Episode description

Today I am bringing you another episode in a new Series I am calling (UN)Learn to Learn. This series is created to continue important conversations and dialogue on the Black Experience, Anti-Black Racism and its affects on society and Black People. I will be sharing my personal experiences and also speaking to my Black friends, family, community members, academics, artists, influencers, business owners etc., so they too can share their stories and education on The Black Experience. I want to continue to share the realities of Black People Living in our society plagued with white supremacy and the systems that keep them in place. I am holding space for us to have open and honest dialogue, that will hopefully inspire people to think differently and be part of the shift towards actually equality.

On this episode, I am happy to have my dear friend Nicoy Davis join me on the show. Nicoy is a fierce and fabulous Black Queer man, who is passionate about equality and rights for the Black, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities. In our conversation we discuss:

  • What his experience has been/is as a Black Queer male, who has lived in both Canada and St. Maarten.
  • His response and/or feelings when other Queer White males say “I know what this (Anti-Black racism) feels like because I am gay”.
  • Performative Allyship.
  • Anti-Black Racism in the LGBTQ+ community and its affects on his mental health.
  • What happens now? What he thinks needs to be done to continue with the process of unlearning, so we can see real change when it comes to anti-black racism in this country and beyond?

If you want to connect with Nicoy, you can submit questions via Voice Messages or connect with him on his Instagram, @nicoydavis. As always, you can stay up to date on new episodes by Subscribing wherever you listen to this podcast, and via social media: @TheFabCollective on Instagram and @FabChanner on Twitter.
