Good morning, morning morning, mister Peters. What's the latest time on rbal Darby's injury. Um, well, this is something we're gonna We're gonna gather a little bit more information on this. We haven't um talking with our doctors and and uh and Paduzzi. We need to get some more information on it before we make a full statement on it. You can't go. Is the plan to bump up or soul to bump up? C J? Smith? What are kind of a continuency? Yeah, we'll look at that this week too.
You know, we do have um, obviously results sitting there and and uh, um CJ. You know obviously, but uh, you know, we'll look at it, talk with Schwartz in the next couple of days. I have a plan. Um, if you can't go, then then possibly result. What about Jason Peters and Caleb Sturgeon. Caleb is in the same with with Ronald. We're gonna get some more information on him before we make a full statement and then and
with Jason Peters will be day to day. Some kickers, uh this week, just in case, just in case, Yes, when you were your running game when Carson was on a center, You're to open up a running game a little bit more and seeing the hope the play action as well. Was that body design going into the game or did it in the full as a game of fo Yeah, it's it's something that we looked at, Uh, you know in the off season for our offense. Um, Carson a little more under center. Um, I think it does,
especially on first and second down. Uh, run game, play action pass so you know, we got our big chunks in the passing game came off of that. So those are things that we'll continue to look at as we go. Uh, Carson under he's also comfortable under center as well. Um, but uh, but we gotta we gotta be careful as far as uh, you know what we're doing under center. So it's not an indicator to to our teams. There was a there was a report on NFL Network that
four to six weeks for for Derby. Are you saying that that's I have Well, obviously before this I haven't seen that yet. Uh, just talking with our doctors, were gathering more information before we make a full statement. What did you see from rasseul Um? Do you feel like if he is up that he's ready for Yeah, I mean he you know, he's put himself in a good position. I thought he he came out of camp better than than he improved from from OTA's into training camp. He improved,
So I got a lot of confidence in him. Uh, if if that's the direction we go on defense couples, you weren't able to connect with him. I wasn't. But yeah, but what does that do to the mindset of the quoting defense even if you're not connecting on those places, but they see that. Yeah, you know, it's it just goes without without saying. I mean, you've got to take those those opportunities. You gotta you gotta take those shots,
you know. And you just see sometimes when you're when you're maybe you're struggling offensively or or um maybe you're not moving the ball something like that, the run game's not really clicking, defenses begin to kind of crowd the box and you start seeing more eight and nine guys sometimes around the box, and and you know, we've got to we've got to continue to take shots and and and do that. And we had them, we had them
there yesterday. They you know, we got in behind the defense a little bit and and just miss so um it and then by doing that, it just shows you can. Number one, you can do it offensively, but two, um it backs them up just a little bit more and it opens up some other things underneath. You're only ran the ball to all times in the first three quarters, and I think the running backs average two point eight yards pro tempt. What do you have to do to
get better than it? Is it a matter of just sticking it out and and even if it's not working, running the ball more or what do you need to do to get more balancing and give them time? Yeah, obviously at the end of the day, it's not good enough. You know, the running game is not good enough. We pride ourselves on on running the football here, and we've got backs in linemen and tight ends really and that
can help us do that. And you know, watching the film last night on on the way home and then again this morning, a couple of times, we're just we're close. We're close. I mean, we just have to finish blocks, sustained blocks. There's uh, there were a couple and this is always happens going into week one. There's always a few unscouted defensive looks that they present that that gave us some problems. Early UM made made the corrections during the game, and um, you know had some success later
in the game on some of the same runs. So it's close. We gotta keep detailing. I keep working it, um, and just just continue to get better getting back along the feet balls. Um. Carson worked a lot on that this all season. As to the offense, looking at the film over some of the things that were that weren't clicking. He underthrew one man, he overthrew well the first play of the game was was his front foot slipped and he couldn't get everything on it, so it was a
little underthrown, um. And so because of that, in the back of your mind as a quarterback, you said, the next time I get that opportunity, I don't want to underthrow it. So that was the reason for the overthrow. But obviously he made the great scramble deep throw on the run to uh to Nelson early third down play for the for the touchdown. And then and then a couple of times all Shan, you know, we had a couple he had his hands on the ball a couple of times right before on one and then and then
later in the game. So you know, Um, we just gotta keep keep keep drilling it, keep working it, um, keep throwing it, and um, you know, uh, it's different from practice than than game. Obviously game speeds a lot different, but these are plays that our guys definitely need to make. Mention. You mentioned with the run game, the blocking and you
certain guys assignment handling their assignments. Do you feel that it was and I know the run game is about the blockers and the running backs, but did you feel like it was more on the blocking than the backs or I think I think it's it's shit. It's a shared Um, you know, it's a it's shared responsibility. Some of it's the running back hitting the hole exactly where we would we need it, and then other times it's
just sustaining blocks and combo blocks. We do a lot of you know, zone schemes in this offense, so it's just it's a timing thing too. So those are things we continue to work on each week and and get better. The guys will look at this film and see the see the good and the bad, and obviously fix it and move forward to get away from the a little
earlier than would probably be ideal. Yesterday, you know, it was funny because in the middle of the part of the game, I felt like we were going backwards just a little bit. We had some negative we had some sacks, we had negative rushing plays, we had some penalties in there, and so it felt like, yeah, probably a little bit
felt like we were getting away from it. But at the same time, we've got to do better on first and second down to stay positive so that we can continue to run the ball a little later, to get some timing from rhythm going Yeah, you're so short of tackle can chase house the week you've been Have you given any consideration to moving Isaac out there and maybe plugging stuffing in a card? No, but those are all
considerations based on what we did last year. Um. You know, with the Baltimore game, having Isaac out there, obviously you know a big v I thought stepped in and you know, um, with really limited reps, it tackled during the week. Um, you know, did did well? You know did well? Was a perfect no. Um, So those are those are conversations we'll have these next couple of days. Can feel. What's your sense of how Andrecks graded out? He seemed to
make himself apparent on the opportunities he got. Michael, Yeah, I thought, he thought, he again, you know, sort of uh kind of picked up where he where he left off in training camp. Had had a solid game. Um, you know, was was around the ball, flying around close to the quarterback a couple of times. I mean, it's just it's just Michael and um, I thought, I thought, overall, Um, pretty good, pretty good day for him. You know, he's
getting he's getting comfortable in the scheme. Went against the blitz. Was that a point of emphasis during the off season heading into year two? And what did you see went against the blitz? Against the blitz? And was that a point of emphasis for for you guys heading into year two? And what did you see? Yeah, well, you know, as again, it was an emphasis on on our part as coaches to make sure that we um present you know, in the off season, um, and spend time working the blitz.
Again yesterday first game of the year, there was there were there were a couple of un scouted blitzes that that what picks. There were pick stunts and they pick our guard and rapid tackle and got us early in the game. And and um, you know those are things that we can we get. We just got to see everything, you know, and and put our guys in that position.
Carson's got to see it. And um, you know there were some times too yesterday where where he could have he could have, you know, maybe made a quicker throw, get the ball out of his hand. Those are things that he'll continue to get better at, um, and then we'll get better in the protection as well. Yesterday was well, actually the second play of the game after the shot was actually designed to go to uh seventeen, and what
happened was twenty four. Josh Norman actually played on his outside hip and took away the post corner that we had called, so that was played. Number two was actually
designed for seventeen. And then just really as the game unfolded, Um, you know, I was I was trying to be real conscious of of trying to I don't want to say forcing balls, but trying to get seventeen involved getting eighty two, involved getting eighty six involved along with the runners, and um, you know, once once we got seventeen, a couple of touches, uh, and then he made another big catch late in the game to really end the two point conversion, which was huge.
So um, he did exactly what we had asked him to do. And then we'll continue to grow. Conversion was because a lot because of Caleb at that situation. Um, I just didn't uh, I didn't feel comfortable. Um. You know again, obviously he had to kick off after that, but I wanted to just limit limit the number of number of kicks he have to just I mean, did you have to go to him just gut it out for the kickoff? Would we think about Donnie Donnie in
that situation. No, just he was he was okay to to gut it out on that on that last kick, and that's why it was a mortar or sky kick in that situation. Um. And so but yeah, he'd admiraal job of finishing that game. What happened? Yeah, yeah, it was. It was early in the game. Um, and it's just uh,
it's it's lower body as hip. So we just again, we just got to get more information and we'll have something probably full you you guys, it seemed like Patrick Robins and Jane will Watkins played well when when Darby went out, allowed Jim to keep up blitzing, keep pressure. If this is a long haul thing, not having Ron Darby,
you're gonna face Tyreek hill Odell Beckhama Fee's back. Is it going to be a little bit more problematic though, to to be as aggressive as you want when you face those kind of guys, those speed guys, well, those guys are always going to give you problems. You know, they're they're tough to defend, you know, speed guys, quick, shifty guys. And you know, um, you know we're we're we're as we look at it, you know, if you know, if if Result's in there, if Jalen's in there, Watkins
is in there. Um, you know, try to keep Patrick Robinson um possibly at the Nickel spot as much as we can. I think it's beneficial for guys to learn one spot. And he's been comfortable in there. Can he get you out of a game at corner? Yes he can. He did it yesterday a little bit. Uh and then and then uh, you know with the three safeties that we have, obviously we know Malcolm can can play nicol
and then Corey Graham comes into game. So yeah, it's gonna be you know, um, it's gonna be one of those situations where it's gonna take all hands on deck, you know, these next few weeks to to uh to to really get the job done. If they would targeting there, they were really going to try to attack you. Yeah, teams are gonna look at it, and and uh, you know they're gonna study your Tennessee are gonna get injuries obviously, and and uh you know as we do and try
to focus on those spots with the report. In respect to uh, the Jim Schwartz, did you feel the need to to clear the air and where does that stand? No, I did not. I mean Jim and I have always had a great relationship and and um, you know it was Um it's I don't want to tell you. I mean Jim and I have always had a great relationship and and um um even yesterday. You know, the communications always there. Um, we we talked quite a bit actually during the week. And um, I love his enthusiasm. I
love his swagger. I think our defensive guy's feed off of that. You know, most decordinators I've ever been around have that and and and he's no different. And that's what I one of the things I like about Jim and the fact that he has it and his guys are the guy's feed off of that, and that's the way they play. You lose guys like Darby and Jason Peters drating course of the game and stuff, and how how are you as coaches, you know, able to adjust on the fly, you know, the way he did. Do
you change anything at all? You the next man up mentality? I mean that's always been that way. And uh, you know, you might make subtle adjustments initially for a play or two or a series, but then once you have time to sort of digest what's going on, you say, you know what this is. Okay, now, Big V, you're going in. You got it. You know. JP tried to come back and finish and and uh then we said, hey, big V,
you take it. You know, in the same way on defense. Obviously, Darby was a different situation because he came out immediately, um, and and we made it work. And it's just always been the next man mentality, you know, in those situations. What do you think it'll be like this week? I mean, nobody knows Avy like you do. What do you think that'll be like down there? Yeah, it'll be it'll be fun. It'll be fun to see him over there, big Red
on the other side. Um, you know, But at the same time I know that that he wants to kick my tail and I want to kick his and uh um, you know, listen, Andy Reid teams are well prepared as we know, and uh you know, we got to do the same thing this week. We just got to be ultra prepared. That's a tough place to play now, I mean it is a loud, loud place and and we've got to be able to handle that crowd noise. We've got to do it through communication, nonverbal communication, all of that.
It's got to be on point this week in practice. But um, it'll be fun. It'll be fun to get out there. But again, once we once we tee it up and kick it off, it's all about it's all about the business and all about the game. Can you give your team your team about playing in that type of environment that right there, Just it's tough, it's loud, it's uh um, it's a it's a great atmosphere for the fans are right on top of your. Arrowhead Stadium is right on top of you, and uh um, it's
a great place to play. The biggest thing you learned in all your years around Andy from him consistency, being honest, being open, being fair with the players. Um, teaching, coaching, Um, probably the biggest things. Um and just uh, you know, I think it's the attention to detail that that he uh he uh has with his players and his coaches. And that's some of the big biggest things I've learned from him. Just who was that supposed to be a hord passed? Agogue was Carson supposed to hold it a
little longer? Supposed to? Yeah, just a little little Again, it was a it was a it was a run, a design run, and then that was just an advantage throw. And um, it looked on film Nelson was a little bit deeper than uh, than he should have been obviously because it was a lateral. But uh, um, you know, in practice during the week, that's uh, that was never the case. So we had to just clean those things up. Thanks Gay,
