He's the guy we trust as the X factor. Foreman is averaged four point six points or four pants six yards per carry, I should say, and his eyes are gonna be lit up like the size of saucers. So I'm gonna take the Buccaneers, actually the Carolina, the Buccaneers, the Carolina Panthers who just played the Buccaneers couple weeks ago, and Seattle, who also played the Buccaneers a couple of weeks ago.

But I'm gonna take Seattle and the Panthers twenty three of the final, and the penny going with the Panthers, alright, the penny going with the Panthers as well, So we agree on that. Next up, Tampa Bay at San Francisco. It is on Fox with Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen. The Bucks six and sixty eight and four Niners opened up a six point favorite. They're down all the way

to three and a half. Temperatures in the high fifties and it will go down to the low fifties as the afternoon goes on light rain in the forecast at Levi's Stadium, the Niners getting most of the public money they handle around. Tom Brady has been great against rookie quarterbacks, as you might imagine, twenty three and six straight up against rookie quarterbacks, but fourteen and fifteen against the spread, so actually a losing record for Gamblers against rookie quarterbacks.

Tampa three eight won this season, tied with the Rams for the worst cover percentage in the NFL. And I am going to take despite that number, I'm gonna take the Buccaneers here. Tom Brady fresh off the Monday night come back game, he played a half a quarter of good football. The rest of the game he sucked. And now he goes against Mr Irrelevant Brock Purdy, a guy who was born in December, and Tom Brady made his debut in the year two thousand and So here's what

it comes down to. Is this the first reel real game where where the forty Niners can win with their backup. So one thing when a backup comes in off the bench and hasn't had a lot of practice time, and and and and also the other team hasn't seen the backup, but brock Purdy. Now teams know he's gonna play. The Tampa Bay Bucks defense knows he's gonna play. Will he still be able to get the ball into Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel's hands and let them work their magic

that yaketty ah yards after a catch. I'm skeptical. I liked what I saw pretty last week, but I always am skeptical following a performance like that. Everyone's kissing your ass. Now you gotta go back out there again. And so the Niners getting over or the the Niners laying over a field goal, the Bucks getting over a field goal. So Tampa is the right side here. Forty Niners twenty four Bucks twenty three the final, and that's a cover

for Tampa Bay. And the Penny thinks that all the dad jokes have been pretty great going with the Niners. Pretty pretty pretty all right. Next up for us, we've got that's see here Cansah City at Denver as everyone's still reading the Riot Act to Russell Wilson, Denver three and nine. Kansas City comes in nine and three. It's on CBS with Iron Eagle and Charles Davis. They have the call. Most of The money here is on the

side of the Denver Broncos, which is surprising. The Chiefs favored by nine and a half mostly cloudy temperatures in the high thirties at kickoff with Iron Eagle and Charles Davis on the call. The Chiefs opened up a nine point for actually seven a half there up to nine and half there They opened up a seven a point fair excuse me, their favored by nine and a half. Most people think this is free money. Just bet on the Chiefs who are heck, bet on whoever you want.

But it doesn't matter. You're gonna win this game either way, unless you're not. Russell Wilson under center for the Broncos five and all against the spread in his career of at least seven and a half point underdog status one and four straight up in those games, but he's only been an eight point or greater underdog twice in his career, so very rarely. This is uncharted waters for Russ Mr Unlimited and Kansas City has not been very good against

conference opponents there. One in seven against the spread. That's very light. That is the last eight matchups here, and I'm gonna take the Broncos in this game. Russell Wilson, who's not good. I'm not betting on this game because of Russell Wilson, but you're getting later in the year. There's opportunities here to still save some face, trying to cut the damage, cut your losses if you will. And he's gonna need the defense to stop the bleeding. That's it.

That's the obvious answer. He had been the devil for some time in Denver and that will not happen this week. Not likely at all that happened this week. But if he you know, if he did, that's that's fine. So I'm gonna take the Chiefs twenty seven and the Broncos twenty the final in the Penny says he's riding with you and ridiculous Russ. All right, we agree on that.

So Chiefs twenty seven Broncos twenty games final. I'm taking the Broncos plus the points there, all right, last game, last game for the Sunday car then we'll get to the Monday night game. But Sunday Night Football Miami eight and four at the Chargers six and six on and be see this game flexed. It seems like a dog matchup. The Charges are average, the Dolphins lost to the Niners last week, but NBC had to make this move a couple of weeks ago. So Mike Tarico and Chris Collinsworth

will be there. And there's a chance, Danny, that I will be at this game also. I maybe depending on the Chargers allowing me in. I don't know if they're gonna let me in or not. Are you gonna commute with Eddie Garcia? No, no, because I will be showing up to work, unlike Eddie, who will not show up to work. He does not like working. So I will be there. Eddie will not be there, but the the Dolphins game opened up and pick him. Miami is a three and a half point favorite in this game at

SOFI Stadium. Clear skies fifty nine degrees at kickoff, so a little cool effect. There's a chance of rain in the Greater LA area on Sunday, so it might even rain a little bit. Don't matter, there's a roof over the stadium. Miami nine and one straight up as a favorite their last ten, but only five and four against the spread and to a tongue of Ioloa eighteen twelve and one against the spread in his career ten and

seven as a favorite. So he's got a winning record, not a great record, not as sexy record as a favorite. The Chargers, Uh, They're six and four against the spread their last ten as an underdog. I'm gonna take the Dolphins as a small favorite here on the road. I'm not gonna shy away from this game because Miami is getting three and a half. That hook usually scares people away, but I Am not going to be intimidated by that hook. The Dolphins are the pick. Miami gonna bounce back this

week to a tongue of Bolla. Was sloppy against the Niners. Miami's defense was out of sorts against Brock Purty for much of that game, and the offense are getting some guys back. I expected much cleaner performance of their second game in a row on the West Coast. The Dolphins will win this game, not because of tour, but because of the running game right behind closed doors. The Chargers are freaking out. They can't stop the run. Raheem Mostart and Jeff Wilson, the guy that got from the Niners,

both of them x Niners. The Chargers have the worst rush defense in the NFL. They're allowing five point five yards per carry to their opponent. Also, the Chargers banged up on defense Derwin James with a quad injury. He may not play in this game. There's a couple of

other key players out. Derwin James, though, leads all NFL defensive backs with tackles, which is also a sign that the Chargers linebackers and defensive line aren't making a lot of players there to stop the running game when Derwin James is the last line of defense and he's the one flying around making all those plays. So Dolphins thirty one, Chargers twenty four. The final is the pick, and the penny ain't s curt E. They're going with the Dolphins

all night. Dolphins is the pick. Last game here, last game of the Card Week fourteen, we go to Monday Night football and it's Arizona four and eight at home hosting New England six and six on the broadcast with ABC, Slash, ESPN. Joe Buck and Troy Aikman have the call. The Patriots opened up a two point favorite. They were favored by one only one point favorite for New England in is a what is a must win game for the Patriots.

They have very little margin for error at this point at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, clear skies, temperatures in the fifties that kick off. New England seven three and one against the spread after a loss since the start of last year, So the last couple of years they've been very good for gamblers coming off a loss. And Bill Belichick in his career is he's almost thirty games above five in that spot. New England four and one against Arizona under Bill Belichick against the spread. So

there's all kinds of numbers here. We can toss out Kyler Murray's terrible stats. I'm gonna take the Patriots in this game. I'll lay the one point. I don't need the one point, I don't want the one point. I'll just lay the one point. So I'm gonna take the Patriots. Here's why both these teams are coming off by weeks. New England quit against the Bills before the bye. They quit before that. You know in the second Halbury that

game was a bad situation there for New England. The Cardinals have been a fun house of horrors here like it. The Kyler Murray is at loggerheads with Cliff Kingsbury. Murray's not happy with DeAndre Hopkins. His mannerism scream of a guy who hates his co workers. They don't seem very happy with him. It's a mutually mutual, mutual group. They don't like each other. And I expect the MENSA member, Bill Belichick to keep Murray at bay, keep him off bounds.

Even though the Patriots have had problems with mobile quarterbacks Alligai arms, Murray has not exactly been running around very much at all. So I don't know how big a factor that's going to be the only flying the ointment. And I'm gonna bet on the Patriots anyway. But Mac Jones, who's been all over the map, he'll throw for a lot of yards between the twenties. But the Patriots are tied for dead last in red zone efficiency, scoring touchdowns on just twelve of thirty two journeys into the red

zone inside the twenty yard line. Now, the good news is Arizona is just what the doctor ordered. Arizona's thirty one in scoring defense. So New England much better defensively. That's the key unit in this game. Everything else is relatively even page Its offense not great, Cardinals offense not great. Patriots will win this game.
