About he's rolling that. But is there ever a point where you need to overrule him or take take it at your own No, No, not at all. I think Douce does a great job. Because Ryan was hurt yesterday and so when I talked to Deuce about it, and we talk about it all the time. As Ryan Hurd is growing on a twenty two yard run before he broke the long run and really couldn't go, so Deuce's monitor him on the sideline what he could do and
what he couldn't do. So I think Deuce does a great job with those guys, and I have full trust Induce doing that. So heard him Rose hurt himself on the twenty two yard run. Yeah, if you watch him, he kind of pulled by when he pulled by Keiklely, he said he felt it again, he didn't think he was gonna make it in the end zone. So and then Deuce monitor him after that. So Deuce is dealing with that in terms of whether he can't go in the game after that or can't go in the game
after that. We used him a little bit, but you know that's really the whole status of the whole thing. So I'll tell you guys, exactly what's going on that wipe the Matthew's out there warm? I mean yeah, I talked to Deuce on the headset all the time and he just said I got him. So I'm good with it.
Outside of that growing injury though, did the overall sable size is that Matthews has said thirty two Pewer cars and more yards and as mark and he's been hurt the last two weeks, so he was questionable going into the Giants game. Uh, and then he got hurt again last night. So outside of injury, do you feel like he needs to have a bigger role and they'll just deal with the present case. He's injured right now and we'll see if he'll be available for the Cowboys game.
So how did Kendricks players? Michael was okay. I think a little rusty, you know, just because of the lack of reps in terms of seeing things king and diagnosing. He's obviously once he recognizes that can take off, can go made some plays, you know, I had a sack um all the things we expect out of Michael. We just need to get him back into the flow, more practice time and more reps so that when he gets
out there, he's back back back. One of the issues at a wide receiver are those related to always were concent free. I don't think it's talent. I just think it's a you know, sometimes a concentration issue with some of those guys. And I think sometimes they may actually be thinking too much, you know, and uh instead of just relaxing and going to play. Someone need to just take a big deep breath and do what we know
they can do. And they've made some big time catches in games for us and can continue to do that for us. But I think sometimes they're overthinking it a little bit. The talent level at that position is said back in Yeah, why broker only come three pass me? On twenty hours? Pen and coverage expressed itself. They're playing again a lot of top down coverage. Uh, safeties were
high over the top, weren't giving us anything there. Um, So it really just kind of how people are playing us, pending on week to week, who's playing in what they're doing to you. So playing the safeties were deep in both sometimes it was two. They do a good job shoun as, a good job mixing coverage as we saw both two three man. You know they were very very but all the man's were man freeze or twenty two man. We saw a lot of that, so usually there was
some help over the top of those situations. You trouble the funny space, well, there was no space deep on that. Not when you have safeties over the top of everything, you're just gonna throw it, throw it up for the sake of throwing it up. That doesn't really work. One of the previous vis singer and evaluate everything, person out coaching the same things. Time sort of changes coming out of it by here. No. I mean, I've told our guys after the game, I think we're a good football team.
We just we need to clean things up, you know. I think we had two procedural penalties that that that hurt drives. You know. We had a first down that was called back because we had no legal procedure. We had to hold uh two uncharacteristic special teams penalties that we normally don't get. One of them, we had the ball pinned on the fair catch on the twelve yard line, but now the drive gets out and starts in the
twenty seven because we have an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Um. We had two encroachment penalties, which we haven't had in our d line. I think they've been very disciplined. So um, you know it's again it's it's uh are close, But when you're playing a really good football team like Carolina, close isn't good enough. You gotta you gotta started, stop getting in your own way and uh and stop stopping yourselves. It should be even when you're winning games and doing well,
you want to clean things up. But now at three and four, how much more cleaning can there be? Is it's just it's every week because every week it's a battle, you know, or right in the middle of everything, and so is in everybody else. So it's it's literally a one game season. As you keep going and did you do good enough to win on on Sunday or or did you lose on Sunday? And then you assess it, take a look at the film, make the proper corrections,
and then get ready play your next opponent. You know, we had two drops uh that hurt us. You know, we were down in there. We had another one where we we threw it over the top. We caught it, but we couldn't get second foot down, you know. So it's a little bit different story, Um, if we do catch us, but we didn't execute the way we need to execute in those situations, and we gotta come away with seven stead of come in sead of coming away
with threes. What can you guys do the help eliminate some of those drops would be different reps, different different drills and practice when you get that, Yeah, fundamental stuff. You know. I think with some of those guys again, I said, I think sometimes they're probably thinking too much. You know, Jordan's a guy that that's I don't know anybody catches more balls during the week than him. I mean, he's here at seven a. I'm working on the jugs machine.
So uh, sometimes I think he just overthinks and he's just take a deep breath and go play because he's got outstanding hands and then uh has been a very clutch receiver for us. So but no, not that they gave it five sacks. The poster hand seventy seven yards on the ground. See, you know, Covid, I thought those guys competed. You know, two of those sacks were late in the game, and it's you know, we're we're down two scores and we're throwing and everybody in the stadium
knows we're throwing, you know. So, um I didn't put a whole heck of a lot onto those two. But um I thought buying large. They fought, Uh, they competed against a good front. That short is a really good football player. And I said, the two best linebackers that will face that can run sideline to sideline. But um I thought overall, especially after losing Jason, you know, and then Tobin's got to go from right guard where he's really been training out to left tackle, and Dennis has
got to step in. I thought those guys competed and played well basically no more linebacker. No, yeah, because Marcus came back, so just reps in practice. Um you know, were and especially and we've lost we had lost a couple of defensive linemen, so we had to shuttle on back. We lost said and Taylor um for an extended period there, and then we lost brand embarrassed. I mean, he's kind
of back inside at the D line. Now, what about that combination did you like in that situation, did you think about using a different No, I mean, you only have seven guys active on game day, so the only only guy available to us was Josh Andrews. So, um, you know Tobin is the backup left tackle. UM. If if we were to you know, to get through a game. Um, and then Dennis comes in a card. So that's just kind of how we do things reverse. You just get your cap to them and making a good call at
the right time. Or did was there was there somebody that WI will pursue whatever. Now, I mean, we should have had contained on the back side. The ball should never get back outside of us on that side, you know, the side where the ball went away from originally. You know, we got to kind of contain it and force it back to our help. And that was where our biggest breakdown in that play was. After the game sounded like you put the ball where he do on this shraps
get the film from. Yeah, I mean I think we had you could argue two of them, but we had at least eight, could have been ten, um and and that's that. Obviously we're not gonna win if for doing that, you know what I mean, there's too many for us to to We got to be able to sustain things and we gotta be able to make catches out there. So I didn't hear it. Those fancies our ball through seniors. In our opinion, Yes, would you ever tell guys not
not through the jugs machine as much? Not yet? You know, maybe back off and just go, you know, to catch. I don't know anybody that when you talk about overthinking, I mean, I don't know if there's a way to you know, just do it too, Just go out there and do too much, and it's always on your mind that I've been dropping the balls and dropped the balls. Yeah. I think they'll get away a little bit this week. I mean, that's part of being on a bye week.
So um, I expect them all to come back on next Tuesday when a good frame of mind ready to go and play the Cowboys. Do you feel like if you have guys that get drawn, Yeah, I mean Darren draws a double team every time he's in there, So um, I don't think you need to dry anybody needs to dry anything. I mean, we didn't. Doesn't that take somebody?
Doesn't that over the field for other guys? Yeah, I guess so, I mean, but we never had anybody else that drew double teams that receiver, so I don't, I don't. I mean, it's it's still single coverage. So I don't think no one just doesn't not cover someone else. So, hey, we're gonna double this guy but not cover someone else. So even if they do double one person, the other guys still have single coverage that they have to get open. So I don't think us not having a guy that
got doubled last night was any issue. I mean, I think we had guys open. We didn't catch the ball. Is single coverage because they don't see it covered. Yeah, but I don't. I don't, so I'm unsure of I don't understand a lot of questioning what do you what do you need to I don't understand what you want us to do you okay on that level? Word doesn't that. Yeah, but we haven't had that here in my three years, so everybody's been single covered and got When guys have
opportunity to make plays, they need to make plays. I think we had guys open last night. I don't think that was an issue in terms of guys not being opened. I think it was a guy we didn't We didn't do a good job of securing to catch it. I was a being charge personnel change players. I don't think it's changed it at all because I was in charge of the fifty three man roster the last two years. Signing I'm responsible for the ninety. That's the only real difference,
I think. Yeah, so it is different. I was responsible to who we bought the camp. Now i'm responsible for the fifty three also, so I was always responsible for the fifty three. You decided that you're going to get to Marco Marie his contract? Is that, Gene? How you you're going to utilize running backs? No? Not at all. In two thirteen, I think you had the guys here for a training session before the bye week. Is that correct? No?
I don't think so. So I was wondering why you are the same schedule we had last year, but but not two years ago. So so, so what we need? Not thinking of giving them a full week? I don't recall that we didn't bring them back the other day. I think maybe they came in and lifted. So you said weeks here Lee Johnson could be used as left tackle, and it sounds like it's going to be okay. But it's just the time that maybe to get him ready just in case you need him a left tackle, you know,
just these two weeks. So they're off this week, So yeah, so it's not an experiment. We'll just see who's available when we get back together next Tuesday. So's he getting any reps left back practice? No? I mean he's getting reps with the ones at right tackle. So we're not gonna when when our twos go in lane can't go over at the twos and play left tackle, or he wouldn't be ready to play a game and needs a break when they're in there. So he's de Marco bouncing
Russia tackle and he's running where places DeMarco. Yeah, he's running one ball where it's designed to go to, say outside, and watches that he has those are the playbols. Yeah. Understanding that that the problems go beyond Sam, do you contemplated all the idea of putting in a different quarterback to see how the offense responds given consistent because I think our quarterbacks playing well over the seven games, I think our quarterbacks playing well. Yeah, I've been pleased. Would
say I'm very pleased with Sam. When you evaluate the problems early, the lack of scoring in the first quorder for concentrate on the first quarter, what do you see other than the mistakes because it seems to be consistent early in the game. What have you seen to be in the problem. I think there's a few things, you know, that that expressed themselves in different ways depending on who
we're playing and who the opponent was. You know, we ran forty I think it was forty seven plays in the first half against Carolina, which is totally different than I think we ran like twenty plays in the first half against Dallas. So it's you know, we executed and stayed on the field against UM Carolina. But then there
really the things that stopped to start. A couple of those penalties really that knocked us back and got us out of scoring range were the issues that happened to in the Carolina game as opposed to we didn't block people in the Dallas game. So I think it's a different when you go game to game. So the problems
in the first quarter are different that these games. I mean, that's you know, in Dallas, we didn't block anybody, you know, and in this game, I think we got we were off track, we would move the ball, but then a penalty or you know, we had a Keith first down, UM we threw the ball to arts On on a little spin route. We had a first down goal, but we jumped outside of my tackle, So now we got back. Instead of being third and five where we convert for a first down and we're moving, now we're back in
the third and eleven. Next play we get sacked, so now we're off the field. You know, So I think, uh, in that game that that was an example in that game. In other games Dallas specifically, we didn't block it very well, so allowed yard of our Yeah, what were some of the issues. Two of them, I think, you know, eighty yards came on two plays. You know, the counter played to Stuart. You know that they bounced, Um, we didn't fit it well. Um, and the backer didn't get over
the top. We didn't post it the way we're supposed to post it. And then the reverse. You know, those two plays, right, there were two kind of backbreakers for us, and um, kind of uncharacteristic for what we we've been like defensively and stopping the run. You know, we we haven't given up a lot of X runs just because of how we play and everybody swarms the ball and
our guys ever pretty good understanding we're doing. But those are two runs, those specific two runs I think really kind of tilted things in terms of Yeah, I think if you take those two runs out, what is that what they run for? Yeah, you know, but I think but you can't you unfortunately, you can't take those two runs out then. I mean, those are mistakes that that
we made. We didn't containu it that we were supposed to on on the reverse, and we didn't split it the way and how the backers come over the top of the way we're supposed to on the on the counter that went for forty something so and and we knew going in. I mean, I know Jonathan really well, you know, right, I coached them in college, YOURNT for seventeen hundred and I said it before we knew. Number one, he's tough to bring down. And two he's a lot
faster than I think people get credit for. Is a two hundred and fifty pound back, but he can pick him up and put them down. And you looked on that counter run where he took off, and I've I've seen that in person many a time. But you know, that's the type of player he is. But you can't miss you can't misfit it that way where um against a really good back like that or is gonna make you pay. Um, you know they'll see him when monitor
them this week. I think some of those guys, uh, we'll all stay here, the guys that need to get treatment, and I'll stay here with uh where Chris and get treatment. But they said that, Um, from what I understand, he should be good, good to go for next Tuesday. Saw in a way, did that show the importance of the Miko ryans, him not being the narrating offensive being able to you know, hit some big runs guys out of it. Yeah, but it wasn't. I mean, it wasn't that we were
in the run call. You know. I think Jordan did a really nice chap at getting us lined up all night long, you know, in terms of where we were supposed to be. Um, you know, it was an outside linebacker situation on the on the reverse, it wasn't an inside linebacker situation. So, um, you know, we need Tom go back. He's a very pivotable guy in terms of everything that we do here. But I don't look at those two specific runs and say, if Demiko was here, they would they wouldn't happen. So yeah, yeah,
