Simplify Your Physical Environment

Fun and jam-packed. ideas that you can start using right away. Welcome to another episode. I'm your co-host Ellen along with my co-host Lee. Okay. Trying to simplify. Very much. Give it in quick. Let's go. Simplify. Okay. Um, yeah, we're we're got a a new year coming and uh why not make things simple? So there you are. Yeah, and I don't know if this is a word, but simpler, I guess it is a word.

Simpler. Sure. Simpler. Meaning, you know, everything we do, if we just, you know, put our finger on it or hands on it or mind around it and said, is there a better, faster way to do this? And just do it for a a day. And just see if there's a way to Simplify the steps and maybe f you know, find a tool that would make it go quicker.

or better yet, delegate it. But looking for ways to simplify some of the things we do all the time and in and save a few seconds or a minute here or there. And it it really adds up. Okay. Uh give us an example. Well, sometimes uh you know, when I'm setting things up, I realize, wow, wouldn't this be easier if I just left it set up? So I get that. I get that. I'm staring at my microphone, which

has uh you know all kinds of things tool things that go with it. Um I just now leave it set up and push it off to the side. And so it saves about two to three minutes. Uh, but I use it all the time. So why not leave it out? Absolutely. I've been doing a lot of sewing and so I've been leaving the sewing machine set up and ready to go. And honestly, it's kind of nice. Um

You know, when things have been busy, some of the projects I'm working on, if I I can just I've got five free minutes, boom, I'll sew a seam and everything's set up and ready to go. And and I like that. And I looked around, I said, How often do I use this or that? Like we have a ho uh a a hot tub, but it's collapsible. I mean you can

put it away. Oh it's we don't use we're not using it this time of year. And so I'm gonna take it down'cause I have to check the filter and put in chlorine and check the chlor I mean absolutely And for not being used, it doesn't make any sense to leave it out. And it's expensive to run it. So I'm taking that down.

And I'm gonna you know, some of the other things that I've looked at that I don't use, I'm gonna sell'em. And I have been selling'em. And I put it in my Kawaii fund. So Ooh, nice. When you're listening to this, I may be in Kawaii already. I like that. Aloha.

Track, Review, and Delegate for Efficiency

But also simplifying is is like kind of tracking yourself too, which I know sounds counterintuitive, but how much do you work out? What are your best uh most effective Let's say if you're a runner or a walker, you know, what are the best trails and tr and paths that you like to take and you feel like you got a good workout. Well, make note of that. And so when it's time to to run or walk, you go, Oh no, this is my favorite

That time just flies when I'm on this one, or, you know, this one's a little more complicated, but I get a really good workout. But keep track of things so you don't have to recreate the wheel each time you need to do them. And I think with digital, uh, you know, we used to be we would have to, you know, hand do our taxes and keep

uh like a ledger book. Now that we do things digitally, at the end of the year you can get a report. So where did I spend my money? Which kind of tells you where you spent your time. And how much screen time did I use? And how much of the just to review, not judgy. We're not judging. We're just looking to see patterns and see if there's some way we could simplify uh by eliminating things and It's either to do it quicker or get rid of it. Those are the two options I'm looking at.

And so I'm timing some things I do that I thought, ah, it only takes two minutes. Well, sure enough, it took twelve minutes and I was shocked. You you know what I mean? It just I enjoy it, so I'm not noticing it, but wow, that took a lot longer than I thought. So, you know, just information and knowledge helps you to make better choices. And sometimes the choice is to either do it quicker or get rid of it and

Or maybe delegate or simplify. I was gonna d uh delegate is the word I was looking for. Okay, yeah, I don't that makes no sense for me to do it because it does take way more time than I thought. And there's things you can delegate. You ca obviously can't delegate like Getting out and exercising. Yeah. But you can you could uh get somebody to help you with it. Simplify it, you know, if you're one of those person people that are like,

I need to be quote unquote motivated to work out when in fact you just need a system. And maybe that system is having somebody that is going to You know, walk with you every day at eight o'clock. There's no question you don't need to be motivated. Someone's gonna knock on your door and you go.

Yeah. And then selling all that stuff I was telling you about, selling it one one at a time was one way to do it. But then a a friend um sent me a garage show and I realized, wow, this is the way to go. I sell it all at once. And that actually was very, very lucrative. Oh, there you go. I like it. I like it. Yeah, when I say lucrative I mean I made a couple hundred bucks, but

Hey, that's that's some kawaii money right there. Exactly. All right. Well, think of things that you can simplify, put in some systems that make your life a little faster and easier. Because they're simpler. back with us again next week for another episode.
