What's all this about the Jets defense having the best in the entire MFL. It was the Eagle defense who came to play on this Sunday, forcing three turnovers, including this interception by Eric Rowe, who was thrust into defensive action for the first time in his NFL career, to help give the Eagles a twenty four to seventeen win over the New York Jets. Welcome to the postgame show

presented by Rico. I'm Chris McPherson, all alongside Joe to camera, Joe, Eagles fans had to hold their breast for the last couple of minutes there. But nonetheless, when you look back at this win later on down the road, no one's going to remember how pretty or how Ugio was. The most important thing for the Eagles is they got into the wind calm for the first time in the twenty fifteen season. It was the objective. Chris, There's no question. It was not always a pretty game, There's no doubt

about that. I think the offense still in the second half and it didn't look great, but the defense played a fantastic game, and generally speaking, look the Eagles, they achieved the objective. They had to do go up to northern New Jersey and win a football game, get back

into the season. You look at the way the division went today with the Dallas Cowboys losing, and of course on Thursday night with the Giants beating Washington, and all of a sudden, the Eagles, you know, at one and two, just a game back at the Cowboys when the Dallas has their injury issues. So everyone in Philadelphia can take a deep breath and look, there's still some some serious work to be done here, because this Eagles offense still

isn't churning, you know, very effectively yet. But deep breath, the Eagles are back in. They're in the season. They're in the season, Chris, and now you get to move forward. Certainly, that's the most important thing. Where you hear from head coach Chip Kelly and quarterback Sam Bradford a little bit later in the show, but we saw the interception there by Eric row and to me, a big theme of

today is win Joe, next man up. You have Eric Rowe who was put into significant action, Brandon bar who is active today for the first time this season because of the injuries to Cedric Thornton and Taylor Hart, he deflected a past I was intercepted by Jordan Hicks. Jordan Hicks, the third round pick out Texas. He notched his first career interception as he had to play because of the injuries to Kiko Alonso and Michael Kendricks. So so many

players stepping up. I didn't even talk about Ryan Matthews, the ground game finally getting going, to Marco Murray out with the hamstring injury. Well, Matthews got the job done on the ground there almost one hundred yards on the day. Almost could have had a couple more touchdowns there, but still it was great to see the ground game get going, the defense stepping up, standing tall. And how about Darren Sprowles providing the spark not just on offense but special

teams as well. An eighty nine yard punt return, the longest of his career, the second longest enfranchise history, which really got things going for this team in the second quarter. I'll tell you what, Chris, I'm still trying to figure out how the heck the Eagles got Darren Sproles for a fifth rounds draft pick. You know, before last season, how did no team in the league say, okay, now, or Leans here's a fourth rounder. If you're going to

trade the guy, here's a fourth rounder. Somehow it comes all the way back to the Eagles with the fifth round. It was a tremendous trade. Darren Sproles continues to just pay incredible dividends for this franchise. And you know, he made a play that got this season jump start at Chris. I mean, he really did tremendous play by Sproles. And you mentioned Ryan Matthews. You know, we got to get back to Matthews as well, because you know, to me, Ryan Matthews is probably the player of the game for

the Eagles today. Now, he the fumble late and that was, you know, very nerve racking for sure. Other than the fumble, I don't think there's any question he was the player of the game for the Eagles, and he provided consistency

through round. I thought he ran very hard and he broke some tackles and obviously in filling in for DeMarco Murray, it was an important spot at I went too for this Eagle's offense to get going, and even though again it didn't click on all cylinders, Ryan Matthews made place

to help the Eagles win today. Certainly this is the reason why the Eagles signed Ryan Matthews in the first place, along with DeMarco Murray, because the last couple of years the Eagles were alive on Lashawn McCoy way too much. They knew they couldn't get that kind of workload or depend on that kind of workload out of one player anymore. So you bring in DeMarco Murray. He struggles the first couple of games, injures a hamstring there and during the

week of practice he's unable to go. So Ryan Matthews comes in one hundred eight yards on the ground, certainly a huge, huge aspect and getting this ground game going. And how about this because we can't what are we three or four minutes into the show, we haven't even mentioned the offensive line. Now, the offensive line was the topic all week. It's been the topic for gosh, the first two weeks of the season, it's been all about the offensive line with good reason. They had not played well.

Today they got it together. The guys played much better. Of course, we saw the injury with Andrew Garter until in there, but the offensivelign did a very very good job to do their job and give the Eagles offense a chance to move the ball. Bit all right, so much to talk about, and we're going to delve into that and a whole lot more. Plus we'll hear from

head coach Chip Count in a little bit. Come up here on the postgame Show presented by Rico with extra twenty checking from sant ANDERI you can get paid twenty dollars a month. Please play responsible. Welcome back to the postgame show presented by Rico here on Philadelphia Eagles dot Com. The Eagles victorious with capturing their first win of the season twenty four to seventeen over the New York Jets. And for me, Joe, it was great to see the Eagles get off to the fast start. They got the early stop on defense, offense takes over. They go fifty four yards and eleven plays, get into the red zone, have to sell for the Cody Parky field goal. But you just felt good about

the run game early on. Matthews had a twenty seven yard run on that drive, and the fact that they were able to get a lead early on for the first time this season. It was huge. It just settled everybody down. It settled me down. I'm sure it settled the viewers down, and you would think it settled the guys on the team down as well, considering how pathetic really the first halfs had been. To get going and get into the flow and get a lead was big.

I thought Jordan Matthews had a really big third down conversion on that drive, which was very critical, And again it just allowed everybody to settle in. And you know, Sam Bradford, boy, he was up and down of times. You know, this is a strange one because in some ways there were plays I thought Bradford left out there. But at the same time, there was a play where Ryan Matthews could have caught a ball and kept running down the sideline. There's a play Darren Sprowles had an

opportunity to run. So they could have been sixty seventy yard games for touchdowns. So it's a little hard to evaluate from that standpoint. It could have been a lot more efficient offensively. I think Bradford's still trying to find his way in this season. But you know, again, the Eagles offense at least did more than they had done in the first two weeks. And that first drive was really big just to get it going. I mean, the Eagles race up to a twenty four nothing lead, held

on for the twenty four to seventeen victory. Quentin Copele's helping things out. The Eagles with a third and long situation, it looked like they were gonna be forced to punt, but then Quentin Coples commits the hands of the face penalty and the Eagles were able to kneel on the ball. So we're gonna hear from head coach Chip Kelly and

quarterback Sam Bradford in just a little bit. When it comes to Bradford's performance, My thing, Joe is the toughest throw that he made was a wheel route to Matthews, which end up being the touchdown. Let's go on the one that Matthew's wide open ball was a little bit off. Matthew's obviously should have had it still had plenty of room in front of him. Could have been a touchdown there. And then Sprowles was another one where the ball was fitting there nicely. It just seems like the guys still

aren't making enough plays to help out the quarterback. You look at Ryan Fitzpatrick of the Jets. On the other hand, I forget exactly who it was and made the reception when they were trying to come back in the second half. But the receiver, I want to say it was anew It was laid out on the ground and had the hands behind them trying to bring in the past. Not a great lead thrown ball, but still it was the

receiver stepping up to make plays. You saw how many times the cornerbacks, defensive backs were draped over Brandon Marshall and he's able to come down to play. So you still want to see the receivers and running backs, whoever it is, step up and make those big plays. Help them out absolutely. And you know, and also when you're talking about the Jets passing game, I think it's and you mentioned at the very beginning, but worth going back

to Eric Rowe stepping up making plays today. This isn't just a one game situation where it's important for the Eagles and he made plays today. This is about his development, This is about this season, This is about the next three to four years. You know, in his rookie contract,

Eric Roll becoming a contributor for this franchise. It didn't look good with the preseason games as we saw Chris and obviously Chip Kelly and Billy Davis styled him back, not having him involved in the first two weeks, but to see him get out there today make plays, it's a very encouraging sign for what this defense can do moving for certainly, so the Eagles win the turnover battle

by three four total turnovers. They have, of course the fumble there, then you also have the interceptions by not just Rowe, but by Jordan Hicks, and also deep down sun by Walter Thurman. What I find that he has been at the safety position. Look, this is a guy who's played corner who has career, he'd played in the slot, and then there was a chance last year he could have signed with the Eagles, but the team signed Nolan

cow instead. So you know, Thurman went and signed with the Giants, suffered an injury early in the season, didn't play a whole lot, becomes a free agent, comes to Philadelphia, they think that he's going to be a cornerback. But then at the beginning of the OTAs they say, well why don't we make the tranches in the safety, And all of a sudden he's been a ball hawk for them. A nice compliment there to Malcolm Jenkins. Yeah, he's made place. I think that's the big thing. He has made places.

He's shine, he is he is stepped up and flashed for sure. I also thought Byron Maxwell was better today. You know, he had the fade route on or you know the one where Byron Maxwell got in the fourth in the fourth quarter where Brandon Marshall got the ball, but you know that's going to happen from time time. Maxwell was better. I also thought Carol made some place today. So the defensive secondary is better. You had mentioned Brandon Bear earlier getting pressure, you know, which helped. And again

Ryan Fitzpatrick wasn't very good. I mean, Ryan Fitzpatrick definitely late let some place stand out there on the field for the Jets, and that helped Eagles defense. But Eagles defense generally did their job. And now you get set for you know, we'll hear Chip Kelly coming up in a couple of minutes here and then ultimately a Washington Redskins team where now the division has I don't want to say come back to the Eagles, it's too early to say that, but the Eagles are in it. At

one and two, they're in it. We know the injury situation around the division, and Eagles have a shot now for sure. Joe, I think you looked at his Eagles team in the first two weeks and you said, Okay, the defense had made improvements, had started to get better.

It's a question it could the offense turn around. And I feel like that if you were going to say one thing about the Eagles, it's you have Chip Kelly, you have Pat Shermer overseeing the offense, that they should be the ones to get the offense turn around as long as Bill Davis could continue to take care of

the defense and see the improvements there. Corey Unland doing an amazing job there with the secondary up and now we're gonna send it to MetLife Stadium and here from head coach Chip Kelly following the wind, you can do your run game going again. You know, we really just kind of went back to basics in terms of what we're doing run wise. I thought, you know, Ryan hit it in there a few times. Give him credit. I think he like his style in terms of how it

fits in terms of what we're doing. They got some big bodies up front, you know, so we had to try to get outside a little bit more run, a little bit more outside zone than um, but trying to get away from those big bodies. But I thought, you know, um, in the first half we got to go one of the second half, we you know, there's a little bit more guys in the box. You got a big lead. You know, everybody knows you're trying to run it, trying to work the clock a little bit. We need to

be better at that aspect of it. But in the first half, I thought it helped us. How would you describe were you just the overall performance today? I thought it was gritty, you know it was We knew going in that this was just going to be one of those kind of use a box and analogy to you, guys are gonna stand in the middle of the ring and just start swinging at each other. And that's what happened.

I mean that that defense that they have and we talked about it earlier in a week with outstanding corners, you know that the you know, can really cover and then so they can devote a lot of people in there um to the run game and they just you know, I just kind of won to pretty win. But it was, you know, kind of ugly, but it's what we had to do to UM to win this football game. And then I think our defense played really really well. You know, he created a lot of turnovers over there. We knew

what they were going to do. There's a lot of empty sets that they run, UM trying to figure out if you're in manner zone, if you're in man there. You know, Marshall's such a big target. You know, it's a difficult matchup at times. Uh and fits he's so smart he kind of gets the ball out quick, so the Russia doesn't really get to him. UM. But I thought our defense, especially some of those young guys had

an opportunity play kind of stepped up today. So Jordan and Eric made some big plays, got the turnovers, yeah, they did. You know, we were really excited about Jordan when we got him, when we talked about him being a third down linebacker. And I think you're starting to see that he's got great coverage skills um, and he's really gotta there's a calmness to Jordan. He's got a real good awareness out there. So I don't think anything

was really too big for him. The obviously made a you know, a big catch on the tip ball and I think it was Brandon Barrow at the tip um and then Eric I thought they had really good coverage. A couple of times they broke up one on our sideline and then come up with a pick on our sideline. So you know, it was good to see. You know, the two of those guys contribute to the victory on the defensive side. So finally getting out, you know, the first one soldo thirty. But what can you do for

team topidence going forward? Yeah? You know what it's really like everything, it's got to be the same mentality is that obviously, um, you gotta make your corrections on Tuesday, and then you gotta go because what happened in the week before in this league, you know, sometimes really doesn't have a real big impact on the next week. You know, every week is going to be kind of a street fight, you know, and you got to be prepared. We still have a lot of corrections we have to make, um.

But it's obviously easier on Tuesday when you're talking to a team after after a win than it is after a loss. So m but we still have a lot of work to do. Look ad you see of the scrolls? Yeah again, and we it's another thing. We're just trying to talk about getting there, getting there and started back there, and I thought we had a great hold up, you know, and um, I had some gave him an opportunity to catch it clean and then once he gets ahead of steam,

he's very difficult to block. But I thought, um, you know, that's what we kind of expect out of our punt return team because we have such a dynamic return back there. If we can we can kind of get him started, We're hoping good things can happen. And that's what that's

what happen. Can you see when he has a chance to catch a clean And yeah, everybody, I think everybody's like that on on our team, you know, just because of the impact he can he can make on a football football play, just being able to flip the field, um, you know. And and and you could tell him that one he gotta he was he was gonna get We're gonna get something out of it because he was gonna get a chance to get started. To see Ryan Matthews

running staff compliments, what you're trying to do? What do you mean exactly? He's a real decisive what kind of one cut runners stuck his foot in the ground and go and you're gonna have to run through some arm tackles at times, um, and he did. You know, he's got some uh some size to go along with his

explosion and he and he can. You know, there there are times where guys are kind of running off the tackles and he's you know, it's it's not a um, make you miss thing, it's you've got to be physical through there. And he was really physical. I thought today running the football the first two weeks that the Jets plus and in turnover. Is that something you emphasized there? We did, We really did, and I think they were plus ten in the first two weeks they had ten. Yeah,

they created a ten. So you know, it's really what we we talked about is creating turnovers on our side of the ball. It's been something since we talked about last April, is that we turned the ball over too much last year offensively and we got to create more on the defensive side of them. And then obviously, um it had a huge impact on the game today. Why didn't Marko Yeah, we tried. He tried pregame and just

couldn't go. So the Bears impact at the line. I mean, it really seems like he does a good job coming in and getting his hands up and get into a passing lanes somewhere. He does he and a lot of that. He has a knack for that. But it was part of what we talked about with what fits he does. You know, one of Billy's emphasis is this week with those guys is that if the balls out so quick, we may not be able to get to him in

a pass rush. So we need to cloud the throwing lanes for him and be able to You know, it takes a kind of a little bit of a knack to start to pass rush and then get a field for the timing in your head and get your hands up and hum. Brandon does have a knack for it. But I think he got two today and one of them resulted in the three yeah, three today. You know, I saw two, you know so, and I know they resulted in a turnovers for him. But again that's that's

a big impact. You know, if you're not going to get to the quarterback, can you disrupt his timing and

can you disrupt the throwing lanes? And I thought he did that, so one where you got the big lead, so it looks like you slowed down the offense a little bit and sort of pick picked response where you picked up the ten bottles or any just trying to figure out they were giving you so many different looks so you can kind of get into you know, we tried to get in some formations and see what they were doing and then you know, just get us into the appropriate players. I thought Sam did a nice job

considering what they brought. They think they can bring a rush. Um, unlike any team we play. They they bring, they bring seven. You know they're gonna play zero man behind it. Um. You know, I think there are a few of those drops. I think all those guys would like back. You know, they had the one down the far sideline that when he released it, Sproles hadn't even turned the corner again and then he turns the corner and it drops right into his hands. So um, but he kept battling just

like everybody else. I'm sure there's probably a couple of throws he'd like back. And there's probably some catches that I think our receivers which they made so taking away stuff and twenty arts. These guys did a good job. But I mean you're talking about Rivas and Kramarti. So I you know, when you go back, we'll look at the film in terms of where we are. But you know, I don't think there was there was. They were pretty close and coverage ot day long. But that may be

the best tandem we play um and this year. So there's so many three and outs of the second half. Were you disappointed by that? Now? I was really excited. Actually, I mean is fired out now? I mean it's something we have to get better at. We have to be able to run the ball when everybody knows we're gonna run the ball, and uh um, you know, we just got behind schedule. Come times, we'd have a big game on first and first and ten, but then not real good.

Probably maybe play selection on second down to get us you know, kind of that first first down. So you know a lot of that falls on my shoulders in terms of calling plays. I got to do a better job in a second half. Should you had six guys are six guys are prior to game two more guys get hurt juring the game. Is that what you meant by by gritty win? Well, that's part of it, you know, I think some other guys. Some guys had some opportunities

to step up and make plays. And you know, obviously Jordan in terms of what he did because we had Michael and Keiko weren't playing today. Brandon bar is a prime example, you know, was said, and Taylor Hart, you know, being able to step up in there. Uh, Chris Maragos went down during the game. So Eric role gets pressed

into you know, gets pressed into service. And when he gets pressed into service, he responds, So um, you know it's a it's it's a tough league from that, you know, Ryan because you know, get a little bit more of shoulders because it's Demrco being out. So um, there's a lot you know, we talk about it. You know, the injury rates probably about one hundred percent this league. So um, when you when you have an opportunity, if you're dressed and you're part of the forty six, you got to contribute.

And I thought the guys that took advantage of their opportunities because they get a chance to play. So the outside zone pop. I think they were playing a lot of double three techniques, a lot of bare looks, nose guard two three techniques, trying to take away the insight so we had to try to get the ball to the perimeter or so when you when you acquired and extended scrolls, was this the vision you had in mind

for him? What now? I mean, there's so many different things he can do, you know, and um, we probably still haven't utilized him to the role we can, but I think he's his ability to change a game as a returner also as a running back. Um, you know didn't hesitate when we had the ball in the half yard line to give it to him. I think a lot of people would why are you giving it to him there? But he's got a knack for finding his way through. Um, and he's just such a weapon trying

to come out of the backfield. We had one third down there where um, you know, he they came all out in the blitz. We end up throwing it deep, but he kind of got tackled trying to run through. And there's a lot of guys devoted to him. So the offensive line, where did they showed? Um, they battled? You know, we can still improve there, Um, but I thought they battled this week and um, you know especially we we you know, Gardner went down, so Toben's got to come in the game, and then JP was on

in the last series. Um, and then Dennis came in the game. But you know, so you had to kind of use everybody in that situation. But I thought they battled in against the against a really good front, you know, with with Leonard Williams and Couples and uh Muhammad Wokerson. You know, that's that's a pretty formidable group that you're playing against right there. He didn't finish. Yeah, he got I don't know exactly what it was ust to be

honest with it. I know he got hit and so with Dennis went up, we kind of flipped Tobin over. Dennis went into right guard and don't Tobin flipped over to left tackle. But I haven't gotten I don't know exactly. He looked happy in the locker room. So Puff's injury was it during the practice? It was during yesterday? Yeah, he was just running around and felt something in his hamstrength. So he tried to see if he could go today. But I couldn't go. So what was the message to

those days for the day to day? Um, we're getting ready to go back. But you know, we talked about it kind of being a gritty game. We knew it was gonna be a gritty game going into it, and you're gonna have to kind of stand toe to toe and take their best shot, and then we're gonna give our best shot. And um, you know, I think everybody all phases offense, defense, and special times contributed to the win.

So two more guys defensive later times, you know, we did, Billy did about devoted a lot of guys to coverage, you know, so we were only gonna rush, you know, four and three at times. So can those four and three kind of dishrup the throwing lanes a little bit? And I thought they did. They got a good push on the pocket, um, and I thought we did a decent job in coverage. You know. I think probably the only drive we'd like back is that last drive right

at the end of the first half. Derek, you mean Ryan was head coach Chip Kelly addressing the media following the Eagles twenty four to seventeen to win over the New York Jets. Joe, who do you think the fans and the people of Philadelphia are happier about Chip Kelly delivering the win or the Pope. We've got a little little little blessings there both, you know maybe. I mean I was waiting all week. I was waiting for the Eagles. Chant here the list that twenty four hours with the Pope,

but it never happened. It's got to Sam brad Sam Bradford first win is an Eagle, Sam first w in a low aside. It feels good. Um, obviously that's a really good football team. You know, I'm on the road and get a win today, you know, a tough win. Our defense did a great job today keeping us in the game. Um. You know, it's just a great win for the team. Same. That's a tough teams to throw against. Obviously, what were some of the struggles that you guys had drawing? Um,

you know, like you said, they're a good defense. Um, I thought they matched up with us well today. You know, I missed a few throws. I think we had a few drops, you know, just uh, you know, a couple of different things, you know, on different different drives that kind of set us back. Um. But you know, like I said, I don't think there was anything major. I'm really proud of the way we fought, you know, to get that win, to hang in there, to fight, you know,

that's huge for us right now. In the first two weeks, you played from behind. Today played with the lead. What was that like for you? Um? I like that. You know, hopefully we can continue to do that. It's a lot more fun to play from ahead than it is behind. Um. You know, obviously we just got to figure out a way, uh, you know, when we get those leads to continue to put drives together in the second half. Obviously that was

a bit of a struggle for us today. Um. You know, so hopefully we can learn from that and continue to build, you know, win as Bill routs. I know, you know Matthew's dropped one, but the touchdowns, you know, similar type of player. Was that something you saw it already? Kind of take a dam job? Yeah, you know, we felt

the way they were playing Matthews in the game. You know, it was a lot of man coverage and you know, a couple of those looks we gotta matched up on a linebacker, and you know, the past couple of games we'd ran a lot of routes with him going to the flat, and so we figured they'd be hard on the flats and then you know, it looks very similar and then he just wheels up. Um. You know, and it worked pretty well today. What were your reason for taking it? Seemed to be more snaps under Seler about

it this week. UM, I'm not sure. You'd have to ask coach. Um. You know, I think it gets the run game probably a little more downhill. You know, that's how Ryan likes to run. You know, that's the only thing that really comes to my mind. Um, but you'd have to ask him. Running game established today, you know, I'm a huge, huge Um. You know, it was great and the first half to get those guys rolling, you know, I thought they ran really hard, that the line did

a great job opening holes. Um. You know, it's a good front seven that we just play, you know, and to be able to come out and run the ball the way we did in the first half, you know that that's really big for us do for a team's confidence as far as you know, maybe starting to strink here. I think it can do a lot, you know, especially for us. You know, I feel like the first couple of weeks there was just a lot of pressure on us. I feel like we're all pressing a little bit. You know.

It's just nice to get that first one and now that pressure is gone, you know, Like I said, it wasn't perfect today. Um, you know there's gonna be things that we need to correct, but you know, I think this is a great building block for this team. We've had a chance now to see Darren Sprowls up close and personalities a few much thoughts on what makes them such a special player. Oh, just as versatility. Um, you know, what he's able to do in the backfield, what he's

able to do in the slot. You know, obviously his punt returned today, you know that was a big momentum swing in the game. Uh. There's just so many different things that he does really well. You know, we can utilize him in so many different ways. I don't think there's a lot of guys in the league that you know, can do that. We'd already tell you that you were yelling completely. You sent of the past. So I had to do a turnover? How would you eat before the game?

How would you feel about it at? You know, uh, good and bad? You know obviously the turnovers you know something that we talked a lot about this week. You know, this defense had ten takeaways in the first two weeks. You know, for us to have I think one giveaway today, Um, you know that's big. Um. You know, obviously passing game, we just gotta be a little bit more efficient. Two more guys. What are they doing to take away the

d ball? Did seem like you know your truck him, I'm already Um yeah, I think they've got some great players on the outside. Um. You know, I think once we got the lead today, it was just kind of the way the game went. No wheel route. When you hit on the Matthews behind the linebacker, you have a guys screaming at you. It took quite a hit. Did you see it open right away? And just trying to anticipate what happened better? Uh, you know, I saw the way the linebacker was playing, and like I said, I

felt like he was playing the flat. You know, I think Ryan did a great job to avoid him and get outside of him. Uh you know, And I knew that the position that the linebacker was in, Ryan could outrun him. So just trying to put it out there and let him go get it. The ball that was bounced off of Ryan in the flat that was sort of a quite a drop. Was he going to wheel past him up the sideline at that point to the vacated area or not no, that was just a flat yeah,

all right, thanks guys, So it should be noted. On September twenty seventh, twenty fifteen, Sam Bradford records his first win as the quarterback for your Philadelphia Eagles. Welcome back to the postgame show presented by Rico Joe. How much do you think the pressure is off of him finally getting that first win in almost two years. It's been a long time, and it's got to be a great feeling for him. Now. There's so much work still to do, for sure, but this gets the Eagles into the seasons.

It gets obviously Bradford an opportunity to know that, you know, he can win. Here he mentioned something that felt was he was asked that he was prompted, but he got to it about the rushing attack and obviously Ryan Matthews is one of the main guys. Let's send it back to MetLife state him here from running back Ryan Matthews. You know in a while, so I had that many carries, but uh, you know it was fun and um, you know, the team played great, the line played awesome, and uh,

I think we have fun today. Are you the kind of guy who will leave here we're celebrating, you know, the performance. Who are lamenting the turnover? Uh, I mean it's it's it's a win. You know, we won the game. So you know that's that's at the end of the day. You know that that's really all that matters. Um. You know, stats or anything don't mean nothing to me. You know, as long as we get that w So your coach seem to say that you were decisive one cut your

life running? Uh when the quarterback with us are central, what what about that makes you a better runner? Uh? I feel like I got could see a little bit better, you know. Um, you know, Uh, I don't know. I just I mean I like running when he's in the gun too. So don't don't get don't get me wrong, but you know, I just I think it's just I think I run better from from under. H I mean, I think I just see a lot more than what I do usually when you know the quarterbacks in the gun.

But you know, it's just something I gotta work on and then get better at challenge of their of their defensive front. When you guys were scouting them during the week, what do they do so well? They play hard? Um? You know big guys, you know, the fast, physical and uh you know we knew coming to this game is it's gonna be you know, you know, a dogfight. So you know, my guys did a great job up front. You know they they worked the tails off today and they deserve all the credit. Is it to finally get

that running game established? Uh? You know for all of us? I think I think it's it's it's it's a plus. You know, Um, you know we can do it. We know we can do it. Uh you know, it's just uh putting that first leg in the water, you know, and uh you know, getting the going. Did it um on the flip site like the drop past it? I bet you wished down that all that. I mean, Uh, you make mistakes. You know, it's a game. You're not

gonna be perfect. Um you know, but uh you know, like I said, we won the game twenty seven yard run on the third place from scrimmage for you and the team kind of help get things going with the running game, did you big running? I mean it's it's it's I mean, it feels them, you know, get them

pumped up. You know when when you make big games like that, and um, you know everyone feeds off each other, you know, and then uh, like I said, everyone was having fun today, everyone was was firing and uh and everyone's playing where you kind of a just to kind of get the chance. I mean the first two games you got run the ball very much. And you know here obviously DeMarco's out. So not my first rodeo. You know, I played the game before and I started the game before. Um,

you know, uh, you know, it's fun. It's fun to get back out there and and and run and uh you know, just uh step in for for a good great running back, you know, and to take a looking forward fields when you had going up against your defense. Uh it was it's really uh, I mean, we we have to do it, you know. It's it's it's something that you know, we work on and and and practice every day and uh you know, it's uh something we

gonna can continue to get better at. I know I expected four carries though the first two games for you? Was it disappointing? Was it frustrating? Surprising? What's your mind set after those two games? I mean I knew it all signing up. When when I when I signed here, um, you know, got the marko on sprosy. You know back they're two great running backs. So you know, I just gotta wait my wait for my turn, wait for my number to be called. Right, How would you describe just

kind of the mood in the locker room? Um, after the first win? Uh, this is great. It's always good to get that first one out of the way, you know. Um, you know we've had you know, two bad weeks, you know, the first couple of weeks, and uh, you know, we gotta keep getting better. You know, this is this is no, this is the beginning of I think of something great. What what did you see? It's funny three yard you know we over you touchdowns as it seemed like that was open to Uh. I mean, I just do what

I was supposed to do. Um. You know the linebacker played it, you know, a little low. You know, I got over the top of him. Sam seen it, and uh, you know he tries to running backs. You know, even though I put two on the ground, he's he's he's he's still gonna go to us. And uh, you know it's it's it's it's it's a chemistry. You know, we work on it, you know a lot, and uh, you know it's It's just fun. How's the body, how's the body?

How's the body feeling after after such a workload. It's been a while, it's been a while had had cares like that, but it is, it's fun. It's a great feeling, you know, especially after win. Um, you know, canna come back watching on the mall, working on mistakes and get better and get ready for next week. Said, your style really fits with y'all were trying to do today terms of just getting what you could out of every play. Is that your mindset just you know, don't dance around

and try to see what's there, just take what's there. Yeah. Yeah, I feel like, you know, the more I danced around, the more defenders are gonna be on me, you know, trying to hit me. So you know, I try to get you know, the quickest you know way to point a to point bas a straight line, so you know, try and get get there as soon as I can. Thanks guys. So Ryan Matthews recording one hundred eight yards on the ground for his first one hundred yard game

as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. You know, that's just the type of game that you brought Ryan Matthews in for Demarca Murray unable to play due to the hamstring injuries suffered during the week, So you have a nice insurance policy there in Ryan Matthews also have Darren sproles. Of course they're in the backfield. But to me, this is how it's going to be with the Eagles offense. It could be a week where Ryan Matthews is a go to guy, another week it could be DeMarco Murray.

But to me, it's integral that they have all these backs and they have to get them all working well together. So they got Ryan Matthews going this week. Hopefully next week against Washington they'll be able to get DeMarco Murray if he's healthy, back in action. Yeah, and you would think with how DeMarco was pretty close to playing the day, you would think that he'd be ready to go for next week. We'll find out as we get there. But also not lost in the shuffle of this running back

discussion and Ryan matthews success the offensive line. They did their job. I mean they did their job after two weeks of struggles, struggles that were so profound that it really sent shockwaves through everyone in Philadelphia about you know, what is this season going to be like. They did their job today. They got the Eagles rushing attack going, they gave Bradford some time. The passing games still got

to pick it up more. But the improvement of the offensive line, I think is is a direct result you can see in winning the game. Okay, so a lot more to delve into. Laarn Moore at Philadelphiagles dot Com Flash Santan Dare, Welcome back to the postgame show presented by Rico Chris mcfears, along as that Joe did camera the Eagles victors over the New York Jets twenty four to seventeen. Joe, who is your player of the game. There are plenty

of options to choose from. Yeah, there are, I mean a lot of consideration at Jordan Hicks some consideration and Darren Sprawls. But I'm gonna go with Ryan Matthews. I thought his fierce rushing attack, the way that he ran the ball hard, got over a hundred yards. There was consistency first quarter through fourth quarter. Obviously, the fumble wasn't good and the drop passed on what could have been a touchdown if he had taken that all the way down the field wasn't good. But I'm gonna go with

Ryan Mathews. I thought he really brought it to that Love good options. Jordan Hicks is a very good one. To believe, ten total tackles and interception in a fumble recovery, I'm gonna go with him. I'm gonna give it to the third round pick who came into this game and was expected to pick up the low for Kiko Alonso

and Michael Kendricks. Now he was put into action last week against Tony Romo and recorded his first sack and knocked the quarterback out of the game in the process, and certainly very impressive, not just from the pass rushability, but from a coverage and run stuffing standpoint as well. But a coming of age game for Jordan Hicks here and there are times when he was in the middle of that dime defense and he is the one calling

the shots. So to see a third round pick come in and he's already been compared to Demiko Ryans from a physical stature standpoint when Ryans came out of Alabama ten years ago and was a second round pick of the Houston Texans. You look at Jordan Hicks now coming out Texas, some of the similars are there, but there are some players in the locker room. As you have Demiko Ryans, who's called the Mufassa of the Eagles defense, there are some who were calling Hicks the Simba of

this Eagles defense, following in the footsteps. So certainly an impressive alley by him. I mean I was actually gonna go with Darren Sprowls because of the two touchdowns and the one the punt return in the second quarter that really got the things rolling there for the Eagles. But Hicks, for the situation he was put in and for the performance he had overall, I think just too good to pass up. Yeah, and let me say this about Sprowles, Chris, you know when you talk about this game, and obviously

the final score of twenty four to seventeen. Now take away the Sprowles touchdown, right, the Sprowles punt return touchdown, what's the score? Well, the score seventeen seventeen. We've talked in the preseason, we've talked during the season. Here we are at the end of the third week, about the importance of this Eagle Special teams which many of us believe has the chance to be a truly special special teams unit, to go out there and win games for the Eagles. If the play we're seen on the screen

right now doesn't happen, it's a seventeen seventeen game. You can make a direct correlation to that play to winning the game and getting the season jump started. So, whether it's Hicks, whether it's Matthews, or whether it's Sproles, all are very deserved. And while the blocking was very good on that play. There's no doubt about that. That was a play where Sprowls in many ways made he made guys miss. I mean, it was a beautiful run. It

really wants another keep blocking the play. Another rookie who stepped up in a big way, Eric row with the interception, also had the block there to spring Sprowls at the end. So the rookie stepping up in a big way. And also Brandon Bear, defensive lineman first start of his career almost thirty one years old, was inactive for the first two games of the year, but was said Thornton and Taylor Hart out, Bear stepped up in the big way.

That's why he is a mountain of a man. So tomorrow head coach Chip Kelly will give his day after press conference at one pm, and then Brian Westbrook will be our co host on Eagles three sixty for all the latest news and notes. You can catch that with Dave Spadero at five PM. So that's gonna do it for us here on the postgame show presented by Rico
