Let's Talk About Black Mental Health w/ Roxy Francis EP 19
Episode description
On this episode I am happy to welcome Psychotherapist Roxy Francis and we will be speaking about Mental Health, specifically Black Mental Health and why it’s so important to address it. With the unfortunate and continued murders of unarmed, innocent Black Folks, like this week’s senseless killing of Duante Wright, the mental wellbeing of Black Folks is something we should collectively be paying much more attention to and providing support for.
In this first of many episodes with Roxy, we discuss:
- Who Roxy is and why she pursued this career path
- Roxy explains the difference between psychotherapist and psychologist.
- Black mental health with non-black therapist
- We discuss if there is adequate Mental Health support for Black Communities?
- Some common themes when it comes to Black mental ill health?
- I ask her if she thinks society failed us Black Folks when it comes to our mental wellbeing?
For my fellow Black Folks, this episode starts to explore the things we can do to protect our peace and and start to renew what trauma has and continues to rob of us of. For non-Black folks who have committed to keep on doing the work, who want to be allies to the Black community and/or want to gain more understanding, this episode is also for you.
