You have been working very, very hard for many, many years to start a business and now you meet someone, the love of your life. We're going to continue with our discussion of Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist and...

This is part four of a series about the journey of Santiago. And today in this episode, we're going to talk about the importance of having a strong life partner, like a wife or a husband. to help you and support you in your life's journey, in your goals, to help you achieve your goals, especially when you are not sure about making a decision.

because sometimes you feel confused you feel lost and in these situations if you have the right partner if you have the right husband or wife that person will help you make a good decision also the dangers of not having the right partner so there's a very important and strong balance and this part in the story santiago has just met the love of his life fatima if you don't know the story you should go back to the previous episodes i will put the links below

where you can listen and understand the story. But at this part in the story, Santiago is in the desert, and he just met Fatima at the oasis. He is on his way to his treasure. He had this dream and he was following the treasure that was in the pyramids of Egypt. He met people on the way. He met the Englishman and he ended up looking for this man, the alchemist.

somebody who turns metal into gold so now they're looking for him and they made a stop at the oasis because there's war and they don't know when they will continue the journey with a caravan that will take him to egypt so During this time where they are staying at the oasis he met Fatima and when he met Fatima he felt this strong love right he's like this is the love of my life and now he is facing the decision

whether or not he should continue on his journey to go find the treasure that he has come all the way from Andalusia to go and find. Or he should stay here.

in this place, in this village, or at the oasis, marry the woman of his dreams, the love of his life, and just settle down and go back to being a shepherd. He is... confused right because he believes he has found the love of his life the most amazing woman and he wants to marry her like he straight up told her i want to marry you i want you to be my wife what would you do in this situation

you have an important goal to achieve or a journey ahead of you maybe you have plans to go study abroad or you have an important project to start or you have been working very hard for many many years to start a business and now you meet someone the love of your life but you have to make some difficult decisions what would you do would you stay in the desert and marry Fatima

Or would you continue with your life journey? Or would you do both? And how would that work? This is where the importance of having the right life partner comes in. In this episode, we'll find out what Santiago will do and what happens to their relationship. What happens to himself as well after they met they started getting to know each other and Santiago started telling her all his life story or his life's journey where he came from

what he experienced on the way. He told her about his life as a shepherd, about the king, about the crystal shop, and of course I'm pretty sure he told her when he got robbed. He lost all his money and he had to start from zero again. He also told her that he is on his way to find a treasure.

and of course they feel a very very strong connection immediately and just like i explained in the previous page they felt this instant love as if the world stopped so he would go and talk to her every day and Something really powerful happened because now in this crucial moment that he feels confused, he needed the right person to make the right decision. And this also shows...

The importance of having somebody in your life who supports you with not just but with your life goals. Also, she or he wouldn't think that your life goal is crazy or stupid. If you have a... silly idea or a stupid life goal then maybe you need to but you understand what i mean the person actually believes in what you are trying to achieve not that they think ah

That's stupid. What? You make videos on TikTok? You make podcasts? What? This is also really a sign of a strong woman or a strong man, if you're a woman. Because Santiago is confused, right? And he's also vulnerable. But Fatima is not trying to take advantage of his vulnerability, right? He's confused. He's vulnerable. But he's... expressing his confusion to her because they trust each other and they love each other and it seems that they want the best for each other so because of that he is

confiding in her he's expressing what he feels in his heart and what he dreams to achieve and then fatima says you have told me about your dreams about the old king about your treasure and you've told me about the omens so now i fear nothing because it was those omens those signs those trials those experiences that brought you

to me and i'm a part of your dream and a part of your personal legend or your mission and this this phrase is repeated many times in the book personal legend which means your personal mission and she said that's why I want you to continue towards your goal. If you have to wait until the war is over, that's fine. You can wait. But if you have to go before then, go in pursuit of your dream. And that is very, very powerful because...

She could have said, no, I love you so much, Santiago. I want you to stay and marry me, right? But no, she said, maktub. That means it's written. You're supposed to meet me and you're supposed to go on this journey. If I'm really a part of your dream, then you'll come back. I'm a desert woman and I'm proud of that. I want my husband to wander as free as the wind.

that shapes the dunes the boy was sad as he left her that day this happened and this was a very crucial moment because it gave assurance to their love and to the way they thought about each other by the way again this is a very very important sign or a big sign of a strong woman because a lot of times the reason

people have problems in their relationships in their marriage is because of power dynamic this person wants to control the other person they don't want them to do things they want to do right And because of trust issues, maybe they don't trust each other because of their past experiences. For whatever reason, they don't.

want the other person to do what they want because they think oh maybe they'll do something wrong. Santiago also remembered something that the old king has said always heed the omens. Always pay attention to the signs, to the things that people say or the things that you see.

right you have to pay attention to the signs this is why it's really really important to study to read to learn more knowledge so that you understand the world better sometimes you just have to surrender because you just don't know But you have to trust God and make a decision. It's also really important to pay attention to the signs. So Santiago had seen this vision about an army coming, attacking the oasis or something like that.

He tells the camel driver, he says, I need to tell somebody about this vision. I need to tell the leader of the tribe here in the Oasis about this vision I had. And so he goes and meets... the leader of the tribe in the desert. He says, look, this is what I saw. I think an army might be coming to attack. So just letting you know.

they start asking him all these questions but the leader and some old man believe what he is saying because interpreting explaining dreams and visions were a thing in the traditions in the desert so believe him and they tell him who are you he tells them and he's very happy that he told them about this the danger that is about to come even though he's not 100 sure but he tells them and after he does

he starts walking back to the oasis. And when he walks back, he feels like, feels very happy that he did something. maybe to protect the oasis to protect these tribes to prepare themselves right feels very happy and he's also scared because he's like oh my god what if it's true what if there's an army coming and attacking and it's very risky

But because he has practiced living in the present moment, he's not very scared. One of the guys that he met was explaining to him about how men live in the desert and how they fight. Fighters in the desert are... good fighters or were good fighters because they always focus on the present moment where's my enemy's sword where was his horse what kind of blow should

one deliver next in order to remain alive so always staying focused and sometimes you get visions of the future that becomes true but it's only God that shows you those little glimpse of the future he says so how do I guess the future well based on the omens of the present so always be present and pay attention to the present what's happening right the secret is here in the present if you pay attention to the present you can improve upon it

And if you improve upon the present, what comes later will be better. So you can start predicting good things in the future. So now when he's walking back to his tent or wherever he's staying, After telling the chieftain about the army coming, he's just walking peacefully, walking along in the silence. He had no regrets about telling them. And he's like, if I die tomorrow, it would be because...

It was Maktoub. I was supposed to die. But he's like, at least he had lived every one of these days intensely every day in the present, right? Since he had left home a long time ago. So he feels like even all of those difficult moments he had experienced, those difficult days, he had lived all of these days intensely with full of energy.

full of passion not like ah it's just another day right so it's really really important to practice living in the present and cherishing every moment so he's just living in the moment walking back and then suddenly he heard a thundering sound and he was thrown to the ground by a wind that he had never known the area was swirling in dust so intense that it hid the moon from view so there was like a

Like a tornado or like a swirling of the wind. Before him was an enormous white horse rearing over him with a frightening scream. So like there's a horse right in front of him and he's on the ground. my god what's happening and when the dust cleared the boy trembled at what he saw a horseman he saw a horseman completely in black with a falcon perched on his left shoulder

He wore a turban and his entire face, except for his eyes, was covered with a black kerchief. He appeared like he's a messenger from the desert, right? But his presence was very powerful. Now, who is this man? Santiago is really frightened. Like, my God, what's happening? The man seems really, really powerful.

he has a sword he draws it against santiago's face and he's scared but he feels bold right he feels like he has courage right they start having conversations like what are you doing here why are you making predictions about an army stuff like that right and then he says what are you doing what is a stranger doing in a strange land Santiago said I'm following my personal legend it's not something you would understand

The stranger placed his sword in its scabbard and the boy relaxed. So he put away the sword. The stranger said, or the horseman, he said, I had to test your courage. Because like I said, Santiago was not very scared. when the horseman drew his sword and he did that on purpose because he wanted to test and see if he's scared courage is the quality most essential to understanding the language of the world the boy was surprised he's like

Oh my god, what? Like, Stan? The stuff that I have learned? The stranger was speaking of things that very few people knew about. Now, who is this strange man? Actually, this strange man is what? The alchemist. Santiago has met the alchemist. And guess what? Next morning, there were 2,000 armed men. Scattered.

throughout the palm trees now i don't want to spoil everything about the story because i think you should read it yourself because it's a fantastic story and there are a lot more details about what's going to happen but something that is really striking another sign that it's important to have people in your life who support you with your life goals sometimes it could be a stranger but for the most part i'm talking about

friends family or people that support you and encourage you to follow your personal legend because here again the alchemist also encourages him to follow his personal legend to go and find his treasure and you know Santiago tells the alchemist well I want to stay here at the oasis I found Fatima I feel

I feel settled, like I want to marry her and settle down here, right? She's more than the treasure. She's more important than the treasure. And then the alchemist says, she already has her treasure. She has you. It's you. Now she expects you that you will go and find what it is that you're looking for. Again, this is also, if you're a man, this is also something that women really love about.

Something that women love about men. Chasing after something meaningful. Having your own life mission. Not like... just right after you get married you start getting relaxed or not having a sense of direction like everything about you becomes about her no you are your own person it doesn't matter how much you love your partner, your wife or your husband, you need to stay focused on your own personal mission, on your own personal legend. And that's what the alchemist tells Santiago.

just because you found her and you love her and she loves you doesn't mean that i'm just gonna stop doing everything about my life and just focus on her no now she expects you that you will go find what it is that you're looking for. And this is really powerful. This part really convinces Santiago that, okay, I'm gonna follow my personal legend. I'm going to follow my dream. He's like, okay, going to give you a scenario. If...

You decide to stay here and marry Fatima. Let me tell you what will happen. You'll be the counselor of the Oasis because, you know, he has the ability to... to tell the future but guess the future and he has these visions so they're going to respect you you're going to become the counselor here you have enough gold to buy many sheep and many camels you're going to marry fatima

And you will both be happy for a year. You'll learn to love the desert. You'll get to know every one of the 50,000 palms. Sometimes during the second year, you will again remember your treasure, your life goal, the old dream that you had. the omens will begin insistently you'll start seeing signs hey you need to keep going right but you'll try to ignore them because now you know you're busy with family and the dream will start fading away and you'll use your knowledge

for the welfare of the oasis and its habitat, so you'll become experienced in what you do with your counseling job. During the third year, the omens will continue to speak of your treasure and your personal legend. You will walk around night after night at the Oasis and Fatima will be unhappy because she will feel like it was her fault that you stop following your dream. But you will love her and she will return.

the love, right? You will remember that she never asked you to stay. She told you, go follow your treasure and then come back to me, right? So you won't blame her. You will not say, oh, it was her fault that I didn't chase my dream. Many times you will walk the sands of the desert thinking maybe you could have left. Maybe you could have made that decision. Maybe you could have taken that job.

maybe you could have quit that job, right? That you could have trusted more in your love for Fatima. But because what kept you at the Oasis was your own fear that you might never come back here. And at that point, the omens will tell you, the signs will tell you that your treasure is buried forever. It's gone forever. That's it. And at that moment,

All you'll be able to say or think is, I wish I had pursued my treasure. That brings us to the end of this part. In the next part, we're going to talk about what will happen. Will he come back to Fatima or not? We'll find out. Thanks for listening or thanks for watching this episode on the English Zone podcast about The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho. We'll be back with part five. And part five might be the final part. We'll see what happens. I'll see you soon.
