Episode description

Welcome to the EMCC UK Podcast, and welcome to this spotlight on Neurodiversity. Permission to proceed – ADHD Coaching with David Giwerc.

Our hosts, Helena Territt and Phillippa Eddie were lucky enough to meet with a true legend, David Giwerc, who founded the ADD Coach Academy back in 1999. To put that into context, ADHD was only widely recognised as a valid condition in the UK in 2000 and adult ADHD still faces scepticism

David is a Master Certified ADHD Coach (MCAC) with the Professional Association for ADHD Coaches (PAAC) and a Master Certified Coach (MCC) with the International Coaching Federation (ICF).

He is the Founder and President of the ADD Coach Academy (ADDCA), the first and largest comprehensive ADHD coach training program fully accredited by the ICF and PAAC.

In his book, Permission to Proceed: The Keys to Creating a Life of Passion, Purpose, and Possibility for Adults with ADHD, David shares his unique and effective coaching models for gaining control of one’s ADHD.

During the conversation, David shares with Helena and Phillippa the foundational pillars of ADHD Coaching and how it enhances emotional, social intelligence, and executive functioning. He also delves into some of ADDCA's coaching models, rooted in neuroscience, and their efficacy in educating clients about their unique ADHD profiles.

This is relevant to all coaches with an interest in neurodiversity and not just ADHD specialists.

Our hosts:

Helena Territt – Helena has an MSc in executive coaching from Ashridge Hult Business School, and is certified by the ADD Coach Academy. Helena was diagnosed with ADHD in her 40s and has several family members who are ADHD and autistic. She runs Hatched Coaching, where she specialises in working with neuro-atypical leaders.

Philippa Eddie – Philippa works for the Cabinet Office with a focus on the government’s decarbonisation agenda, and is an internal mentor and coach for the Civil Service. She has a special interest in coaching and mentoring people who are neurodivergent, which was born out of a family member’s diagnosis of ADHD and autism. Philippa is a non-executive director on the board of EMCC UK.
