The Fifth Hour: BENNY VS. THE PENNY (WEEK 12)

Hunting Mooning, Danny's us that a word hunting mooning. It should be, Ben, absolutely should be. You know, actually made up a word too, Ben. I call it decreptifying. What is that? What is that? I put it such? It's so fearful that it brings you almost to death. It's to creptifying. Oh, which is my radio resume flying? But anyway, alright, no, I so it's week twelve. Let's strike up the band here, Alex. We've got to make people money, is what we gotta do.

Not you? Well, you're the penny, You're the voice of the penny. Here we go the big professionally done. Open. Alright, let's get into it now. Before we look ahead, Alex, we must look back. I screwed this up last week because I forgot to do this at the beginning. Bad job by me. But you were here. You were here last week as the voice of the penny. Did you survive. I know that you're not you're not you do sports radio,

but you're a renaissance man. Yes, this is a little hard, oh sports, this penny versus the penny, Right, it is it is, you know, it's it's almost just enough Ben where I enjoy it. Still, it's not your jam. And I appreciate that you're leaving your comfort zone. Yes, and I don't. I very rarely leave my comfort and my wife forces me to do that from time with them. But you you know you've met her. But I'm usually in my own bubble like most people. And so I

appreciate that you've come over from the anime. And someday, when you become officially the big star of anime, you can tell in your story when you're being interviewed on television and whatnot and and big internet shows, you can say, well, you know, at one point before I became who I am. I actually had to do a cheesy gambling show with this overnight guy and I I so anyway, But but here it is. So Week eleven, we had fourteen games on the card and I did not have a great

feel for the card. I thought it was all right. I didn't think it was it was gonna go my way that well. I thought I'd be a middling week, but I actually ended up with the highest I believe I'm correct on this, the highest winning percentage I've had all season and any one we got. I was ten and four against the spread last week. That's a seven four teen winning percentage. So another good week and I'm still waiting for the bottom to fall out. The worst week I've had is Week two. That was the only

losing week that we had. Every other week I've been ahead of five, and usually way ahead of five. And the penny you representing the penny, Well, no, it's actually not been the penny for the first time since I want to go back here, since Week six, the penny had a winning record. Let's go, yeah, there you go. We both had winning records. Yes, the penny was nine and five, so that no. But last the week before

the penny went five and nine. That job by honest abe there to go five and nine the week prior, so the Pennies first winning weeks since way back in week number six. As we said, so the overall records. Now, if you look at your audio device you're listening to, you can see the chiron right there the graphic. Uh and there I am nine and five. That is a six sixteen winning percentage documented on the podcast. The penny still under five hundred? Will the penny get over five

hundred this week? And a few weeks back the penny was exactly five hundred, which is where it should be, where it should be penny eight six and three. That's a four seventy six winning percentage. And so that's how we have done. I've got I've got a pretty sizeable lead, but there's a lot of games to go. There's a lot of time to give it all back the second half. But I'm not trying to get back. I'm gonna destroy

the penny. I'm gonna take that penny. I'm gonna put it on the train tracks and I'm gonna wait for the train to run by and just flatten that penny. Savage savage man, all right, let's get started with the actual games here alex as the Voice of the Penny. First game up Baltimore seven and three at Jacksonville three and seven. It's on CBS. Andrew Catalan and James Lofton have a call. Ravens opened a three and a half

point favorite. They were favored by four light rain temper tears in the low seventies in Jacksonville for this game. Some of the numbers here they handle almost on Jacksonville. Baltimore is four and one against the spread on the road this season. Their nineteen eight and two against the spread in Lamar Jackson's careers, so they've been a great bet as a road team. Jacksonville. They played four games

against teams that have a winning record. They're owing for Trevor Lawrence is a terrible record against the spread, and all these numbers are against the spread. Jacksonville this season one and six their last seven games against the gambling line. I'm taking the Ravens here, and I'll tell you why. Lamar Jackson gotta get out of that stump. Last seven games. He's got six touchdown passes, five interceptions of passer rating below eighty not exactly a money grab, free agent deb

type season. Here. The Ravens offense should have, could have, would have scored many more points last week. They got stuck in the mud, their own self created mud, a lot of penalties, self inflicted dropped passes, sacks that they allowed last week against a bad Panther team. This should be just what the doctored order doctor order here. Jacksonville not very good against the past in many statistical categories, and so you think Mark Andrews the tight end and

Marcus Robinson, their top receiver right now, should flourish. But I love John Harbaugh on the road. It's a small line. It's four, it's not that many, and coming off of teams coming off of by playing John Harbaugh's Ravens are are not doing well. They're the team's coming off to buy playing Baltimore last ten one eight and one against the spread Ravens twenty four Jags nineteen the final and

the penny picks tales bend. The penny went tales, all right, So the penny going tales and that means the penny taking the Ravens in this game. So Baltimore is the PIC. Next up for US Denver at Carolina Denver three and seven Carolina three, and it's on Fox with Chris Myers and Robert Smith. Chrismyers part of the Fox Sports Radio Alumni Association prior to Alex Tisher working at f s ARE, but Chris did work there back and they did some shows with him. And the Broncos opened a two and

alf point favorite. They're favorite by two in this game, and most everyone's betting on Carolina. Three of the action last we had on the Panthers, mostly Sonny in Charlotte, temperatures in the low sixties that kick off in North Carolina Denver owen four against the spread as a favorite this season, Carolina, they were dreadful under Matt Rule as a team to bet on. They were three and sixteen against the spread the last nineteen games Matt Rule coach.

But under Steve Wilkes there four and two against the number and Sam Donald returning normally you don't get excited about Sam Donald, but he can't be any worse than Baker Mayfield was last week. And I just liked the the gusto the Panthers have played with. They've scratched, they've claude, they've fought for Steve Wilkes, the interim coach, and Denver they they lost a heartbreaker to the Raiders last week and overtime. They're completely cooked at this point at three

and seven. The Broncos offense has averaged less than fifteen points per game. Defense has been solid, but Carolina's defense has been pretty good of late as well. So I'm taking the Panthers seventeen and the Broncos sixteen the final, and the penny picks tails again, Ben Alright, so the penny going with the road team in that one. So the penny taking the Denver Broncos. Good luck to the

penny on that. Russell Wilson, Mr Unlimited All right. Next up Atlanta five and six at Washington six and five. It's a Fox game. Adam A. Mein and Marsh Labor in the broadcast booth. Now, the Commanders opened up a three point favorite. They are favored by four and a half and the money's pretty even, although slight leaned to the Falcons at FedEx Field, temperatures in the fifties and

it's expected to be clear at kickoff Washington. What's going on there with the team formerly known as the Redskins five oh and one against the spread their last six games, so they've been cooking and their four oh and one with Taylor Heineke as the starter. Heineke as a favorite in his career, has been three and one against the spread. Washington this season as a favorite is three and oh. So that tells you what has happened in Atlanta has come crashing back down to earth in the gambling market.

They started the year six and oh against the numb where the number has been adjusted, and right now, last four games a dirty birds or dirty dirty dirty oh and four against the spread. I'm gonna take the uh, the Washington Commanders in this game. And I was going back and forth on this, and I normally like to lay the points, but I'm going the other way. I'm gonna I'm gonna take Washington and lay the points. Uh.

There's a wide gap between these teams. And the more I crunched the numbers, the more I realize what am I doing with Atlanta. Washington ranked in some of the adjusted statistics the Nerd Stats the tenth best team in the NFL. The Falcons are twenty night the Commandos. They impressed me last week. I thought they were gonna Buckle against Houston, and they did not. It was a letdown game. They keep on winning. The formula here is pretty simple.

Run run, run, run, run, run, run, Ryan Robinson, Antonio Gibson, and I'm getting some Jimmy G vibes from Taylor Heineken. I'm not sure if I'm the only one. I don't know if you're getting those fibes. But Taylor Heineke, his numbers blow, but but he has been able to be under center. And while he's not statistically great, Washington has been much more successful with him than just about anyone else recently. So I'll take the Washington football team six

and the Atlanta Football team twenty the final. And the penny goes, oh, he's actually I'm watching him right now. He's flipping the penny. Alex. There it is, Ben, It's heads, all right, So heads it is. That means the penny picking the home team, and that would be in agreement with me, the penny picking Washington in this game. We are keeping track of this for posterity's sake. Next up Tampa Bay five and five at Cleveland three and seven. It's on Fox with Kenny Albert, Friend of the Show

and Jonathan Vilma. They have the call. Buck opened a three point favorite, favorite by three in Cleveland and a nice typical late November day in Cleveland, temperatures in the forties and raining. It's a chamber of commerce kind of day there in northern Ohio and the Buccaneers getting most of the money. You look at some of the numbers here. Tampa Bay won six and one against the spread their

last eight games. They did beat Seattle last week, although the Seahawks came back a little bit in the second half. I'm gonna take the Browns in this game. The Browns have been miserable. They they did finish the game though. Against Buffalo, I got a backdoor cover. Thank you very much Cleveland on that the week plot prior, they got flushed down the toilet by the Dolphins and they've given up seventy points the last two weeks. That is a

troubling statistic going into this game. But Tom Brady, you do some of the math on that and how he has played this year at this has not been in a wagon on offense for Tampa. The wind over the Seahawks look good, but you notice Seattle they were sleep walking the first half. The game started at six thirty in the morning as body clock time West coast time in Germany. Once they woke up, they played very well. I'll play Tampa in the in the late stages that game.

So you're talking about a rainy Chile day in Cleveland. I love the ground game of Nick Chuba Lob lob to get it done there. Dinged up interior defense for Tampa Bay based on the numbers we have as we are recording Benny versus the Penny right now, so I will take the Cleveland Browns seventeen and Tom Brady's Buccaneers sixteen. The final ben the Penny has went heads again. Alright, so heads it is, so the Penny agreeing with me

taking the Cleveland Browns in that game. Next up Cincinnati six and four at Tennessee seven and three on CBS with Iron Eagle and Charles Davis. Bengals opened a two point favorite there up to a three point favorite most of the handle in this game going in favor of the Tennessee Titans. Cloudy and fifty seven degrees at kickoff in the Music City in Nashville, Tennessee. Tennessee has been a wonderful team as an underdog there eleven and four

against the spread their last fifteen. But check this out. Tennessee has covered eight straight games. That is the longest active streak in the NFL. Tells you what they have done, not what they're going to do. But one more cover here and the Titans, Remember the Titans, They would tie the second longest streak to past fifteen years. The most recent was Green Bay last year they covered nine strade but this is tied now for the longest cover streaks

since the franchise left Texas to go to Tennessee. They were originally in Memphis for a couple of years. That was back in before I was in in a live craziness. One more cover here, So if Tennessee covers the spread today, that would be the longest streak in the Super Bowl era for that franchise since the Love Me Blue nineteen seventy five. Houston Oilers, Holy crap, that's a long time ago. Cincinnati seven and one against the spread since Week three,

so they played well, I'm taking that Titans. Now I'm taking the times. We're betting on Tennessee. The reason I like Tennessee is their defense. There are top ten defense and getting to the quarterback. The offensive line played better last week for Cincinnati. I don't trust the offensive line getting it done again here, and so if I'm right about the Titans, they will force Joe Burrow to make some quick throws, some inaccurate throws which leads to interceptions

in complete passes. Jamaar Chase does come back, but what version are you going to get? Mike rabele as a home dog has been the thanks Giving miracle, Thanksgiving weekend miracle in Tennessee. And that defense, that's the side they have given up twenty or more points just one time since September. Since late September, they've got a mini buy, so they got a little more time off for this game. It'll be a low scoring game, but the wrong team

is favored. Titans will get to eight and three Tennessee twenty and up Ben Gals seventeen the final Ben the penny has won Heads yet again. All right, so the penny taking the home team, and remember Benny versus the Penny. Home team is Heads and the road team is Tales. Of the home team here is Tennessee, So the Penny picking the Tennessee Titans in this one. Next up Houston one eight and one, the NFL's worst team, and Miami Miami Miami at seven and three on ciby as with

Spirodidas and Jay Feely. The Dolphins opened a nine and a point favorite. They've been bet up the thirteen and a half. Everyone thinks this is a free money game that all Miami has to do is show up and they're gonna win this game. Light rain temperatures in the mid eighties in the tropical paradise where the Dolphins play their games at hard Rock Stadium. Now, some of the numbers here on this game the to a tongue of Eloa Dolphins eight and oh straight up as a home favorite,

six and two against the spread. Houston, though there four and one against the spread of at least a seven point line. They're getting almost double that in this game. Texans are two and oh as a double digit underdog this season against the spread. And this is a historic point spread. If you're into these kind of things, and what kind of point dexter is not right, Tisher, you're a big nerd. You're into this, yes, man, of course you're hanging on my every word. I can tell yes. Sorry,

Miami has not been this big effe favorite. They have not been at least an eleven point favorite since twenty oh three Tonio Gays nineteen years ago. That was also against Houston. They were a fourteen point favorite. Miami lost that game for crapping giggles. Dolphins three fourteen games without being at least an eleven point favorite. That is the second longest streak in the NFL. That's gonna come to an end here this week, Detroit. If you're wondering, the

Lions have the longest streak. They were last that big a favorite in nineteen ninety six. How old was Alex tysher in nine were even alive? Oh my god, Lord have mercy. Alright, alright, man, oh my god. Alright, the Texans are my pick here. I'm gonna take the Texas. Now, I realized this is risky business, and a six year old acts Tisher would have known even at age six that this is Miami is third in yards per games. Houston is dead last, Alex, they're dead last in yards

per game. And you look at you know some of the numbers here. The defense for the Texans is thirty feet in that category. So that's why they're the worst team. But I'm I'm gambling for a couple of things here, and all of this is a you know, put your neck out situation. But my logic behind the Texans pick is this, the Texans have been a middling team. They've been in statistically in these games for three quarters or for half. But normally what has happened is Davis Mills

goes helter skelter and messes up. He's getting benched. He's not playing in this game. The Texans turning to Kyle Allen. We've heard that name before. He's played. He's been unstable, he's been unreliable. That's why he keeps changing teams. But he has had some really great performances mixed in with the crap uh and he started seventeen games, seven and ten career record. He has four career games with two touchdowns and two or more touchdowns and in receptions three

games with three plus interceptions. Just for comparison sake, Davis Mills has two games only two, and he started many more games with three plus touchdowns and no interceptions. He's got six games with two or more interceptions. So as bad as Houston is, and they've earned every one of their losses. Eight of them. Only one of those losses has been by thirteen and a half or more points, and the Dolphins only have one win by thirteen or

more points. So that was last week against Cleveland Brown team. That was was a mess. So I'm taking the Dolphins. Thirty four Texans twenty three Texans will be the right side of the bet, and we'll flip the penny up with Alex representing the penny. see the other side. Flip it over. Let me see all right, it's a legitimate It's not unless it's a legit. It's a legit penny. That's the way the penny go. That's the way. Are you smelling fishy business just because I did well last week? Is I'm just I'm trying to figure out. I mean, all these he keeps coming up heads that's anyway that that's the Dolphins. So the Dolphins the pick for the penny. The home team again

home Team Heads Road Team Tales. Next up Chicago Chicago Chicago dub Bears three and eight at the Jets six and four. It's on Fox with Joe Davis and Darryl moose Johnston. They have the call. The Jets opened a three and a point favorite. They are favored by six in this particular game. So that's the that's the number in this game, and this this game has changed quite a bit because of the quarterback situation for both teams.

Will give you some of the of the numbers on this as far as the gambling line UH wide percentage wide percentage in favor of the Jets in this particular game. Jets coming off a bad loss as opposed to a good loss. A bad loss to the New England Patriots last week. New York has not been a six point favorite since Week ten of the season. Last time the Jets were a four point favorite was in twenty nineteen. Jets have been a good team this year off of loss.

There are three and all against the spread. They're also four and oh against the gambling line against teams that have a losing record, and so those are some positive stature. Chicago has not been a good play as an underdog. But it's it's a whole new world here. We're out in the cosmos because the Bears will not have Justin Fielts out. We we believe, we were told that with a separated shoulder. But I'm I'm gonna the Jets in this game. I was gonna take the Bears had we

had Fields. He's not, from what we understand, gonna play separated shoulder serrow. He's out. Zack Wilson has been benched. He won't even be in uniform either in this game. So you've got Mike White for the Jet season in the cockpit as the pilot versus Trevor Simeon in the Bears cage or dan? Is it a cage or a den? I guess it's a den, right, don't they call it? It's a Lions den? Is it a Bear's den? To believe? So, all right, you're the animal guy, you know what, you

protect him, You're all exactly right. Yeah. Uh, Anyway, this is a bad matchup the Bears the Bears. Though, here's the deal. I look at the Bears as a one man band. There was one guy making plays the last month, and that was Justin Fields and assuming he's not there. They become the Headless Horseman. And you know, we know that the story that the headless Horseman. Uh, we don't trust Mike White very well either. Joe Flacco likely will get into this game of White has a reversal of

fortune and rides the vomit comment. But we do believe in the Jets defense. That is a top notch units, top unit on the field. Of all the four Jets offense, all six right, because you've got special teams offense defense of all six units three on three, the Jets defense is the right side. And they gotta win this game, and they should win it comfortably. I don't know how the Bears are gonna score with Trevor Simeon outside of

turnovers by Mike White in a short field. Up next after this game, the Jets have the Vikings and the Bills on the road. So you gotta win this game. Get that mojo back. Jets twenty three Bears nine. The final and the Penny picks. We have our tales band. Penny went tales all right, So tails it is. And so for the first time in a while, a road pick, and that means you're taking the Chicago Bears, so a

disagreement on that game. We'll get to a late television window now and Benny versus the Penny Man versus Meadow, Las Vegas three and seven at Seattle six and four. It's on CBS with Greg Gumble and Adam Archiletta on the call. The Seahawks opened a three point favorite, their favorite by three and a half now and the handle on this game. Most everyone betting on the Seahawks. Rain showers and temperatures in the forties at Looming Field in Seattle.

The Seahawks four and one against the spread their last five. Derek Carr, He's been a pretty good play as a road underdog since twenty nineteen. Twelve and seven against the spread, not straight up. I'm gonna take the Raiders in this game plus the points. This is a turning point game for Seattle. They misfired in Germany playing the Bucks. We talked about that earlier, discombobulated. It was an early start for them. The Raiders are coming off an overtime win

over the Broncos. We do expect a rebound for Geno Smith. We don't think Glass Slipper has broken yet, and the Raiders are just a miserable team at stopping the past against the past, Max Crosby has been the only player earning his keep up front, and we do expect a cacophony of big plays from DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett

in the passing game. But the Raiders have been the kind of team that's there and they hang around, they hang around, they hang around, and they're they're just bad enough to figure out a way not to hammer down to win, to screw it up, and they get behind the eight ball late in the game. And so I say that trend continues, and I know that say what has happened doesn't it's not guaranteed to happen. But that's my layman's perspective on this. So the Seahawks will win it.

But I love the hook on that. I love getting the three and a half. And that's the line here. So Seahawks thirty and the Raiders seven. The final penny is going tails again, Ben. So the penny taking the road team that would be lost Vegas the Raiders is the pick a million miles away. Uh. We go down to the next game, the Chargers five and five at the Arizona Cardinals four and seven, on CBS with Kevin Harland and Trent Green. The Chargers opened to two and

app point favorite. They're favored by three. Most of the money on Arizona in this game, mostly cloudy degrees in the Greater Phoenix area at State Farm Stadium in Glendale. Feel the fear, the d the Dale, the Glendale l A five and oh against the spread on the road this season. The only team undefeated on the road against the spread this year. They've been wonderful in that spot, but most of those games they've been an underdog. Cliff Kingsbury typically a great play as an underdog with Arizona,

but lost last week. And I'm gonna take the Chargers here. I'll late the three points. I know that alligator arms Kyler Murray's coming act. It won't matter. The Cardinals, They've got a half. The team has quit on Kingsbury. This team is just I don't know what's gonna snap matters. They just look lack of dais ago. They took plays off against the Niners. It's a frat house set up. You've got no discipline. Arizona's got a bye week next week, so you've got some of the guys looking ahead to

their vacation in Cancoon. The Chargers have been heartbreak heroes, Justin Herbert putting up points. I was at the game last week. We'll talk more about that tomorrow on the podcast. But I was at the Charger game with the Chiefs. Good offense, able to move the ball. They've gotten some guys back, but they've got to get cooking here and win a few games in a road to get back

in that thick thickness of the playoff race. I say they do take advantage of a weak spot in the schedule and add to the misery of the Cardinals Chargers the former San Diego Charge now l A Chargers six and Arizona seventeen. The final penny picks penny has gone heads band alright, so the penny going with the home team that would be Arizona. So we disagree on that game. So does seem like there's been a lot of disagreement here, which means one of us is gonna be really happy

and the other one will be really sad. Uh And well, I hope it's me. I hope I'm not sad one. Next up the l A Rams that Cansas City Kevin Burkhardt has the call with Greg Olsen on Fox. I'm assuming that the Fox executives wish they had not made this game such a big game, as it looked good going into the year, but not right now. The Rams three and seven, Chiefs eight and two Kansas City opened a ten point favorite. As we are doing this, we go through the numbers and wow, wow, wow, wow, the

Chiefs are a fifteen and a half point favorite. They have jumped across the fourteen point mark. Everyone thinks this is a free money game. Nine seven percent of the action on the chief sunny, mostly sunny, and temperatures in the forties at Arrowheads Stadium in the heart Land. Now this is another historic point spread. How far have things gone into the abyss for the l A. Rams. No reigning Super Bowl champion has ever been a fourteen point

underdog or worse, There have been double digit underdogs. The largest reigning champion to be an underdog the Philadelphia Eagles. They were thirteen and nine point underdogs, and also the Niners they were also thirteen and that point underdogs. Both those teams went the way of the underdog. They went out right. Last time the Rams were this big and underdog, they were the St. Louis Rams in So it has

gone to hell in a handbasket for the Rams. We knew they would not be as good this year, but man, old man, the ebb and flow has not been there at all. That being said, I'm still taking the Rams in this game. I can't lay over two touchdowns. Kansas City two and five as at least a four point favorite this season, so they have been good that spot. Sean McVeigh has run out of the secret sauce and

everyone's airing their grievances now around the Rams. This team reminds me of some of the Jeff Fisher teams from years ago. Bad to the bone, bad bad, bad bad bad bad the bone. Nevertheless, I'm gonna take the Rams. As I said Aaron Donald, all he has to do is make a couple of plays. Sack Patrick Mahomes spoiled some drives. Jalen Ramsey with a tipped interception. Matthew Stafford is out. John Wolford likely out. That means someone named Bryce Perkins. We're not sure who that is. He's getting

the opportunity of a lifetime here. Twenty five years old, undrafted out of Virginia, also played at Arizona State. He's attempted eleven career passes and now it looks like he'll be starting for a reigning Super Bowl champion. Rams also got rid of Darrell Henderson, got rid of some of their other players. One of the linebackers they got rid of, so they got cam Akers and someone named Kyraen Williams in the backfield. Man, is this a big mismatch? We

we hope that Patrick Mahomes oversleep. But the change. The Chiefs are also dinged up here, and so the right side is the Rams betting double digit dogs. We talked about this all the time on Benny versus the Penny, but betting on double digit underdogs is a profitable strategy and betting the other way will chew you up. So the only way I would bet this game would be to take the points. I would not lay the points, and I'm I'm gonna need some divine intervention here, Alex

and the penny. But I'll take the l A Rams plus the points Chiefs thirty and the l A Rams with a special teams touchdown and a defensive score seventeen. The final ben We're not going seven and nine. I'm not gonna settle for it. It's the tales, Ben, It's tales, alright, tales. It is so the l a Ram's the pick of the penny. We agree on that game. Next up, the

last game in the late afternoon television window. Then we'll get to the primetime games as the New Orleans Saints continue to run up the debt as they are spotty spotty, shall we say it's like a fuzzy picture. Saints are four and seven San Francisco six and four. It's on Fox with with Kevin Coogler and Mark steel is not by all accounts are back and that's why they're a nine and a half point favorite. They opened at seven and most everyone betting on the Niners in this game

at Levi's Stadium, but I'm not. I'm gonna take the Saints in this game. Saints have been a terrible team on the road this season. They're own for New Orleans on the road. But Kyle shanahan and has not been great as a favorite as a home favorite eight seventeen and two of at least at eight. As an eight point favorite, the Niners are four, seven and one now.

He was wearing a smile last week in Mexico in Mexico City, as the forty Niners were big favorites, and they didn't have to put a lot of work in because the Cardinals blow and they were able to have their beautiful blowout win, and the Niners are a beauty pageant winner.
