What's up, party people? Straight Fire with McIntyre. Yes, it's Wednesday, February third, super Bowl in chin Closure. It feels like it's taken forever to get here. We uh, we got, we got until Sunday. We will get another super Bowl best bet at the end of this podcast, asked if

you missed yesterday's pod. It's one I've already fired on today's bet that I'm giving out. I've already fired on that one. This one's a bit of a long shot, but it's a fun one. Guys are gonna love this

super Bowl prop bet. Um, you know, I wanted to start the podcast today with kind of a bit of a hot take that I don't know if it's gonna go over well, But I'm texting with Rob g you know, and he's got these ideas and he says stuff, and um, I said, listen, I'm just gonna go here, and I'm gonna put it out there because I firmly believe it. I spent probably on Tuesday a good ninety minutes breaking this down, and it has to do with Pat Mahomes

and all time quarterbacks. And we're going to get to that shortly, but you're gonna have to wait for ninety seconds because I've got to talk about this story that appeared in the Las Vegas Journal Review late on Tuesday. I don't know if you saw it, the chatter that Derek Carr could be shocked by the Raiders. They in turn flip him for two first round picks, and then they package that with their own first round and their next first round pick, and they say, hey, Houston, here's

four first round picks. Give us to Shawn Watson. And I read this, and you know that mind blowing emoji where the head is exploding, I'm like, whoa hold on what? Step at a time, Derek Carr is suddenly worth two first round picks on what planet? Like? Derek Carr's a good quarterback. He was excellent last year, no doubt about it. He was phenomenal. It's got one of the best tight ends in the league. Very good running black back and

elite offensive line. Um, you know Henry Ruggs emerging. Uh. I like the Raiders and I like Derek Carr, but two first round picks. And so what's interesting is then Calherd calls me after I tweet about this on Tuesday and he's like, you know, I think there's something to this, Derek Carr, Um, you trade and getting Watson to the Vegas And I'm like, well, here's what I don't get. What team is giving up two first round picks for Car?

And then I'm gonna ask you this. If you are Vegas and you somehow get two first round picks for Car and you go to Houston and say, here's four first give me Watson, I need to say time out. Let me look at those first round picks because if they ain't in the top ten, what are we doing here? Because I'm telling you guys right now, you can go look at the history if you go ahead and package

let's say twelve, seventeen, twenty one, and seven. I'm just throwing out four numbers that are not in the top ten because I don't know anybody in the top ten who's giving that up for Derek Carr. Sorry, if I'm being told Sam Donald is maybe worth a two, and yes, Cars better than Donald, it's quite a leap to say Derek Cars wars two two first round picks. It's quite elae. Derek Carr is not in the same class as Matt Stafford. No, and remember the Golf Stafford deal was unique because of

the golf contract. That's why there were so many first round picks involved. But Derek Carr is not worth two first. I'm sorry. And you know, going to Houston with twelve, seventeen, one, and twenty seven or whatever, I don't know that you're gonna get a slam dunk quarterback at any of those positions. This is why the Jets and the Dolphins are in

the driver's seat. The Jets at two, you say, here you go, you're not getting Trevor Lawrence, but you've got your pick of the Litterally, you like Justin Fields, you like Zack Wilson. Now you don't like any of those guys. Then you get the best defensive player on the board, or you get the best left tackle to build around.

Although I know they have Lara b. Tunsil Um. You don't want to draft a right Tack or then you trade two to somebody who wants who really Covets Fields or Zack Wilson or out of that nobody wants Mac Jones ATWO. But I'm saying if Houston is so far away they have no defensive players, they then can have room to negotiate with the number two pick. But you don't have a lot if you've got four first round picks in the next two years that aren't in the top ten, none of them are. It just there's a lot.

I'm not buying that. I'm not buying Derek Carr's first worth two first round picks, and um, I personally don't think Houston bites. I'm looking at the ten best quarterbacks of the modern era. Okay, I'm not. I'm sorry, I'm not going back to bart Star. Okay, Johnny Uniteds phenomenal career, amazing player. I'm not I'm not going back to the nineteen fifties. Okay, I'm just not doing that. Johnny United is awesome quarterback, like nineteen sixty four. Are we going there? Really? Otto Graham? Is that what you want to hear? Otto grahams one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL history, like in his prime, in

his time, he was amazing. But uh, yeah, I'm not putting those guys in the modern era. I mean, United kind of skirts it because he he won in sixty four and sixty seven. Um, it really depends where you want to make the cut off for the modern era. UM. A lot of people like to say nineteen seventy, after the AFL and NFL merged. Uh. Some people like to say when the Super Bowl era started in sixty six,

in which case United is one and sixty seven. But for the purposes of this discussion, I'm calling the modern era after the league's merged in Okay. My argument is, if Patrick Mahomes wins the Super Bowl on Sunday, Patrick Mahomes in three seasons as a starter at the age of will have two Super Bowl rings, an m v P Award, and perhaps two Super Bowl MVP Awards. And I said to Rob G, I said, if Pat Mahomes has done that much after three seasons, he is already

a top ten quarterback in the NFL. And Rob G gives me that, you know, waiting to reply like dot dot dot, and he's waiting. He's waiting, and he's like, I like it. And folks, this is not that difficult. I made the list. There's the top ten quarterbacks in the modern era of the NFL. And seriously, with a victory in the Super Bowl, Patrick Mahomes will crack the top ten. Now the guy he's gonna boot out. You're not gonna want to hear. But I'm gonna go through

the top ten. And this is not that difficult. This is pretty easy. Okay, let's begin. Number one Tom Brady. Nothing needs to be said. He is the greatest quarterback in NFL history, bar none. Next number two, Joe Montana. I don't think I'm gonna get any pushback, you know, four and oh. In the Super Bowls three Super Bowl m v p s, the guy went back to back regular season NFL MVP awards. Montana was the goat until Brady passed him. This is where it gets interesting. Okay,

number three, A few guys can make the case. I'm going with Peyton Manning. I know he only has two Super Bowl rings. The guy was unbelievable. Okay, you can't tell the story of the NFL modern era without Peyton Manning very high up in the story. It was basically Manning and Brady dominating the NFL for I don't know, fifteen ish years. Peyton Manning four m v P Awards. I know the second Super Bowl with Denver whatever. He is a fossil in the defense carried him and he

was terrible. But a crazy stat I found researching this. Peyton Manning is one of two quarterbacks in NFL history with two hundred postseason and regular season wins combined. And I know, quarterback ways, Jason, what a dumb stat. We're gonna get to quarterback wins. I don't like it as a stat. It does kind of enter the discussion a little bit when you look big picture and can get a larger than sample size than Lamar Jackson hasn't one but one playoff game. He's not any good. Like that's

a tiny sample size. Okay. Peyton Manning in his career in the postseason fourteen and thirteen great quarterback. He did lose three early in his career when this when they were not very good. But I do believe it matters. And this goes back to Matt Stafford when we talked about it, like Stafford's owen three in the playoffs always states you can't want a big game. Okay, let's dive a little bit deeper. Okay, Matt Stafford owen three in

the playoffs. Okay, he was an underdog of six and a half or more in all three games, and he was on the road in all three games. So let's not act like he should have won those games. Okay. I know you've ultimately got to pull an upset or two, you know, if you want to be great, obviously that matters. But Peyton Manning fourteen and thirteen career postseason record, I can't put him ahead of Joe Montana. I'm sorry. So

Tom Brady won Joe Montana to Peyton Manning three. Number four. Again, this can be a spirited debate for my scoring purposes. It's John Elway, um number four quarterback of all time. You guys know that UM old school. I think it

was in the nineteen eighties, those strongman competitions. They were on ESPN where you would have this hulking refrigerator size man tie a rope around his waist and he would try to pull like an eighteen wheeler and it would be like, who can tug an eighteen wheeler across the finish line? To me, John Elway did that with the Denver Broncos. He basically put the entire or a franchise on his back and dragged it to five Super Bowls. Okay, I know, he got just absolutely thrashed the first few

times he was in the Super Bowl. Started owing three a couple of really ugly losses in there, but he didn't have a good team. But John Away, Holy cow, this guy was phenomenal. I mean, for me, I have him as the fourth best quarterback in modern NFL history.

I don't know how much pushback there's gonna be. I'm actually kind of curious, um if people hate that, because you know, the next two guys have a strong case, and you know, John Elway only won one m v P Award in UM, but this is a guy who was essentially he was right there with Joe Montana as the best quarterback in the eighties. I know there's another guy. We're gonna get to him. Um, but I have John Elway as number four. He did win two Super Bowls

at the end of his career. And yes, I can hear you saying, yeah, he didn't win until he got to Roll Davis. I'm aware of that. I've said that myself. John Elway. Fourth best quarterback modern NFL history. Number five Brett Farve and um, you know, three m v P Awards in a row. I mean, Brett Farve in the nineties was off the charts and he I believe set the record for starting three and one straight games just

a marathon. Man. I'm impressed. Now you're you're not that impressed when you hear he only won one ring given all those seasons and there were some playoff let down thirteen and eleven in the playoffs. Um, but you also have to factor in Brett Farve also played in the Peyton Brady era, and you know it's tough to win when you're up against dynasties like that. Brett Farve also, by the way, was in the league when the Dallas Cowboys dynasty happened, so kind of some unlucky stuff there.

But you can't take that away, Brett Farve. How many guys have played quarterback in the NFL in the modern era. I'm just gonna toss out a number. Five, five started twenty more games. I don't. I'm just tossing out a number to say, Brett Farve is the fifth is not a slight in any way, shape or form. So to recap Brady one, Montana to Payton three, l Way four, Far five, Steve Young number six. This one probably will make some people upset because he was only the starter

for seven years. Given he sat behind Montana in seven years as a starter, the dude won three Super Bowls. And yes he was handed a dynasty um from Montana and Steve Young want two m v p s. He's at Jerry Rice and such a loaded team. I get all that, but you still gotta deliver. You know, you've gotta win the games. And Steve Young was a great quarterback, a running quarterback ahead of his time. By the way, you will see none of the other guys. I mean,

l Way was a scrambler, but Steve Young was a runner. Um. You'll know far Of again another scrambler. Young really a running quarterback. I mean that run against the Vikings is still I can still remember sitting on my couch, my jaw dropping as a young guy like who Steve Young, Oh my god, this guy's ridiculous. Steve Young sixth greatest quarterback in the NFL modern era, number seven. I have Aaron Rodgers here. He's got three m VP Awards, guys, and I'm counting this year's. By the way, um, he

has only one ring. He is only eleven nine, eleven and nine in the playoffs. There is sort of a John Elway esque field to Aaron Rodgers. And I know I have a big time Packers buddy who used to work for me at the Big Lead, and um, I'm curious as to if he thinks Aaron Rodgers just a little bit overrated, because you could argue Rogers is maybe top three most talented. This guy is just off the charts good. It is a little unfortunate that he has come up empty in the playoffs. I think he's lost

three NSC championship games. I remember Seattle, I obviously remember the last two back to back. Um, and you know, what can you do? It's not like Aaron Rodgers was the guy who dropped the on side kick against Seattle. You know, um, so I have hit him as the seventh best quarterback of the NFL modern era and number eight Drew Brees. I was stunned by this stat. Drew Brees has never won an NFL MVP. Work cannot even be true. How does Drew Brees never won an m

v P. Drew Brees great quarterback? Come on, um, he did win a Super Bowl ring and he's one of the most accurate pastors obviously in NFL history. Interesting career playoff record nine and nine. Yes, I know who you guys are thinking of when I bring up playoff records Mark Sanchez four and two. Obviously, so Drew Brees, number eight, number nine. I had Terry Bradshaw. This is the only guy going back to the seventies that I included on the list. Listen, guys, you win four Super bowls. Uh,

you went two Super Bowl m vps. You're a pretty damn good quarterback. And Terry Bradshaw was part of that dynasty in Pittsburgh in the seventies. No, I'm not saying this because I worked with him. Have never met Terry Bradshaw. I don't think on the lot um, I don't want to give away anything. I hope I don't get in trouble, but there may be a Fox Sports Digital Super Bowl watch party with Terry Bradshaw and Jason McIntyre in some

way shape or for him coming up. We'll see, we'll see Um obviously not just us, So Terry Bradshaw, number nine and number ten, the guy everybody's been waiting for. Dan Marino never won a Super Bowl. The only guy in the top ten to never win a Super Bowl. Put up monster numbers eight and ten in the playoffs, only one super Bowl trip. And my big build up to this is, Guys, if Patrick Mahomes beats Tom Brady and went to Super Bowl, you've got to put Pat Mahomes in the top ten and you have to remove

Dan Marino. And Dan Marino was a phenomenal quarterback. He had good receivers, he had a really good coach. Um one of the defenses left a little something to be desired. Um, you could argue about the lack of running game, but when you start getting that granular, it's almost like you're trying to make excuses. And I'm not for Dan Marino. He was a great, great quarterback, unlucky and then I think the only ring he won was an eighth fenter a pet detective. By the way, great movie showed it

to the kids. Let's just say they didn't totally understand the Finkle design horn thing. Um they're young. Um, but I do believe Patrick Mahomes will pass Dan Marino and enter the top ten NFL quarterbacks of all time if Patrick Mahomes wins a second Super Bowl at And I'm not gonna go Tony Romo and um say Mahomes can never catch Brady if he loses this. Um, I just want to remind you, guys, Patrick Mahomes is twenty five.

He's doing stuff that nobody could have imagined from a guy who was picked at the tenth position in the draft. And I don't want to hear Willie's Andy Reid. Um, this is gonna be painful to some Eagles fans. But what had Andy Reid won before Pat Mahomes. Andy bere was a great coach into a bunch of nfsy title games, went to a Super Bowl, the one where Donovan and Nabb vomited all over the field. Um. Andy, he was a very very good coach who could not get over

the hump. Pat Holmes put him over the hup, So I don't want to hear this. Pat Mahomes has a stack team, guys. I went on the walk, Remember, I got to walk a hike with our family and another one we wore masks. Just putting that out there, and my son was like with the other guy who's in fourth grade, they were like, wait, how did the Chiefs get Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelsey. I was like, you guys didn't know this. Tyreek Hell was like a fifth round draft pick and Kelsey was like a third round pick.

And they were like, oh, so it's not like Patrick Mahomes came to this ridiculously stacked team that's the greatest team in NFL history. This ain't Steve Young taking over from Montana. No disrespect to Alex Smith, who did go to the playoffs the year before. Patrick Mahomes took over as a starter, But Mahomes is what makes this team go. Okay, They're not loaded with incredible defensive Hall of famers. Yeah, Chris Jones is awesome and Honey Badger is really really good,

and Steve Spagnolo is a phenomenal defensive coach. But this idea that Mahomes is like in the perfect position. I mean, everybody has to be in a great position, don't they. I mean you could have said the same one Dan Marino went to Don Shula, right, I mean, hello, that's perfect. I mean, folks, I just named the top ten quarterbacks in NFL modern history. The Packers for the last like

twenty five years are represented on that list. I mean, listen, there's a lot of happenstance that's happened, but this idea that, oh, well, Holmes is on a sack team, Like I just I'll just ask you, guys, I don't maybe I missed it, but what had the Chiefs one before Patrick ma Holmes got there? I don't know. So for my money, Mahomes wins this. He cracked the top ten, and I'm not gonna lie, guys, like, there's a chance by the age

of thirty, he hadds another one another one after. I mean, I don't know what's stopping the Chiefs at this point short of off field issues two major stars obviously injuries. Um, you know, maybe the salary cap slows them down. They just paid Pat Malomes five million. But this guy, Mahomes, Guys, we we do. I don't know that I've ever seen anything like you know, a lot of these. Get Peyton Manning, you knew greatness was coming. Tom Brady, we did not

know that was coming. Nobody could have predicted that. Anybody who tells you that's lying. Um. Anybody who predicted far also lying. Remember he was drafted second round by the Atlanta Falcons. Okay, nobody thought Aaron Rodgers would be this good, falling to twenty in the draft. Elway was they can't miss prospect. We get that Joe Montana given back to his Notre Dame Day's phenomenal quarterback. Um, but you know this Patrick Mahomes stuff is ridiculous. It's just really crazy

what he's accomplished. Now. There is probably well, there's a couple of names. Troy Aikman was very close. UM. I have Roger Staubach as very very close. UM. A guy I need to give some more thought to is Russell Wilson. Um. You guys know, I'm a huge fan of Russell Wilson. He's got a Super Bowl, doesn't have an m v P. UM lost the Super Bowl by throwing a pick on the two yard line. Not totally his fault. But I don't know where Russell Wilson ends up on that list.

He's certainly top his numbers are continuing to grow, but by the end of his career, is you gonna sniff top ten? I will see, But for now that's my top ten and I'm sticking to it. Now I did see a plus four for Yes, I have bet this, UM, And I'll tell you why. I think this brings joy to every single kick and everyone in the room, whoever you're wherever you're watching outdoors hopefully, Um, everybody is going to get pumped for every kick. Usually you know it's oh that's got a touchdown, Great, let

me go the bathroom. No not. When you make this bet, you will be watching and rooting for the doink you're gonna And now I have looked at the wind a little bit right now they're calling for winds maybe, but it's still a little early in the week to think about that, UM, And there's really no research you can do on uh, you know, the kickers and hitting the uprights to the crossbar like it is a little bit long.

The lucky side Um, the rooting for a doink and the noise that it makes when it hits off the upright is cool. You guys have to admit that. Um. I think back to Justin Tucker, one of the greatest kickers in NFL history, arguably number one, hits the upright twice in that game against the Bills twice, Like, I mean, you know, that was cool. I love hearing the doint the thud. Now. I did not like hearing the doink slash thud when the Chicago Bears kicker lost it to

the Eagles a few years ago. I had Unfortunately, I was heavily invested in the Bears on that one. That really really hurt. Um. But in the Super Bowl, rooting for a doing come on, that's awesome. That's fun. So I will advocate put some pizza money on. I'm not saying, you know, take all your game stop winnings and rolling into will any field goal extra point hit the uprights a cross bar? But yes, at plus four, that's a

fun bet. And the way I look at it, the over under of fifty six and a half is calling for anywhere from six to seven touchdowns, maybe eight, couple of field goals anywhere in that range. So you're looking at possibly eight kicks to hit the upright or cross bar, and to me, that's just like fun. It just adds a level of excitement to every kick in the game.
