A missing girl. Suspicions of murder. the body never found. A prominent Rockingham County NC farmer, hanged for her murder in 1860.
A precedent-setting case in North Carolina law. It allowed the state to convict a person of murder without there being a corpus delicti better known as the body of the victim
It was Dec. 1, 1859, when Peggy was last seen by her family; approximately a year later a farmer hung for her death. Peggy's body was never found.
