The Eagles defense kept the team in the game for most of the evening thanks to the three interceptions, including that one there by Byron Maxwell, his first as a Philadelphia Eagle, but unfortunately it was not enough, as Eagles fell to the undefeated Panthers by a score of twenty seven to sixteen in Charlotte, North Carolina. Hello everyone, and welcome to the postgame show presented by Rico here on Philadelphia Eagle dot com Chris McPherson alongside former Eagles linebacker

Ike Greece. Again, the Eagles fall to the Panthers twenty seven to sixteen. They are now three and four head to the biweek ike where you look at this game from an offensive standpoint, they couldn't move the ball on the red zone, they were able to capitalize on those opportunities,

and then defensively they had the three turnovers. The three interceptions they are of Cam Newton, but they did allow over one hundred yards of Jonathan's two are on the ground, the first time they've allowed one hundred yards of rusher since the Frank Gore back in Week four of last season, so that streak is over. Nonetheless, though it was a good effort but just not good enough against a very hungry Panther's team at home. Yeah, and we knew it

would be a defensive struggle here. There's I mean, listen to Carolina Panthers only given up eighteen points per game. It's difficult to score points against this defense. They'll give up yardage, but they just don't give up very many touchdowns,

as was the case again here tonight. But the Eagles, in my opinion, they did what they needed to do on the defensive side of the ball, which was take the ball away from Carolina, get your offense extra possessions, try to find a way to shorten the field for your offense. It really boiled down to not being effective in the red zone on the offensive side of the ball for the Eagles. But I thought the defense played extremely well tonight taking the ball away, which is something

they need to do. Shortly, they give up a few yards in the running game. This is a difficult rushing attack to stop at times. But I thought taking the ball away was the key coming into the game. They were able to do that three times the night just didn't get any points of any touchdown, two field goals not a none. Now six points offer three turnovers, again

not able to convert in the red zone. The Eagles got the one touchdown from Ryan Matthews, a sixty three yards score, the longest run of his career, and that seemed to give them a spark because Eagles had given up the touchdown to Mike Tilbert, his second touchdown of the game. In fact, he accounted for two of the three Panthers touchdown. Cam Newton had a rushing touchdown as well. So we're gonna hear from head coach Chip Kelly and

quarterback Sam Bradford in just a little bit. First, we're gonna take a quick commercial break here on the postgame show presented by Rico Chris mcpheerson alongside Ike Res as we detail what happened here as Eagles followed to three and four, go into the bye week, and they now sit a game behind the New York Giants in the NSCE. So we're gonna break it all down right after this quick break. I got tickets, Metro tickets. You need a

Metro ticket. Talk to me, please. I don't even know these real tickets, if you know, just doesn't touch it this leather legit. I mean, how do we really know it looks good, right, No, I'm paying myself. I gotta make gray. Does the baby need a Metro ticket, I'll give her one on me. These tickets, they're not stealing your soul. You can look at them. May nobody wants to buy tickets from a guy on the street. I don't understand even ordinary moments become milestones when you've overcome cancer.

At Jefferson's Sydney Kimmel Cancer Center, if we had a marker for every patient we treated who is now cancer free, markers would be everywhere evidence that our personalized approach to cancer treatment is producing some of the highest survival rates in the nation. And that's a milestone for everyone. Jefferson, until every cancer is cured, give any more chips, Fellas, I'm sorry. If we were daydreaming about that VIP tailgate and game tickets, Yeah, that pregame sideline experience exactly. You

We talked about the defense briefly there before the break, where you know they did allow one hundred yards on the ground over a hundred yards at Jonathan Stewart. Again, very difficult rushing attack to defend.

The biggest thing that I liked was that they gave the offense a chance there in the fourth quarter, because that's the one of the things you wanted to see from this defense in the clutches. Could they come up with a key third down stop to give the offense one more possession with the ball, And they were able to do that. Unfortunately, offense just wasn't able to capitalize

and there were some plays there to be had. You look at that one third down to Miles Austin, where some might say it was an Aaron throw by Sam Bradford a little bit off target, but to me, Miles Austin, you gotta make that play. And it's not just Miles Austin. There were guys across the board who were not able to come up with key receptions throughout the course of the game. Credit Carrol Line with some you know, big pass defenses, especially in the red zone late in the

first half. You had the zach Ertz play where it could have been a touchdown, the window to him was cut up by Josh Norman. You had that one pass in the back of the end o to Jordan Matthews or he was forced out bounds. But still to me, though, you know, you need someone to step up and make a play in the clutch for the Heels offense. Yeah,

a difficult night for the wide receivers tonight. You know, it's been a tough season for them all year long, dropping passes, inconsistency with the quarterback at times, and tonight was the night where Sam Bradford appeared to be on his game, thrown with accuracy, thrown with velocity, just didn't have his guys come up with the catches for him when he needed him the most. And you know, you're gonna have the You're gonna have those type of nights.

But this is just a maturation process that this passing game is still evolving. Losing Jason Peters certainly didn't help out the calls. Sam Bradford under durest for a good portion of the night, but off for the most part. He stood in there and he delivered the throws with preciseness and with decisiveness. It just got to have help from his receivers by pulling his passes in. It seems like when a guy is open, the passage is a

little bit off target. But then when there's a tough throw to be made, Bradford throws it in there on the dime. The guys can't make the catch. It seems it's like frustrating thing or it's one or the other. Listen, the only time that I'll fought a quarterback want to throw is a little bit off is when he has a clean pocket. I mean that guy has four and five guys rushing at him. He has to read through a defense. It's very rare that he's going to get a clean pocket where he could just throw a ball

with PenPoint accuracy. So you may get a ball a little off. As long as it's in your catch radius, you should bring it in. I mean, this is the National Football League and your receivers sometimes have to pick your quarterback up. And I thought tonight Sam Bradford stood in the pocket with confidence. I thought he threw the ball with velocity, and I just didn't think his receivers helped him out of enough. You know, tight ends. Zach Ertz did a nice job to night. Miles Austin early

in the game was very good. Should have came up with that last row. With too many other guys just didn't help the quarterback out and he needed it tonight. Russian game, on the other hand, that was there for the Eagles and going into this matchup, but I thought that might have struggled a little bit with his stout. Caroline defense very good against both the run and the past. But that amazing defensive line yea KK short at the ANC Defensive Player of the Week. Luke Keickley and Thomas

Davis were simply phenomenal tonight. Anytime the Eagles tried to go to the outside, Thomas Davis or Keickley, one of them was tracking the ball down, able to stop it, but still the Eagle stuck to the run even though they were trailing throughout the course of the game, and Murray on the inside zone was able to get his yards, and Matthews, even he had a big touchdown, was still effective on the outside. I was almost surprised we didn't see more of him to try to get to the

edge tonight. Yeah. I think just the way the game sort of bomb played itself out, I thought. I I like the running game and the way they mixed both guys up pretty much throughout this game. You're talking about one hundred and seventy some yards rushing, obviously the big sixty plus yard for Ryan Matthews when you're throwing DeMarco Murray, who's a more pound guy, North South guy, physical, physical, bruising type of running back, and then you hit him

with a nice change up with Ryan Matthew. Ryan Matthews, I think the Eagles or were getting exactly what they want the last three weeks in the running game. It's just that the game sort of got out of hand to the point where they had to throw the ball just a little bit more than they wanted to the night. But the running game was working all right, So we're actually gonna break down the all twin two of two of Matthews runs, including the touchdown. They'll be done by

NFL Film senior producer Greg Cosell. A little bit later in the show, we're waiting to hear from the head coach, Chip Kelly. We also hear from quarterback Sam Bradford. I am breathing a little bit of a side of relief. I don't know if you're like, we don't know the severity of Jason Pierce injury, who was not able to finish the game after egg in the first half due

to the lower back injury. But I think everyone saw him go down, not be able to put any weight on his legs, and they thought that it was a severe achilles maybe which he had injured a couple of years ago, something to that nature. So it was somewhat good news here that was a back injury. I thought the offensive line did a pretty good job. Matt Tobin went over to left tackle and for the most part did a good job until that final drive or Jared Allen had the two sacks, and to me, I'm thinking

I thought Jared Allen was done. I thought that he wasn't able to produce anymore. He was required recently in the trade from Chicago because he wasn't as fit as they were going from a four three to a three to four scheme. Carolina losing Charles Johnson to the year due to injury. Greg Hardy is obviously at Dallas Cowboy.

Now they need someone to come off the edge, and Jared Allen was able to give him that little bit of a pass rush tonight, especially when he consider in the clutch situations that happened in Yeah, you those final two drives for the Carolina Panther defenses, which is what they wanted. They knew the Eagles weren't going to run the ball at all on those drives, and the defensive line can just pin in their ears back and basically just get out to Sam Bradford and nest with Jared Allen,

who's a borderline Hall of Fame defensive in. I mean, you think about the amount of probos he's made, the double digit sacks seasons he's had. That old dog can still hunt, and when you put him in a position where all he has to do is rush the passer, like those final two drives, he's gonna take advantage of a guy like Matt Tobin who doesn't have a lot of experience out there and left tackle putting a difficult

position having to go in there and play for Jason Peters. So, you know, but I thought for the most part, Sam Bradford had time to throw the ball prior to those final drives. It's just that when you become sort of predictable on offense like they were for those final two drives, where Carolina knew they had to throw the ball, and makes it a little more difficult for a young, inexperienced group to really pass protect when those guys are just

basically throwing fastballs that you're everywhere. So when you look at this team three and four go into the buy, I think the biggest thing is the self inflicted wounds. That's something that Chip Kelly has talked about time after time again. Some key penalties throughout the course of the game.

He saw some along with the offensive line. Lane Johnson had one on a third down conversion, Jason Kelsey had some upfront that you know, they were able not able to really force any penalties, or what I mean is Carolina didn't actually commit a penalty until late in the first half. It was Jordan Matthews was able to get the past interference. I got them in field goal range, but again they had to sell for three points and

not score a touchdown. So as the Eagles going to the buy, I think one of the thing the coaches are going to look at is what can they do to reduce these self inflicted wounds, so to speak. How can they clean up some of these mistakes, because they're just not a good enough team at this point to be able to overcome these type of mistakes, especially in a road game, an atmosphere as hyped as it was in Carolina tonight. Yeah, but it's got to be frustrating, Chris.

You know, for this coaching staff and after these players, you know, much time and effort that they put in to getting ready for these games. You see the players there, and I'm speaking particularly on the offensive side of the football in the passing game. That's where this offense seems to have the most issues in the passing game, whether it's the quarterback ben erratic at times, or the wide

receivers being inconsistent with catching the football. I look at this game to night, and I see plays that were wide open. I see play calls that were open. I mean there were receivers there. You got to catch the football, and are those are the things that will keep you up at night as a player and the coach. It's one thing if the play breakdowns and you never have

a chance to execute the play. But when the play is executed all the way up to the point of you not catching the football, I mean, those are the type of things that to give you sleepless nights an extra week before they get a chance to come back and play. When they look at these first seven games of the season, particularly on the offensive side of the football, there's a lot of frustration on that side of the ball because again, the plays are there to be made.

I mean they're there to be made. The players just had to start making. How frustrating is it for a team to go into the bye I'll loost like this. It's very frustrating. And believe me, I know a lot about losing before the bye week. I mean we lost a few games before. All right, we're saying it to Charlotte head coach of Kelly's press conference. I mean, I don't have an answer for why, but we did have

too many for us to be successful. I thought the same through the ball, well, um, through with authority, Knight. But uh, you know the drops obviously you know, hurt, hurt big time. You know, we gotta get again an answer for that. Why don't mine matches only have one carry after again? Deuces running the rotation. We talked to him some of it. We were calling past place. He was in there for a few passes. Um, but again well I don't know the exact numbers. Yeah, I think

it was eighteen eighteen six to sixteen. Yeah, so that you have to take over the situation like that you have and then we had him in there. It was just a lot there was. He was playing in the third and fourth quarter. There were just pass plays called

when he was in there. Soot on, you know, on the road undefeated, the votus, we feel like you still missed the opportunity for we do and not about making say we just missed an opportunity and won a football game, you know, and the self inflicted wounds, you know, the drops penalties, we had two procedural penalties. You know, we had to drive going. Then we get a hold, um, you know we hadn't pinned down inside. Uh, A little

good punt haven't pinned down inside of the the twenty. But then we got a penalty on the on the punt. Unnecessary penalty on the punt, you know. And you can't do that against a good football team like Carolina and then expect to beat him, you know. So he looked at the drive. I look at the drops and the penalties. Right now, we've got to clean up. We lay Josh Josh health on the spin picks. It was a screen that wasn't a swing a screen. So when we missed a block at the point of attack, we knew they

were gonna be a man coverage. If we get the first guy block, then we're bringing a couple of guys to block the guys that are covering Josh. So it wasn't the best play because if we get next kids shoot frustrating army starts for you, another starts half. Yeah. Again, like I said, we I go back to the drops and the penalties. I think other things that we have to clean up before we're gonna be a sucessful football team. Did you ever seen this from where he drops, it

seems like a lot of different guys. I think there's again, there are a lot of different guys so it's not just one guy. You can say, hey, this is the reason it's happening, and there's now they're shared across the board. So because the free turnovers today, three turners to day, and I'd be able to convert them as many times. Touch. Yeah,

we ended up and that's the thing we got. We talk about response after turnover, and we end up kicking two field goals instead of Um my defense did a good job of creating turnovers for us, but we got to turn those into seven not three. I'm sure you really wants but it looked pretty bad. He was being part at all. Yeah, that's what they said when I was on the field, and I don't know anything else besides that. I mean, I do think you all had a lot of warm after heem up. I thought they

were okay. You know, there's a obviously at the end I gave up, you know, critical when we're throwing it. That's when two of those sacks came. But I thought they battled. Um. But I think some of the things that burned us in the old line is procedural penalties. We gotta get those taken care of. One of the times the guard missed on the tap Lane's going off of the tap, but the guard missed. Lane saw him

move thanks to ball is going to be snapped. But we didn't hit the center so center as it snapped the ball. So I thought Sam did a nice job. I thought he threw the ball well. I thought he put the ball on people. We just got to catch it and help him out. We didn't back yeah, there was no yeah, and we need to point, you know, so you know at that point in time, you know, I wasn't thinking about punting it and pinning him down there and just he can hit from that distance. He

just I mean it's a little bit on the edge. Um, you know, he hit one, miss one, So okay, we still in the same situation. Feel better better. I thought it was a really nice field today, no wind um, there was a little committed in the air. He kicked the ball really well and warm ups so we felt like, you know, in talking to fit, he felt comfortable with it. So they didn't do better against the run, Yeah, we didn't. We didn't do a good job against the run game.

I thought that's one of the strengths of this defense. But we didn't do a good job and holding up against the run. Game. We knew coming into the game. They let the National Football League with thirty two USh attempts a game, and I think they had thirty three tonight. Um, you know in a couple of the draw that slide draw to Jonathan Early, you know for the big game hurt us and the reverse hurt us. Um, you know, those are two big ones that I think add to

the statistics. But they we have to have contain on those plays and we got to be in our right gaps, in the right fit. So now I mean the reverse, but I mean, we just gotta stay home on the backside and we're not gonna make a playing on the front side. But um, I think that was the only play that we hadn't seen going in. But I mean everybody usually has a reverse in their offense. You can

kind of another considered challenging on that play. Yeah, they told me when I asked them that that there was no they never saw the ball out and that when they got to the bottom of the pile that both players had the ball, so it was dual possession. It wasn't our guy had it at the end, but they had already told him he was down and that it was it was Carolina ball, so there was no way. You know, I'm talking to the officials, they said that there was a way that was going to be overturned.

And again on that one, I didn't I want her to whistle him. You know, it was just kind of a scrumb pile and I don't know if us it was blowing, but we couldn't hear him from our sideline, so you couldn't tell when the momentum was stopped. You know, they said the momentum was stopped, and then that becomes I don't know if you can get that, And then from the people we had upstairs, they couldn't tell either, So a couple drops. No, I mean, I haven't found

that in the past. I think hopefully some guys can step up and make a play after that, you know, I know they happened in a game. Obviously, everybody makes mistakes, so um, and I don't think it's a contagious things. But drive she hadn't really said or whatever big that was really neat. Yeah, it's something that it's you know that really the moment, we just gotta we gotta stop them. We gotta be better on that. On that on that

first straw the first starve in the Giants game. Obviously we settled down after that and the first time tonight, you know we I thought they settled down a little bit after that. But I think obviously we gotta we had to come out of gates better playing ready to play more better than that. I have to look at the film. I just know I know it from my advantage point. I didn't really know what hit it in the hands, but I don't know if he would have been down in bounds or not, so I can't tell

you that this or no you see there. I thought the ball hit him in the hands. It's on the far sideline, so I don't know exactly where if his feet were going to be in or anything. But I thought it was a pretty good throw. By saying don't I think it's fundamental since I still the tuck, I mean thinking sure we securely secure the catch, you know, before we're trying to run. I mean, there's a lot of different things to it, but it's just something you have to work on. It's no different than missing a

block and missed up them with your feet. But um, obviously too many tonight against a really good football. Thank you all. Right, there's head coach Chip Kelly addressing the media in Charlotte following the egels twenty seven to sixteen loss to the Panthers, So kind of just recapping his press conference. Forcing turnovers, Eagles did a good job at three interceptions on Cam Newton. Panthers overall been good taking

care of the football this season. Down on the run defense, that was their hallmark, their calling card come into this game. Mentioned Jonathan Stewart went over one hundred yards on the ground. They weren't able to stop them in some key points Offensively, the drops again another downer along with the penalties, but he was happy with the performance of Sam Bradford. Basically, I think getting to your point night that the players are there, it's the guys around him aren't making enough

plays to help support him. Yeah, at least that was the case for no for this game. You Know, the thing about this offense this year, and the frustrating part is that it hasn't been the same issue weekend and week out. Week It was protection one weekest receivers catching the ball the next week. Is the quarterback being erratic at times, needing needing more time to be comfortable. It's

just something different weekend and week out. But I thought Sam tonight, I thought Sam Tonight played well all right, So we're gonna send it back to Carolina to hear from the quarterback himself, Sam Bradford sat drops out there? What are you seeing with what was going on at different set? The drops? Um we talked about before that happened. I mean, obviously, you know, we don't like to see them. You know, it's obviously not good for us, but they happen.

You know, you just got to move on and keep going. You know, just because someone drops the ball. I don't lose any confidence in anyone out there. I've got confidence in everyone. You guys did some good things tonight, but not enough. But that's sort of some of this or the season. It's a little high, h Yeah. I mean

I think inconsistencies probably the word that comes to mind. Um. You know, I think we've shown flashes in about every game of moving the ball and doing things well and um running the offense the way that we want to. But then there's other times, whether it be you know, a various assortment of self inflicted wounds. Um, we just kill ourselves and it just happens too often, Sam, your defense got some turnovers and you guys weren't really in

with Catalytic getting touchdowns. How big is that? Not could touchdowns after a game, huge game like this. Um, you know, we knew it was gonna be a battle, and we knew it was going to come down to the fourth quarter. Obviously, if we could have converted you know, a couple of those field goals into touchdowns. Um, you know, the game might be a little bit different when you re Savers dropped the ball? Is it about it what you play the game? Is it ything? No? Are you on those

drafts like that? You know, I think I'd have to go back and look at the tape. Um. I don't know if Justice J came out. Um. You know, we try to run our stuff, but obviously when you lose someone like JP, Um, you know, it affects what you're able to do. Same with these starts. I mean, for these seven games this year, do you guys have a word touchdown in diverse half? Even lost of bad which

is actually guys, Um, it's definitely not helping us. Um. You know, we'd love to be able to come out and start fast, you know, put points on the board. But for whatever reason, you know, we seem to be hurting ourselves, um, you know, and not doing that. You get point what the issues are the things and say other, I mean other than it's the obviously drops. Um. You know, like I said a minute ago, I think there's a

lot of different self inflicted wounds. Um. You know, whether it be a drop, a bad pass, a penalty, Um, you know, things that set us back, and we're not able to overcome those. What happened the problem, Well, they tackled us before we got the first down. I mean, you know, we thought it was a good call. Um. You know, I'm not sure. I imagine coach out there were probably gonna heat us up and that we could get out there and get the ball in the perimeter quickly. Um.

But you know they made a good play. You know, se linebackers were all over today. There weren't many shots down the field. Is that a matter of play calling? You're just you not liking what he saw. Um. You know, we kind of knew coming into this game that they wanted to keep everything in front of them. Um. So you know, I think our plan as a whole was to attack underneath Tonight, Ryan Matti down run kind of things. You know. Well, first of all, where did you see

on that plane second ball? Did you think that will cut the bad? Yeah? Absolutely, it was a great run. Um, I mean he was moving out there. Yeah. I'm not sure anybody was that fast when he took off through that hole. But you know, it was a great run and I really felt like that was going to kind of get us jump started. Um. But I think it

brought some energy, but we weren't able to capitalize. I think we got the ball back after a turnover, um the next possession, you know, and settle for a field goal. Have you seen enough bad at this team so far to know a him day that he will be hard good enough to they directed by league? Um. You know, I think when we play the way we're capable of, then yes, I feel like we're capable of beating anyone. But we have got to eliminate the mental errors. This

help and flint good wounds. We've got to stop beating ourselves, you know. I think if we can stop beating ourselves, you know, and not have to beat only us but the other team. Um, you know, I think we'll be all right. Is a good time for a break, just sort of stop the set rolling downhill to take a step back. Yeah, I think so. Still frustrating that. Yes, all right, there's quarterback Sam Bradford addressing the media and Carolina following the team's twenty seven to sixteen loss at

the hands of the Panthers. The Heals are now three and four. They sit tied for second place in the Anac East. As you saw on that schedule graphic there, they have the buy coming up coming up, and they have the two and four Dallas Cowboys who lost to the New York Giants today. Uh, they'll be at Dallas, so another tough MSCs matchup, But that's what they need to do to get things back on track and once again try to climb out of another hole that they've

dug for themselves. So I'm actually gonna have a reason for optavism, Mike, Okay, we're gonna get to that. We're after the break this fall at Dunkin Donuts. Get lost in Pumpkin, pick up your favorite pumpkin flavored beverages and baked treats like the new Pumpkin Cheesecake Square. While they're still here, America runs, I'm Dunkin I sept to Philly. Brooke Montgomery, I never go anywhere without my Baba Peck John Hill, No Babba Peedick Love. The Eagles play the new instant game from

the Pennsylvania Lottery. Players must be eighteen or older. Please play a responsibloy. Welcome back to the postgame show presented by Rico here on Philadelphia Eagles dot Com. All right, like a little bit of optimism, go into the byway character. You don't seem like you're believing it. You don't seem like you'll lay it on you. So last year the Eagles beat up the Panthers on My Night Football. They were seven and two at that point, a blowout win.

Mark Sanchez had a great star. He was remember he was off Iam Chief Steaks down South Phili. After the game, everyone was was happy. It can be the Panthers were demoralized, demolished. They came out of that game with a three six and one record. Well, which of the two teams end up making the playoffs? Hey, there's not only made the playoffs, they actually won a game, being the Arizona Cardinals before

losing to Seattle Indivisional round of the playoffs. Now it doesn't mean that the Eagles will make the playoffs, but nonetheless, though the Eagles are in position the NFC East, no one is running away with it. They've already beaten the NFC East League giants at this point, so they're in the hunt. But certainly this was the type of game where you could have erased all the bad memories, the bad taste of that O and two start, the one and three start, gotten that all out of the way,

and had good vibrations going into the break. The fresh rating about this loss going into the barweek is he thought the Eagles were starting to build a little bit more minium. You know, you knocked off the New Orleans Saints at home, you beat the Giants at home on Monday night. You figure if you get this game going into the bye week, you got a three game winning Street Cowboys coming after the bodye week, got a couple

other winnable games after that Cowboy game. This looked like the Eagles had the opportunity to get to get some momentum going in their favor. And you know, it's it's a hiccup, it's a step backwards. But they get the bodye week, they have a very winnable game against the Dallas Cowboys, albeit it's in Texas, so you gotta go down there and beat those guys. But they still won't

have Romo and possibly Davis Bryan back for that game. Now, the Eagles need to clean their own house first and foremost, so you know, I know, we spent a lot of time looking at the nfcast and big picture wise, yes, the Eagles are still in it, but let's be frank, I mean seven to nine, eight and eight is that really a team going into the playoffs for anyone to be excited about. Of course, with the exciting that they get in there, but I mean eight and eight because

you win this division doesn't get everybody pumped up. I mean, we need this team to go on about a three or four week run where they can put some wins together, playing their best football in the month of December heading into July. Just need to get all the little things ironed out over this bye week. What's gonna be that spark. I think that's the biggest question for this team. The defense has been great for the most part in the first part of the season, the first half up until

his point. The run defense, i'll be tonight, you know, notwithstanding has been outstanding. Butcher Cox and Bey Logan very start up front. The back end of that defense, look, one of the biggest questions coming into this season was a safety position, and Malcolm Jenkins had the phenomenal diving interception. Walter Thurman has been outstanding as a starter alongside Jenkins. You look in the middle of that defense, they got

Kendricks back tonight and he made some plays. You got Jordan Hicks, the third round pick, who has been an absolute fine for the Eagles to this point of this season. Really in some ways, I think Great Cosell, who will hear from and just a little bits called him the savior of the defense because of all the injuries to Kendrick's, Kiko Alonso and even Demiko Ryans, who is not able to play tonight. So the Eagles have some great things going on defense. It's the offense where you say, okay,

the offensive line started to gel, Well, Jason Pierce gets hurt. Well, you have some pieces on the perimeter. You know, obviously Nelson Agilore has been hurt, but you need Jordan Matthews to clean up the catches, you need Miles Austin to clean up the drop issue. There the running game that seems like that's gotten going, it's coming, that's come along. It's the passing game. So the passing out when you

look at this, look at the running game. If the Eagles have going, I mean, and this is going to help the Eagles passing game, their play action, their rollouts, things of that nature. I mean, Ryan Matthews and DeMarco Murray along with Darren Sprows. They're starting to get a little momentum going here. The offensive line is starting to block wellness, cohesiveness being built amongst those five guys up front. I know Jason Peters got banged up the night. Hopefully

he's back in a couple of weeks. I like when I'm saying from the running game, I mean, it's gonna be a tricky thing each week for Chip Kelly and Duke Stalley, the running backs coach to play that hot hand to feed whichever one of these running backs has it going. And I know DeMarco Murray's yards per average

aren't they great for tonight? But I like the fact that you're able to give him the ball in between the tackles for those tough yards, and then you bring in Ryan Matthews and he's able to break the big one out there for you. So whichever guy who has the hot hand, I feel confident going with either guy. I just like the fact that the running part of

the game is now being implemented into this offense. They just need to get the receiver and quarterback tandem together, get get those guys together the way they can catch the football and throw the football. All right, So, speaking of the run game, the big spark for the Eagles came in the third quarter. Ryan Matthews what up the middle for a sixty three yard touchdown. However, was that actually the design of the play. Let's bring an NFL Film senior producer Greg ho Sell, who breaks down the

all twenty two of matthews career long touchdown run. The zone run game is critical to the Eagles offense, and their first touchdown against the Panthers came with outside zone, not inside zone, and it was Ryan Matthews. Matthews is looking to work outside here is why it's outside zone. But the way the play developed it became a different kind or run. Let's clear the screen and see what happens. So let it run right here, frees it. Look what happens.

Great vision by Matthews, because what does he see? He sees Keekley the linebacker right here, flowing hard to the outside zone run action. So what does Matthews do? He cuts it back up inside. This requires patience and vision. Let's clear the screen and watch as Matthews takes it inside to empty space and now does a great job of making Kirk Colemans in space outruns Keekly. This was the Eagles first touchdown of the game, an outside zone run,

beautifully executed by Ryan Matthews. Thank you very much, Greg, outstanding analysis and insight into that touchdown run. Ike some final thoughts, says the Eagles going to the bye with a three and four record. Well, you're almost at the halfway mark. A little disappointing sitting under five hundred and three and four right now. But you get the bye week, you get the month of November, favorable schedule, You're gonna get guys back healthy. I think the Eagles should look

for a big second half. Sam Bradford, I saw signs the night of a guy who's starting to play with a lot of confidence. You from Washington play over the last couple of games. Had a tough interception night off the hands of Jordan Matthews. Really not Sam Bradford's fault on that play, but I liked what I saw out

of Bradford the night. If he can can continue at the second half of the season, and these young receivers, including the Vechean's, the old dogs, Miles Austin and Roley Cooper whom we didn't hear from tonight, those guys need to step up in the second half so that Sam can continue to have confidence when he throws the ball out there, because the plays are there to be made. Certainly Cooper was active, didn't seem like he was out there a whole lot on the field tonight. Again, defense

allowed great things to build upon the offense. I agree with you, Sam Bradford statting tall in the pocket in the face of that panther's pass rush, good decision making, encouraging signs there, and Chip Kelly saying that he liked waste off from Bradford. It's the guy's got to step up around him. So I think from a health standpoint, the buys coming at perfect time for the Eagles. You get Peters some rest, maybe Kiko Alonso, maybe he gets a little further along and he's able to come back.

Damiko Ryans can come back as well, and then you have this team intact for the second half, which again the schedule sets up nicely for them. They get DALs, so they get an MC East revenge match right out of the bye. You get winnable games against Miami, Tampa Bay, Buffalo, Detroit for Thanksgiving, and then you get those three games in a row at home, so certainly it sets up nicely.

And then the end the season with a back to back NFC East matchups with Washington and the New York Giants there in Week seventeen, so there's a lot of football left to be played in As we've seen from this team before you go back to the two thousand and sixth season, it was a game against Carolina Panthers.

We highlight this during the Kickoff Show. It was a win over Carolina that sparked a five game win streak to end the regular season that propelled Jeff Garcian company into the playoffs, and they were able to win the wildcard round over the New York Giants. So that's gonna pretty much wrap it up for us here on the
