The Fifth Hour: BENNY VS. THE PENNY (WEEK 11)

We'll tell you who's in here in a second. But this is not like the other Fifth Hour, said, you know, it's our Friday show, and it's a big NFL weekend ahead, And so that means Benny versus the petty welcome players. You're welcome, are you? It's time now, penny versus the penny. Alright, the big open right there. So that was the big highly produced open and in for Danny g all weekend long. We told you a big name. We said we were going to get the biggest name possible, a star. The

fs are insider. I mean, how lucky are we to have this guy? He's a Vegan Alex Tysher, also known affectionately as Alex the Vegan, who's the voice of the Penny. And it's good to have you Alex here, as you will be your first maiden voyage as the face of the Penny. Bennet's an honor. But right now, getting a phone call from my insiders at FSR. Well, yes, they're right behind you. I think right now that is amazing. They have not well we'll talk about that in another episode. Of the fact that roaches have lived, well not they're not living, but they haven't degraded. It's a fascinating thing. Yeah,

I think they're on the same thing. The McDonald's French fries are ben It lives. It lives up to the legend of the cockroach surviving a nuclear event, which I heard is is not true. But I don't know. let's have some fun, dude, Let's do this. So it's it's Benny versus the quarter now, not Benny versus the penny. All right, well we'll get it, all right, So here we go. Let's get started. In the first game, Carolina and Baltimore on Fox with Kevin Coogler and Mark Sanchez, the guy from the butt fumble on the call and Carolina three and seven Baltimore six and three. The Ravens opened a third teen point favorite. They're favored by twelve right now. Most of the money is on Baltimore Sunny

forties a kickoff at MMT Bank Stadium the Ravens. You look at some of the numbers on this game, Baltimore eight and two against the spread as double digit favorites with Lamar Jackson as the starter. But overall in the NFL this year, double digit underdogs since Week seven or six and one and have a winning record. And I want to take the Carolina Panthers. Now, I can't tell you I love Baker Mayfield. I don't. I don't. That's a downgrade from p J. Walker, which is shocking in itself.

Mayfield was the NFL's fifth worst quarterback when he last played. That fun fact almost caused me to take the Ravens and lay the massive point spread, but I simply cannot do it. Part of my DNA as a gamer gambler as I've been doing this is I I cannot. I very rarely will I lay more than a touchdown and this is there's almost two touchdown is in this game.

So how can Carolina keep this game close? Well, the way I would approach it Deante Foreman, who has been wonderful the last month at running back Manna from Heaven. He's got to keep that going. Obviously, long time consuming drive, short, high percentage passes underneath where Baker can't fff it up. Couple of fumbles by Lamar Jackson or interceptions or some kind of turnovers by the Ravens. It's not that complex

to keep a game like this close. And the Panthers also could play Sam Donald, which is not really that big a deal at all, but Baltimore has not been a great home team. They're owing three against the spread at home as a favorite this season, and Lamar Jackson, in his career at home as a favorite has a losing record these six games under five against the spread, not straight up, but against the spread. Ravens thirty one, Panthers twenty the final, and a penny or Carter or

whatever picks salesman. The penny goes tales, alright, the penny going tales. So that means the road team as home team heads and road team tales because you're sitting here behind on the road. So the penny picking the Carolina Panthers in that game. Next up here we go Cleveland at Buffalo, the Browns three and six, the Bills six and three on CBS with Andrew Catalan and James lofton. The Bills opened up an eight and a half point favorite. The line has stayed the same most of the money

on the Bills. But a big change, a big change, And we would not have known this if we had recorded the the benny versus the penny at the normal time. But the big change here the snow, the blizzard. Let us know, let us know, let us know. We're so excited to watch this game at High March Stadium in Buffalo because of the blizzard this weekend. But no, the lawyers have gotten involved in The NFL has relocated the

particular game out of western New York. The Bills Mafia will have to travel across the Upper Midwest there to d Detroit, Michigan. The game moved to Ford Field. I always love this one. Tysher out of an abundance of caution, which you can say about literally anything in life. You can do anything you want. Am I correct? Yes? We heard that a lot during the pandemic, didn't We had about can't you can't eat a steak at a restaurant?

You can't. You can't you know, talk to your friends because it's in a you know, it's like, come on, can't see grandma, Ben, Yeah, grandma's ninety years old, but you can't see grandma out of an abundance anyway, all right, So that's the games have moved to Detroit. Some of the numbers on this game, Cleveland. You look at Kevin STEFFANTSI seven and one against the spread as an underdog

of at least three and a half points. His largest mark as an underdog the Cleveland coach eight points in the Division no playoff game at Kansas City, which Cleveland did cover in that game in Buffalo, oh and three against the spread their last three games with back to back upset losses as at least a six and a point favorite. Now check this out. Only two teams in the Super Bowl era have lost three straight games, all

as at least a six and a point favorite. Uh. And that goes back to New Orleans and O two twenty years ago. Miami almost thirty years ago did it, and Buffalo they've been favored in every game this year. Anyway, get to the point, please, I want to take the brows now. Originally, when I handicapped this game, I was expecting blizzard like conditions with multiple feet of snow on the ground and all that. But I still don't trust the Bills. Josh Allen has been turning the ball over.

He's got two turnovers per game each week. The schedules all messed up, uh, changing last minute changes. We'll see which team adjust the better. But I like the Cleveland running game. We saw the Vikings have success on the ground last week, and you imagine that Cleveland's gonna mimic that it's a copycat league. We always hear that. With Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt premium running backs there. The Bills run defenses ranked twentieth, so that very good. You're

mixing a couple of interceptions here. Uh, And it's just the kids that the Bills don't really run the ball. They don't even try to run the ball that much. So I expect this to be a low scoring game, even though it's now been moved to Detroit. I'll take the Bills twenty and the Browns thirteen the final and the Penny Pecks tails again. Man, all right, so that would be the Cleveland Browns there, the road team. So we've agreed all this handicapping. We're agreeing. What's going on?

All right? Next up Philadelphia eight and one at Indianapolis four five and one is on CBS with Iron Eagle and Charles Davis. They have the call. The Eagles opened up a ten a ten point favorite. They are six and a half point road favor Rits seventy five degrees are but inside Lucas Oil Stadium, but seventy of the money on the Eagles. That's a big number, Sonny, and in the twenties outside the Dome Stadium in Indianapolis, and

I'm gonna take the Colts in this game. Jalen Hurts and the Birds served up a bag of slop in the Monday night football clunker against Washington. Now they have a chance to get the taste out of their mouth right away, right t V t V hot teg Artist Jeff Saturday and Indy on the other side. But the reason, the many reason I'm going with the horse shoes is

the injury starting to pile up for Philadelphia. They'll be without tight end Dallas Goddard, bad shoulder, He's out, and that has been the safety blanket for Jalen Hurts, who has not been a good play on the road. Hurts is five and ten for Gamblers against the spread in his career on the road, two and six as a road favorite this season. The Eagles, even with that great record at eight and one, are one in three against the spread. So I know that tells you what has happened,

not what's going to happen. But with God it out, some other injuries in the secondary and whatnot defensive front, it's not a good set up on this short week for the Eagles and the Colts. You look at that ability to run the ball with Jonathan Taylor. They got their mojo back last week against the Raiders, who are not particularly good. But nevertheless, I'm gonna take the Colts here to win the game. Eagles will be on a two game losing streak. Eagles go down. Colts twenty six,

Eagles twenty three. The final and the penny picks, Ben, You'll never believe this tails again? Is that right? So? Three for three on? Are you sure it's not a two? It's like the tails on. There is a there is a just doesn't use its heads, alright, So the road team three for three on the penny picks. By the way, Jeff Saturday trying to be the eighth coach in the Super Bowl Era to win each of his first two games,

both as an underdog. No coach none in the Super Bowl era has won each of the first two games as at least a four point dog. So, for whatever that's worth, Saturday has a chance to do it. Next up Washington five and five at Houston one, seven and one. It's on Fox and a member of the Fox Sports Radio Alumni Association, Chris Myers has the call with Robert Smith. The Commanders opened up a two and a half point

road favorite. They are favorite by three, and everyone thinks now the Commanders are just gonna roll the rest of their games here, certainly this week over of the Handle in favor of Washington. It is a dome at NRG Stadium in Houston, temperatures in the in the forties in the greater Houston area at kickoff, not that that will

affect the game in a way. And the Washington football team, formerly known as the Redskins, two and eight their last ten games on the road versus teams that suck, bad teams with a winning percentage similar to Houston, and the Texans have been a good dog both at home and wherever they play. With Davis Mills last fifteen games, they have a winning record. I'm gonna take Houston in this game, and I'm betting a mental angle to this, So bear with me. The Commanders. They get their signature win on

Monday Night, they beat a the Big Bad Eagles. Now they have to go back to reality, back to the duldrums of the NFL's they play. They went from the best team, the top team, the Eagles. Now they play the worst team in the Texans and while Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson were great running the ball, now they go against the last ranked run defense. This is so easy. Show up Pasco, collect two hundred dollars and a win, but I expect a flat forms. They've been smelling themselves

all week. Everyone's on the television has been kissing their ass. The internet, Oh you're so good. Wait now the the Taylor Heinecke mistake. I would start Heineke. He's gonna continue to start here, but he has been mistake prone. The Eagles had a couple of interceptions, a couple of turnovers there they blew last week. So I'm gonna ride the running game. Damian Pierce the only really good player that Texans have, and the Texas have have won the statueet

in most of these games. They've just made the big boo boo, the big whoopsie to cost them the gambling money in some of these recent losses. But I'm gonna take them to hang around. This is gonna be a grinded out kind of game. Washington will win the game twenty to nineteen over the Texans, but because of the point spread, the Texans will win the money, and that penny picks Ben. We have our first heads of the nights, all right, So the penny's picking the Texans. So there

you are, right, penny picking the Texans on that. Next up, the New York Jets at New England Jets six and three, New England five and four. It's on CBS with Kevin Harlan and Trent Green. And the Patriots opened a four and a half point favorite, their favorite by three and a half as most everyone betting on the Patriots on this particular day, Sonny in the forties in the Commonwealth at Gillette Stadium, and I'm gonna take the Patriots in

this game. I'm going with the public, which is always dangerous. I like to go against the public. But Bill Belichick has been an absolute ninja. He hasn't lost his superpower since Tom Brady left. When it comes to playing the Jets and the mind games that he's gonna play with Zach Wilson. Zach Wilson will be like play Doh in his hand, and Belichick can shape this anyway. He wants Wilson oh in three with two touchdowns, seven interceptions against

Bill Belichick's defense in his career. They just played a couple of weeks ago, and Zach Wilson was terrible. Now, the concern here is that for the Patriots, Mac Jones blows and he's the obviously the guy starting for New England in this game. So the quarterback matchup seems to be washed. Whatever team can hide the quarterback more efficiently

will win the game. I'm betting on that, being the Patriots were counting on Romandre Stevenson and the running game mixed with the past defense to get the job done. Patriots are eight and two against the spread their last ten against the Jets with Belichick, and even though mac Jones has not been statistically very good at all at home, the Patriots are five and two against the spread their last seven games, and so there there are some positives there for the Patriots. Pat Pats will win the game.

Patriots seven and the Jets twenty one, And the Penny picks heads again Ben alright, so the Penny going with the Patriots piggybacking my work there in this game. Next up Detroit the Lions at three and six at the New York Giants seven and two. It's on Fox. Kevin Burkhardt and greg Olsen have a call. That's the A team for Fox. The Giants opened a four point favorite. They are favored by three and a lean in favor of the Giants. Here about six of the money on

the Giants. That forecast calls for light rain in New Jersey, temperatures in the forties. It's a beautiful chamber of commerce kind of day in New Jersey there at MetLife Stadium. And I'm gonna take the Lions in this game. The Giants are seven and two, as we said, but they're flimsy. NFL's worst. Texans out gained them last week. They struggled to get by the Titans and Panthers earlier this season. Meanwhile,

the Lions, they're not very good. They're three and six, but they have one two straight and I love the Lion defense, which is statistically terrible. But Aidan Hutchinson up front, They've gotten guys back Detroit and they should be able to mess up Sequon Barkley in that running game and also get to Danny Dimes or White Vic or whatever they're calling them there, uh, light Chocolate, whatever his nickname is.

But the the interior of the Detroit defense will cause some heartache and the Lions should be able to move the ball. That combo of aman ras St Brown, the white out DeAndre Swift, that they're those guys are playmakers. I think the Lions actually win this game. Everyone's been what's wrong with the Giants? I can't believe they lost the Lions. The Lions will be four and six, Lions twenty four, Giants twenty three. The final and the penny pick.

The penny is going tales Ben all right, going to so the penny going with the Detroit Lions in that particular game. Dan Campbell a winning record over the last twenty six games. He's seven games above five hundred against the spread. And Jared Goff, the much maligned former Ram quarterback, last ten games, six games over five four gamblers against the spread. Alright, Moving on l I am is it three and six in New Orleans? Three and seven? It's

on Fox A friend of our overnight show. Kenny Albert and Jonathan Vilma have the call, as they will try to upsell this game. The Saints favorite Rams open to one point, Favorite Stants for favorite by four, and the handle on this it's as high as I've ever seen. It's over nine of the money is on New Orleans at the super Dome, temperatures in the fifties outside in the Bayou. And you look at some of the numbers here, the Rams two and eight against the spread their last

ten games on non grass fields. Sean McVeigh overall last fifteen games, six games under five. But I'm a glutton for punishment. I doubt play nice in the sandbox. I'm gonna take the Rams in this game. And this is a game I've gone back and forth on the main reason I'm betting on the Rams, and again it is because I'm betting against the Saints. I just can't bet on Dennis Allen and I cannot trust Andy Dalton. The Rams have the top unit in this game. They have

the top defense. The Saints are completely ravaged by injuries, and so are the Rams. Cooper Cups not playing in this game, and say, how are the Rams possibly going to generate offense? Matthew Stafford's coming back from concussion protocol and he hasn't been good. And the Rams you look at us like if no one's been any good moving

the ball. The Rams might not get a first down in this game, but they'll figure out a way and and the great equalizers the turnover and the Rams defense should be able to pick off Andy Dalton one or two times. This is going to be in terrific before it could be like a biblically bad offensive game. Dennis Allen three and seven against the spread in his career as a favorite, and that includes a losing record with the Saints New Orleans one and four against the spread

their last five games. And I want to take the Rams Rams thirteen Saints twelve the final, and the penny picking the penny is going tales Ben alright, So the penny picking the Rams in that game as well. Next up Chicago, Sweet Home Chicago on the road, three and seven. The Bears versus Atlanta four and six. It's on Fox. Joe Davis and Darryl Moose Johnston have the call. The

Falcons opened a four point favorite. They're still favored by four slight lean on the money to Chicago, although it's not overwhelming, sunny temperatures in the forties at the Georgia Dole Home whatever they're calling it now. Mercedes Benz doome uh in Atlanta, and I'm gonna take the Bears in this game. Now, the Bears have been bad at the basics blocking and tackling, but so have the Atlanta Falcons, and Justin Fields has been a one man band. He's

been styling and profiling the last month. Fields last three weeks has seven touchdown passes, one interception. You're mixing the ten yards per carry the four rushing touchdowns. He's got eleven touchdowns and one interception the last three weeks. He's

been great. The Bears defense, though, has been equally terrible. Regardless, uh, even though Chicago hasn't won the game, these games have all been high scoring, back and forth games in Atlanta is so bad they're owing four against the spread their last four. They started the year six and oh against the number. Atlanta is one and four as a home favorite under their head coach Arthur Smith. And I just see this going back and forth, act and forth, and

because of that, we're getting over a field goal. The Falcons eventually will come apart at the seams here. Chicago's defense is weak sauce, so expect this to be another arcade at the midway type game. End up Bears. The Chicago Bears get in the wind column Bears thirty one and the Falcons thirty in that fun House of Mirrors and the penny picks. The penny is going heads Big Ben. Alright, the penny is going ahead, So Penny taking the Atlanta Falcons.

A disagreement in that game. Moving to the late television window. We're doing good on timing, by the way, Alex, We're doing very good on sensational Ben. Alex has places to go and things to do. So Las Vegas two and seven, Denver three and six, it's on Fox with Adam Aman and Mark slay Rick. The Broncos opened a two and a half point favor They're still favored by two and a half in this game, and most of the money is on the Broncos at Empower Field at Mile High.

That is a great outdoors. I know you're in awe. They're actually playing football in the great outdoors in cold weather, sunny and temperatures in the thirties at kickoff. It's on like Donkey Kong and I'm gonna take the Raiders in this game, even though the Raiders are owing three their last three games here. Josh McDaniels has been terrible in his NFL career. After that six and oh start for gamblers. He's ten and twenty one his last thirty one games.

But this matchup is Russell Wilson, who's the snail versus Derek Carr, the three toed sloth. Neither one of these teams can score much at all. The Raiders and Broncos over the last month are both averaging thirteen point three points per game. P you what stinks? Man? Is that bad boy? They both blow Denver's got the elite defense that said, we are going with the wretched Raiders, and I'll tell you why everyone thinks this is free money. All you have to do is bet on the Broncos

and you win. Blah blah blah blah blah. So we're going against the public. We're going with the wise guys. And Derek Carr be much maligned Derek Carr, who stinks he's Jekyll and Hide, but he's mostly been Jekyl and in this game the one team. It's like two or three teams, but this is one of the teams that Car has not had problems with. He has played very

well against le Broncos. That's his happy place. In fact, the Raiders are nine and one against the spread with Derek Carr and others in their last ten meetings against the Broncos, doesn't matter where. They play, five and all against the spread as an underdog in that span, and Russell Wilson so wonky, so messed up. You're getting a couple of points, not a ton, not a ton here. But the Raiders also beat the Broncos earlier this year.

The the juries are piling up, but again, get to the point here, as I stare down the penny, I am taking a right and the Raids, the Raiders are gonna win the game, out right. Raiders twenty seven, Broncos six, and my man Alex the face of the penny slash quarter this week, Ben actually did call somebody got a penny in here for this too? Ben? It is tales tales, yes, all right, So that the penny shadowing me. I noticed that the pen, but I didn't even give the record.

I should probably give the records here at some point. Overall, we'll get to that in a minute before we get to the Sunday night game, which is in a few all right. Next up Dallas six and three at Minnesota eight and one. It's on CBS. Now, this is the a game with Jim nance Antonio Romo the Cowboys. This game open to pick and the Cowboys are a one point favorite. Dallas not getting the money. It's surprisingly the Usually the Cowboys always have the majority of the money.

The Vikings, though, getting the money, and I have a theory on why that is now Sonny and nineteen degrees in Minnesota, but this is a dome at US Bank Stadium, so that does not matter. I'm gonna take the Cowboys here all right now. I don't normally do that, but I'm taking the Cowboys this week. Dallas is coming off the heartbreaking loss to Green Bay in overtime, which they blew. The Vikings were given a gift in Buffalo. Josh Allen gave the game to them on a silver platter, and

they took it. Good for them. The Vikings won their Super Bowl. They legitimized the record beating the Bills last week. But normally when you win your Super Bowl, you don't have to come back and play another game right away. And I expect them to come crashing back down to Earth a Bender type situation, but not Aaron Bender, my

old friend in radio. These are both flawed teams. However, the Cowboys I actually trust them more in this in this game because of their defense and the fact that they'll be able to get to Kirk Cousins that Dallas pressure and Kirk Cousins statistically has been dreadful. That's his kryptonite when pressured, and so I don't expect that too many turnovers from the Cowboys. This will be a back and forth game, but in the end, I love the Cowboys.

Dallas thirty on and the Vikings seven the final Bennet's Tales again, all right, So man, this is an odd situation. So the tails again. So that means you sit on your butt when you travel. So Dallas. Keep notes on this, but Dallas is the pick, all right. Next up, Cincinnati five and four at Pittsburgh three and six on CBS. Greg Gumbel, who Ate Sports Radio, and Adam arch Aletta have the call. The Bengals old up in a six

point favorite. They're favorite by four as this game being played at the stadium formerly known as Heinz Field, and I'm gonna take the Steelers in this game. I love me some Steelers. With t J. Watt back in the line of Pittsburgh is a different team with what in the lineup up front. He is a disruptor for that Bengal offense. The Bengals have the worst offensive line this side is Sheboygan, and they have allowed thirty two sacks, tied for the most of the NFL. Since he is

dinged up without Jamaar Chase, the playmaker wide receivers. Several starting defensive backs and defensive tackles also on the injury list. And I don't love Kenny Pickett, but he should play well this game. With all those injuries in Cincinnati, Deonte Johnson, George Pickens, the passing games should get going here. But the main reason I like Pittsburgh is the the defense

with t J. Watt. And you're getting Pittsburgh at home as a dog, and you look at the numbers here, Mike Tomlin very good at home as a dog, Pittsburgh very successful in that situation. I don't know that tells you what has happened, not what's going to happen. But I will take the Steelers twenty six and the Bengals twenty three the final and the penny the penny went tails, Ben, Alright, the penny goes tails against the penny. Are you sure the penny just it's it's all tales all the time.

It seems to beat today. All right, well that is a Cincinnati pick. Next up, let's get to the season log here and then we'll get to the Sunday night in the Monday night game, and we'll put the baby to bed, as we like to say. So back in week ten, I should have done this earlier. Bad job by me. But back in week ten, how did I do versus the penny? I went eight and six against the spread, which is not great. I should do better than that, But that's a winning record. Eight and six

against the spread. That's a five seventy one winning percentage. Now, to beat the penny overall, you have to have a five four winning percentage. You have to win fifty two point four percent of your bets because of the way the gambling is with the veg and all that, so you have to win fifty at least over fifty two percent of your bets fifty two point four to make money. So I was in that safe zone, but not by a lot. The penny went five and nine last week,

a three fifty seven winning percentage. So overall, and I know Roscoe the Parrot with David in Florida, and Robin Vegas and Mike and all you other guys that are keeping track. You contact me on social media and email every week to tell me if if these numbers are right or not. But the overall total on the scoreboard, and I'm sure this will end at some point. But my record, my record every game against the spread, I

am eighty eight fifty seven and five. That's a six oh seven winning percentage through ten weeks of the season. The penny the worst the penny has ever been. I've been doing this for probably fifteen years. Over fifteen years and the penny one and three under five hundred a four sixty winning percentage for the penny. So we've built up a little equity. Will it all come crashing down here in Week eleven? Stay tuned dot dot dot. But back to the games we go, tysher and Sunday Night football.

I may actually be at this game. What well, maybe I've not. I've not heard yet whether or not I'm allowed in or not by the Chargers, so I don't know. But if if they tell me I'm allowed, I'll make a bee line for the stadium. Now, Kansas City seven and two at the Chargers five and four on and be See the Peacock with Mike Tariko and Chris Collinsworth. The Chiefs open a five and at point favorite. There

a six point favorite in this game. Slight lean on the money to the Chargers, and I'm gonna go with the slight lean of the money. Sixty four degrees. That kick off at so Fi Stadium, which is not a dome, even though it's got a roof on it, not a dome because it's open on both sides. Things that make you go, things that make you go. But I'm taking the charges. The Charger's depth chart is beaten and broken,

but we trust Justin Herbert to keep it close. He's played some of the best ball in his career against the Chiefs. Herbert three and one against the spread against Kansas City. This is the second largest home underdog situation for Herbert in his career. And now listen, Patrick homes thirteen and no outright in road Divisional games nine and four against the spread. There's a lot of numbers that

say Kansas City, Kansas City. But I loved getting this many points, getting almost a touchdown, and I'm gonna ride with the Chargers to hang around and blow the game lead that late. That's normally how these things work out for the Chargers. They can hang around for three quarters and then things go haywire in the fourth quarter. Chiefs seven and the Chargers twenty three. Ben, I don't know how I feel about representing the penny after you're telling

me it's a record right now. That's not very reassuring. But it went tails, Ben, it went tails, all right, So tails it is. Next up for us? Next up for us, the last game, last game of Benny versus the pain. We're making record time, by the way, dutiful record time on Benny versus the Penny. So the next game, San Francisco slash Santa Clara versus Arizona in Mexico KOs City. The forty Niners five and four, the Cardinals four and six.

It's on ABC with Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. They have the call and the forty Niners open and five and a half point favorite. The Niners are favored by eight in this game and most of the money almost eight is on the side of the forty Niners.
